  1. The most reliable magazines for the 300 is Lancer. Magpul are the worst because they have side ribs as well as the front rib. They are probably the best for 5.56 but Pmags are the worst for 300 Blackout.   I really wish a magazine maker would make a 300 Blackout magazine like AK magazines without any internal ribs. I loaded some LONG 300 Blackout rounds into a 5.56 AK magazine and they worker PERFECTLY. I have contacted all the magazine makers I know of and so far none have realized the potential for this. If I knew someone in the biz I would probably figure out a way to fund it.
  2. How about WE, as in staff, use the feedback system we have. If a member decides to be a turd behind the scenes leave him a negative feedback. With everyone having positives a negative would really stand out. We already have it in place and other members can see the feedback unlike our warning point system.   Or if you want you can turn me loose on them. I don't care what they do to me as I already have experience in dealing with internet turds and have all the time in the world to hold them accountable.
  3. And whatever you do NEVER try to polish it up or remove any patina. The only thing that should touch something like this is a cotton rag soaked in oil. Seen plenty of guns ruined by someone trying to make it prettier.
  4. Don't warn them. Vote out any incumbent in office from the top to the bottom, that is the ONLY way to fix this country. Even if it means voting for a democrat. An honest democrat that puts the country first is better than any corrupt republican. All politicians go to Washington to fix things but by the time their first term is over they have become corrupt. Vote in a fresh face then vote them out and replace them the next election cycle. Eventually they will get the idea that they cannot stay in Washington forever and get rich. But if that started happening they would change the laws so they could remain in office longer.   Seriously, how corrupt is our system when a person spends $55 million dollars to get into a seat that pays a little over $100K? We had a representative do exactly that. It would take over 200 years for him to break even using his salary but we all know he paid $55 million to be able to become much, much richer because of all the corruption. I cannot seem to find it but it was a representative from the Midwest, like Minnesota or Iowa or Illinois or somewhere in that area. He, and his "donators", paid out $55 million dollars to secure the seat.   That is also why you cannot find anyone in Washington to hold anyone else accountable. They all have their hands in the cookie jar.   Not that hard to get rich when you know what is about to happen or you stack the laws in your favor.
  5. He, Mike, really is a great guy.
  6. This scares me. We are in a very scary place right now as a nation and I am afraid our children or grand children will see the U.S. in the same state as Syria. The reason is the vast majority of countries on Earth do not like us. Even long time allies are wondering what is going on with us. And all of this weakening is not going unoticed by the other superpowers in the world, two of which are working closely together to achieve goals counter to ours and in the same region. Makes you wonder when it will happen. We are seeing Chinese and Russian submarines within miles of our coasts. They are, no doubt, working together. I have spoke to soldiers who killed Chinese nationals imbedded with the Taliban in Afghanistan. They were presumed to be "advisors" just like those we used in Vietnam. The Chinese are actively engaged in state sanctioned industrial espionage against the U.S and hold over 7% of the U.S. GDP as debt. We are where we are because of 100+ years of our meddling in other country's affairs. Many of those countries were never a threat to the U.S but we still invaded to force them to live like we do, or else. And because of our leader's policies we have more enemies today than any other time in our history. But what is worse than that is even those we once thought were allies are remaining silent on all of this. No one in Europe is prepared to even condemn the Russians who supply the vast majority of energy to the European Union. Everyday I get more and more scared. Our nation is so vulnerable right now. We, as a nation, are living paycheck to paycheck with our credit maxed out. Our military is the smallest it has been in a very long time. One of our biggest debt holders is working with our biggest threat. Our infrastructure is being held together with duct tape and bailing wire. We have citizens calling for the killing of other citizens for no other reason than being different with our government seemingly approving. Those that work are going broke to support those that don't. And the only thing that keeps this country civil, LE, is being ridiculed and killed for doing their best. Imagine a time when THEY decide enough is enough and either walk off the job. Without LE our nation would fall into turmoil that would make the civil war look like child's play. And all the while people are more concerned about some guy taking a bunch of dope and almost dying at a brothel than the threats to the country from here as well as from across the globe. If you want to take down a country you can't hope to defeat militarily you soften the country up from within. Turns its citizens against each other but even more importantly you turn the citizens against their government. It is all I can do to try to be prepared for what seems inevitable now. I am no where near prepared enough.
