I spoke to the office manager, Ryan, at RK shows about the security guards taking my ammo over the weekend. He stated it was the owners policy to seize any loose ammo that entered the show. I asked who the guards were and if they were licensed. He said that the security guards were not licensed in TN and that there is no requirement for them to be as long as they were working the RK show. I explained that the security had no right to seize my private property because a sign was posted, they could deny me admittance or allowed me to take it to my car but they could not legally take my private property when no laws were broken. He stated that the signs gave him the same rights as a restaurant with a no carry sign posted. I explained that the restaurant owners have no right to seize private property either but they do have the right to ask me to leave or call LE. I asked him if I posted a sign in my driveway that said "No Chevrolet trucks" did that give me the right to seize any Chevrolet truck that entered my driveway? He started talking about how it was the owners policy and not to try to argue with him. I told him I wasn't trying to argue and that I just wanted to know what laws I broke that allowed the security guards to seize my property. I again explained to him that no laws were broken and that LE was never called so the security guard had no right to seize my private property. He said that it was the owners rules and that I should have never entered with loose ammunition. I told him I wanted to take it to my car and he said I was already in the show by the time the security guard took my property. I told him I was not in the show yet and he said I was on the property so I was in the show. Ryan also said that numerous other people, over the course of the weekend, also lost their ammunition while entering. I explained I bought ammo to replace mine inside the show. Ryan stated as long as the ammo was in a container it would be allowed in the show. He went on to say he would have the owner call me. I spoke to the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance regarding Ryan's staement that the security guards do not need to be licensed. They are the departmetn that issues guard licenses as well as handles complaints regarding licensed security. I was told by that office that if they wear a security guard uniform and work within the boundries of the state they are required to have a valid security guard license. Dolomite

They are not KPD or any other LE. They are rent-a-cops. It was my fault for making that leep and sorry for any of the confusion. I have already email RK Gunshows about it. I seen it while working for KCSO. One of the duputies had a girlfriend who worked for EMS. They had a long running relationship. What brought it to light is when the officer said he was going hunting in one of the national forests. When his wife couldn't get a hold of him on the phone for a few days she contacted the SO. When no one in the SO could get a hold of them they started searching for him. After a day of searching with helo's and such he turned up in a hotel with his girlfriend. He was taken off the road and put back in the jails. This happened in 2003 I think and he was still in the jails when I left in September of 2005. I honestly can't remember his name but he was a pretty nice guy, kind of high strung but still not a bad fellow. Dolomite -

Thanks for the clarification on the people checking the firearms. After it happened I had called a friend with KCSO and he said they were probably KPD reserve officers. He said they had started using the KPD reserve officers rather than pay the KCSO officers that used t work the show as a side job. My friend had worked the shows numerous times so I didn't question what he had to say about it. I guess I should have paid more attention to their uniforms but at that moment all I was seeing was my ammo going in a cup as well as seeing a bit of red. Sorry about the KPD confusion, it wasn't meant to be a cop bashing thread and I don't think it was. I guess in light of this it steps it up even more because someone who has no legal authority, maybe even less than LE, took what was rightfully mine. Doing this would likely harm someone who had absolutely nothing to do with siezing of private property. And honestly the ammo they siezed wouldn't be worth the potential harm it would cause to even the person responsible. Dolomite -

They are not on duty or at least not is the normal duty uniform KPD wears. I believe they are part of the special events team that are a seperate group of officers that do security for various events in the city. I have seen them in the past at different venues. They are generally retired officers, reserve officers or cadets. As far as the signs, no I didn't notice them. Mostly because there are always signs saying different stuff on them and I probably tuned the no magazine signs out the same way I tune out the other signs proclaiming stuff that has nothing to do with the show. Yeah it was my bad for entering with a loaded magazine but when I asked to take it to my car they refused and kept my ammo. I would have gladly taken it to the car. Dolomite -

