  1. I would add a few things if you plan on heading to the woods. A cooking pot of some sort. A storage container for liquids A portable solar charger Soap to wash with Salt Hatchet for when you run out of gas
  2. What about buying an airsoft springer replica? You can find them for the cost of the aluminum to make a slug. I use the actual gun to make the holster. I seal the gun in a vacuum bag then I mold the leather to the gun using the same vacuum sealer.
  3. Is it possible to replace the backer with more leather? Removing material from the sight isn't that big of a deal. If you are ever in my area I can help you or you can use my tools to do it yourself.
  4. It would require a lot of rounds before the barrel becomes heated to s point it becomes plasticized and ruptures. The gas tube generally fails before the barrel. Btw, the OD of this barrel is the same as a typical AK47. So if an AK can make it several hundred rounds on full auto I do not believe semi auto firing will cause the plasticization needed for the barrel to fail. As far as wear this barrel will not wear any faster than a thicker barrel. The 300 Blackout does not have pressures that are higher than 7.62x39, generally the 300 Blackout has lower pressures.
  5. And good quality hearing protection can actually enhance your hearing as well.
  6. You can pass on your NFA items and it is free. You do not need to have a trust either. NFA items registered to an individual can be legally transferred but he hier must pass a background. With a trust there is no background, at least not yet, so all you have to have is seccessive trustee listed in the trust.
  7. I made some home made water rockets by filling 2 liter bottles 1/2 way up with water then pressurizing to 125+ psi before launching. Trust me when I say those can be lethal at the end of their trajectory. Only real problem is they will sometimes do a 180 and come right back at you making all onlookers scurry like cockroaches when the lights are turned on.
  8.   Funny how most of us survived without safety helmets while riding (and doing crazy stuff) our bikes. Not to mention those really dangerous car windows that rolled ALL the way down. Or if you did get hurt you got treated with antiseptics that contained trace amounts of mercury.   Something else I did during my younger years was to tear down 22's and up the powder charge. Can't tell you how many times I went too high and ended up cleaning all the brass bits out of the gun. Heck even in my adulthood I did some pretty stupid things in my quest for knowledge. I can tell you with great certainty that Home Depot nail setting blanks will NOT launch 55 grain pills out of a 22, got the scar to prove that doesn't work. Or at least the #4 blanks do not work, maybe I need to try the #2 or #3 to be 100% certain.
  9. Yeah, and AK with JUST a buffer tube is not considered an SBR. Never would have thought that in a million years but I have the letter to prove it.
  10. Really cool idea but it begs the question it is not NFA because it is not permanently attached. But an adjustable butt stock is not "permanently" attached either. Can I take a "pistol" and remove the part of the stock that locks into the buffer tube and be legal? After all it would just fall away from the gun like this thing.   Now don't get me wrong, I really like this idea as it is yet another way to get around the ridiculous laws regarding NFA items.   http://www.recoilweb.com/usa-1shot-non-nfa-butt-stock-for-your-handgun-69131.html
  11. Just kidding, I love my iPhone and will probably be with me forever. I tried getting used to Macs but that was 20+ years ago. Maybe things are a whole lot different now.
  12. Are you saying I am simple? :)
  13.   Before the TV show, and before all of this, he was a well known AK guy. He was, at one point, the person you sent your AK to in order to have it built and run properly, especially Saigas. And he also made guns mainstream like no other in history. It is sad that he did what he did and tarnished the gun community that supported him for so long. Hopefully he gets all he deserves after he gets a fair trial.