  7. I would not want our classifieds hidden from non benefactors. I bet a lot of sales come from non benefactors so hiding the classifieds would only hurt our benefactors.
  8. I wonder if having a minimum post count would help? Don't make it a crazy number but requiring anyone who wants to sell something to have a minimum of 5 or 10 posts would cut down on those who register to dispute them.   Another option could be that staff approves all posts by those who do not have 10 posts.   I think there is a large segment of the population who does not believe it is stealing if it is done on the internet. I have had people try to dispute stuff with me even though I had a no questions asked money back guarantee. But I believe it was never about getting the refund and all about being able to keep what I sold them without paying for it. And if I could have convinced my local LE to I would have prosecuted every single one of them.   I would rather see a hall of shame with all the classic threads where people have lost their minds.
  9. I am so glad you were able to located and actually get your hands on an heirloom gun. I have got the first gun I ever took game with. It is a single shot 22 falling block my father had when he was a child. I also have a 410 shotgun that hung in my grandfather's barn and my wife uses it to shoot skeet.   My father had a bunch of family heirlooms that had been in the family for a very, very long time. In a moment when he was upset he gathered then all up and took them to a local gunsmith, not to repair or store them but to get rid of them. I was fortunate because one of the workers called me and told me. But by the time I got there the only thing left was this old beat up single shot. I would have loved to have had the Winchester pump 22 my grandmother used to put food on the table but it was gone within seconds. It was promised to me, then my father promised it to our son who really liked it. Then my father got pissed and gave them all away just to spite us. Even though about a 1/4 of them were guns given to me by relatives he would not let me have them saying I would get them eventually. I figured I would just let things ride for the time being because I never would have thought he would give away all those guns.   My father was dealing with my drug using brother and got scared. He decided to get rid of everything which I do not blame him but what I do blame him for is he did this is after I had offered to store everything at my house. He probably blamed me for my brother getting arrested for trying to kill my family and I. So out of spite he took all those heirloom guns and told the shop to get rid of them. Outside of the heirloom value there was probably $10K worth of guns that he gave away.   I looked long and hard for any of those guns at every single gun show for a year. I was hitting pawn shops and gun stores but I could never locate any of them. And that is one of the things I will hold against my father forever.   I have a couple of guns that will go to my grand daughter when she is old enough.
  10. Post a picture of the stoppage.
  11. They don't Mike or at least I have NEVER heard of a 922r compliance check. I imagine if they ever started there would be a lot of pissed off people and right now they do not want that, way too many people already pissed off. Everyone is on the look for someone to blame and at the top of that blame is our government. They really can't take a chance.   It really is a stupid law that does NOTHING for safety or security. It only serves to grief gun owners and stifle those who are in the business of selling guns or gun related items.   Like the stupid law that says a parts kit cannot include the original barrel. Every time they pass a stupid law gun parts, and especially AK parts, get more expensive. You used to be able to buy parts kits with original barrels for a few hundred dollars but now those same kits are $600+ and if it still has the original barrel add a few more to that number. I seen an RPK kit the other day that sold for $1,200 that probably originally sold for a few hundred dollars. Krinkov kits with the original barrel are $2,000+ and still $1,500 without.   We are in for a really, really rough road over the next 3-5 years as gun owners. We are already being targeted by our government as terrorists. Even Hillary has said gun owners are terrorizing the rest of the nation and should be dealt with like terrorists. Obama just announced he will have a domestic terrorism counsel to look for "right wing extremists", those who hold racist, bigoted or anti-government views or see themselves as “sovereign citizens. They have already declared veterans should be viewed as potential terrorists. So they are going to be coming for anyone they feel is a threat to the agenda. The government has even said "right wingers" are more of a threat than ISIS or any other jihadist. So imagine the resources that will be brought to bear against us if our government thinks conservative gun owners are terrorists that are more of a threat than ISIS. So anyone who does not feed into the BS our government is doing or saying will automatically be considered a terrorist.   Every year more laws get passed to control us. Eventually it will be impossible to live as a free man and that will be the day I become a criminal.   http://www.wnd.com/2015/10/new-obama-czar-will-hunt-right-wing-extremists/ http://www.inquisitr.com/2053456/hillary-clinton-compares-gun-control-foes-to-terrorists-video/
  12. You will pass out long before the ATF comes to their senses. Personally if you get the ATF knocking at your door over a 922r violation you have royally screwed up somewhere. I have three Romanian guns and all have been perfect. There are a lot of issues cropping up with the Century C47 and RAS guns. The bolts, not the carriers, are mushrooming BAD. They had issues with carriers being too soft and the bolts are apparently soft too. They are also using a lot of cast parts that are supposed to be forged. Only time will tell with the cast parts but there are already some knowledgeable people chiming in saying they will fail.