It was the young kid closest to the consession stand who took the ammo and the older officer next to him who said it was and expensive lesson. I handed him the mag because I didn't expect it. I have shown other officers at previous shows my ammo, my holster as well as some other tactical stuff, all without incident. That is why I didn't think anything of it. It was almost like a HAHA we got another one type aura about it as they smiled at each other. Dolomite -
I went to the RK gun show today. I have a valid HCP and cleared my weapon, locking the slide to the rear before entering. I handed the officer, who was checking firearms, my pistol and he put a zip tie through the ejection port like they always do. Then the officer asked if I had a magazine, I said yes and he asked to see it. I pulled it out of my pocket and showed him. He then said give it to me, I didn't think anything of it and handed it to him. At that point he began emptying it into a cup. I asked what he was doing and his response was that no loaded ammunition is allowed in the show. I aksed if I could take it to my car and he said no. I told him that the ammo wasn't cheap and another officer piped in saying it was an expensive lesson and not to bring loaded ammunition into the gunshow again. I got a bit upset but I took my empty magazine and walked inside. Once inside I bought a box of LOADED ammo to replace the stuff that they had just emptied into the cup that way I had ammo for the ride home. These weren't the usual officers, KCSO, that do the security for the shows but some division of KPD. Dolomite

My apps are constantly revolving but the few that ALWAYS remain are: Ballistic: Field Tactical Edition - A ballistic Program BulletFlt L1 - A ballistic Program The Weather Channel - Obvious Ebay Mobile - Obvious iShoot Lite - A free cannon shooting game (Time Vampire) Of the ballistic software this is my opinion Ballistic FTE has a lot of variables you can input so you can tweak it. It definitely is the most comprehensive ballistic app out there. It allows you to update conditions using the phone, if you have service that is. If not you just input manually and you are good to go. For what you get Ballistic is a great value for the money. On the other hand KAC's Bullet Flight light is very good for the $3.99 is costs. You are able to do everything with it you can with Ballistic except the tables. The HUD modes are almost identical so if that is all you are wanting then get the KAC version, especially the light version. You have to put in the environmental variables with the light version but that is fine because it is easy. It does have bullets that are loaded in the database with the correct drag, all you have to do is input your velocity and you should be good. Ballistic also has information on individual bullets like drag and such. It also has the same type of info on loaded ammo including velocity. This information can be loaded and then a drop chart is displayed on the screen. If everything looks OK then you can save it and load it into the HUD that allows you to change distances on the fly, so to speak. For the money I would choose KAC's Light version of Bullet Flight. The HUD's are almost identical and I think for most users it would work great. Ballistic has drop tables but those are easy to find online at places like JBM. KAC's Bullet Flight Light will probably work for 90% of the shooters/hunters out there. Between the two I use Ballistic more than Bullet Flight. Mostly because I got it first and am used to it. I use Bullet Flight to confirm the calculations of Ballistic. One more thing, if you are going to buy Ballistic buy the $19.99 version with all the bells and whistles. If you don't you will only be wanting it later, trust me. Dolomite

I paid off all my cedit cards in 1999 and have not had one since. My wife had a Kohl's card for a few months once since then but we paid it off then destroyed it. Right now the only debt I have is the truck payment and the mortgage. My feeling on it is if I don't have the money for it I don't need it. I can plan for something if I really want it. If it is an emergency and I don't have the money then I take out a loan, that way there is a definitive end. It also is a positive to your credit score. A credit card isn't always a negative, just when you get in over your head. Dolomite

Had you responded, the idiot would have dragged you down to his level then beat you with his experience. I don't openly carry but I don't go out of my way to hide it either. I get stares and pointing from time to time but nothing I am too worried about. I even get asked about it from tiem to time and most times people don't worry once they realize I am not some nut job. My biggest fear is that someone over reacts and calls 911 saying there is a man with a gun at ****. At that point the cops will show up and it might get blown out of proportion. Dolomite

Have you decided not to buy a 380 because of the ammo shortage?

