Experienced feedback on safes
monkeylizard replied to E4 No More's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I'd ask questions like what ga. steel is the body made of? What's the fire rating temp and duration? Does the safe have a good organizer system built-in, or available as an option? Do that and you'll start seeing differences between the Stack-On on sale at Academy and the Browning ProSteel Super Deluxe With A Fringe On Top(TM) at a safe shop. "Worth the money" is relative to what you're protecting and what other layers of security you have. Don't put a $1,000 gun collection in a $3,000 safe. Do you need to stop a determined and skilled thief for hours? Or do you think it's more likely that you'll need to stop a smash n grab thief for no more than 10 minutes before the police roll up after your monitored alarm went off? Where will the safe be located? A crowbar is much harder to work in the back of a cramped closet than it is along an open wall in the basement. Questions like that will help you decide if the better quality safes are worth it to you. -
That's the logic used by almost everyone who has one of those devil-machines. When you realize that you need to already be in shape to use one, AND have to mow every few days unless you're Mr. Universe, that's when it starts rusting in the corner while you ride a John Deere. The first mow after 8 straight days of rain and you'll cuss more than a sailor's parrot.

I hear there's a guy looking for a reel mower who may want to buy your push mower about 10 minutes into his first reel mow.
-
Unless you're a masochist, or have less than 100 sq. ft of lawn, listen to MacGyver. FYI - the grass type should dictate the blade count on the mower. 5-blade is for finer stand-up grass like fescue and KY blue. 7-blade is for thicker stuff that lays flat like Bermuda. If you commit to a reel mower, then really commit to it. You need to mow it often or you'll struggle more.

Going rate for 7.62 x 39?

The 1,000 box is back in stock. The only coupon code I could find was for $10 off. Couldn't find a free shipping one. -

I got some a week or so ago from SGAmmo (that Wolf/Tula white box) for $234 delivered. That seems to be about as good as it gets. -
I'm pretty sure no Logan's is posted. Some may still have the old ABC signs up about it being illegal to carry where alcohol is served, but most of those are down by now and no longer apply even if they're still up.

A great goal. Unfortunately they can't seem to keep their business away from their politics. http://shopyourpolitics.com/aveda-corp.html

He did know it was an "Earth Day" event, right? :)
-
To daddyo's point, Earth Day has become a bit of a euphemism for "liberal political views of all types are expressed here" which don't always jive with more conservative leaning forums like this one, though not everyone here is on the right. It's disingenuous to think that "Earth Day" doesn't come with lots of baggage and is simply a day to promote conservation and reclamation. Its early connections with the anti-war movement and subsequent association with militant environmentalists/eco-terrorists pretty much sealed that fate. To mark42202's point, one might be surprised at the creative handcrafted stuff you can find at pretty much any local festival. Some of the people who make that stuff are as talented as they come. I doubt a local Earth Day fest in Sparta is going to be a hotbed of liberalism. Me, I like clean rivers and lakes, clean air, and rain that doesn't eat the paint off my car. I just don't feel the need to swear off bathing and to smell of weed and patchouli to help make that happen. ;) I appreciate local groups trying to take this back to what it's supposed to be about, raising awareness of environmental issues that concern us all, promoting peaceful dialog, providing opportunities for community service, and making us all stop and think a little more about how our purchasing decisions and daily behaviors affect the planet we all rely on for survival.

Anyone catch the strange Galifianakis-Obama interview?

The dig at Hangover 3 was stellar, even if it was scripted. -
For anyone interested, it's the June 14th IDPA match at Gallatin Gun Club. Here's a URL with an entry form link. http://www.gallatingun.com/matches.asp

Me too :(

Yep. Wal-Mart didn't become China-R-Us overnight and it would take a significant amount of time to bring that production back on shore. Some things we really don't want brought on-shore. Some things are really dirty to manufacture and there's no good way to avoid that in some cases. Ideally, we could choose not to consume those products, but that's not happening so I'd rather a river in China get polluted than a river in the U.S.

Sort of. In old (French or Spanish, I can't recall) decks, they commonly added names to the 4 kings. Those listed above were the most commonly used, but not the only ones. IIRC, it varied by deck manufacturer and they stopped doing it a few hundred years ago. There are also other names and symbols for the 4 suits that have fallen out of use for the ones we use today. Batons = Clubs, Swords = Spades, Coins = Diamonds, Cups = Hearts. ETA: Holy crap, I have some useless knowledge.

That column on the left looks lonely. It only has 4 and the rest have 5. You need to go buy another one ASAP.

Notice the big pool of oil under that blue '09 when they drive it off. It may have started, but it's still messed up. -
I used that once in college, but I was drunk and she was cute.

One was all over my TV last week, but they stole him from Korea.

You must know some cows who like to party. Most of the ones I know start out in a moo moo. -

I never tip nude cows. I always put 'em in some nice lingerie before I tip 'em.
