Sig Brace ILLEGAL to shoulder
Dolomite_supafly replied to mcordell's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Now that has to be the biggest post, with explanation, I have ever seen based on a typo. I can understand forgetting the "er" at the end of "should" but to post the definition of "should" when it should have been "shoulder" is something I have never seen. -
We will look into it and if they do not have proof, as in a receipt, they will get booted.

On new ARs it is very important to lube them up until they break in. Anodizing is very rough and when dry anything riding on it is like riding on sandpaper. And once you get 3-4 magazines through it the gun should run just fine unless there is another problem. I normally lube it to excess then shoot a few magazines through it followed by a good cleaning. Then after that you need a minimal amount of lube. One more thing, while shooting if it starts to have problems I would give it a squirt or two of oil or even WD40. It tends to loosen the crud that can cause malfunctions.

What size you need and are you going to be at the show today?

Personally I wish they would make those that get caught parking without a permit stand at the space for a day to ensure anyone who parks there has a permit. I bet it would be a perpetual thing as the person watching it will likely catch enough people to last a week or two. I was looking for a picture I took of our local cops who park in the handicap spot. I can see how they think it is their spot though because it is marked by a man in blue.

A word of caution though. Just because someone doesn't look like they are not handicapped does not mean they are not. There are people who have breathing disorders who appear as normal as anyone until they have an attack. And honestly if I am having a good day I might walk in the gas station without my crutches because I hate them. Without my crutches I look just fine, other than I walk like a pimp, but what they do not see is on my bad days I spend 22+ hours curled up in bed. And it literally can come on from a bump in the road, stepping wrong or picking up something I didn't think would hurt and then I am absolutely miserable. For me every day, and night, is a struggle and without my wife I am not sure what I would do. She does so much for me on a day to day basis that without her the life I live now would be impossible. Again, I would caution against automatically assuming someone is not disabled.

Sig Brace ILLEGAL to shoulder

Like I said above, most of these letters may have been written early on and they finally ruled. it isn't like all these recent letters were written in the last 3 months. -

Yeah, I NEVER would install any full auto FCG parts. Matter of fact I would never own anything other than a FA bolt carrier. Too much of a chance it might burst fire when the hammer follows, especially if you use soft primers. The stress of having an illegal anything would far outweigh the happiness it might bring. Problem is you now cannot shoulder that "pistol" that you could before this opinion letter. As far as timing it takes a while to the ATF to respond to opinion letters. I have been waiting on one for several months now. I will say they have already contradicted itself with USC. USC states a rifle is a "firearm that is designed or intended to be fired from the shoulder" then in this opinion they state a firearm with the Sig brace is not intended or designed to be fired from the shoulder. So if adding a Sig brace to a pistol means it is not "designed or intended to be fired from the shoulder" then it does not meet the USC definition of a "rifle". What I find really, really confusing is the letters that are harmful to shouldering the Sig brace are coming from the Firearms Technology Industry Services Branch and those supporting the shouldering of the Sig brace are coming from the Firearms Technology Branch. The FTB has traditionally been the office to make rulings such as this but as of late it seems like the FTISB has stepped in with conflicting opinions. Before this year I had never heard of the FTISB. -
Let me start by saying I do not believe I am entitled to anything. I also recognize the fact there are some people way worse, as far as disabilities go, than me. So what upsets me is those people who think that space with the blue and white wheelchair sign means it is for THEIR quick trip into the store. Now unless I am having a really bad day I have my wife park in a regular spot so those worse than me can use the handicapped spot. But when I am having a bad day, when every step I can avoid matters, I need to park close or just stay in the truck if can't. And honestly I would gladly walk the extra distance if I could without having issues. At one point I would ask and EVERY time I have asked if they have a placard, as I stand there with my crutches, they act like I am the jerk and even cuss me out. Because of that I have quit even asking because the entitlement crowd apparently thinks they are entitled to the space I need from time to time. I wish there was something I could do to the jerks. I was told if I parked behind them and block them in I could get in trouble. Not to mention the person would probably loose their mind. I just wish people would understand that to some of us that extra 50' makes a difference, especially those with breathing problems. Fortunately I do not have breathing problems but some do and have to stop constantly to catch their breath. Thanks for letting me vent.

Sig Brace ILLEGAL to shoulder

Also, realize you CANNOT carry a SBR or any rifle on your person outside a vehicle. This is a deal breaker for me to SBR my shorty AK "pistol". I will say this will get a huge response from the shooting community. There are 10's of thousands of people who have bought the Sig brave because it can be shouldered. Now their $130 brace cannot be used the way they intended it so there will be a huge response, along with lawsuits, to determine whether use can change the classification. Think about this. If the opinion states use is what determines what something is then you could argue installing machine gun parts are not illegal unless you actually fire it in full auto. Or a rifle with a 10" barrel is not an SBR unless it is shouldered. Personally I hope the courts determine there is ok difference between an SBR and a pistol and do away with the NFA requirement to register what amounts to a "pistol" with a shoulder stock. -
I need to get the buffer out to you. Keep forgetting it.

Also, wonder if shouldering a bare buffer tube will soon be illegal as well. The NFA needs to go away in a major way. Why should it matter whether I shoot from the shoulder or not? The rounds are just as effective regardless whether I shoulder it or not. Bet a lot of people will be returning their Christmas gifted Sig braces now. -

And so it begins. Confusion by the ATF and a previously legal item is now illegal based on how it is used. What sucks for us in Tennessee is it is illegal to have a long gun, loaded or unloaded, ion your person outside of a vehicle unless certain criteria are met. You cannot just carry around a rifle like you do with a pistol, either with or without a HCP. -
Yeah, I had zero problems with what KA was saying, and I even agreed with some of it, but all the BS and personal attacks mixed in kind of muted the good he had to say. Him being removed had nothing to do with him not being a fan of Costa, despite what KA thinks. ETA: This really did not sit well with me when I first read it. He is calling us, the ones who keep food on HIS table, ungrateful. Not a great way to characterize his customers. We are not ungrateful but we do hold manufacturers accountable for the products or promises they make.

