Chrome lining is not the best treatment any longer. Melonite treatment is far superior to chrome lining. I know chrome lined is milspec but milspec does not mean it is the best. Eventually the military will adopt melonite for its AR barrels too, they already use it for their machine gun barrels. I would take melonite over chrome lined any day. It is more durable, more corrosion resistant and more accurate than chrome lined.

The size has more to do with leading than either the alloy or the lube used. I have shot plain, as in no lube, bullets and got no leading. I have also shot lubed, but undersized, bullets and it took forever to get the lead out. I have shot .313" cast bullets in my 300 Blackout. That is 13 thousandths over the lands and 5 thousandths over the valleys. And I ran the same load I do for .310" bullets without any signs of pressure. So as long as it will chamber it will be ok with cast bullets. And those billets had LONG bearing surfaces and weighed 245+ grains. For my 9mm I use .357" cast bullets and have zero issues.

Looks good but free don't make it right. I get very particular about my guns and even things that I, or anyone else, can't see bother me if I know it is there. And if I hire someone to do something it better be exactly what was promised. A misplaced port would infuriate me and would garner a new barrel at a minimum. I have seen a lot of screw ups by shops and the vast majority do exactly what they did here, not charge. But what exactly are they giving you for nothing. A screwed up gun that was t screwed up when they started. Nothing against you but I would never accept something that someone else screwed up.

Help Overturn 18 USC 922(o) & NFA
Dolomite_supafly replied to JohnC's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
This is all I have been talking about with ANYONE that might happen to make eye contact. I am more excited about this than anything else gun related EVER. I just hope the SCOTUS decides to send it back to the lower court affirming that the ban is unconstitutional. It would make the process much quicker and we would be owning machine guns again. They will still need to be registered causing a massive backlog but they would be approved one day. Or maybe with everything else going on the massive backlog will cause an outcry and the whole NFA thing will be overturned. One can only hope. The way it was passed was underhanded at best and illegal at worst but what would you expect from a person like Charlie Rangel. It sickens me every time I think about it and how easy it would be for any legislator to do the same thing stealing one of our rights away. I also believe there are some gun people who are against the legalization of machine guns. Not because they think they are bad but because they are sitting on millions of dollars of inventory of transferable machine guns. The second a person can buy, or make, their own machine gun that gun that is selling today for $25K would be worth $1K unless it had some historical significance. I can tell you the first gun I will register, actually I will register probably 5 immediately, will be one of my AKs. They would be the most fun to me. And I would Form 1 an DIAS because I could make that in probably an hour with a hacksaw and a set of files. And then I will find some sort of belt fed. So many stamps to file, so little money. http://www.sofmag.com/new-twist-in-machine-gun-suit/ I am looking for the ATF's response, might take me a bit but I read it the other day. Basically they admitted they had no valid reason why the same machine gun is legal before May of 1986 and illegal after. They asked the judge above to rule in their favor though but with her record and her response so far it is very likely she will NOT side with the ATF. There is a lot going on right now related to firearms and 90% of it is good. There are rulings I never thought I would see in my lifetime happening every day. The only monkey in the works is the federal government's unwillingness to abide by the courts or laws. I can see us winning the machine gun case but the fed saying they don't care what the law says and threaten to make you disappear if you get caught doing something THEY don't like even though it is not against the law. -
Another Bizarro from John Sevier Range in Knoxville
Dolomite_supafly replied to Oh Shoot's topic in General Chat
Seems like the RSOs at the Knoxville range have a wealth of knowledge, both good and bad, and give it to you even if you don't ask for it. And you better not act like you are not listening or that you didn't appreciate it or else. Many times they were in the wrong but it was my fault for correcting their unsolicited wrong advice. Like how LC brass is so good because it is made in LENIOR CITY, not Lake City. He acted like a little kid when I told him and his only response was "Isn't Lake City in Tennesse?". -
This is a gun a good friend made. It is 38/357 and he said it is really accurate. I recently threaded the barrel for him and it is a very basic setup that would be super easy to build. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By0cGGY3Ly_7R0tNYW1mMmZEeWM/edit?pli=1

They do have a rule book but it is vague and open for interpretation by who ever is in charge that day. -

I was there when a guy had his gun in a holster on his side. They told him he needed to remove the gun from the holster and unless he was on the line shooting it the gun must be unloaded. Said the gun could not be in the holster while on the range. So there definitely is no drawing and shooting. -
SBR Engraving