  13. I wonder if it would be advantageous to call/email/contact our representatives or perhaps anyone else regarding this if they do decide to hear it? It would seem that this would be the one thing ALL gun owners can get behind. But we will here the fudds crying the ARs and AKs should be outlawed because all a gun owner needs is a shotgun and bolt action.
  14. If you need any lathe work to lighten the barrel let me know LF. They also make a butt pad that clamps to the buffer tube. Can't get much lighter than that.
  15. The border region IS a warzone. Gunfights and exchanges of gunfire happen regularly down there. Plenty of reports of gunfire coming from Mexico into the US and some of it isn't your typical bad guy. I read one report where the Mexican military fired upon officers with belt fed 50's from HMMWVs we probably gave them. Under those circumstances I hope those being fired upon at least has the firepower to fight back but most don't.   Since the time the officer shot an illegal for hitting an officer in the face with a rock they have been a lot more leery about returning fire. I was infuriated at that whole debacle and it cost several good officers their careers as well as their freedom. But the liberal media convicted the officer long before his trial. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Shooting-San-Diego-Border-Patrol-Otay-Truck-Trail--245985161.html   I hope every officer has every single piece of equipment they think they will need to survive and make it home to their family.   I don't have a problem with officers having an armored vehicle or even belt feds so long there is a justified reason for having it. I live in a little town where nothing happens that would justify having belt feds and armored vehicles. I would not be upset at the officers wanting or having them but I would be a little upset because my taxes will go towards the use and maintenance of something we do not need rather than getting stuff the officers REALLY need. Every jurisdiction should have what they need but a lot of departments are confusing wants with needs or just taking stuff because it was "free". And at least in my jurisdiction the administration is choosing their wants over their officer's needs. Officers in my jurisdiction are still being issued vests from the early 90's. They are wrapped in duct tape to keep them in one piece so I would hope officers get what they need before the department gets an armored vehicle they have to pay to maintain. They do have an armored HMMWV but that is driven around and used as the personal vehicle.
  16. They already have a plan that works and that plan is what they are using here. It is just a matter of time before we see Muslim only areas that non Muslims will be attacked in. Non Muslims will be subject to Sharia law in those "muslim zones", just like in Europe. Don't want to believe it will happen here, look at EVERY European country right now and see what will happen here. They have the end game in mind and have been working towards that goal for centuries so they know exactly what they are doing. And what is happening in Europe and most other non Muslim countries will be happening here. They have been making demands for accommodation HERE and we change OUR behavior to keep from upsetting those who are attacking us and our way of life.   We can blame the PC police for all of this. If we could call things for what they are we would not be in as bad of shape as we are.   The Muslim horde WILL take over the United States like Europe and there is nothing we, or anyone else, can do about it so long as we cannot call them what they are.
  17. Never, ever do nothing and sitting in a room waiting is doing nothing. The worst possible thing anyone can ever do is nothing. By doing nothing you are not trying and if you are not trying you have already lost.   First and foremost get the hell out of the building, no matter how or what you have to destroy to get out. I liken an active shooter to a fire because you are going to want to do almost the exact same thing. Get low, as small as you can will still being able to move fast and get out of the building by the quickest means possible. Once you are out NEVER go back in. Then once outside run away and get as far away as you can until authorities start asking for witnesses.
