The only problems I have ever heard about is some of its pistol ammunition but that was at least a decade ago. PSA just had Federal 55 grain for $109/420 after rebate.

Goodbye Russian ammunition
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Name one ban import ban related to firearms or ammunition that has been lifted? There has been an import ban on Chinese ammunition and firearms, other than "sporting", since the 90's and it will remain that way until well after I am dead and gone. And since then we have had several presidents that could have reversed that but Bush decided to actually keep it in place and I bet the Don will too. If contend that if we can buy other Chinese goods then we should be able to buy all Chinese goods but it is our government who is deciding that stuff related to guns is verboten. They claim to do it in order to hurt them financially but if that were the case then we could ban the import/export of other things, instead of firearms and ammunition, and have a bigger impact. Our government is anti gun and they will continue to chip away, little by little, at our gun rights until we are left with nothing more than our fists to defend ourselves. If the metals market has bottomed out why is ammunition still climbing? Perhaps it is because manufacturers know that is what the market will bear. When cheap ammunition goes that will only increase the price those manufacturers can charge. If our government lifted ammunition bans from every country in the world the ammunition market would tank and we would see prices drop to ridiculously low prices. The exact same thing has happened to the AR market, as startups flooded the market with cheap ARs the prices dropped. The same exact situation could happen with ammunition if those who purport to be our allies would lift the bans in place but I have a better chance of hitting the lottery. -

I have said for a very long time I would vote for a newcomer over a current politician, did it last election. Dare I say it but I did not vote for Trump, glad he is doing what he said he would do but I had serious doubts about that as well as all the other politicians on the ballot. I couldn't bring myself, standing at the poll, to pull the D handle but that didn't mean I voted R either, because I didn't. And if you haven't figured it out yet, I voted for Larry the weed guy for President. At least if he became president I wouldn't be giving two ####s about the world right now as I ate my way to 300 pounds. I do what I can, I do make calls and do send emails. I am passionate about rights and not just mine but everyone else's because when someone else looses their rights mine go right along with theirs. That is why I get so damned pissed off, I put in the effort and others have a C'est la vie attitude when it comes to preserving their own rights. At some point everything going on will affect every single one of us so I send the emails and make the phone calls, even if most won't, because it seems like no one else gives two ####s until it hits them square in the nuts. The time to fight isn't when you are against the ropes but we you have freedom of movement. We are at war and loosing almost every battle with the liberal mindset that is destroying our country. Even here in Tennessee we are a lot closer to becoming a blue state than anyone probably realizes. Look at every major population center and you will see they are run by liberals. It is just a matter of time before we turn blue unless we can get off our collective asses and come together as a unified front against those who wish to do us in. Our representatives, the ones we elected, refuse to take a stand on our behalf so we need a change, even if that means an election cycle of other than republicans, to send a message that we are fed up. That is why Trump got elected, now if we can do with our state representatives we might actually have a fighting chance. As long as the Grand Old Party remains in office we will continue to loose our God given rights, maybe not as fast as with a bunch of liberals but then end result will be the same. -

It isn't an attack on gun owners but it will definitely impact gun owners and it is well within our legislators power to minimize the impact to us. The legislation prevents any business dealings with those companies on the list, regardless of the product. Rostec owns Tula Ammunition and Wolf ammunition is produced by Tula. Both would be affected by this. Primers would also be affected as it is a ban on business dealings, not specific products so it could include a myriad of other products produced by those companies. It could also affect US companies that export products to Russia if those exports go to any of these companies or the banks that also do business with the sanctioned companies. Imagine this in terms of gasoline. Some people use the cheapest gas possible while others only use the highest grade possible but the majority of gasoline users use cheap gasoline. And when the cheap gasoline runs out gas prices will increase because of a shortage, like we have seen before. I remember buying premium at $5.50 a gallon when cheap regular unleaded ran out. Getting rid of cheap gas would increase gas prices, simple economics. Ammunition prices have continued to climb since at least 2010 and often times we hear that the reason for this is because material costs have risen but if you actually look at the materials used to make ammunition it has remained relatively stable, even decreasing if you account for inflation. Lead has remained steady while copper has fallen in value during the same time that ammunition has continued to climb. I believe the reason is because ammunition manufacturers, because of shortages, have raised prices because they know consumers will buy it. And while I do not have a problem with that do not tell me materials are the reason when they are not. When ammunition is in short supply the prices will climb setting a new "norm" for pricing, just like 22 ammunition has. The increase in the cost of 22 ammunition is not because it costs more but because shortages have caused them to raise prices based on shortages. And this shortage caused by a lack of cheap ammunition will undoubtedly cause a shift in pricing across the board costing us all and it could easily be prevented by exempting ammunition being imported from the sanctions about to be imposed. Hopefully it doesn't happen and all this was an exercise in futility but either way I stand by my statement that those representatives telling us they are our friends are acting like they are not. We could get anything we wanted passed right now but they refuse. We are about to loose more gun freedoms than we have in a very, very long time and our representatives are the ones allowing it to happen. They could easily reel in the ATF and their lawless ways of rewriting law but they won't. Instead they are making criminals out of law abiding citizens overnight and without a change in the law. And because of that we are going to see a lot more restrictions and leading that charge we have Paul Ryan advocating for a lot of what the ATF is currently doing. I never said I wanted to vote democrat but I refuse to vote republican any more because they have time and time again they say one thing then do another. Maybe I will just stay home next year instead of pulling the voting handle while holding my nose. I suspect next year a lot of "our" representatives will be wondering what happened because if national reciprocity, at a minimum, doesn't get passed a lot of gun owners are going to stay home. -

