  1.   As was said above, "fairly priced" and "Franklin Gun Shop" don't belong in the same sentence.   Mosins are fun, but would not make a good HD choice, IMO. Anything where I have to work a bolt is not going to be an HD choice for me. Plus they're freaking huge! It's hard to move through an interior with that. Not to mention that a Mosin will send that round through three intruders, 4 interior walls, the exterior wall, 2 neighbors' homes, and land somewhere 3 counties away. The M44 takes away the hugeness, but still has all of the other drawbacks of a regular Mosin. An SKS these days seems to be only a hair cheaper than an AK47 and cost the same to shoot so take that into consideration. Everyone's HD situation is different, so YMMV.       Yeah, and you will be too. :) I'm picturing some guy in tighty whiteys with headphones and sunglasses clearing his house with an M44. It's disturbing.
  2. I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but in case someone searches TGO for the Ryman looking for this: Was there tonight. Gunbuster on the glass panel to the right of the doors. About 4"-5" diameter but on a clear background, not white. Large enough to see if you're looking, but clear enough to miss if you're fumbling for your tickets.   BTW, the info above in this thread is out of date regarding carry where alcohol is served. This is a really old thread that I'm dredging up.

  5. If he's sending her off to prom and doesn't know about "alone-time", he's a moron.
  6. Check TCA 39-17-1359. It has the rules about posting. A written sign has to have specific language that the statute provides. The circle/slash (aka "gunbuster") logo is sufficient so if it's there regardless of a written sign, it's a proper posting. http://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/   Basically, the property or portion of a property beyond a proper posting is off limits. Carrying past it is a Class B misdememanor with a fine of $500. A conviction is supposed to result in TDOS suspending the HCP for 12 months, but they may do it just from a charge even without a conviction. I don't know for sure.   The TN AG issued an opinion about "properly posted" and my reading of that is that he thinks a cardboard sign written in crayon saying "no guns" is good enough. IIRC, that opinion was issued prior to the latest revision of the law to clarify the language requirements, but I can't say for sure and don't have time right now to go check the dates.   Anecdotaly, it seems that the most likely scenario is that if you're made in a posted no-guns zone, you'd be asked to leave and nothing more unless you make a stink about it. Schools being an obvious exception to that, but they're not goverened by 39-17-1359. They get their own special exclusions. AFAIK, there has only been one case with 39-17-1359 and that was the motorcycle dealership in the Memphis area where a guy carried in right past a sign and a security guard in a place that had experienced a shooting in its past. I don't know the sepcifics or the final outcome of that case.
  7. What does that have to do with anything? dcloudy777 was responding to your assertion that:     That's a complete failure of logic. Either the right shouldn't be limited (your 1st clause), or it should be limited to people who can prove they have adequate knowledge to USE a gun (2nd clause). It's not logical to say that the right protected by the 2nd A shouldn't be limited, then say exactly how you think it should be limited.   You seem to not understand what a right is. It's not something you have to prove yourself worthy to have. You simply have it. Our society has determined that certain people do not yet have certain rights (children) and that we can prove ourselves unworthy of a right and have it taken from us (felons), but it starts with an "all doors open" approach. If you have to prove worthiness for something, then it's a privilege not a right.   We have a right to vote. We can lose that right by proving ourselves unworthy of it (felons) or we can be too young to properly exercise that right (under 18). Otherwise we don't have to prove to anyone that we have read/heard the candidates' positions, understand the issues of the day, and will vote for a candidate based on a reasoned approach. The right simply exists. Firearms are the same way. You could perhaps argue that you think they should not be, and that you think the Constitution should be ammended, but you can't logically conclude that something shouldn't be limited then say how it should be limited.   Definitions: Privilege - a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. Right - a moral or legal entitlement to have or obtain something or to act in a certain way.
  8. Same for me as maroonandwhite. I get "Sorry, you don't have permission for that." In the TGO Store under Logo Swag, it says "There are no products here yet. check back soon."
  9. OS, if adding the VFG makes it no longer designed for one handed use, does that have any impact on the Sig Brace? I though the ruling allowing the brace was at least in part because an AR pistol is designed to be fired one handed. Once the OAL exceeds 26" and a VFG is added, is the justification for the Sig Brace still effective?   I mean, I see that a VFG after exceeding 26" is OK and that a Sig Brace on a pistol of any length is OK, but can they both be on at the same time as in your photos? I didn't see an ATF ruling one way or the other, so is it allowed by default until there's a ruling?
