I hear that the Spy Museum is awesome, but I haven't been yet. The same goes for the bureau of engraving and printing.   Check out the Library of Congress located behind the Capitol. They have a nice exhibit of artifacts, including Lincoln's personal effects from the night he was assasinated. They also have some of George Washington's school textbooks.   Contact your Congressman's or either Senator's office and find out if they have any Capitol tours while you're there. You'll start at their office in the neighboring office buildings and ride their private subway tram over to the Capitol. You'll be with other Tennesseeans and in a smaller group than the regualr tours, and led by an intern. I lucked out and went when Sen. Frist was the Senate Majority Leader so we also got to see the SML's office which is not part of the regular tour. It has the fireplace where the British troops burned books from the Library of Congress which suubsequently burned down the Capitol during the War of 1812.

Thanks OS. I went to St. Louis and back yesterday for a Cardinals game (5-4 win over the Pirates. Go Cards!) and left my heater at home because I didn't want to have to deal with IL and its stupid laws. That new change will make the decision to go back for more Cardinals games easier.         Yeah, I know about the left turn at Paducah that only puts me in IL for about a mile at Fort Defiance, but that adds an hour round-trip to an already long day.

Field strip the handgun and place the parts in a locked container inaccessible to the driver, preferably in the trunk if you have one.   Though this IL pamphlet doesn't say so, a similar one from NJ says don't make any stops that aren't necessary. Get gas, and keep moving.

Same here. It's a range gun. Much too large and heavy for me to carry daily, although I know some find that it works for them just fine.

I have a Beretta and have owned a Taurus 92 and shot a couple of other Taurus 92s. The decocker/safety on the Taurus can be cocked and locked. On the Beretta, moving from fire to safe passes through the decocker step and lowers the hammer. It's on the frame on the Taurus, making it a little easier to reach, esp for someone with small hands. Not only are the mags not interchangeable, but because of the relocated safety, neither are the grips. The fit/finish on the Beretta is a little better. The gaps are tighter. The biggest difference to me is the trigger pull. It's noticeably smoother on the Beretta. Personally, I don't like the gigantic lettering that Taurus feels the need to emblazon on every slide they produce, so there's that too. I do like the look of the polished stainless Taurus more than the Inox Beretta. Heresy, I know.

I just sent Ron Jackson and e-mail. I'll let you all know what he thinks.   We should be OK on the member-to-guest ratio, assuming Ron and the board think this is OK to do at GGC. Counting Hershmeister, I can just about guarantee that we'll have at least 4 members (Hershmeister, D3VO, myself, and a non-TGO buddy).

When it's not hotter than Satan's balls outside.       Seriously though, Saturdays are usually blocked out with rifle or IDPA matches, but some of those will stop when the weather turns a bit colder. Right now, the November calendar shows Saturdays as all available, but that could just mean that the calendar hasn't been updated. Sundays are good as the only scheduled events are up on the trap stands. Weekdays are of course much quieter. Having the place to ourselves is a crap shoot. Sometimes I go and it's empty. Other times I go and there are a few other shooters. Outside of matches and the annual picnic, I've never seen more than 6 other people there.

I'm torn as well. I agree with the others here who think the cops acted in a reasonable manner and the the real failure is on the DA and the first judge. That makes it a wrongful arrest, but one that could have been quickly rectified at that first stop along the way to where we are now.   I also agree that he was straight up looking for this kind of confrontation.   If I controlled the civil trial jury, I'd probably find in his favor and award him $1.

I'm very interested in hearing various supressors. I'm a member at the Gallatin Gun Club up at the TVA steam plant. There's no particlular limit to the # of guests I can have, but if it's more than say 3 or 4 I'd want to run it past Ron Jackson first. It's plenty big enough to handle this and goes to 300 yards. As long as everyone agrees to abide by the range rules, I'd be willing to participate.

I learn something new each day. I always thought the lower was once-an-NFA-always-an-NFA. I knew it could have a rifle upper installed and it wouldn't be considered an SBR in that config, but I assumed all other NFA regulations followed it, including sale and interstate transport.

Yep, the mountains of surplus have just about gone away, I did manage to pick up a pair of Mosin carbines from J&G last winter for a pretty good price and they were in pretty good shape. No museum pieces, but not run over by a T-34 either. Aim Surplus usually has some OK prices on various C&R items. It seems like they usually have various Mosins around including the revolvers, plus Tokarev pistols. They had a bunch of Swiss rifles too, but I haven't seen them up there for a while.

No. The lower is the regulated part. If it's NFA, it's no bueno to cross state lines without filing the paperwork.

What DaveTN said. Still, it's pretty awesome to meet the UPS man and have him hand you a box if firearms.  :up:   Plus you get dealer pricing at some websites. Brownell's does that for us. I know there are others, but that's the only one I've used.