Sorry for the rant. I just get sick and tired of those who are supposed to be our allies in this fight to maintain our gun rights do things that harm those rights. Our super majority will not do one single thing to advance gun rights then when we loose control of both the house and senate they will try then use that failure as political fodder to try to get back into office. How about they do these things now to stay in office rather than wait and use it as an excuse to reelect them. -

It isn't about the caliber, it's about the availability of ammunition. Dare I say it but this will affect more AR owners than AK owners because there are WAY more AR owners in the US. Even if you never but or shoot cheap steel cased ammunition this will affect you because those that normally buy cheap ammunition will be forced to buy more expensive ammunition creating more of a demand, increasing the price. -

Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Wait until cheap ammunition isn't available. That void will cause our domestic "surplus" to bounce back up like it has in the past during shortages, when it can be found. It will also affect pretty much every other centerfire caliber as well. The neck beards will be buying it all up and selling it out of the backs of their 80's vans like they did with .22 for so long and we haven't fully recovered from that shortage yet. And with all the new shooters coming onboard in the last 3-5 years this will have a MAJOR impact on ammunition availability across the board. This will affect the firearms industry across the board because people will not want to shoot their guns and guns that people know they can't afford to shoot will not be upgraded or even built or bought. Firearm accessories will loose their luster when the gun they are going on cannot be shot. The cost of attending training classes just went up substantially and for a lot of people it will be out of reach, significantly affecting that aspect of the firearms industry. I guess if you are in the business of selling reloading supplies you are about to hit the boom cycle. Congress has done nothing to help gun owners since we had the majority and nothing positive has happened since we have had a super majority. I ask again how are they helping us gun owners? How have they hurt us gun owners? Weigh the two, I have and I see nothing positive coming out of Washington. National reciprocity? Never going to happen. HPA or HUSH, never going to happen. At least they could do no harm but they can't even do that because we are also about to loose anything that the ATF determines can increase the rate of fire, not just bump stocks. Congress could end that instantly but they are going to stand idly by as we loose another battle because they do not want to take sides or rock the boat. They would rather stand in the corner and hope no one notices they aren't doing anything rather than stand for something. Look at all the import bans enacted over the years that directly affect gun owners, they could easily lift each and every one but that is NEVER going to happen. I am not going to lay down and give up but I am not going to support those who say they are my friend when their actions prove otherwise. I just hope there are a lot of independents on the ballot next year. For all of those who seem to have a problem buying stuff from our "enemy", look around your house. I bet the keyboard you are typing on and the screen you are viewing it on says "Made in China". The cell phone in your pocket, Made in China. The silverware you just ate your meal with, yep, Made in China. And in case you haven't noticed China is just as communist and supplying our enemies with a lot more than these ammunition and gun companies. Russia is not our biggest threat, China is and yet we seem to buy a lot of cheap goods from them. -
Our Republican congress has passed sanctions that will affect the importation of Russian ammunition. If you shoot ANY ammunition that is made in or imported from the Russian republics this will affect you. Tula is the biggest brand that is going to be banned but it will also affect a lot more brands as well. It requires Trump to put into effect five different sanctions. Any one of the list would greatly affect us but he must choose five off the list. That ensures we will never see this ammunition again. Remember this was passed by "conservative" representatives WE put into office. Our representatives are the ones who banned VEPR rifles and now they are going to ban a lot more things, including ammunition, from importation. Baikal, manufacturer of budget shotguns will also be banned form import. Here is a list of companies that are banned from doing business in the US. It also has a list of the sanctions that will be imposed on those companies come January 29th. https://www.whitecase.com/publications/alert/state-department-identifies-parties-operating-defense-and-intelligence-sectors The sanctions were voted on and passed by the congress that WE put in office and will go into affect 29 January. So once again our "conservative" leaders have screwed over gun owners. I am telling you they want the populace unarmed so they can exert even more control over us. That is why they are refusing to do ANYTHING to advance gun rights, unless it gives them control over us or increases their personal wealth. There is plenty of pro gun legislation they could easily pass, with popular opinion, yet they refuse to do so. Washington is corrupt and broken as well as almost every single representative in our state. I am done voting for any conservative because they have continued to lie, cheat and steal their way into office and once there they refuse to listen to those they represent. Four years, that is how long I have been trying to get a response from one of my representatives, four years. They have zero interest in listening to those who have elected them. It sickens me to think I voted for them the last election, I will not make that mistake ever again. So from now on I am no longer voting party lines, if it has an "R" next to its name I will not vote for them. If no independent is on the ballot I will default to voting for a "D". I would rather deal with a "enemy" that is honest about what they are trying to steal rather than a "ally" who steals from me when I am not looking.