  10. I'm wanting to build with a pistol buffer tube. Deciding between a 7.5" and 10.5" upper. The 10.5" puts the OAL around 26" by my estimates based on one of the pistol buffer tubes I'm considering, so I'm wondering what that means if I cross that length. I wasn't necessarily planning on adding a VFG, but I'd like to know if I can or not if I cross 26". I want to avoid any tax stamps and forms and remain legal.
  11. Thanks. I'm specifically looking at a pistol buffer, so no stock involved.   Under 26" and it's a pistol. AFG = OK. VFG = not OK, right? At over 26", does it become an AOW and need a stamp, or is it just called a "firearm" and no stamp is needed and it can have a VFG?
  12. I'm trying to plan out my first AR-15 pistol build and have some questions.   Can someone summarize the "rules" around any length restrictions and what canges a pistol to an AOW? Once you cross to an AOW, does that require a tax stamp like a Class 3 item and can it then swap back and forth between pistol and AOW?
  13.   Isn't there a time limit after being passed in the house and senate where it becomes law even without his signature?
  14.   Yeah, I did some reading late last night to be sure of that, and it sure seems to be the case.   While I was at it, I re-read the Colorado decision (Bonidy v. U.S.). AIUI, and again, IANAL, the Bonidy case was brought against one particular post office (Avon, CO). The judge ruled on this case for that particular post office due to its services and parking lot configuration. That P.O. had a fenced in parking lot for the P.O.s mail handling. The judge decided that the public portion of that particular P.O.'s parking lot was not allowed to be off-limits because that area had nothing to do with the processing of the mail.   The judge specifically cited 3 other aspects of the Avon, CO post office in his decision: The post office does not provide delivery to the public They provide free post office boxes to Avon residents These post office boxes are the only method of retrieving mail Even in Colorado, if your local P.O. has a combined parking lot or doesn't meet any (or all?) of the other criteria, it may very well still be off-limits.
  15.   Yeah...I do.   Most of my last post was rhetorical. I don't have kids and I'm not a big fan of the beach, but I'm not so self-centered that I can't see that the law impacts other people besides me. Apparently you don't suffer from my affliction. Thanks for proving my point.   The USPS parking lot allowance was made by a federal judge in Colorado last summer. It applies only to Colorado for now. If it gets appealed to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, and if they uphold it, then it would apply to the region governed by the 10 circuit: Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Oklahoma. It's now case law that a judge in another state will consider, but it's far from a settled issue. IANAL, but that's how I understand the federal court system to work. The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs passed a measure this February to change the statute to exclude parking lots, but AFAIK, it hasn't gone beyond that yet. Maybe Congress will resolve it before we get case law from the TN District Court or the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals..
  16.   1) You must not be married. I go in all sorts of posted places because a happy wife is a happy life. You must also never travel by airplane. You must never attend concerts, conventions, or sporting events in several of Tennessee's most popular arenas (U.T., Vanderbilt, Bridgestone Arena, LP Field, etc.) You also must live in a place with sensible guns-in-parks laws unlike some of us. I suppose that when you visit any of our wonderful National Parks that you never enter any of the Visitors' Centers. I also suppose you don't have young kids or grandkids so you never have to go see a school play or meet with a teacher. Another sign that you don't have kids is that you must never visit theme parks like Disney World or Sea World. You never take your kids to the beach or if you do, you never get in the water with them.   2) If you have it in your car in the Post Office parking lot, you're already breaking the federal law, just as if you carried it in with you, so you might as well keep it on you. The entire P.O. property is off limits.
  17.   This x a bazillion.
  18.   My argument is that rewritten this way it's ridiculous....   Why is the 2nd any different than the 1st?       Note: The quoted text has been altered.
  19. When you're accused of playing dirtier pool than Jimmy Naifeh, you have some serious stink on you.
  20. Don't stop there. Any store that sells guns is stupid. They could get burglarized or robbed and those guns could be used in a crime.
  21. Yeah....don't remind me.....   Still, we did get some good victories this year and none as horribly worded as 39-17-1313 from last year.
  22. Next we need to get rid of 39-17-1311 (d ) and stop this stupid "Park A is off limits but Park B is OK" garbage.
  23.   FIFY!   As opposed to that giant turd of a bill that passed last year. (39-17-1313).
  24. Just passing this along. Don't know if these are good or not or a good price or not. http://sport.woot.com/plus/cleaners-and-cases-1
