  1.   They didn't. Someone else said it and they just printed it.   What they fail to realize is that the single-action is the one you have to worrry about. That's the one for going all Clint Eastwood and just slapping the hammer for rapid fire shots, you know, as gang-bangers are known to do.
  2. Wow. I had no idea that pistols and revolvers were the 2 most dangerous kinds of handguns and that rifles and shotguns were the most dangerous long guns.   I thought most crimes were commited with muskets and blunderbusses. I'm glad I checked out that informative article.           In other news, the 2 most dangerous knives are 1) those with blades under 4" and 2) those with blades at or beyond 4". It's astonishing stuff!
  3. Handguns can't be mailed through the USPS.   You can use UPS or FedEx, but both have their own quirky rules about firearms which I don't remember.   If you're willing to drive from Rogersville to Sevierville to make this sale happen, you may as well just go to Marshall, NC instead. It's about the same distance. There's an FFL there called Randy's Guns ((855) 466-7199) and one called Sweetwater Guns & Ammo ((828) 649-0155). I think those are closest NC FFL to you. If you just meet up at one of those and they can do the transfer and be done with it. Seems like it would save a whole lot of hassle. Just call them to see what their hours and transfer fees are and if they'll accept an in-person trade like that. Some will, some won't.   [shameless TGO plug] Or you could become a benefactor here on TGO, post for sale items in the trading post, and deal with in-state residents of the highest caliber. :D [/shameless TGO plug]
  4. No. It's not OK. You have to have the transfer of a handgun done in the buyer's state of residency. You would have to travel to NC and meet him at an FFL there or ship it to an FFL there. You can not legally do the transfer in Tennessee.     You could transfer a long gun at a TN FFL to a non-TN resident, but not a handgun.

  6. Nashville is the home of hot chicken. Prince's is the gold standard, but it's a dump in a crappy part of town. Hattie B's and 400 degrees are where you go if you're willing to give up a little dive authenticity for a better health score.
  7. Prince's "regular" is about all I can comfortably handle. After that, it's just saw dust.
  8.   I felt my arteries harden a little when I read that.
  9.   That's incorrect. There's no duty to retreat in TN as long as you have a legal right to be wherever you are. The smart person will retreat if it's reasonable to do so. Not because they have to, but because avoiding an SD shooting is a whole lot cheaper and less life altering than engaging in one.   In this case, I agree with the others that the threat wasn't imminent.
  10. Plus, at our FF's time, juries were made of white male landowners. Good luck with a fair trial if you're being accused by a white landowning male if you are not all, or any, of those three things.
  11.   You have to read the fine print. Some exclude "intentional acts" and other stuff. If you're relying on that to come to your aid in an SD event, know the fine print.
  12.   No, we don't. We have the longest standing federal constitutional government.* In other words, no other government that's structured like ours is older. The current UK parliamentary monarchy dates to either 1066 or 1660/1689, depending on one's perspective. Either way it's older than us. Then there's San Marino which goes back to somewhere around 300 A.D. and the Vatican** which dates back to 33 AD. It has controlled what is now Vatican City (and sometimes a whole lot more) since the 300's. Iceland has the longest standing legislative body dating back to 930, but they've not been independent the entire time (and Denmark suspended the legislature from 1799-1844) and only became the nation we know today in 1944.   *Sweden's constitution pre-dates us by a few years but they've had substantial changes to theirs, so it's debatable if they've been under the same form of government the entire time. They're also not a federal consitutional government.   **I suppose some times with the anti-popes, competing claims to the papal seat, and imprisonment by the French would mean you could argue it's younger than that, but it's still older than us no matter how you slice it.
  13. Yeah. I started with a 26, then added a 19. Now I want a 29, 30 and/or a 36.
  14. It's not a super deal, but it's a fair price. I've seen them as low as $465 online, incl. S&H. Add on TICS and transfer and you're looking at $485-$500 depending on your FFL's transfer fees.
  15. Neither am, I as long as I can be safe with them. What happens when I don't recognize my own spouse (brother, sister, child, nurse, etc.) and think she's an intruder? Dementia and Alzheimers take a terrible toll on a person. I like to think that I'll make the right choice in the early stages of those terrible diseases if I ever get them. I want someone (close friend or relative) still in their right mind to do what is necessary to protect my family from me if I'm no longer capable of doing that.
  16.   That's all fine and well as long as grampa's mind is solid. What happens when he gets confused a lot? Doesn't recognize close family members? Thinks walking 2 miles in January in his underwear to the corner store that burned down in 1971 is a good idea?   I agree with DaveTN on this one (did I just say that?).   I think it's a family issue, not one for doctors to decide. I think doctors should have the conversation with the family and advise them, but ultimately it's not their call. Of course my logic falls apart when there isn't any family. I'm not sure what I think the best course of action is then.
  17. I'm sure they'll sell you a case of Hillary's book.  :)
  18. Hard Choices was stacked deep at West Nashville Costco last week. It spent 2 weeks at #1 and last week fell to #2 on the NYT best sellers list of combined print and e-media for non fiction. Besides their politics wanting  it to do well, it would make no sense to pull that book if Costco really does use lists like the NYT BSL to decide what to carry.   America is a top seller on Amazon, but the NYT's liberal politics have kept it off their BSL so far. The NYT says it will be on the list next week.   It makes sense for Costco to only keep top selling books in stock. It's a huge store, but they only allocate so much space for books. That said, their own internal sales numbers should have been showing them that the book was selling well even w/o an NYT listing. We'll never know, but I'd love to see what their internal sales figures were showing prior to it being pulled. It's possible that it wasn't doing very well in Costco.
  19. I don't know what middle class is, but "rich" is anyone making more than me. :D
  20. Metro Nashville's ordinance (11.12.080) on this is two-fold, if anyone cares. Inside the urban services district it's like others have mentioned. No firing of pretty much anything, including BB, airsoft, paintball, etc.). In the general services district, it's anything goes, as far as the city is concerned, during the day, and a no-no at night.   I don't know of any ordinance regarding archery for either district.   As a general rule (but not always) if the city picks up your trash you're in urban services. If you pay for someone else or have to haul it off yourself, you're in general services. http://maps.nashville.gov/webimages/MapGallery/PDFMaps/Urban%20Services%20District.pdf
  21. What no_one said. If you lived in Knoxville, would you buy a house in Orlando to generate rental income to pay for your Knoxville mortgage? Although the steps are in the reverse order of what you're considering, the end result is the same.
  22. It's a holiday weekend, and FCC regulations say that every B-list cable channel has to do a marathon of some show every holiday weekend. It further states the marathon must be related to the holiday, or that a catchy holiday-related re-titling be done for the marathon, thus the "Dead, White, and Blue Marathon" was born...er...um....raised. It's the same reason TNT has to show "Independence Day" at least 4 times over the weekend.