Wish they would tell you which one you missed. In all honesty though it is easier to spot a problem than it is to write something without a problem.

She will be spoiled like every princess should be. -
And they are giving it away. If they are going to let it be given away give it to one of our allies or sell it to the highest bidder. It is sickening to know that somewhere, someone is making a lot of money on this.

Now we know how much an American deserter is worth. It also puts ALL Americans at risk because now there are tons of people who believe anyone they take would also be worth $5B.

First off there are going to be some people who will not be on TGO for Christmas, maybe longer. If you think it might be you I suggest you get a hold of me and promise me you are going to knock your antics off. If you are one and you do not reach out you will be gone with a capital G. I am in the holiday spirit and believe in giving people second chances but the present you get tomorrow morning will not be a pleasant one if you don't come to terms with what maintaining a good fellowship with others really means. We are a family of gun owners that should be all on the same team but as usual some of our fellow gun owners have figured out a way to divide a small group into even smaller opposing groups. We are the best at eating our own and this thread is a perfect example. Rather than live with the fact someone has a differing opinion some have chosen to use the left's favorite tactic and use name calling, personal attacks and misinformation as a means to try to convince others their opinions are all that matters. I will clue you in to something, your opinion means exactly squat when it is mixed in with attacks on others. Second, realize the original post was a message to warn fellow gun owners and regardless of who it came from I appreciate anyone looking out for me or the other members of the gun community. If you think the message is BS then say so and move on but do not try to convince everyone else that your opinion is the right opinion, that is for them to decide not you. Regardless if you love, hate or are indifferent to Costa one must realize that he probably sees more firearms in a year than anyone on this board, definitely more than anyone in this thread so far, and in the world of experts, specifically firearms experts, his experience puts him up the food chain higher than anyone here. Costa has been doing this for a very long time and seen a lot of people, with a lot of different guns, come through his classes and despite what anyone thinks about his tactics or training his experience training people makes him an expert on what is normal and what is abnormal. And as far as the 3 gun insult realize that it is civilian competitions that have generated 90% of the military tactics. It is also civilians that come up with 90% of the newest fighting gear. I know of a lot of civilian competitors who regularly teach our military on tactics. And in closing I suggest everyone get a bit of the Christmas spirit and quit arguing. During the holidays we should be coming together as a family of gun owners rather than create animosity between us. The world we live in today is an awful place and the country we live in is falling apart around us yet we are going to fight amongst ourselves about a straightened elbow. Think about how silly that is. Some of you really do need to get a life or at least some perspective because things can be a lot worse than someone having a different opinion than you. Merry Christmas

Those triggers should be a bit lighter. Most that were done ended up with a trigger under 4.5 pound and the majority are under 4 pounds. If the stars align correctly a 3-3.5 trigger is a possibility and if you gave your first born to the AR gods that simple trigger job results in a trigger that has zero take up, nearly zero over travel and with a pull weight under 3 pounds. I had one that was a reliable sub 2 pound trigger. I will say I bumped it up to 3 pounds because 2 pounds was just too light for a range toy that a lot of people shoot. I try to have ~3 pound trigger in all my personal ARs and as you know I ONLY use milspec triggers. There are a few other tricks to eleminate the amount of pretravel and over travel but you are getting into the territory where hammer follow is a possibility. But even adding the setscrew, tuning the hammer spring and a very slight polish on the nose of the trigger will give you an immense improvement. I will caution anyone considering doing a trigger yourself to leave the hammer alone. There is no need to mess with the engagement on the hammer and doing so often results in an unsafe gun. I HAVE been there and done that. I bet I have ruined 25 sets of FCGs over the years figuring out what works and what doesn't.

In Nashville Man pulls gun after his order was messed up
Dolomite_supafly replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
I do not condone anyone using violence to get an order corrected but with that being said I cannot stand it when I get home and realize the order is not right. Happens all the time though and about he only thing you can do is complain but most times you get the "yeah right" attitude from the manager when you say you are missing something. There is no way fast food workers should get paid as skilled labor when they cannot prove they have the skill to fill a basic order. I will say I LOVE Noodles and Company for their policy on messed up orders. If you have a messed up order they make it right AND give you a coupon for a free bowl of food next time. That would be a great policy for any of the fast food restaurants, get a messed up order and the next time you can get a meal of your choice. -
I normally cast everything I shoot but I have decided I am going to shoot jacketed bullets for a while. I am needing something in the 208 to 230 grain range. So if anyone sees any on sale please let me know. What brings me to this decision is twofold. First, I want to keep my supply of lead for when I cannot buy lead or jacketed bullets. And second when shooting jacketed bullets out of my silencer it is quieter than shooting my cast bullets. I think that is because a cast bullet has lube grooves and that creates more flight noise. Thanks guys.

Actually we got the best Christmas present we could ever ask for. Her name is Madalynn and she was here a little early for Christmas but a Christmas baby none the less. We could not be happier to have a grand daughter to spoil. Definitely changes the way you view life. My only Christmas wish is for our son to come home and met her next month. He has been deployed since July, and missed the birth, but he should be home within a month.- 152 replies
