Which is the stronger and more durable pistol ?
Dolomite_supafly replied to tercel89's topic in Handguns
All steel beats partial steel. What about buying a RIA in 9mm? or maybe get a 22 conversion for the 1911. -
Small claims court assistance needed
Dolomite_supafly replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Not sure if it is possible but maybe you can put a lien on the work vehicle for the amount you paid. If there is one resin I hate in the whole system it is the court clerk they refuse to answer any questions, like the form you need, and act like they are gods. I can honestly say that the court clerk for our county is the biggest idiot I have ever met which is saying a lot. She refused to let me file s criminal complaint when we were threatened to be killed. She said I needed to file a civil case for slander when my brother was threatening to kill us. Then when I was explaining to her that some idiot posted our address, phone number and a time to come rape my wife she laughed about it. She thought my wife being raped was a funny joke and when I asked why she was laughing she made some BS excuse them refused to even talk to me and said I needed to hire an attorney. -
On the topic of bottled water..
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite`s Breezy's topic in General Chat
Just updating this. I know it has been 3+ years but wanted to give a long term update. The Berkey is still going strong. We have to clean the filters every ~3 months. It is still filtering just fine. It has been the single biggest money saver in our house because we would drink three cases of water a week. So the $259 Berkey has saved us close to $2,000 since we bought it. -
You gonna be selling those T-shirts?

I just made a call.

Has anyone figured it out yet? Hackers? Or something more sinister. Think about it, most Americans use cell phones so if you take that away you take away their ability to call for help. I read that one police department was crippled by this because most communications, even within the department, went through cell phone systems. Almost like some sort of DDOS attack along with an attack on the phone system. They are two different systems so for both to be affected it must be some sort of catastrophic screw up or a dedicated attack on both systems. I think the data side was hit with a DDOS attack because the network is still working, just super slow. Took a minute for a small "test" text to go through. The phone side of it has been out for me since 3:15 and has not returned. The data side has worked but very slow.

It is on at 10pm on WKOP in Knoxville. Channel 15 on Dishnetwork. The episode title is "Gunned Down" for anyone wanting to search for it. It is not new but dated 2015.

All I want for all Americans is for everyone to be treated fairly. Right now that is just not the case and that is because no one is willing to admit that all parties involved have some culpability in where we are as a country. Having anyone openly calling for the killing of others should be prosecuted the same as anyone else and without regard to skin color. But what we have is a group of racists who claim they cannot be racists despite the fact they are distinguishing who should be harmed solely on the skin color. If these statements were made by anyone other than these racists there would be a national outcry for justice but because they are black they are allowed to make these threats under some sort of misguided sense of retribution. And there will be some who will act upon these inciteful words but only the shooter will be held accountable, not those urging the killing of innocents. A racist makes decisions, good OR bad, based on race alone and I have yet to see anything from Farrakhan or any of the race baiters to make me think they are not racists. But is even worse that our administration will not treat everyone fairly. They too will use race as the key factor in determining their reaction.

BTW, he will be getting more and more air time over the next couple of months. He is going to be attending the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March with a message, "justice or else". He has said that since blacks are being killed by whites then the blacks need to kill whites. He said if they are going to die anyway might as well take some whites with them. For anyone wanting to attend, the 20th anniversary is being held in Washington DC on the 10th of October. Most of the race baiters should be in attendance.

Suppressor rattling
Dolomite_supafly replied to swim615's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Not really. Price a pound of iconel then realize it probably gets sold back as chips for recycling at 10% of the sale price. The ones that are probably marked up the most are the aluminum ones because materials are so cheap and aluminum is relatively easy to machine. If China could make and import silencers most would not be over $50. Making a decent silencer is not hard nor expensive but where it gets expensive is when you are the lightest or quietest and that is why state of the art silencers, or anything, generally costs a lot. -

I would look really hard for any shiny areas in the silencer. If you can take it apart, inspect it and remove all the loose debris. My wife qualified for her HCP using Federal and her target looked like a shotgun blast. Not sure what was going on but it was like the bullet was coming apart midway down range and I have never seen that with a pistol before. If all else fails SilencrCo has the best reputation for CS. Seen people screw up and destroy their SilencerCo can. 100% the customer's fault and SilencerCo always replaces the silencer with a new one. I know one guy who destroyed 5-6 SilencerCo's cans, one at a time, and they replaced them as he broke them. -
You will be fine.