Unless you grew up in the "country" you should really stay where you are. there are plenty of people who plan on bugging out and I wonder where. Most of them say they plan to head to the hills which is a huge problem because there are already people in those hills living there right now. And those people are going to defend their location or at least I know I will. And don't expect others to openly welcome a large group of people. I know I won't welcome anyone unless they bring a significant skill to the group and honestly I can't imagine what that skill might be that isn't already covered. There are less than 5 people that will be invited in and all others will be turned away with overwhelming amount of force. I will say this to all of those planning on bugging out to the hills. I will defend what is mine, including land, from any squatters or looters. After all if you show up and try to take what isn't yours you are a thief. That includes wild game, plants or anything on my property even if I do not need it or not using it that stuff is still mine. I may have more than I need to survive but I will not share any of it with complete strangers. I have made preparations to ensure my survivability and I would be a fool to give any of it up to complete strangers. It takes a lot of land to support a person year around. An acre or two isn't going to cut it. It will likely take 10's of acres per person. Anyone who has hunted, both for meat and vegetables, knows that it will take a lot of land to support a hunter/gatherer lifestyle. And what makes the average person think they are going to make it out of a population center before the other 50% of the other people leaving the cities clog the roadways? What is going to happen is the highways are going to clog like Rita/ Katrina leaving them stranded and with the option of walking to the "hills" or walking back to the cities. And when you start walking you are going to be able to carry far less than what you left with or even left behind. Bugging in has some real advantages and if I lived in a city I would, without a doubt, stay put. First is you already have everything you are going to have without the need to transport it to a new location. You can call for help from those around you while in a remote location you cannot call for help. Another big advantage is you know the area. You also know who friend and who foe is or at least have a good idea. Travelling exposes you to more dangers. It is also easier to defend a building or high rise than a tent in the woods. Those buildings are going to protect you from the elements and be easier to keep warm in and survive in for the average person especially those used to living in the city. Food, at least initially, will be easier to come by in the cities as well as potable water. There are literally a few weeks worth of potable water in your water heater and toilet bowls and that is if you don't ration. With rain gutters, collecting water is much easier too. And as disgusting as it might sound cities have tons of rodents or stray animals that can be harvested for food. If any type of relief or supplies is going to be handed out it is going to be in the population centers first, not in the middle of a forest. The average person is going to have a far easier time surviving in the city than in the "hills". But if you must bug out and have any hope of bugging out you must be packed and ready to go in a moments notice. Vehicles have to ALWAYS have the gas needed to make it to the remote location. When the SHTF gas will be gone within minutes unless you are at the pumps pumping your gas as it takes place. You need to also realize that there are going to be a lot more people than just you heading to a bug out location. This is going to clog the roadways like we saw during Rita/Katrina. The only way you might get a head start is if you are in a position to get some notice, like LE, emergency services or the government would get to prepare. Otherwise it is going to be a race to get out and if you are not in the lead you will find yourself stuck in the rear. And once you are stuck you and your stuff become vulnerable to roaming bands of thugs set on taking your stuff for themselves. And honestly it would be easy picking. As far as your bug out location you need to own the property you plan to go to. This can give you a little bit of a delay in the squatters that will show up. And once there, the squatters are not going to readily leave even if you tell them you own the property. If your bug out location is "public lands" you are not going to be the first there, it will be like winning the lottery if you are. You are going to find yourself surrounded by thousands of others who have the same plan. Most people don't realize that best case scenario crops will be edible in 4 months. If it happened today we are looking at 6-7 months before crops can begin to be harvested. So that means you are going to have to transport that much food because you are not going to be able to kill a years worth of food with everyone else trying to do the same thing. And as much as I hate to say it in order to survive people must loose their conscience. They must be willing to turn those less fortunate away unless they bring a substantial advantage to the group. People have this grand illusion that they are going to be able to find virgin land to live off of. Look around, how much public land do you see? And of that how much is going to be free for the taking, not much if any, by the time they make it?

It is a gas issue, buy an adjustable gas block and you can tune the cycling issues away.

