  1. Had a guy who bought a DPMS Oracle from Walmart for under $600. Then a few months later he decided to sell it and I asked him how much. He said $800 and I asked why so much. His response was that $800 was a deal because he put over $300 worth of ammunition through the gun so, according to him, it is worth $900 but he is giving someone a deal at $800. I have actually had people tell me that shooting a brand new gun increases its value because it costs both time and money to break it in.
  2. Yeah, that would be really cool. Personally I would rather have a 357 combination setup but no doubt about it, the 327 and 32 H&R are cool calibers.
  3. So I was surfing the web the other day an seen where someone else had made a rear sight for their AK. Seemed easy enough so I gave it a try. I traded an AK FCG for a Saiga top cover which is a little thicker. The top cover on my Draco has ZERO movement so I knew if I could figure out how to attach it I knew it would work. This increased the sight radius from 10" to 17.5" which is more than a standard AR carbine. It took me a few prototypes but I finally figured it out. Then once I had the holes for the sight worked out I dimpled the right ear so I could actually zero the rear sight and have the adjustments stay. And here is a mock up. And one I was sure everything was good I drilled more holes in the sight and added some plates for the screws. And even though I do not have pictures I disassembled the sight and then heated the wings and plates to red hot and dunked them in used oil to give it a nice dark blued/black finish. After that I drilled the top cover and installed it after I made sure everything was lined up. And here is what it looks like. And once I am 100% positive everything is good I will have it permanently welded to the top cover. And if anyone is interested I can tell you what parts you need. You can build this exact same setup for under $30 using a brand new sight. I was able to trade for my parts and everything works great thanks so Smith who supplied the top covers for me. Edited to add instructions: If you plan on welding you use steel but you could also use aluminum to so the same. In addition to the tools and supplies below I also used: A hammer A flat tip screw driver A few punches A marker A vice A file I also used a compressor, angle grinder and bench grinder but this can be done using all hand tools. Here is the 3/4" mild steel square tubing. I bought it at Home Depot but should be at most home improvement stores. Crown Bolt 3/4 in. x 36 in. Plain Steel Square Tube with 1/16 in. Thick-40320 - The Home Depot It is 3/4" square and 1/16" thick. As far as the actual sight I have found the cheap knockoff I got worked great. So any A2 style sight will work but verify the hole diameters before drilling the holes in the square tube. Here is an example of the rear sight I used. Brand New Tactical Detachable Carry Handle with Dual Aperture A2 Sight Black | eBay And if you want even simpler you can use an A1 style rear sight. I needed a way to attach the sight to the top cover so I used this. Crown Bolt 1/2 in. 36 in. Plain Steel Flat Bar with 1/8 in. Thick-43970 - The Home Depot Those are the steel pad that are drilled and tapped for the screws to come through the top cover and thread into to hold the sight in place. To drill and tap all the holes I used this. DEWALT # 36 Drill and 6 in. x 32 NC Tap Set-DWA1400 - The Home Depot And here are the screws I used. The Hillman Group #6-32 x 1/2 in. Slotted Round-Head Machine Screws (30-Pack)-944 - The Home Depot I did have to thin the head a little to clear the bolt carrier. Once I verified the size of the sight shaft I then drill the holes in the square tubing for the shaft. First I marked, with a punch, the centerline of the holes which is ~.250" above the bottom of the tube when measured from the outside. The first hole is .140" in diameter and should go through both sides. Then through one side I drill another hole that is .215" in diameter. The large hole is for the screw side of the sight and NOT the zero drum side. Once I had the holes drilled I took the sight shaft and put it through the housing like I was going to assemble it. I used the zero drum, with the ball bearing and spring, detent to mark the path of the detent by spinning it around a few times. This left a visible ring you can use for marking the detent holes. Then I split the path up with eight marks for where I wanted the detents and used a punch to start the keep the drill bit from walking. I used a drill bit he same size as the ball detent and made sure I did NOT drill through the housing. I guess you could also use a smaller hole and drill completely through but I prefer my way. Next I cut off the parts we just drilled for the rest of the tube. You can leave as much or as little as you want on either end but realize the tapped blocks need room to hold the rear sight spring in place with a little room for movement. Then I cut out the metal between the two ears. Then I started contouring it for looks/performance. Next I installed the sight shaft then I slide the sight spring, a flat spring with a slight bow in it, under the sight centered it under the sight. I made the slight blocks from the 3/4" wife and 1/8" thick banding that I drilled and tapped for the 6-32 screws. These blocks serve two functions, to hold the sight spring in place so it cannot come out from under the rear sight when switching between short and long range aperatures. They are also used to bolt the sight itself to the top cover. Once the blocks were drilled I placed them back in the sight making sure the sight spring was not binding and marked where to drill the clearance hole in the sight housing. Then once I verified they were in the center I drilled out the clearance holes. For the clearance holes you can either use a larger drill bit, like I did, or you can run the drill bit in and out at angles to slowly open up the clearance hole. I put the sight back together again and then I centered the rear aperature. Once centered I lined up the rear sight aperature with the factory rear sight and finally the front sight. Once I was satisfied everything was lined up I had someone else mark the holes in the top cover. Then I used 6-32 screws to go up through the top cover, through the sight housing and finally into the blocks that were tapped 6-32. Then I screw it all together and check for fitment as well as function (I did have to reduce the height of the screw heads). Then once I was happy I disassembled everything the put some sort of finish on it before reassembling it one final time with blue Loctite. And if I am not clear enough please feel free to ask questions. It did take me three prototypes before I made the fourth, and final, version. And don't be afraid to cut the sight too long because you can always remove material but it is much harder to add. I cut one prototype too short, a second I reversed the left and right side holes in the housing and one I messed up the detent holes. But now I feel confident enough that I will be making these for a few other guns in the future.
