Finally took my wife to shoot the ar, need some guidance
Dolomite_supafly replied to hlb14's topic in Long Guns
I would not use a piston system. Not because an adjustable gas block would not work but because of the added weight. With a female shooter I would try to build the gun as light as possible. Also, my wife doesn't like all the tactical do dads I tend to put on a gun. She prefers a gun that is minimalistic. -
Health care rates going way up next year
Dolomite_supafly replied to xsubsailor's topic in General Chat
It is all about control. Once the government has control over your health they control. They can choose who will and will not receive the lifesaving card they need and slowly kill off the opposition. BTW, you can still get great insurance that is also very affordable. Problem is they are not Obamacare approved and because of that you will have to pay the fine for not having insurance. But a premium of $100 a month and a $300 annual fine is still a lot cheaper than anything from the exchange and even cheaper if you actually have to use it. My wife was quoted insurance for under $100 a month when the exchange was going to be $200+. The unapproved insurance had a much lower deductible and covered 80% versus 50% of Obamacare. And it also had very low co-pays and no lifetime limits. Obamacare is nothing more than a way to pander to his supporters. Not even those that support him say Obamacare is better for them. Once everyone figures it out Obamacare will go from fining people to throwing them in jail. But how ironic will it be to get thrown in jail, and get free healthcare, for not having approved insurance. -

I have been preaching the benefits of a tuned gun for a very long time. In most cases it requires an adjustable gas block. I had a guy tell me a heavy buffer would be better to push through crude but that is just not so. Kinetic energy increases by a factor of 2 with weight increases and he same energy increases by a factor of 4 with an increase in speed. So a faster, lightweight buffer will have more energy than a slow, heavy buffer. So as the buffer is returning to battery the lighter buffer is not only faster to return to battery for faster follow up shots but it also has more energy to get past any crude. Another added benefit is there is less felt recoil because a gun that is tuned with a lightweight buffer hits the bottom of the buffer tube with less force. Then it comes to a complete stop before returning to battery. You use the adjustable gas block to slow the bolt, carrier and buffer as the gun extracts, ejects and impact the buffer tube. After that the spring pressure is what pushes past the crude and with a lighter, faster buffer it does it better. -
I generally take pictures of the serial number of newly purchased guns, especially if I plan on vehicle carry.

So what retailers, online and storefront, are having memorial day sales?

I am afraid of him doing some last minute executive orders banning the import of foreign ammunition and firearms. And out of respect they would NEVER get overturned by any other president. I have 17 months to buy as many "assault weapons" because no matter what happens in the election they will be more valuable. I can honestly see Hillary winning and she has already said that gun owners terrorize the US populace so I expect her term as president will be a true, in every sense of the word, assault on gun owners and their gun rights. Her husband did it so why not expect her to do the same. And it is not because they hate firearms, it is because they hate for the peasants to have a means to resist. Gun control is not about guns but it sure is hell about control, control of the populace by the ruling class. What I am really looking forward to seeing is his presidential pardon list. Every president does it but I suspect we will see a lot more than usual and that those he will pardon are considered threats to the United States. Ever wonder why he pushed for the terrorists to be tried in US courts rather than military tribunals? Possibly to make a presidential pardon possible.

David, DLM37015, will tell you to carry factory ammunition because he had to go through the court's antics after he was involved in a shooting. Prior to him telling me the story I carried hand loads, 147 grain 9mm at 1,200 fps, but now I carry factory ammunition. Personally I felt my 147 grain Gold Dots at 1,200 fps are more effective than anything else on the market at the time. A lot of people think 147 grain bullets can only be used for subsonic but that is not the case. This also begs the question if a shooter were to modify their firearm in any way could they not get scrutinized in the same way? Almost all of us here, at some point, have carried a modified gun. Some could argue that those night sights were installed to make it easier to kill someone, damn right, and because of that it shows you went out looking to do harm to someone. We all know it is all BS but in today's society the defendant's attorney want to vilify the victim. BTW, I carry a modified handgun loaded with factory ammunition. Am I worried? Not particularly because if it is a good shoot, it is a good shoot and what I have done to the gun should not even come up. Now if it is a bad shoot then I have a whole lot more to worry about than the modifications I have done to my firearm. Now it might come up in a civil trial for wrongful death but I am a lot more worried about loosing my freedom than being sued by poor little Johnny's mother who said he was a good boy and that he could not have tried to harm anyone. I know I am sending mixed opinions but in the end if the shoot is good you should be fine regardless of the gun or ammunition used. The road to the end might be a little bumpy but if you know in your heart what you did was right then a jury will see the same thing. BTW, if you end up shooting someone expect to be sued even if you don't kill them. I know we are immune to civil suits if the shoot is "justified". But a lawsuit can still be brought and it MUST be heard by a judge. No matter the expected outcome I would NEVER find myself standing in front of a judge without a lawyer. So even if the shoot is 100% justified expect to be out of pocket $3K-$5K to retain a lawyer. So even if the shoot is good expect some hardships.