Check the firing pin protrusion. That is the only thing that tends to need tweaking to squeeze the last bit of accuracy out of the gun. .035" is about perfect but no more than . 042". Most are typically over .050". Also, make sure to give the barrel a good scru then never clean it again until accuracy starts to fall off. Depending on the barrel it could take a few hundred rounds before it settles down and really starts shooting well. It will not shoot its best right off the bat. My best shooting Savage, with a factory barrel, shot ~3/4" after I gave it a good cleaning. At about the 600 round mark since the last cleaning it was shooting .3's at 100 yards using handloads. Make sure you can slide a dollar bill between the stock and barrel the majority of the way back. Check will the forearm is resting on the bag. If you are using a bipod be aware it can cause accuracy problems because of harmonics. I STRONGLY recommend using a good bag over a bipod.

We have spoke and have similar feelings regarding our families. My mother and father are still alive and I am sure I am going to regret not talking with them for 9 years now but I cannot pretend nothing is or ever was wrong. I will say I am who I am because of my parents mostly because they were who I did not want to be. My father, an alcoholic, abused me until I outgrew him then the emotional torment started. I drive by their house every single day, not because I want to but because I have to, and it used to dredge up some awful feelings. It often reminded me of all the bad things that has happened to my family and I. But as of late I have been able to see them without getting sick from hate and without my thoughts wandering to all the bad things. Perhaps, one day, I will be able to forgive them and I hope it is before they die but I am not sure it is possible. I am sure we could write volumes regarding our experiences but for me I am hoping all those bad memories die with me. Look to the future and do not dwell too much on the past. The past is where is where it should be and the only thing that matters is what do from this very second forward. If you dwell on the past it will eat you up, Lord knows it has and still does eat at me almost daily. I have often used the past as the excuse for my failures but in retrospect it was my past that have lead to more successes than failures. My biggest motivator in my adult life was my parents because I did not want to be like them. But no matter how hard I try, some of them comes out of me. Fortunately I am now able to chose which parts I let come out so it is only the good parts now. Take the good parts of your mother, hold them tight in your memories and speak highly of those good things. It will be those good things that your daughter will carry, and use, as motivation to do good like you. But in doing so you must also let the bad parts fade away because if not it will eat at you and consume you. If only for a moment she wanted to be a nurse, presumably to help people, and in knowing you I am sure she did influence you in some way because you do, and have, helped others more than most these days. Be glad that your child will not know the same things you have known. You have my number, call anytime my friend.

I have started making dedicated pistons for tuning my AKs. They are a completely different design than a typical piston. The piston is the cheapest part so it only makes sense to modify it versus some other methods of tuning the gas Until you have shot a tuned AK you have no idea how over gassed they really are. My “best” AK right now is a 5.56 Saiga that have the full package. It took the place of the DDI I recently sold. I had a prototype adjustable gas piston and while it worked I worried about durability. I have a few more ideas I need to try.
-
Sometimes the truth hurts. I spent the better part of my adult life carrying ARs for work. I would, without a doubt, grab an AK before an AR when lives are on the line. I will say I never really had any real problems with ARs but after watching how Afghans clean their AKs I realized cleanliness and lubrication are not required for an AK to work. If you told an Afghan to clean an AR it would probably malfunction the first shot, not so with an AK.
-
They are known for having issues. But the good part is those issues come on pretty early. And to put your mind at ease Century Arms has always taken care of my problems without hesitation. Does the trigger have a "C" on it? If so those are some of the best "factory" AK triggers on the market. They have a very nice two stage feel to them. They are my go to trigger for all my guns. I would suggest taking pictures of the tail of the carrier, the bolt lugs on the bolt as well as the locking lugs on the front trunion. Then snap the same pictures every cleaning so you can compare to see any problems before they become a bigger problem. It will also help you if you have to send it back for repair. Now you need to get rounds down range to learn the best fighting rifle on the planet.

Anyone got team viewer? Able to RAS in?

What brand of computer? If it is a Dell you can easily restore it back to factory fresh. They have a ghosted copy of the original install that you can go back to on Dells.

Have you shot it? I have seen some very bad looking barrels that actually shoot well. Also, there is a very good chance the headspace is not correct.

You have no idea the punishment I have coming to me. I will expound once the case has been adjudicated. I swear I am a crap magnet or maybe I just refuse to lay down and let people walk all over me anymore. I will say that I utter these words daily, “I hate people!”. Seems lying, stealing and dishonestly is a lot more common today. I try to be as honest as humanly possible and it drives me insane that others have no desire to do the same. This year liars and thieves have cost me over $10K. I wish it were a crime to lie, the world would be a much better place. Or at least justification to whip someone’s ass. I doubt I could whip anyone’s ass but I can wield my crutches pretty well. -

Kind of reminds me of this. I might have to buy like 5 and get a few friends together to do a driveway gate opening ceremony.
