I have a lever action, single shot, 410 shotgun. Say that three times fast. I think it is neat but pretty useless to me.

Help Overturn 18 USC 922(o) & NFA
Dolomite_supafly replied to JohnC's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I have already had a friend that does not own guns buy my conversion parts. If this gets approved you will not be able to find a MG part for a long time. If it doesn't go our way my friend will just toss the parts in the river. Most I am out is $40. -
Some clues for my next project
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Not really sure at this point but a Howdah type 12 gauge pistol would be cool. It would have to be an AOW but that is not my intention, at least not right now. My intention is a integrally suppressed shotgun to shoot that will shoot subsonic 4 ounce bullets quietly. Imagine how devastating it would be to have a hollow point that is 5/16" wide and 3/4" deep. And who knows, depending on the weapon I end up using I might load some 1 ounce slugs to 2,500 fps. And because it is a "gauge", not a caliber, it is perfectly legal with its .73" bullet. -
Just a few clues for my next project, that is if everything goes as planned. I think I have upset my mold maker so I might need to find another mold maker or use an off the shelf mold or try to make my own. Hoping to have it done by the end of the year.

A silenced, supersonic round is going to be loud because of the supersonic crack. And that crack is the same regardless of the caliber. A 22lr that is supersonic has the same crack as a supersonic 30 caliber. The supersonic crack starts the second it leaves the bore but doesn't get noticeable until about 15 feet from the muzzle and continues until the bullet drops below the speed of sound. And the supersonic crack sounds like a gun shot even though the muzzle blast might be muffled by the silencer. But as far as actual noise levels it is comparable to a 22 lr so unless the target is under 15 feet it is still going to be considered loud to most people. If I were to pick one of the cartridges mentioned in the thread it would be the Grendel but that is based on performance and nothing else. It will be pricey to buy ammunition as well as troublesome to load accurate rounds for but it would come close to what you are looking for. There are other calibers capable of being fired from an AR. The 30 OSSM is somewhere between 30-06 and 300 Win Mag out of an AR. Ammunition is available, expensive but available, and is more than capable of taking ethical shots at 400 yards. Now it will not have the magazine capacity of the others but no matter what you choose there will be tradeoffs. There are also guns available in most of the WSSM calibers, again it will be expensive to buy and shoot but most are more than capable of doing what you are looking for. A good rule of thumb for the 300 Blackout is whatever a 308 Winchester is capable of doing the 300 Blackout can do the same minus 275 yards. That is if you feel comfortable taking deer at 400 yards with the 308 the 300 Blackout will be able to do the same at 125 yards. The 300 Blackout does two things really well, shoot really lightweight bullets really fast and shoot really heavy bullets really slow. And neither of those options works well for long range shots on game. You cannot get enough velocity, even from the muzzle, for most hunting bullets to expand. I LOVE the 300 Blackout but it is a short range cartridge when it comes to taking game. I do not hunt but most that do hunt with the Blackout say shots need to be under 150 yards.

Getting Tailed, what to do
Dolomite_supafly replied to CommsNBombs's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Get pissed all you want but the second you do ANYTING intentionally to instigate the other person, other than honking the horn, you are the instigator. By law a horn is only to be used to avoid an accident. It is not there to tell the person in front of you that the light is green or because you think they are going to slow. Yes, I call people names when they do idiotic things on the road but that is as far as it goes. I know I would bear the majority of the responsibility of I did something to intentionally provoke another and something went real bad. And as Cruel Hand Luke said you need to figure out if what you are going to do is worth it. My wife gets onto me all the time for automatically assuming the worst but that probably keeps me from doing stupid stuff. I will say the one thing that really, really bothers me though is drivers who cross the center line in a curve and forces us off the edge of the road. We will hit the horn every time that happens if we can. I even told my wife I want to install a "panic" button attached to a 170dB air horn but my wife said it is not a good idea and she is probably right but I cannot imagine a more satisfying thing that scaring the living crap out of the driver that just scared the living crap out of us. -
Do you cast or are exposed to heavy metals? I had some heart issues come up after being exposed to all the nasty things in wheel weights.

Portable Hydropower Generator
Dolomite_supafly replied to GlockSpock's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Grab an old cordless drill and make a handle for it. Chuck it into the drill then crank. -
For supersonic the WT has about 200 fps more velocity. There is no other caliber more capable of subsonic shooting than the Blackout. Not sure if either the WT or the 6.8 is capable of ethically taking deer at 400 yards. The Blackout is 200 yards max and I am not sure an extra 200 fps would get you to 400.

It is the stock, not the tube type, that determines what it is. You can use a standard carbine buffer tube to build a pistol. Just be mindful that if you have your carbine buffer equipped pistol and a stock together with no other weapon for the stock to be used on you might get in some trouble. That is don't have your pistol and the stock in a bag or your vehicle with nothing else.

It is still illegal to carry a long gun on your person with ammunition present. An SBR would fall under that as well.

