Semi Scientific examination of 45 ACp from a pistol caliber carbine
Dolomite_supafly replied to zgunbear's topic in Long Guns
My wife has a Savage in 45 ACP and it can handle some extreme pressures. I have loaded ammunition for it that would sting to shoot. It too is boringly accurate. -
Would anyone pay this?!?
Dolomite_supafly replied to deafdogdief's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Funny, my local Walmart had Varget the last time I was in there. They also had more primers than I have ever seen them have before. -
People that do things like that should be euthanized. Leaving the dog out to get frostbite then the owner cutting off the feet of the dog to repair the damage. That was probably pretty barbaric.

Yet another boring suppressor thread.....

Sounds like the prices might drop on a discontinued silver to me. If I had to have one pistol can it would be the Ti-Rant. -
What makes her even more awesome is the fact she likes guns and really likes shooting. She was the one who pushed me to finally get into the NFA world and build, or buy, a silencer. And since then she has been urging me to get a machine gun as well but it is out of the budget for now. She loves her guns and has almost as many as I do. She isn't like a typical women, which I absolutely love about her, because she doesn't like to shop. She is the voice of reason when I start making foolish decisions.

I married the perfect women. Compassionate, caring, the best mother to our son, sweet, funny, smart but the most important title is that she has, and will always have, is the love of my life. I can honestly say without her I would not be what I am today or where I am. And through all of it, including the bad, she was right by my side to take care of me, protect me but most of all love me unconditionally. And I can never repay her for all she has done for me or endured on my behalf. And so another wonderful year begins with the perfect person for me, my best friend, my soul mate

I am an AR guy through a through but it is far from being the best. Heat kills springs and causes metal to become brittle. The bolt, and carrier, get heated very, very quickly in a DI AR. In piston guns, including a piston AR, they bolt remains relatively cool. Definitely not hot enough to affect springs or cause the bolt to become brittle. The current Army issue AR is probably the worst gun that we could buy. The twist is too fast, the barrel is too short, the caliber is a short range caliber and the caliber is not even remotely lethal at the distances we are trying to use it at. If you wanted to improve the current AR in a single step it would be to replace the barrel with a 9 or 12 twist and lengthen it to at least 18". That would turn the AR back into a weapon that is lethal. But even so it is still a very limited because of the caliber. 6.5mm or 7mm TCU is a much better option with nothing more than a barrel change but even with that we are still left with the AR.

Thoughts About an Emergency Food Supply
Dolomite_supafly replied to EssOne's topic in Survival and Preparedness
There is no way I would evacuate and go anywhere the government tells me to go. There are way too people in charge who do not care about my family or I. There is no way I could carry everything so the best option for me is to bug in. Bugging in makes it easier to defend myself because I can guarantee any place the government wants you to go will be a gun free zone. I have enough food to sustain my family for a long time without hunting. I have plenty of game in my area and I will defend it the same way I would defend my family's life because if you take the game you are potentially causing my family to starve and I will not allow that to happen. Same thing goes for any other resource I have access, and a right, to. People, not you, think they are going to bug out to the hills but there are already people in those hills and the majority do not want outsiders coming in taking resources. And those that think they are going to take my resources are going to be met with an overwhelming amount of firepower. For water I have a well with a hand pump I made but I also collect water in barrels and all of that will be filtered through a Berkey filter. I would STRONGLY suggest getting some sort of water filter. You can buy personal water filters for $20 that will filter 250+ gallons of water. They are a lot easier to carry on your person than the amount of water the average person will need. And if you think about it population centers are going to be a lot easier to survive in than the "hills". You already have shelter, you know the area, your supplies are already there and when help comes it will be in the population centers first. Water is much easier to come by in the cities. It is much easier to defend as well. Travelling will be nearly impossible from the population centers and if you do make it out you will be easy pickings for bands of thugs. The average person would not last more than two weeks in the hills, they would die from dehydration or the elements depending on the time of year. -
It is sitting in some sort of gallery somewhere I am sure. I have seen similar idiotic things for sale in galleries.