I am just saying spending the rest of their nature life in prison is more punishing than a quick prick in the arm. I wasn't getting into the costs, just the justice of it all. Spending the next 40 years in prison is far harsher than being humanely executed. If we are talking costs alone then yes kill them if that is the cheaper route but according to most resources is costs more to try and convict someone in a death penalty case versus a life in prison case. If we are talking about actually punishing them then lets do something other than a needle stick in the arm and life in prison seems like it would be more punishing. Costs of the Death Penalty | Death Penalty Information Center Death penalty cases cost more than life in prison cases both during the trial as well as after sentencing. There is a lot more additional costs that go into convicting and housing a death row inmate than one that is tried and sentenced to life in prison. In fact it probably costs more to house death row inmates because of the seperate special facilities they house them in. And when you consider that most death row inmates are housed for decades before being executed the additional cost of prosecution isn't, in my eyes, worth it. Why not just save us all some money and try them seeking life in prison rather than death. Here is some decent reading on the subject from numerous sources all citing the same thing, death penalty cases cose more over the long run the life in prison. Does the death penalty cost less than life in prison without parole? - Death Penalty - ProCon.org Dolomite

For the roll pin make sure you are using a flat and not pointed punch. Sometimes when using a pointed punch it can wedge the roll pin in place when you try to beat it out. Dolomite

I agree this is a slippery slope. Everybody applauds this because it is sex offenders and I am in agreement that those who commit sex crimes should have whatever means it takes to prevent it from happeneing again. At some point though the jump will be made and apply the same ruling to other crimes. By ruling that keeping sex offenders indefinitely is constitutional it might one day be applied to other laws that have been broken. After all a crime is a crime and those who continue to commit crimes might someday find themselves in the same boat. Perhaps one day the person who has been repeatedly arrested or cited for something relatively minor is kept in jail indefinitely to prevent him/her from doing it again. Chronic speeders, pot smokers, or a number of other crimes that people tend to continue to do even after getting caught. Jail isn't the solution for the sex offenders but a institution similar to a mental institution would work better. After all it is a mental disorder and should be treated as such rather than keeping them in jail indefinitely. Most jails aren't equipped to treat mental disorders anyways so why expect any type of behavior modification. They should be institutionalized, like they do now, as if they have a metal disorder that is dangerous to others. Dolomite

Personally, I believe that by serving life in prison they have to endure a lot more punishment than just a needle prick then falling asleep. They will spend the rest of their lives living every day in fear as well as being subjected to things most people couldn't fathom. In my eyes it is a more appropriate punishment than just being humanly put to death. By spending the next 40+ years in prison it punishes the criminals as well as their families who I feel are partly responsible for not raising their children to do the right thing. I understand that putting the criminals to death is what the victim's family needs to feel closure but in most cases life without the possibility of parole is more punishing than the death penalty. I am not against the death penalty but I believe the way it is done is too humane for some of the animals we have out there. Kill the criminal in a similar way as their victims and I am all for it. Those who are responsible for the Christian-Newsome murders should be killed exactly how they killed those kids. The same ways and on the same time line, making it take as long to die as it took those kids to die. And while the sentence is being carried out make those who raised the criminals watch so they too can feel the pain of loosing a loved one in such a horrible way. Another thing I personally believe is that while a criminal is in jail they should loose the rights a law abiding citizen has. While incarcerated they already loose most of their rights. Why not take their right to a be free from cruel and unusual punishment in cases where a life was taken and make them really suffer for what they have done. Dolomite

They had to change a few things to make HK happy after the lawsuit. Mostly appearance stuff. As far as the quality, I have heard mixed reports of the durability. Most people though, are happy with them and most problems are easily fixed with aftermarket stuff. Here is a lot of info in the GSG-5's: GSG-5 - AR15.COM Dolomite