  14. Yeah, that should have more media coverage than the usual stories we have been seeing as of late.
  15. Louisiana has some of the harshest penalties in all of the nation. People get life sentences for stuff that gets you probation in other states. I can honestly say if I were a criminal I would make a VERY wife girth around Louisiana.   And because we are upset that taxes pay for the incarceration of criminal why don't we all petition our legislators, or maybe even Obama, to pardon all of them. If we released every inmate today and did not have to pay a single red cent again towards their incarceration our taxes would not be reduced at all, any surplus would just be used for some other government program. Personally I would rather pay to keep all the violent criminals locked up and away from my family and friends.   Now for non violent criminals I think they should have MUCH lighter sentence and there should not be any criminal charges for anything related to personal use or sale of drugs. I do not feel anyone should be jailed for making the choice to consume something, anything. The government should not be able to decide for me whether I cannot drink antifreeze, smoke crack or shoot up meth so long as it does not affect anyone else. BTW, I do not do any of those things but I support a person's right to choose to do it without the government's interference or permission. Lives get torn apart every day because of the "war on drugs" and the amount spent just to try to curb its use has been a waste, probably the biggest waste our government has been involved with which says a lot. Just like the prohibition on alcohol did nothing but create more criminals that is exactly what the prohibition of drugs, and subsequent war on drugs, has done but now we have criminals are on both sides of the issue.   It costs the tax payer $51,000,000,000 annually to fight drugs and $56,000,000,000 to house inmates. We can eliminate nearly the same amount we spend on housing inmates just by accepting, and eliminating, the failed "war on drugs".   There were 1.5 million people arrested in 2013 in the U.S. on nonviolent drug charges.   Number of people arrested for a violation of a marijuana law in 2013 was 693,482 and the costs alone for that are in excess of $20,804,460,000 to housing them. Just legalizing MJ would reduce our taxpayer burden by some $20 Billion alone.   Of those charged with marijuana law violations those who were arrested for possession only  amounted to 609,423 (88 percent). Just legalizing possession ONLY would amount of a savings of over $18,270,000,000 ($18 Billion) if they were not arrested.   Number of Americans incarcerated in 2013 in federal, state and local prisons and jails: 2,220,300 or 1 in every 110 adults so it is just a matter of time before any one of us could find ourselves being one of those 110 arrested for breaking a law that some lawmaker made that does not apply to them. We are in a place in history that no one has ever been. We have the highest incarceration rates of any nation in the world and yet our lawmakers continue to pass laws to control us.   Eventually the only way to live free is to risk your freedom by becoming a criminal.
  16. The best video of his. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s6AM47IDxk
  17. I had a New Frontier Armory that I bought new with the stock and FCG in place. It was my original lightweight build but it cracked at the buffer tube. I sent it back and got one of their billet lowers instead.   The Mag Tactical magnesium lowers are coming down in price. It is a great compromise between aluminum and poly, not as light as poly but not as strong as aluminum. I have seen their stripped lowers for ~$125 out the door locally and their stripped uppers for $99.   For an upper I would find an upper without the forward assist and you could probably mill off the shell deflector as well.
  18. I got to thinking today that this might be to keep guns from being passed down or sold after a senior dies. Think about it there are a lot of seniors that grew up with, and kept their, guns so if they passed away those firearms could be passed down or sold. But if a senior got some official looking letter saying to sell or turn in your firearms I would think a lot of seniors would do the easy thing and just turn them in to police. And then you know the firearms would be destroyed in most cases.   Maybe in a generation or two they will get to see a surprising story about how a senior was in possession of a gun and act like the recent stories about the seniors with WWII tanks. I hope that isn't the case but it sure looks that way. The schools are liberal brain washing centers and once the next generation, that has been told guns are evil, starts ruling the country guns will be a thing of the past. We, literally, are probably the last generation that will be able to own a gun anonymously without breaking the law.
  19. The barrel OD, at its thinnest, is the same as most AK barrels. So I do not see a problem at least not without a lot of rounds being fired and we have discussed that. The 7.62x39 will likely have more pressures than most 300 Blackouts.
  20. Because this is a THIN 30 caliber barrel I was hoping the cooling find would reduce the heat in the rest of the barrel. Who knows.
  21. Yeah, I have had most of those items in my car at some point I am sure.
  22. Looking good. Is that the one you showed me at my house ~3 years ago?
  23. When I was building mine I was going to have a channel milled down the middle of the rail on top of the receiver as well as any other rails.   The first "railed" AR was done exactly like that 30+ years ago by JD Jones. BTW, he is the one who made the 300 Whisper, now 300 Blackout, popular. JD could have been a success too if he didn't insist on royalty fees and refused to have the cartridge certified by SAAMI.
  24. I know exactly where he is going because that is where my son was for 6+ months. Even though it is not in Afghanistan or Iraq it is far from safe because it is actually 12 miles from Somalia. My son was able to leave the wire a couple of times to help the locals but that was no longer possible after the IED outside the main gate. From talking to my son they have Subway and a few other small shops like coffee shops. Internet is ok but can be hit and miss. And luckily it is east Africa away from the annual Ebola outbreak on the western part of the continent. Your brother will be living in the two man container box sleeping quarters.