Need help keeping an eye out for something
Dolomite_supafly replied to Luke E.'s topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I am pretty sure there are different levels of FFLs based on what you are going to do. An FFL to ONLY do transfers is different than an FFL that will be repairing, or painting, guns. But as far as needing to be a manufacturer to paint a gun that is not so. I do specifically remember that because at the time there were a lot of FFLs that go really pissed. The reason was because in the same industry letter that stated you needed a manufacturers license to apply paint they also specifically stated that a manufacturer's license was needed to add or change the sights of a firearm, including adding irons to ARs. There was an uproar from within the community and within a month there was another industry letter, which is unheard of, revising what was said in the previous letter. I will see if I can find the revision for you. What has likely happened is the agent read the letter that said people needed manufacturer's licenses and it stuck in his brain or he never read the update. Agents are wrong all the time. Had a manufacturer tell me, when I was getting me lower engraved, that the ATF required him to engrave "short barrel rifle" on any registered lower. I told him he was wrong and I had to go somewhere else to prevent it but he was adamant the agents told him he had to. -
Buy a Burris Fast Fire or a Docter optic. They are just as good and a lot cheaper. I have an original Burris FF and it has been on everything without issue.

ETSY sells about 10 different colors. They are all the same brightness but our eyes see certain colors better than others.

There will be a 9mm AK coming to market this year. I cannot wait as I would like it over an MP5.
-
I bought some tritium vials and installed one myself. I had to use a carbide drill bit to drill the front sight on my shield. Total cost was under $15. ETSY sells them and I bought some 2mm x 6mm. They are big enough but I would have preferred 3mm x 6mm instead. I used two part epoxy to hold it in place v I also use glow in the dark powder, not the premixed paint, to do sights as well. I buy the powder then mix it with 2 part epoxy and it is impervious to solvents. The glow powder is much brighter initially and is brighter than tritium for an hour or so them it is dimmer than tritium. But all you need to do is hot it with a flashlight for a second and it is good for another hour or more. The benefit of tritium is it does not need to be charged.

I always start at 20% and go down from there or if everything is perfect we give a more. Good service os hard to find anymore. We normally get the two extremes, wait staff that onviously do not want to serve or be there or those that will not leave you alone and let you eat. Has a manager ask us to do a survey on an iPad just as we got our food. We told him not now and he acted confused why we wanted to eat first. Had others that ask us how the food is every time they walk by, every minute, and want to discuss why they like it too. Those aggravate me more than any others because we do not want to be rude but we also want to eat. But we recently went to Longhorn Steakhouse and had a really great experience. Did everything we asked and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. We asked for nutritional menus and the manager printed them out and brought them out personally to speak to use. Could not say enough good things about it. Again, perfectly.

My number has not changed for at least 10 years. Yes I do remember you.

Get a barrel that is melonited. It is better than anything else, including chrome lined. They are making BCGs that are Aldo melonited and, dare I say, they too are better than anything else. As far as twist I would get an 8 or 9 twist and forget the 7 twist. I can pm my number so you friend can talk to me.

This is why I LOVE my Savages. I have yet to have one that is not this accurate. I had some that had some heat related drifting because of their off center bore but even those shot amazing groups before the barrel warmed. What you need now is a silencer to go with it. I have been working on, and building, my Savages for about 10 years now. When I first got into "tactical rifles" I called a friend and asked which is better Remington or Savage. He said Remington is better but Savage is more accurate out of the box. I could have just as easily been a Remington guy had I not wanted the most accurate rifle. A Savage is like the 10/22 of the centerfire world. You can change out EVERYTHING, including calibers, at home without the need of a gunsmith. I am getting ready to build another Savage but this one will be a little different. It will be a 12 gauge with a rifled bore. I am going to see how well I can get it to shoot 2+ ounce slugs by loading it like a traditional rifle. Should be a fun project and if it does turn out to be a really accurate package I might build a silencer for it as well.

Is it difficult to hunt with an AR pistol? (300 blackout)
Dolomite_supafly replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Long Guns
If you have any questions or just want to speak 300 Blackout feel free to get a hold of me. I would be glad to give you my number. I have about every platform that can be had in 300 Blackout and it is my "forever" caliber. I will never be without a 300 Blackout and would give up any of my 223's in order to keep a 300 Blackout. I am very, very active in the 300 Blackout community and any problem that you might have I have probably seen before. -