I would not go anywhere. I live in a relatively remote area on a dead end road. Most people who have been to my house never knew the road was as long as it is. I live on the side of a mountain that offers a lot of great areas to hold out if need be. Wildlife is abundant for food because no one hunts here. I generally keep 30-40 gallons of water as well as at least a few weeks worth of dry goods. Dolomite

The reason I asked about 38 Super is because it will be the easiest to convert to 7.62x25 Tokarev. With a necked cartridge feeding shouldn't be an issue. The rim diameters are withing .007" and OAL is within .03 so it is definitely doable. When I get the Tokarev 1911 built it will no doubt be a carry gun. The round is an amazing round that has very few equals in the auto pistol world. I have actually checked into having a all steel 9mm 1911 built. I liked th idea of having a light recoiling pistol to both shoot and carry. Dolomite

Are they available in 38 Super? Are they "in spec" as far as the fitment of aftermarket parts? Thanks Dolomite

If you look at some of the airsoft replicas their fire controls look exactly like the fire controls from a FA AR. I have seen them and I was amazed at how the lower parts passed muster. In the airsofters quest to make the guns as real as possible they are using internal controls that are nearly identical. They work identical and have a bolt that actaully operates the same way a FA AR works. And yet another version: Here is a picture of an AIRSOFT: http://6mm-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ino-m4-3.jpg Looks just like the fire controls of a real FA AR with a trip. http://6mm-mag.com/ If you are familiar with the controls of a real FA AR you will see a disturbing similarity between a real MG and these airsoft guns. These are all airsoft guns in the video and pictures. Do a search for Inokatsu or Western Arms airsoft if you don't think these are airsoft rifles. Now a real round will not chamber or fire from the airsoft upper but in the quest to make them real I bet a REAL upper will indeed fit onto the lower. I would not want to even try it or own one of these with a real AR or even an upper in my possession. The hammer spring is likely very weak, in fact probably not strong enough to light off a primer but with a spring change it might be possible. I am not sure of durability but if the lower is made out of aluminum and a REAL upper would fit I can see where it could be a valid concern. There are some mainstream AR makers who are using cast lowers so these would airsoft lowers should hold up at lest for a little while if some decided to try it. Like I said you would probably have to step up the springs strengths to get it to fire a primer but I do believe the similarities are close enough to be a real concern. Now realistically, if someone really wanted to convert a real AR the parts are available online as well at most shows and the mods needed on a semi lower are minimal for the parts to be installed. The fire control parts themselves are not against the law to have but having them while owning or possessing an AR is constructive intent and in that case is a machine gun. It is up to the end user to have a REGISTERED MG in order to posses the FA fire controls. I am not talking about a RDIAS but the parts that can legally be put into a registered lower. A RDIAS, Lighting Link and a registered lower are all seperate items. It is possible to have a RDIAS or a LL and move them between different guns as long as they are married. With a registered receiver that is the registered part. Honestly, I can see where this would raise some eyebrows. These are not the older gear driven airsoft so many people think about. These have reciprocating bolts as well as a full auto trip just like real FA AR's. Just my thoughts on this Dolomite -
I agree with having a customer check their firearms before bringing it in unless it is a self defense gun that is holstered. I have seen it more than a few times where an "UNLOADED" firearm ejects a live round when it is checked by a shop. Dolomite

We had a local lady who was charged with over 30 counts of theft/fraud when she would steal gift cards and load them with $500 each. She totalled a little over $60K in what she had stolen over a 6 month period. She plead guilty to it and promised to make restitution even though she said she was unable to work because of a mental condition. Her sentence was 3 years unsupervised probation and as of yet she still hasn't went to work. The problem is the restitution is generally paid by the courts to the victim them the courts go after the criminal. I have seen it done this way numerous times. If this happened in this case then we, as tax payers, foot the bill for her thefts and she gets to keep the money unless she goes back to work. It also passes along a message to others who have nothing to loose, if you steal and plead guilty nothing will happen to you. Yes, the justice system needs a revamp along with 90% of the laws on the books. Dolomite
