  1. By comparison, 1st degree burns in human skin begin at 118F, 2nd degree at 131F. Pain receptors overload and become numb at a temperature of 140F. Human tissue is destroyed more or less immediately at 162F.
  2. And so it begins:   http://www.stripes.com/news/us/army-to-recruiters-treat-armed-citizens-as-security-threat-1.359134
  3. My leafy greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, chard, etc.) and herbs all did well but nothing else has done well yet. I've collected a few small tomoatoes out of 4 plants*, 6 peppers out of 17 plants, and a few cucumbers before the stupid cucumber beetles and stink bugs killed them off. I've harvested 3 kohlrabi. they're doing OK. Gotta keep  'em sprayed with BT or the cutworms will eat them up.  2 small yellow squash and 0 zucchini yet out of 3 plants. 1 eggplant is about 3-4" long. That's it out of 2 plants. I planted okra later and it is coming on strong. I should get a good harvest of that in the next week.   *I tried 3 new things with tomatoes this year. 1 - They're all planted in 3.5 gal buckets to keep them from taking over whole areas of the garden and 2 - I started them from seeds collected from store-bought Campari tomatoes as those are a patented variety and the seeds aren't sold, and 3 - the soil mix is different than what's in my raised beds. It's 1/3 each of worm castings, mushroom compost, and lobster compost. Next year I'll go back to putting them in the ground and starting with solid stock from my local nursery. The stuff I get from there always grows bigger, faster, and better than the plants I get from Home Depot. More expensive, but better. For anyone in the Bellevue area, I've had excellent results with plants from Moore & Moore nursery on Hwy 100.
  4.   Sometimes others have to point them out. :hiding:
  5. He had an open slot on his rail, so something had to go there. Two VFGs just looked silly.
  6.   "Incident to" is the more important part, IMO. Carrying a loaded firearm is not "incident to" the lawful activity of standing outside a recruiting station.   Then again, I don't see how it's "incident to" fishing or camping either.
  7. I wonder if that's maybe a temporary move. He ordered Adjutant General Max Haston to look into all possibilities for securing the personnel and property of the Guard, including streamlining the process for arming them. I could see relocating the recruiters to the armories for a little while as a precaution. That would secure the people until they can all be properly trained and armed, and give time to harden any other non-armory locations like store fronts.
  8. That's what I thought too. I expect that within a few days, the local police will have a to have "the talk". Something along the lines of "Hey, guys. We appreciate what you're doing, but come tomorrow, we really need you to leave the rifles and shotguns at home. Handguns are good to go."

What's the name, and where is it?
  11. It'll bring back memories of the old neighborhood BB gun wars. Back before everything had warning labels.
  12. I don't disagree. I'm glad they're there. I'm not trying to diminish what they're doing. I think it's the right thing to do.   I'm just wondering about the legal aspect of their long guns.
  13.   I don't think that's correct. 39-17-1308 allows for carrying at a person's place of business, but that doesn't extend to anyone else who may have property owner's permission. These strip malls are not the places of business of these citizens standing guard. Even with permission, I don't think this is legal with long guns. Right, maybe, but not legal.
  14.   You can shoot at your buddy's place because 39-17-1308 says it's OK to have loaded firearms "incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity".
  15.   I don't see how that's relevant. 39-17-1308 provides defenses to being armed. Being on private property isn't one of them unless it's your private property.

    Donuts

There's a Shipley Do-Nuts in Donelson on Lebanon Rd. close to Briley Pky. They make theirs fresh. I'm not a big fan of them myself, but I know people who love them. Fox's Donut Den in Green Hills makes all of theirs fresh too. They're good and they have a nice variety. It's a Nashville institution. For my money, it's hard to beat Krispy Kreme when that sign is lit up.
  17. http://www.scrippsmedia.com/newschannel5/news/Armed-Volunteers-Guard-Army-Recruitment-Centers-In-Clarksville-318036681.html   Blake Farmer on WPLN (Nashville's NPR) had this to say. http://nashvillepublicradio.org/post/self-appointed-guardians-military-recruiting-centers-plan-stay-long-it-takes. I know his liberal head wants to explode, but he did a decent job of telling the side of the men standing guard. His choices of quotes does leave me with a bit of a mall-ninja feeling about the whole thing though.   I'm specifically wondering about them being armed with long guns. I'm pretty sure that's not legal here in TN. Am I correct on that?   Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating the local DA or LEO fine or arrest anyone over it, just curious.
  18.   Did you just declare war on East Nashville hipsters? If so, I'm in!
  19. http://www.wsmv.com/story/29593646/pastor-injured-in-north-nashville-shooting         He's seriously wounded, but not life-threatening. He was able to defend himself and his wife. I'd bet a nickle that this would have ended differently if he wasn't armed. I'm sorry he got hit, but I still chalk this one up as a win.
  20. Because that would make Joe Biden into Mr. President. I don't think a VP has ever served so well as impeachment insurance in the history of this country.
  21. Tell them you use an IBM Selectric. Does that run Windows?
