Some fuel for the Costa haters... Japanese Airsoft show
Dolomite_supafly replied to TGO David's topic in Training Discussions
Considering it is in Japan and it is at a airsoft convention I would say the rifle is likely an airsoft rifle. Still doesn't change the fact he is acting like a tool. -
I did something that looks and acts like parkerizing. I blasted the gun using medium aluminum oxide at a very high psi. I was running the psi at 110+ And with the course aluminum oxide it gave a finish that, once blued and oiled, looks identical to an parkerized gun that was oiled. After thoroughly media blasting I used Brownells Oxpho Blue CREME. I think the key to a nice looking finish is the Creme. It stays in place and gives a very nice, even finish that takes oil very well. I have never parkerized anything so I admire anyone who can.

The reason why he is denied bond is because of the domestic violence charge. It is normal for any person arrested for DV to be denied bond for 12 hours. This is not an indication that it is any worse than anyone else because every person I have ever known to be arrested for DV had the same thing happen. It is done to allow him to cool off before getting released and for the victim to get away or move out without incident. After 12 hours he will bond out. He definitely has issues but I also believe those issues may not be 100% his fault. Put anyone under the stress he is under and they will not act right. And before anyone asks "what stress" realize he still has people wanting to kill him. Still doesn't excuse DV though.

Conversation about buying & selling reloads.
Dolomite_supafly replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
We will not allow reloads to be sold on TGO. I encourage anyone who sees or knows of an ad selling reloads to report it. You are not being a snitch, narc or rat but what you are doing is saving someone a serious injury. I have been asked by a lot of people if I would reload ammunition for them and the answer to anyone who asks is always no. There is no amount of money that would make me feel comfortable to do it. There are liability and legal reasons why I will never do it. There is too much risk in selling, buying or trading reloaded ammunition. All it takes is one round and a persons life could be ruined. And if the injured person is lucky the seller has insurance but I suspect a lot do not so that leaves the injured party paying for someone else's mistake and that is wrong. Also, the manufacture of ammunition for sale cannot just be done by anyone with a press and free time. It does require federal licensing if you are manufacturing ammunition for sale. I know the ATF doesn't go after them but it is still a law that can have someone owing some hefty fines. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/manufacturers.html#ammo-reloading So anyone selling reloads here needs to have a license before we will allow the sale of reloads. -
You talking about it moving under recoil? If so try some loctite between the rail clamping surface and the barrel nut.

Doing it before submitting keeps you from the hassle of getting a $200 refund on an approved lower. You can get a refund for any NFA item that has not been completed but you money is tied up for several months. You can engrave a lower with anything you want as long as it doesn't obliterate factory markings. And if you do it before it gets approved then you can drop it off for a regular FFL to do it. After approved it can only bf left with a dealer who is leave as to handle NFA items. Anyone, even non licensees, can engrave while you wait. I had just the opposite problem when I had my AK engraved. The engraver did the lettering 1/16" high which makes it nearly impossible to read. He also did it in some dirt of artsy, fartsy cursive type font which makes it impossible to read. At least it is so small most people would never be able to see it. LE Sales has a very nice setup. And although he has never engraved anything for me I will say everything else he has done for me has been perfect so I would expect his engraving to be nothing less than perfect.

Some fuel for the Costa haters... Japanese Airsoft show
Dolomite_supafly replied to TGO David's topic in Training Discussions
I know. I was making a joke about how much real world experience he actually has. Does anyone know if he ever competed in the shooting sports, like 3 gun or similar competitions? Just curious if he actually has a background in what actually works or if he just decided to separate himself from the pack with his unique way of doing things. Not the first time it has happened. One of the biggest phonies is Pat Rogers. Most of his claims have been proven to be false but he sure marketed himself well. He is another person who will never see a dime of mine not anyone who associates with him. -
In 2009 I was told ammunition made after June would expire in 6 months. I was told this by a dealer selling CCI Stingers for $27 a box and Federal Lightnings for $6 a box. I came by the table a little while later and the piles were significantly smaller so he was selling them. The dealer said Obama changed the laws and all ammunition is useless after 6 months.

I knew things would go south quickly when he decided to become best buds with Yeager. I wonder how well those tactics worked for him when he was in combat? :) -
I am clueless about the 5.7.

Looks great. I had done something similar with a 22lr AR I had. -
And if you want to sell it let me know. I remember you had a JW15 at some point as well.

I chuckled a bit then I realized he is the worst kind of gun owner, he wants everyone else to give up their guns. Over the years he has told me some pretty awful things. When he said HP's were designed to maim children he said he would NEVER order them. I later went in with a UPC for subsonic HP 22 ammunition and he said he would not order any. He also said no one should be allowed to own ARs and that military ammunition should not be sold because it is designed to KILL children. I have caught 5.56 ammunition being hidden and when confronted the worker said the manager told them to hide it. He routinely hides HP ammunition as well but I guess he puts it out when he has to hide "more dangerous" ammunition in its place. He said gun owners should only be allowed to own a bolt action rifle. He has also recommended the best pellet rifle for a customer to kill his neighbors dog. The customer was looking at airsoft guns to scare dogs off his property but the manager said he did not want to use the airsoft and showed him a pellet rifle he uses to kill coyotes. The manager said it would kill a dog just as good. I have spoke to management about him several times about all this and they do not care at all. I have even spoke to the regional manager and he blew it off as well. It wasn't a bunch of trainees. Everybody from E-6's on down got the briefing about mouth open shooting.