Is it difficult to hunt with an AR pistol? (300 blackout)
Dolomite_supafly replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Long Guns
No they have not, we can still shoulder a bare buffer tube. LumberJack has taken deer with his 300 Blackout pistol. I do not hunt anymore but I see no reason why it would not work. -
Building a 8.5" 300BO AR pistol. Radical Firearms barrel?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Wingshooter's topic in Handguns
I would see if it cycles with subsonic ammunition without a silencer before drilling the port. If it cycles then the port does not need to be drilled but you will still need an adjustable gas block to limit the gas when running a silencer. -
That is a good looking rifle.

As a general rule I supported LE for a long time after I quit LE. But over time I quit supporting them as much as I once did and started viewing them differently. Now I only help individual officers, never departments, and only those I have come to know. But even then I do not trust those I know because they will turn if it benefits them. I do not trust the average officer to do what is right any more. Spent enough time in LE to know that most, not all, officers are no longer about protecting their communities but controlling or imparting their will upon others. It seems like the younger they are the worse it is. If I met an officer I mind what I say and what I do often ignoring them if I can because they are always looking. There are some great officers out there that do what is right all the time but all it takes is a chance encounter with one of the bad ones to ruin your life. Even if the officer is 100% in the wrong, and you get cleared of everything, it will cost you 10's of thousands of dollars to do so while the officer is rarely held accountable. I hated to see people who were probably innocent plead guilty to a lesser charge or reduced sentence because they could not afford the cost of being exonerated. I will tell you a story about my last interaction with LE. I had someone do something to my wife and I that was against the law. What they did was put our name, our address, my phone number and pictures of my wife from Facebook. They posted it on Craigslist telling people to come to my house at a specified time and rape my wife. Figuring this was a plan by my brother, who tried to kill us before, I contacted local LE for help. I gave them all the information as well as asked for a patrol to be present at the time specified in the ad in case some crazy decided to show up. They made all kinds of excuses why they could not help. I begged for help and they said they would not until after it happened. I told the sheriff that if anyone came in my house and tried to harm my wife I would kill them. Then the sheriff acted like I was a criminal for making that statement. Well after it was obvious they were not going to help I contacted my attorney who then called the sheriff. The attorney told the sheriff this was a credible threat because my brother had tried to kill us in the past but the sheriff still refused to have a patrol in the area. My attorney then told the sheriff he would sue him if anything happened at the time specified. Well a few days after my attorney threatened to sue the department two officers showed up at my house out of the blue. They asked for me and my wife told them I was sleeping. The officers did not leave and had my wife wake me up from a nap and come to the door so they could talk to me. The reason? They were there because they wanted to know what kind of guns I had in the house. This was nothing more than a fishing trip by the officers, at the direction from the sheriff, to try to find a reason to throw me in jail after my attorney threatened to sue the department. This happened about 4 months ago and that is why I will not trust officers to do what is right, especially my local ones.

Who is jumping on a neighbor's wifi? I normally do not broadcast but I will enable it for a bit to screw with people.

This is nothing more than another rung in the ladder of confusion that is the ATF. Someone else, who is onboard with Obama's agenda, will be appointed shortly and a slew of new opinions will be announced further limiting our rights. I used to support the ATF as I did any other LE agency but now I no longer view them as a LE agency. The reason is because even though they swore to protect and defend the constitution they continue to attack those rights. If any other agency were to write opinions stating only certain forms of free speech are allowed the liberals would be up in as demanding action but because the ATF is limiting GUN rights the liberals are all for it. I am sure the agents are tired of the differing opinions and constantly changing policies as well.

My router does not broadcast or at least did not. I might broadcast and turn up the signal strength to see if the traffic slows on my dead end road. Not saying we have a bunch of traffic but a lot more than what we should have.

So as my wife was driving me around the other day I noticed my iPhone was polling people's routers. It would tell me the router name and ask to connect. I never do even though most are not secured. That got me thinking that if I am getting their information what information are they getting from me. So when I got home I checked my router and my name was on my router so I assume my it will be on other people's routers. Also, there were several questionable devices in the connection list but they did not connect but showed up in the list. That got me to thinking that I had had better change my name on my phone so when it tries to connect to someone else's router it will not have my name. And while I was at it I changed my router name as well. But I decided to have some with it. So my new name for my phone is "DEA Surveilance Van #8" so as I drive by routers it will show up in their device list. After changing it I checked my router and that is what it says. Along with that I changed my router's name to "DEA Camera #5". I am going to turn the range up so it will show up on people's phones as they drive by. Should make things interesting for the druggies living a few houses away and making daily runs.

every time I have purchased a firearm they FFL has told the TBI the serial number as well as all my information, including my SSN. Now whether they keep it and pass it along I do not know but if I were a betting person I would bet there is a massive excel file owned by the .gov with all that information.

The 5 Most Ridiculous Rail Hangers
Dolomite_supafly replied to gun sane's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
This is pretty ridiculous! Truck nuts for your gun. -
I never charge a case with powder until the previous case has a bullet seated. That keeps distractions or memory issues from causing problems. I can walk away for days and I will never have to wonder where I am in the process and it is no slower. Step 1. Grab an empty, primed, case and drop the powder then seat the bullet. Step 2. See step 1