  18. Speaking of rare, when I was a kid at least once a month I would find green tree snakes while wondering around in the woods. I have been back here for 16 years now and have only seen one. Now granted I do not roam the woods like when I was 9 years old but I should be seeing more than what I do now.
  19. An adjustable gas block will cut down on that as well as the blowback coming back into your face.
  20. No clue. It was just a picture of the frame. Most people on Facebook think it is awful but I really like it. I would go one step farther and Cerakote it with silver then wipe off the high spots to give it some depth.
  21. Came across this on FB and thought I would share. Personally I really, really like it.
  22. 308 Winchester and 7.62x51 are not the same and cannot be interchanged in some guns. 7.62x51 is loaded to a much lower pressure than 308 Winchester. Because of this some surplus guns chambered for 7.62x51 can be damaged by shooting 308 Winchester.   ETA: Dimensionally they are identical
  23. By the way you can buy a comparable Savage, with Accutrigger AND scope for under $400. Even if you do not plan on doing anything to it the option is always there. Savages are the 10/22's of the centerfire world because they can easily be modified at home without the need of a gunsmith. And as I have said Savages are known for their out of the box accuracy.   And one more thing. Savages they do NOT have an active recall on their guns like Remington. You could very well buy a brand new Remington and have to send it in for warranty work before the first shot is fired. Now it should not cost you anything but nothing sucks worse than getting a brand new toy only to find out it needs to be repaired which is exactly what is going on right now with most Remington bolt actions.   Avoid the Axis, it is a decent gun but they do not hold their resale value and there is very little in the way of aftermarket support.   Buy a 1x (like model 10 or model 11 or model 16) or 11x model Savage instead of the Axis, you will be much happier. The difference between a model 10 and model 110 is the model 10 is a short action and the model 110 is a long action. So basically if the model number has two digits it is a short action and if the model number has three digits it is a long action.
  24. That is what we call a "rifle". :)
  25. Hey Reefer, I can PM my number to you. If you want the good, bad and ugly about selecting a rifle and caliber, especially here in east Tennessee, we can talk. I realize you are relatively new around here so I would like to offer to help you get all this figured out. Nothing worse than agonizing over what to buy only to find out what you bought might be what you wanted and not what you needed.   And if you don't you can do a search above because this same question gets asked pretty regularly. But as you have seen we actually do not mind answering the same questions.   In Tennessee, because it is so long and narrow, you can have all different kinds of terrain so one gun that works in one place will not work for other places.  When selecting a Savage there are two basic ones to look for, ones with a rounded receiver at the back and one with a flat receiver at the back, like  Remington. The round back receivers are current production guns that have a lifetime warranty on them. They started being produced in the last ~10-12 years and are considered current production. The square backs, although nearly as good, do not have the same warranty. If you do not plan on modifying the gun, other than a barrel swap, then the square back will suit you just fine.   Here is some information I wrote a while back on Savage rifles.   Savages are known for their out of the box accuracy. Something else you can do is twist the barrel in a little more to tighten up the headspace. What that does is makes your brass last a whole lot longer which is a big consideration with expensive brass.   Another great thing about all Savages is you can do a barrel, and caliber, swap in about 20 minutes. And you do it without the need of a gunsmith. The barrel nut doesn't need to be tightened by some gorilla on steroids either. All it needs is to be snug. I set my headspace, snug the barrel nut to lock it in place and then I used to use a hammer and punch to lock it in place. I normally give it one whack and call it good. I have yet to have a barrel come loose. I recently picked up a dedicated wrench set for $30 and it makes life a little easier with certain barrel nuts but the punch method is perfectly acceptable.   With a Savage you can buy a spare bolt head in another rim diameter for ~$25 and swap it at home. To swap bolt heads on a Remington requires a new $150 bolt. $25 for a Savage vs $150 for a Remington.   