And where would those mufflers go? I did some testing this week and figured out the noise from the side of the bolt carrier is not that loud at all. I put the tip of my silencer flush with the ground and fired a shot to muffle the report. The gun cycled and the noise level was pretty low. I still need to do a few other things to make sure I need to drill the carrier before I actually do. Another option could be to significantly increase the size of the vents in the side of the bolt. This would slow down the high speed gas without affecting reliability.

For 15 years I have seen first hand what someone's addiction can do a family. My brother has used everything over the years but one constant has been opiates. He has torn our family apart with his drug use and done some pretty horrific things along the way. A I sit here I will probably never talk to him, my father, my mother as well as about 1/2 of my relatives over what has happened. They have all suffered but they also have karma to thank because of what they all have done.

I was in Walmart and watched a guy have the clerk hand him every shotgun. He would rack them violently with his head sort of cocked and his buddy asked him what he was doing. The guy said he was figuring out which gun racked the loudest because that is how you scare away an intruder. I laughed pretty hard at that one and the clerk just shook her head. Had the sporting goods manager at Walmart say hollow point ammunition was designed to maim children. In the military I heard this one more times than I can count. If a 50 BMG passes within a few feet of you it will suck the oxygen out of your lungs and kill you. We even had one "instructor" tell us to shoot it with our mouths open otherwise the concussion from the muzzle blast would kill us. I have heard every conceivable 45 ACP story there is. They say that a grazing shot will rip your leg off. I always laugh and tell them no it doesn't. When they want to argue I show them the scar from where a 45 ACP went through my leg to which they always respond it must have been a dud. Had a gunsmith tell a customer the 17 HMR will vaporize a groundhog and the only thing left would be the teeth. Had a guy swear subsonic ammunition was better than supersonic against an intruder with body armor. He said supersonic would just pass through the bad buy without killing him while the subsonic ammunition would hit the vest and dump all its energy there. He said when the subsonic ammunition would hit it would break every bone in their chest and kill them instantly by stopping their heart. Had a range RSO tell me the LC on surplus ammunition stands for Lenoir City and that is why it is so good. He looked a bit confused when I told him it meant Lake City. I have heard all kinds of silencer myths too. I have been told they make the gun inaccurate, they do not. They reduce the velocity but in actuality they increase velocity. The bullet is less effective when fired out of a silencer. Funny how all those are the effects of having a silencer on a popular game. Another one is they are dangerous because they make a gun so quiet you can't tell if you have shot it which is utter BS.

Caliber on or not on barrel
Dolomite_supafly replied to Pdheald's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Yes, because they are using all kinds of other metals now that lead is getting expensive. Another option might be to call Ruger. Who knows maybe it was a custom order and they did not put the caliber on it or maybe it was a production gun that slipped by. Although I seriously doubt either option actually happened but you never know. -
Every time we tried poultry jerky pet treats the dogs threw up. We quite giving them any treats for pets and give them stuff meant for human consumption if they MUST have a treat. My wife and I have talked about cubing some steaks and dehydrating them for the dogs.

Caliber on or not on barrel
Dolomite_supafly replied to Pdheald's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
There is no legal requirement to mark the caliber on the firearm. As far as what caliber when calling it in you could probably use the bore diameter. About the only way to know with 100% certainty what caliber it uses is to do a chamber cast. There are a couple of ways to do it. First is to use cerrosafe and the other is to pressure cast using lead. I am sure you are aware of the cerrosafe method so I will not go into detail about it. For pressure casting find a cartridge case that has the same case head as the firearm. As far as selecting the case head most guns, at least common calibers, probably use one of probably 5-6 case heads. Most calibers use common case head or rim diameters. Drop some lead bullets, just the lead, into the chamber to fill it up then close the action with the case head in place. Then take a rod and slowly beat the lead down so it slowly fills up the chamber. You will have to add more from the muzzle end as you go until you fill up the chamber with lead. You can cut open a shotgun shell and use the shot from it to slowly fill the chamber up. Once you have measured and you are sure the lead is at least into the throat then open the action and use the rod to knock the casting out. You can tell when you have the chamber filled because it will go from a dull thud to a more solid sound when hitting the rod. The rod should be as close to the bore diameter as possible. -
Glad they decided to fix it for you. I ALWAYS tell people to contact the manufacturer to see if they will fix it first. And from what I have heard DDI is doing good things.

Just the threads. The rest will dry out, get burned off or caked with crud. -

Yeah, shooting 5.56 is never going to be quiet because the high pressures and the supersonic crack of the bullet. -
Cleaning suppressors
Dolomite_supafly replied to samson7x's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Yeah, there is a lot more crud being blown back into the receiver when shooting suppressed and that crud can settle anywhere like inside the magazine. If you think it will be a problem then install an adjustable gas block. They even make 3 way blocks. Once the gas is set you will notice the gun runs a lot cleaner, there is less felt recoil and the empties don't get slung into another county. BTW, what can do you have?