Without a doubt the firearms community have more fear mongers than any other industry. And for a lot of those that strike fear in the hearts of gun owners do it for financial gain. And we, as gun owners, get drawn right in and perpetuate things like our current ammunition shortage/gouging. Ever since I first really started watching gun related legislation there have been some insane bills. I remember legislation against "sniper" rifles in response to he DC sniper. It said something like any gun capable of 3" groups or smaller would be banned but like all the other crazy legislation it went no where. I also remember legislation introduced to tax ammunition by the round at a crazy rate. A lot of the bills introduced are done so with no intention of them ever being passed into law. They are introduced so they can tell those they represent they are doing this or doing that. And it happens on all sides.

It will. That is the most common setup for M92 rifles.

Those parts should be enough US parts to get you there without the need to use US made magazines.

How to survive a carjacking

That is really, really irresponsible. 99% of people are not going to be able to do any of those techniques without training. A four minute video is hardly enough. -
AK / NFA smith in middle TN
Dolomite_supafly replied to csaxj3's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I am going to do the same thing. I am going to drill out the rivets to remove the Draco trunion then install the AKM trunion and drill and tap it for screws to hold it in place. -
Did you buy his Krink? It is an amazing gun.
-
Only if you are using US made magazines. Adding a US made FCG, like a Tapco, will do it. It improves the trigger so much I install them on every AK.
-
No, it will take a lot more if you plan on using foreign magazines. The stock is the stock regardless if it has an American hinge or not. Basically these are the US made parts that are the easiest to replace to get the US part count high enough to use foreign magazines. Muzzle device Hammer Trigger Disconnect Pistol grip Stock If you are only going to use US made magazines then you can eliminate three of those things on the list. You can also replace the forearm with US made and it will replace one of the items on the list above. 922r must be complied by everyone, not just manufacturers or importers. And because you are making a rifle that could not be imported it must meet 922r. Here is what you can use to verify US parts counts. http://thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/BuildAkVerifyCompliance ALL M92s have a slanted receiver. It is a 6 degree slant which is plenty to screw up how the stock looks and feels. It is possible to run it without the shim but your stock will have a significant downward slant to it. Better jump on it, they are in stock. http://stormwerkz.com/accessories/yugo-m92m85-tapered-shim/ Might be another year before they have them in stock again. I waited close to a year before I could get one.
-
The rear of the receiver is at an angle so you need s spacer to get the stock to look or feel right. Stormwerkz makes the angled spacers but they are perpetually sold out. I made my own then lucked into the Stormwerkz spacer. I did the exact same thing but If I had to do over again I would probably spend the extra $600-$800 and buy an already built "Krinkov" from Arsenal. Only thing you need to do with theirs is hacksaw the barrel then put a crown on it. It also comes with the correct stock setup, better sights and the correct muzzle threads because they ARE real "krinkovs". Also be aware the M92 has the worst sights ever put on a firearm. They look the part but shooting decent groups are almost impossible, even with a stock. I was able to fab up a rear ghost ring and it does help out a lot but it is still far from perfect. Even though it is SBRd and looks perfect I rarely shoot it. I even talked about selling it but it wears my trust name which is a hard sell. BTW, "Krinkov" is an American term and has never been used by the Russians or any other combloc country. The name the Russians did give it is "Sucha" which loosely means "little bitch". And one more thing, be aware that when you convert the M92 "pistol" I to a "rifle" it MUST be 922r compliant. So you will need to replace a lot of the foreign parts with US made parts. The Arsenal is already 922r complaint and although it is more expensive there is no added expense of buying spacers or U.S. made parts.

Price will indicate whether it has a Shilen barrel or not. I am always skeptical of any small sellers making big claims. And considering it is difficult to prove otherwise it makes very easy for a seller to lie. There are tons of decent 300 Blackout barrels for under $125.

Possibly moving to TN, need some advice on laws
Dolomite_supafly replied to MrJones79's topic in General Chat
It is perfectly legal to mail your guns to yourself in another state. Hunters typically do this on hunts in different states. If not then I would pack them up in cases without ANY ammunition present. Remove any, and all bumper stickers, and drive with the flow of traffic. The way to prevent an issue in some of those states is to keep from getting pulled over. Please do not bring a single ounce of the Massachusetts liberal mentality with you.- 41 replies

Funny how they say the XD-S is the first, and only, single stack handgun from Springfield. Guess they don't know about the 1911's they make.

An adjustable gas block will reduce blowback significantly. It also helps the gun run cleaner and reduce felt recoil. -

I can do offset as well but it isn't as easy. -
There are some loads that are considered optimum loads. That is they work well in a wide variety of weapons. One of them is the Federal Gold Medal Match (FGMM). The same holds true for certain hand loaded ammunition. One load that seems to work really well across the board for a lot of people, with a wide variety of guns, is 24.5-24.7 grains of Varget and the 69 grain Sierra Match King. I was searching when I seen this recipe mentioned so I tried it and have stuck with that one if I am loading for accuracy. I have dozens of confirmed 1/2 MOA groups using that recipe in at least three different guns. I think it has more to do with the powder charge than the bullet weight so you could try it with heavier bullets. That charge is on the low end of the recipe so there is plenty of room to increase the bullet weight. Out of a 26" barrel 24.5 grains gives 2,950 fps with the 69 grain bullet. Out of a 16" barrel it is at a much more sedate 2,350 fps. So each inch of barrel length adds ~60 fps depending on the gun. I really do need to break out the 223 bolt gun and shoot it but it is boring shooting a gun at 100 yards that is capable of so much more. BTW, I bet there are a few in this thread who use this same recipe.