  4. The UTG/Tapco rear sights are decent for what they cost. They will not be as good as a high end brand but they are functional.
  5. I spent several years chasing groups. It got to a point I was spending way more time prepping rather than shooting. I would also wait for certain kinds of weather to go shoot groups. The only thing I still do is deburring and uniforming the flash holes. It is the single thing that is worth the effort.
  6. I chucked it into a drill and used 1,000 grit sandpaper to reduce the size. Then polished it with 2,000 grit. Get an electronic scale. It is so much faster and can be just as accurate. The time saved will let you spend more time on other things.
  7. Be aware your velocities might not be as high when using 357 magnum brass for 38 special loads. More case capacity generally reduces the pressures and it is the pressure that determines velocity.
  8. The bullet got stuck because it was too small allowing gasses to pass by the bullet rather than push it.
  9. Westboro Baptist church members live for being attacked. That is how they make their money. They hope their rights are violated so they can sue. Most of the active members are actually lawyers or studying to be one. We all have our ways of making money and surviving but their way is absolutely disgusting. Anger should not be the emotion anyone who is burying a loved one should feel at their funeral and at some point someone is going to loose it and try to kill them. And although I do not condone anyone being killed for exercising their rights if it happens I will not be too upset about it. And maybe after they see their members are loosing their lives they will find an ambulance or two to chase rather than use their right to free speech to desecrate our heroes.   And even though the Westboro members have the right to free speech they choose to use it to disrespect those that have actually fought so they have that right and that is what bothers me more than anything else. They do not realize that is was those Marines, and sailor, that ensures they have that right to protect at the funerals of the fallen.
  10. Be careful shooting .380 or 9mm bullets out of a 38/357. I once stuck a .355" bullet in a .357" bore. Cost me the price of my fathers gun when I failed to notice and ringed the barrel. Luckily it did not blow up but it definitely ruined the barrel. I could not find a replacement barrel so I just bought the gun and made a 45LC out of it. It was a Italian copy of a Colt SAA and all I could find in the way of replacement parts was a 45 caliber cylinder and barrel.   The bulge often happens from the cases being sized down farther than need be. Doesn't hurt anything to bulge the case with a bullet as long as the bullet is the correct size.
  11. Load it by weight and NEVER start out at the max recipe. I normally take the minimum and maximum and average them and use that as the starting load.
  12. Physically it is fine but be aware pressures climb a lot faster in the smaller case. I would start out at the minimum PUBLISHED load and work up until it is reliable.
  13. I have been an AR guy for a very long time but now I am running AKs. MOLLE magazine pouches are easy to find for an AR but it is difficult for an AK. It doesn't need to be MOLLE either. I've ran a Rhodesian in the last and it wasn't bad but I would prefer to use the same setup for my AK as I did with my AR. So what is everyone using? This is for a 7.62 AK. I need to carry 3-4 AK magazines. Thanks
  14. And to think these Marines have likely made it safely through a few deployments only to be killed at home.
  15. You could also say you fought hard, as a minority couple, to "adopt" all the little ones. But they will likely condemn you for keeping your "babies" locked away in a safe. I guess NFA is about as close to adoption as one could get.
