But they have to pay the maintenance guy with the wrench to take it down, so it stays until it becomes necessary to remove it for some other reason.
-
Yep. It's the same as when the State Parks became good to go. Requiring the signs to come down or be changed would add a fiscal note and that's going to kill pretty much any gun bill. Many signs are multi-purpose with more than just the "no guns" part so it's not as simple as just taking them down. I expect that we'll see the signs up at local parks for many years to come, just as we still do at state parks.

my 5 yr old found this in my yard, snake fang?
monkeylizard replied to patrick28's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I'm going with tooth. Probably from a possum or maybe a coyote. -
They're not so little up there. I'm pretty sure I saw one with a leather jacket and his wallet on a chain the last time I was there.
-
The rats will keep them in check.

Pedantic note: Those fluffy cowboy chaps are made from gay sheep or trans-gendered bison, not fluffy cow. Better?

Well I'll be a fluffy cow. I go on vacation and you guys deliver up a thread like this? Perfect timing..... :( Pedantic note: Those fluffy cowboy chaps are made from sheep or bison, not fluffy cow.

You can drop mine off when you're done with it.

You need to weld a bottle opener on there somewhere.

Pics when you're done, or it didn't happen. :D

Seriously though, what MacGyver said. West System 105 resin with their 206 slow hardener. It's made for boats so it will withstand some crazy weather. Roll it on, then clamp it all together and put something heavy on top of the aluminum. Let it sit for a day and *poof*. All done.

Uber says if you ride or drive... no guns
monkeylizard replied to Dustbuster's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wonder if this won't come back around to bite them. They're claiming up and down that they're just the middle man matching riders with independent contractors. That way they don't have to pay for health insurance. I know this gun rule alone isn't enough to qualify them as employers, but is it just one more piece of straw adding to the weight? The more they control how their "independent contractors" operate, the more they look like an employer. It's not much, but it's a little something for a lawyer who's looking for any little something to jump on. -
I agree on an individual level. If I know that member X has a bazillion acres of land, I'd never ask him to let me shoot on it, even if we're neighbors and get coffee twice a week. But to me that personal one-on-one appeal is different than throwing something out to the masses and saying "Wanted: place to shoot near X. Willing to apply sweat equity as needed." The first is directly imposing on a specific person. The second is like putting something on a bulletin board. Maybe you get a call, maybe you don't, but you didn't put anyone in a bad position of having to say "no." I think it's good that you let people know you're without a place to shoot. You won't get an invite if nobody knows you're looking for one. You never know if there's someone on here who needs some help mending a fence and would offer you the chance to shoot in exchange for some free labor. Erik88's right though. I wouldn't expect much of a response due to liability issues these days. But you never know unless you ask.

I couldn't watch Forever. I made it through about 5 episodes and realized they were pretty much all exactly the same. I gave up on it and wasn't surprised it got the axe.

Do I recall correctly that they have a proper toilet in them? I haven't been in one for almost 20 years now. IIRC it was a big improvement for the crew over the B-52 which pretty much just has a funnel and hose going to a coffee can. The first person to use it had to clean it out upon mission end. Gotta go #2 in a B-52? Open the bomb bay doors, Hal.

Last Resort needed to be cancelled. It was interesting for maybe 3 episodes, then just got stupid. +1 to The Last Ship. good summer show. Also glad to see Falling Skies is wrapping up. I've enjoyed the show, but I'm ready for it to conclude. I'll let both queue up in the DVR then binge watch them.

See this thread on tannerite http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85742-got-tannerite-dont-mix-it/ +1 to robtattoo's post. Other options around Nashville are: CHMR ( http://www.chmr.us/ ) for $90/year. It only goes to 100 yards though and I doubt he'd allow tannerite but I don't know for sure. Gallatin Gun Club ( http://www.gallatingun.com/ ) for $50 year. It goes to 300 yards. No tannerite and a waiting list, plus Saturdays in warm months are usually blacked out for competitions.

Memphis Park Called A "Public Recreation Area"
monkeylizard replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
What OS said. A public recreation area is under the same law as parks and playgrounds. It's probably just an old sign that no longer applies. However, knowing the stances exclaimed by certain city leaders in both Memphis and Nashville following the recent legislation, it wouldn't surprise me if someoned decides put up new signs like that to intentionally obfuscate what is and isn't an allowed area now as most citizens don't have 39-17-1311 memorized. -
Or you could use the poor man's scanner. Take a picture of the picture with your phone.

I'm guessing the compass was set to due North on more than one occasion. :)

Nope. Too expensive and the gear needed to maintain them is probably all gone too, along with much of the knowledge, I'm sure.

TN Anti-Gun State Rep Indicted On Federal Charges
monkeylizard replied to Oh Shoot's topic in General Chat
Probably just typical sloppy WSMV reporting. -
My dad is a retired chaplain. When we were at Kadena he was assigned to a refueling squadron so he got to go up with them on lots of missions, including refueling the Habu. He said they'd go up a few hours before the SR-71 would launch and go into a circling pattern. After it got up, it would be on their position in a few minutes. They'd go as fast as they could go and the SR would go about as slow as it could go. After gassing up, it would throttle up and be gone in a flash. He said watching it in flight out those back windows was incredible.

Here's one of my favorite SR-71 stories from Brian Shul: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/favorite-sr-71-story-1079127041

I was there from 1st through 3rd grade and I can still remember that roar. Night flights were especially cool watching those afterburners go from two bright flames to one, to none, but you could still hear it. It was a semi-regular occurrence to see one launch, but it still had people standing in their front yards watching it. We had an F-15 pilot next door and even he would stand out and watch it. One of the most unique school field trips was a visit in 3rd grade to the hangar and operations center. We got to try on the space helmets and eat peaches from a tube, then we got to go out to the hangar and see the Habu up close. Amazing.