New factory Savage barrels can be had for $125-$200 depending on profile and length. You can buy used barrels for $40-$100 depending on profile and caliber. And the best part is they can be installed at home without the need for a gunsmith. So for ~$150 you can have everything to swap to completely different caliber with a Savage. With a Remington, and most other brands, you are talking about $300+ to do the same, because of the lathe time needed to set the headspace, and that is if you stay within the same rim diameter. If you have to change rim diameters on a Remington add the $150 because you have to buy a completely separate bolt and not just the bolt head. So the cost swap to swap calibers on a Savage is <$200 vs $300+ for a Remington. If you have to use a different bolt head the cost is <$225 for a Savage and $450+ for a Remington. There is no labor cost in swapping in a Savage and once you own the barrel there are no more costs associated with swapping the barrels.   Aftermarket match barrels by Shilen, McGowan, Lothar Walther, PacNor and a few others are available that drop into Savages are also available for under $350 and require no fitting by a gunsmith. With a Remington you have to buy a blank which will cost $300+ then spend another $200+ having it machined, chambered and headspaced.   The cost for a drop in match barrel for a Savage is less than just having a barrel fitted, not including the barrel blank, to a Remington in most cases. Factory Remington take offs rarely headspace correctly so that requires lathe time and that is cost. Most factory take offs cost $100-$150 to have the headspace fixed. Because YOU set the headspace at home it doesn't cost a Savage user a single cent to install a barrel.   Setting the headspace on a Savage is simple. And headspace becomes an issue from too loose and not too tight. I use my sized brass as the headspace gauge on my Savages and have never had an issue and my brass lasts a very, very long time.   Imagine having your Savage chambered in 308 Win then 20 minutes later shooting 22-250, 338 Federal or any of the calibers that are based on the 308 Win. If you have a 308 Win then any other caliber that has a .473" rim diameter can be swapped installed in a Savage in 20 minutes or less. Or you can grab a .532" or .378" bolt head and shoot any one of the dozens of calibers that use those bolt heads. It adds about 10 minutes to the swap to swap out bolt heads. You could even have a barrel chambered in 45 ACP for something odd for the range. I built my wife a Savage in 45 ACP and it is a blast to shoot.   Another great thing is IF you are having a custom barrel made for your Savage the gunsmith doesn't need the action. So while you wait for your barrel you can continue to enjoy your gun.   Triggers are going to be similar in cost . Whether you keep the Accutrigger, which is better than most any factory Remington trigger, or you upgrade the costs are similar with a Savage. The best drop in trigger for a Savage is the Sharp Shooter Supply Competition trigger which runs $110 from Brownells. It is a completely different design than the Timney trigger or Rifle Basix or factory trigger. The SSS Competition trigger is a three lever design that results in a very nice trigger that is both reliable and consistent. It is also comparable to any "match" trigger available for any Remington.   Bolt handles are easily replaceable and CHEAP for the Savage. A tactical bolt handle, complete and ready to go on the bolt, costs under $40 for a Savage. And it can be swapped in under 5 minutes at home without a smith. Most places charge $100+ to put a different bolt handle on a Remington bolt. It costs $50+ to have the bolt handle threaded for a custom bolt knob on a Remington. So whether you replace the entire bolt handle or have the factory one threaded for an aftermarket knob you are looking at $100+ with a Remington. I have also seen several Remington replacement bolt handles fall off because the weld or solder wasn't good enough. It is impossible for a Savage bolt handle to fall off. So to swap bolt handles is $40 for a Savage vs $100 on a Remington.   Remington fans used to throw out that there were more stocks for a Remington than a Savage and that used to be true. But now any stock available for a Remington is also available for a Savage.   Most Savages now use magazines and have decent bottom metal as well. With Remington you are talking hundreds to have bottom metal installed.   And finally, the Savage barrel nut makes so much sense that Remington has finally embraced it. Their new 783 is a Savage with the Remington name. The 783 is identical, as far as design goes, to a Savage. No more of a ringing endorsement that to have your main competitor copy your design. So why not just get a 783 then? Because there is ZERO aftermarket support for it right now but I suspect once Remington guys realize the advantages of have a easily swappable barrel and bolt  face they too will embrace the barrel nut.   I am about to build a LONG range Savage. I will probably be using the 300 Blackout but not because it is the best choice but because it is the best choice for me.