  16. Wait until the gun control advocates cry that the gun buster sign saved lives.
  17. This is why I ALWAYS have a long gun with me and several handguns. Not a chance in hell I would stand by an allow people to die, especially service members. Honestly I am surprised it is not happening more often. Well maybe it is but it is being reported as something other than a terrorist attack. I am REALLY surprised we have not seen an IED yet but I bet they will be used here at some point. ISIS is going to take credit for ANY attack they can to give themselves legitimacy as the great infidel fighter. And as more are martyred it will only encourage others to do the same. Realize we are fighting people who are willing to die for their religion. We have not seen the last of these attacks. I hope I am wrong but I suspect along with the Muslims we are going to see groups like the Black Panthers, as well as other hate groups, become more brazen and randomly attacking innocents as well. As far as radicalized Muslims goes it isn't just those but the problem is also the vast majority of other moderate Muslims not speaking out against or condemning the actions of the radicals. Do not believe for a second that they would not side with fellow Muslims if they knew there would not be any ramifications for doing so. Just because they are "good" Muslims does not mean they like us or that they would not side with fellow Muslims. It just means they are tolerating us until they have the strength of their fellow Muslims. We have an estimated 2.77 million Muslims in this country. If only 10% have radical views that is still 277,000. That is a SIGNIFICANT number of people who want infidels dead. And even if only 1% of the radicalized Muslims decided to act that is still 2,770 radicals wanting non believers dead. That is 55 per state and if we divide that between our three major cities that is ~18 attackers. Imagine the carnage 18 well armed terrorists could cause in Knoxville. And that is a very, very conservative estimate of radicalized Muslims in America.
  18. I have been burned more using money orders than using PayPal. Plenty of times I have sent money orders and the seller said they never received it. And because you have to wait and pay to get an investigation going it is often cheaper just to send it again with a signature required. And I like to receive PayPal money versus money orders. I will NEVER accept a personal check again for anything, don't care if it is a $1 item because once I deposit the check it becomes my problem if it bounces and am done dealing with that headache.
  19. And as far as the barrel drooping it is probably from the barrel getting hot and then as the gas exerts force on the piston it applies an equal amount of force to the gas block bending the barrel down. Not really sure how one could fix that flaw without going to a heavier barrel like what is used in an RPK or similar. perhaps cooling fines before and after the gas block might help as well.   I have personally seen several full auto AKs get more than that without issue. Heck I have sent more full auto rounds down range using an AK than this one did but I will say mine were not mag dump after mag dump either.   And yeah, if the barrel moved inside the trunion then there is a SERIOUS issue unrelated to the amount of rounds fired. Surprised it didn't have a case rupture from the headspace being so loose.
  20. I have been using PayPal since 1999 and I have never had an issue that did not get resolved in my favor, even with gun related items. PayPal and Ebay are one in the same now so all you have to do is look at what is being sold on Ebay to see what PayPal will allow it to be used to buy. You can buy "assault weapon" parts, magazines and all kinds of other things guns related. Last year Ebay, and PayPay, loosened restrictions on gun related parts.   As far as funding there are a couple of ways to do it as others have said. Personally I have a separate bank account liked to PayPal and I keep enough in it to cover purchases. This limits how much someone could steal if they did get into your PayPal account. But even if someone did PayPal would reimburse you if it was a fraudulent transaction.   The only thing I do not like to use PayPal for is getting paid for big purchases because the fees are so high. If you sell a big ticket item on Ebay they take 10% then PayPal takes their 3% plus some other small fees. But for smaller items it is worth it for the convenience.
  21.   Yep, I will never speak a word of it but there is a reason why I no longer beg you for lead. I can get as much lead as often as I like now. Took me close to a year of handing out $10 bills even if there wasn't any lead in their buckets for them to realize I was serious. Funny part is after I handed out money for nearly empty buckets of lead I guess they had a change of heart because now it costs me nothing to stop in a grab a bucket or two. They also know I am actually using it and not just selling it like the guy who got two 55 gallon drums of scrap lead from them a week or so before I started getting lead from them. At this point I have more than enough lead to last me years.
  22. Plenty of diabetics get arrested for DUI because of this. Erratic behavior and driving along with the odor that most people would confuse for alcohol on the breath makes it easy to happen. We had one guy who was brought in for public intoxication. He was acting very erratic, confused and non compliant. Officers, being officers, assumed he was just being an angry drunk and whipped his ass then put him in a cell to "sleep it off". When I came on I was told about it so I checked on him but could not wake him up. We had medical respond and they didn't want to do anything because the previous supervisor told medical he was just an angry drunk. I begged them to take his blood sugar and when they got the results they went into high gear. An ambulance was called and the nurses were very worried. Had I not decided to check and had I not known about the diabetic fruity odor that guy would have probably died. Luckily they were able to get him stabilized and he spent a week in the hospital. If I remember correctly his sugar was north of 800 and that was after he laid on the floor for 4-5 hours. Since then anytime I encountered someone drunk I would at least question them before assuming.