If I were to use anything it would be Krylon chalkboard paint. It seems to hold up well to heat. It has a satin finish, rather than flat black, which I think looks better. Rustoleum brand chalkboard paint is flat black. I have used textured paint as a base coat with regular pants on top for several guns. Some have been so hot you cannot touch them and the paint did fine. -
Help Overturn 18 USC 922(o) & NFA
Dolomite_supafly replied to JohnC's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Anyone see the recent rulings in Texas. The judge on the Texas supreme court has ruled the 1986 ban in unconstitutional. Then the question was asked of the ATF with them required to respond on the 21st of March. They were asked for a valid reason why a MG made before 1986 is legal to possess wile the exact same one after 1986 is illegal. The ATF responded with they have no valid reason why but asked the court to side with them anyway. So the case in Texas is close to being done. Next is whether the US supreme court will hear it, if the ATF appeals, or if the US supreme court sends it back to the Texas court affirming the ban is illegal. This is the closest we have been to having legal MG ownership of brand new guns in 30 years. -

My local engraver does a very deep engraving. He said in aluminum it runs .012" deep and in my titanium tube he said it is about .009" deep. I have no reason to doubt him because they are DEEP. His engraver uses air pressure so he can adjust the depth. I can use rattle can on my items and you can easily read the engraving. -
So I bought this gun here on TGO sometime last year with the intention of suppressing it. Problem was the factory barrel had the front sight too close to the muzzle and the front sight was dovetailed in so there was no way I could have moved the front sight back. But rather than give up I bought a Green Mountain barrel blank and made my own barrel. It is 416 stainless, button rifled, stress relieved and air gauged and this thing is amazingly accurate. Part of the accuracy is because I chambered it using a Lilja spec chamber reamer. It is also threaded 1/2-28 at the muzzle and that is my 22 silencer I made 4-5 years ago screwed onto the end of the barrel. The barrel is 18" long making it lightweight and handy. With the suppressor it is extremely quiet with subsonic ammunition. It sounds like I am dry firing it. And I still have the factory 22" barrel if I ever decide to go back to the factory setup but honestly I see no reason to. The sights are from a Contender. The rear is easily adjusted while the front is fixed but I can replace the blade if I so choose. I might add a tang sight at sometime in the future so I can make some really long range shots. If I ever start hunting again the squirrels better watch out. And when the granddaughter gets old enough it will likely get a coat of pink paint. Excuse the dirty gun. I am not a fan of cleaning and this thing is so much fun I have been shooting the crap out of it since it was done.

They do, it is called Jimenez Arms. It is a much better looking pistol and is blowback. Here is their 380: And their 9mm:
-
Because they are blowback they are also probably one of the safest pistols on the market. Plenty of tests out there where people have intentionally over loaded the ammunition and the High Point ate it without a bobble. Iraqiveteran8888 even has a series where he tries to destroy one. It finally gave up when they filled the barrel with powder, drove a bolt into the muzzle then clamped it all together. Before that it survived everything and most of it no other pistol on the market would have survived. A Glock would crawl away begging for mercy at any of the tests their High point survived.

ATF raises new concerns about AR-15 ammo

I just seen a 8.25" FAL pistol in one of the flyers I get so .308 might be the next "evil". http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411549981 -
Gun Screws. Saweeet!
Dolomite_supafly replied to deafdogdief's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
And I need some screws in the 1-2 size for the rear sight on my Contender. I lost one and it makes it difficult to shoot accurately with the sight kind of at an angle. -
FC 223 REM Brass, Worth the Time Reloading?

Velocity has little to do with pressure. I could probably use a fast pistol powder and blow a rifle up without the bullet getting past 1,500 fps -
Kel-Tec's, and that annoying 6K round thing...
Dolomite_supafly replied to Steelharp's topic in Handguns
BTW, most barrels are nothing special. They are rarely, I mean really rarely, hardened in any way. Most are very, very mild steel. The only barrel I have personally come across that was hardened was an original, Israeli made, UZI barrel. It was a pain to thread compared to most barrels. Most barrels though are super soft to make manufacturing easier. -

It is the case head that is soft and the primer pockets will be loose within a loading or two. That is unless you are loading really light pressure loads. -
ATF raises new concerns about AR-15 ammo

Make ALL cops where the same level 4 hard armor our troops wear. I bet LE would be screaming within hours wanting to go back to their soft armor. LE was so worried about getting shot 30+ years ago that they all started to wear armor to stop the most common threat. If they feel that rifle rounds are the most common threat now then they can wear the armor required to stop those rifle rounds. They can walk around with helmets and bullet proof masks too as well as force them to drive police cars with the armor required to stop those rifle rounds. When jurisdictions have to start paying for all that extra gear I suspect those rifle rounds will not be as big of a threat to them. -
A tall tale about an international firearms license.
Dolomite_supafly replied to suspiciousmind's topic in General Chat
I travelled on a diplomatic passport. It was the one that was stamped, not my civilian passport. When I was home it was turned in because some jackass, not me, got in serious trouble on another country and tried to claim diplomatic immunity. I also had a military ID even though I was a civilian. That raised some eyebrows because on that military ID was the picture of a scraggly looking person.