Favorite dealer for transfers in Knoxville-Clinton
Dolomite_supafly replied to jonnnyboy's topic in Handguns
I like Law Enforcement sales but any dealer should be able to handle the transfer. I will say that LE Sales is more home like than any other place I have ever been. His shop is actually the garage to his home so it is more like visiting a friend than getting a gun transferred. And because the transfer is going to be the same regardless of the dealer you choose so you might as well find the cheapest one to do the transfer and LE Sales is one of the cheapest I have found. A lot of pawn shops also do transfers and they tend to be even cheaper. They do not rely on transfers or gun sales to stay in business so they tend to be pretty cheap for transfers. -
I shoot M855 62g stuff out of my 12 twist. It is more accurate than my 9 or 7 twist barrels but you can see one side of the bullet hole isn't as sharp as the other side. All this means is the second they hit an organic target the bullets will tumble and hopefully fragment. My 12 twist shoots MOA using M855 while the others do not shoot as well. My SHTF AR has a 20" barrel so velocity is high enough that the bullets should fragment inside of 200 yards but even if they don't the bullet will still tumble causing damage. An 8 twist barrel will shoot EVERYTHING that will feed from a magazine. 9 twist will shoot everything up to about 77 grains but all barrels are slightly different so verify before shooting through a silencer. With a 7 twist you are limiting yourself to ~50 grain, or heavier, bullets. Yes, you can shoot lighter bullets but some will sling the jackets right off the bullet with the faster twists. And there really is no need to use a 7 twist unless you are shooting 80+ grain bullets but once you get to about 80 they rounds can no longer be fed from a magazine and must be loaded one at a time. 8 twist is the best compromise between them all. The best way to figure out what twist you need is figure out which bullet you are most likely to be shooting and use the slowest twist that will stabilize it. In this case a 12 twist will be the best with 55 grain bullets but because you might also be shooting some heavier stuff or at longer distances I would go with a 9 twist. A 9 twist will let you shoot the most common stuff as well as the heavier stuff without the bullet being too stable. And this will ensure the bullets will tumble when hitting an "organic pop up target". The wounding mechanism for FMJ bullets is tumbling and then fragmenting. First the bullet must tumble then, if the velocity is high enough, the bullet will fragment. Now if you have a twist that is too fast for the bullet then the bullet will not tumble, at least not inside the target, and in turn the bullet will not fragment. But if the twist is slow enough the bullet will first tumble inside the target and then the bullet will fragment providing the velocity is at least 2,500 fps. But it might require more or less velocity depending on the thickness of the jacket. Now even if the bullet is not going fast enough to fragment it should still tumble. If you shoot 55 grain bullets out of a 7 twist it is possible for the bullet to not tumble and pass through the target without doing a lot of damage like a 22 lr. This is why we are hearing all the reports of the 5.56 being ineffective against the thin middle eastern men. The way to fix that is to either go with a slower twist or a heavier bullet. And the problem is not with the caliber as long as you realize it is a short range cartridge. It worked great until the bean counters decided having a 7 twist would be better for shooting tracers. Then after that the government decided to try to make this short range cartridge into a long range cartridge which, as we have heard, did not do so well. If they really wanted to fix the problems with a 5.56 they would accept the fact it is a short range caliber and either use a much heavier bullet or a much slower twist. As it stands right now the military is using the worst of both worlds, a twist that is too fast and a bullet that is too light for the twist. In the end if I had to choose one twist for everything I might do it would be a 9 twist barrel. It is still slow enough that most bullets will readily tumble yet fast enough to stabilize most of the heavier bullets you might find. Here is a pretty good read on what is going on overseas with the M855 and the faster twist barrels. http://stevespages.com/pdf/5_56mm_military_info.pdf

As a person who has spent a lot of time around horses, and other livestock, I can assure you one thing you do not want is a straight pipe or dual exhaust on your donkey. And there are some serious reliability issues with them as well. Think of them as the Land Rover of the equine world, when they are working there is no better but when they decide they have had enough good luck getting them to move. Using or riding a donkey is like telling a person, who hates being told what to do, what to do. As long as you are nice about it and make it seem like they are in charge all is good but the second they realize you are trying to be in charge they are done doing you bidding.

Some pretty amazing stuff this thing can do. Not to mention it is electric so you could charge by day and move by night. http://www.swincar.fr/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdM5yCBy0jY

Had a pretty good Memorial Day weekend

This is the kid I was showing all the tactical stuff to. He was asking about "real" guns so after getting his mother's permission I showed it to him, showed him how to disassemble it and we got this picture while we were at it. He is a great kid and before long he will know the ins and out of most weapons. -

Not going to happen. I begged, pleaded and pulled every pity story I could to get my SBR approved with my silencer but they said they cannot. -
I was wearing a bright neon green/yellow shirt yesterday and I thought to myself that I would be an organic pop up target if anything kicked off. Definitely an uneasy feeling wearing a "HERE I AM!" shirt for any would be bad guy to easy see and track me. Almost as bad as when I was deployed once. We were told we MUST leave our sleeves down because bare arms were not camouflaged enough. No big deal and I completely understand why until they made us wear bright orange, with reflective tape, safety vests so we could be seen by the drivers of cow carts or the Skodas.

Pm me your address. I will send you a trigger kit for you to install. Under an inch at 100 yards is very good for an AR, depending on the ammunition used. The weak link in AR accuracy is ammunition followed by the miserable milspec trigger.
-
Also, I would go 20" and get that extra velocity. You could also use a standard profile rather than a bull. With a 20" bill the gun gets really heavy. My 20" gun has a pencil thin barrel, .6" under the handguard and .55" in front of the gas block. It is as accurate as most other ARs I have shot. And worse case scenario you can get someone to thin the barrel to reduce weight.

If you are in the knoxville area I can show you how to assemble an upper.

If it is for a 22, or any other caliber, I would take a very hard look at the Nikon P-22. It has 1/2 MOA adjustments which makes adjustments on the fly quicker especially a 22 at long distance. You can find them for 200 regularly and I have seen them on sale for $140. Another feature is you can have custom BDC turrets made. They also have a BDC program that is available online or as an app.