  23. She, Oma Sourkraut, HATES exercise which is not bad because the vast majority of exercises I cannot do. And when she does do a lot her blood sugar jumps ~40 points and she starts feeling like crap. But we do try to get out and do SOMETHING at least twice a week. Normally we go to the stables where she boards her horse and end up walking a mile or two but the longer we walk or the hotter it is the higher her sugar gets. She has checked her sugar and it be ~120 and, without eating anything, have it climb to 180+ from the stress her body is under from heat, stress or exercise. I am not saying for others to not exercise but for her we have found other ways to keep her numbers regulated without relying on exercise.     We, both of us, try to stay under 8 carbs per meal but most times it is closer to 10 by the time we add a few things we really like. Any more than that and her blood sugar is climbing up there, even if it is good carbs. She wakes up with a reading of ~130-140, by lunch it is ~110, after lunch ~120 and then dinner is generally a bit lower. We have a good long record of her numbers and we try different foods, a serving size, to see if she can tolerate them.   We eat a lot of salads with a meat protein, either lean red meat or chicken, 72 grams of Romaine lettuce and a serving size of protein then a serving size of salad dressing with vinegar added to extend the dressing. I add mushrooms and she adds cucumbers along with some nuts. And when we first started out we would look at the portion and think to ourselves that is not enough but eventually we realized it was plenty and that it was our eyes telling us it should be more, not our stomachs. Our treat that we normally do once a week is a local Chinese buffet. Yes, we do eat more than we should there but we are ALWAYS aware of WHAT it is we are eating. For snacks we do cheese sticks, nuts, boiled eggs, those muffins and home made beef jerky. But like everything else it must be a serving size.   Not following the recommended serving sizes is the biggest reason why people are having the problems we hear about and gain so much weight. Americans, me included, no longer eat until full. That is because food tastes so good we would often continue to eat until the food on our plate was gone even though we were already full. And Americans no longer work, physically, for the food they eat. If every American would walk for 20-30 minutes before they ate most Americans would not be overweight.   She LOVES peas but those things really, really spike her blood sugar. Anything that is pickled seems to not affect her as much as a non pickled version. I have also figured out a recipe for chocolate/bacon muffins that is carb neutral. Even before we started adding fiber each regular sized muffin was only a carb, and good carbs at that. She would check her blood sugar then eat three and check again an hour or two later with zero increase in her numbers so I know they are not spiking her sugar. They are not as sweet enough for most people to eat them but for us they are a great little dessert.   Oh, a GREAT little snack that is also pretty decent for you is the Vienna Sausages for babies. They look, feel and taste identical to the grown up versions but the child version is a lot better for you but remember only eat a serving size. She has even tried eating baby food to see if she can have some of the things she likes but so far it seems baby food, other than the sausages, is out. Something else she has started using is one of those vaporizers they sell for smokers but she doesn't use any nicotine. They make liquids that taste identical to most sweets and has no affect on her sugar levels. She can get her fix for sweets now and it has helped her immensely in getting through the day.   Her blood sugar really spikes from her waking up. We have tested her blood sugar throughout the night trying to figure out why it is so high. At bed it would be ~110, at midnight 100-110, at 2am it is 90-100 and at 4 am it is 80-90. Then, because her body is "turning on" it begins to climb again at about 4am and quits at about 9am when it is 130-140. Even if she stays awake from 4 am on her numbers start climbing even though she is not eating anything. Then we spend the day fighting her morning numbers. If we could figure out a way to prevent the morning sugar from being so high I think we can keep the rest of her numbers well into the normal range. We have tried peanut butter with crackers at night, peanut butter only as well as plenty of other foods trying to keep her numbers up throughout the night so her body doesn't feel it needs to turn on as she wakes up. But what it does is add the increases from eating at night to her morning numbers. If she eats something the night before that should increase her blood sugar then her morning numbers will be significantly higher.   In the beginning I kept logs of everything she ate and I recommend that for any new diabetic or anyone dieting because it helps you see exactly what you are eating. I weighed the food and kept a log of how many carbs, calories and fiber each meal had. I have menus from the first 2-3 months and I continue to refer to them when I cook. And because I kept so many detailed records I was able to figure out what works for her and what doesn't. It also showed me where her threshold was for her numbers to increase. I realize it all depends on the type of carb but 8 grams is about the limit for her blood sugar to remain even, not raise or lower, after a meal. It is not just about what you have eaten in the last 2-3 hours. We can see a significant increase in her overall numbers in the days following a day of high numbers.   I can count on one hand the times she ate something she isn't supposed to eat. And by eat I mean a BITE and not the who thing. One of the things she REALLY liked was sushi rolls but that is now a thing of the past, at least for now.   She is still loosing weight everyday and I am so proud of her. She is doing so much better than I ever could and even though she has diabetes now she is MUCH healthier than she was 6-8 months ago. And as a side benefit I am also a lot healthier because of it. I try not to eat things she cannot eat, at least not in front of her, but because we are often tied at the hip most times I cannot.
  24. Probably not but the loose trigger could be from a broken or severely bent spring.
  25. The last 4-5 mass shootings involved Glocks. I say we outlaw them.
