I think it is time. I had purchased it because that is what I used overses when I was working. I wanted to carry the same firearm when home as when overseas to prevent any muscle memory confusion. Now that it is apparent I will probably not go back overseas for work because of a helicopter accident I am looking for something to replace my G17 as my primary carry gun. I like the Glock for its reliability but in all honesty I do not like the trigger as well as the feel of the gun in my hands. I am a decent shot with most guns including the Glock but I can shoot better with most other platforms. I believe the reason for this is in the trigger. I know I can lighten the trigger but that only addresses one issue I have. There are a few other issues as well. It doesn't feel right in my hand is one and another is the fact I would like to shoot reload using the cheapest bullets I can to practice, ie cast lead. Again I can fix it with a new barrel but I don't want to put any more money into a gun I can't shoot as well as others and doesn't feel as comfortable in my hands. I sold a 1911 to fund the purchase of the Glock. I have carried a 1911 on and off for years. I feel comfortable with cocked and locked carry. Because of this I think I will go back to a 1911. I am setup to load 45 ACP as well as 9mm and honestly a 1911 in 9mm has intrigued me for a while. I like the reduced recoil as well as the extra rounds but I am not dead set on a 1911 in 9mm. I have other guns in each caliber so I will continue to reload for each. Other than 1911 what other full size platforms in 45 ACP and 9mm should I consider purchasing as a Glock replacement? I am undecided on gun as well as caliber but I want to stay way from a DAO or striker if possible. This thread is not a thread trying to sell my Glock here. I will not respond to "How much" PM's. I am just trying to feel out the waters for anything other than a 1911. Thanks Dolomite

If you would be willing to sell some items individually I would buy some stuff from you. I would gladly pay shipping by way of a flat rate. All I would need you to do is a few measurements on a few items to make sure I can use them. Dolomite

Personally I would like to see Clark suck start a Glock. Dolomite

Generally speaking when people bragg and find every opportunity to let everyone know they are SEAL, sniper, SF, MEU, etc, then they are posers. I have been doing this for a few years now and my hunches haven't been wrong. Every sevice member I see in uniform I have to walk up and shake their hand, thanking them at the same time. I noticed a few younger guys in uniform talking to a few firemen. I walked up like I always do and shook their hands, thanking them. They took it in, smiling and standing tall. At that point I noticed they were wearing E-7 rank. Now I know some MOS's you can fast track but these kids weren't 20. So I asked "So you guys are E-7's?" their response was blank stares. I pointed at and aksed again about their rank, again getting blank stares. At this point they began to sulk and try to turn away to keep me from seeing the rank. They started to figit a bit, looking noticeably uncomfortable with my questions. At that point I accused them of being phonies and wearing a uniform and rank they never earned. They turned and walked away briskly. I followed them for about 20 seconds telling them in a loud voice they were fakes and that I was going to call the law. I went back to talk to the fireman. Turns out these two kids were telling them they had been fireman for a mumber of years and the fireman were skeptical of the fireman as well as their military service. They are out there every where. With all the attention being giving to veterans (not enough in my opinion) people are using it as a means to profit. People cheapen the sacrifices veterans have made with their antics. Dolomite

I oust the posers all the time. I request service records to verify then shame them. I have done it to a number of people and unltimately they change their tune, at least for a while they do. Unfortunately a recent supreme court ruling states that medals and claims are freedom of speech now. SO unless they use the false claims to profit services from like the VA and such nothing can be done anymore. There might be one in our midst. The range master (Ken Riley) at a range at Gray Kennel Security is a poser. His claims of being a SEAL are false. It has been verified through records that he never was a SEAL and his false claims only make him a idiot. Here is his claims of being a SEAL: http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/News/article.php?ID=77151 And about half way down you can see his face: http://www.pownetwork.org/phonies/phonies1255.htm As I said before he is a poser, liar and in my opinion a thief. Ken, if you are on here PM me I have some questions for you. If I am wrong you shouldn't have a problem showing up here loser. Dolomite

Either Bass Pro, Dick's or Gander Mountain sent me a flyer in last 3 days that had the Moultrie D50 on sale for $64.99. Dolomite

Yeah but in a lot of those countries bullets are cheaper and easier to come by than fireworks. During one celebration a local town, where I was, began firing AA into the mountain side to put on a show and quite the show it was. Unfortuantely the bad guys used some of the own fireworks (RPG's) to blow up a local police station that same night. Dolomtie

Yep, I was planning on making the trip to get one but my health problems are going to prevent me from taking the trip to Chatanooga. Besides the Chatanooga store only has 1 sale rifle left and it will likely be gone by the time I get down there. I called Bass Pro and Gander Mountain about price matching. Bass Pro doesn't carry the firearm and Gander Mountain will not price match Academy's prices. The reason is they stated that is because Academy is not a direct competitor. I said it seems as though you are competing with them and they said they would not price match. Gander Mountain only has liek 2 or 3 competitors with Bass Pro being one. Dolomite

When I worked in LE we had a new hire tell one of our instructors he was a ninja but not to tell anyone else. Unfortunately for him he told the wrong person if he was trying to keep something like that a secret. The ninja story was out and it made for a lot of fun working with him for the short time he was there. During training we realized he was way too uncoordinated to have anything more than just basic martial arts training if any at all. He would put on a big flashy show with arms flailing and a few screams but it looked more like he was having a seizure while trying to do some sort of new wave dance. When he did finally get done with training and come to work we would say "why don't you just go disappear into the shadows" whenever we didn't feel like hearing his stories of his conquests. It was always interesting hearing the stories though, especially hsi actual ninja conquest stories in which he always seemed to get into fights with large groups of people yet always won. He talked crap all the time, not just about being a ninja but guns, cars or anything else he could conjure up to make himself impressive. He didn't last long. He was caught trying to work a side job when he wasn't authorized to (he wasn't even POST certified or had been to the academy). At the side job he was wearing combat boots, jeans, a jail uniform top and a thigh rig with his personal HK pistol in it. Witnesses said he was standing around with his hands on his hips and justting his chest out as far as it would go. He resigned in lieu of being fired over some check fraud charges. Even though he had married well (she was extremely rich) he decided to cheat on his wife with the waitress he was writing the bad checks to. He was giving her large checks that he wrote for the tip then convincing her to give some of it back as cash. The false checks had been printed on the computer so his wife wouldn't find out about his infidelity. As in all things it eventually did come to light when the waitress called his work as well as filed criminal charges. When all of it came to a head it lead to his divorce but before he was kicked out he managed to rack up a few domestic violence charges on the way out. Last I heard, which was a few years ago, he was serving time for more check fraud/ identity theft as well as numerous violations of a order of protection. That is the only time I have ever met a ninja that I know of, I guess I consider my self lucky for surviving the encounter. Dolomite

I have spent the majority of my life sharpening knives as well as other stuff. What I have gravitated to and learned to use is a soft Japanese water stone. I use a 800/4000 combination stone. I am able to get edges that will literally shave. I also have a polishing stone although I don't use it much. The biggest reason I use soft stones is they work very well and are forgiving at the same time. I have tried ceramic stones and they work also but tend to be a bit aggressive. I use my ceramic stones to flatten my soft stones. I have used Lansky sharpeners as well as a few other "systems" yet I come back to my soft stones because they produce a better edge in my opinion. There is also a deifference between having a knife shaving sharp and having a working edge as I call it. There have been times where I have had a knife so sharp and polished that cutting a rope would be a chore because the smooth edge of the knife would just glide across the rope. For knives that gets used I only use the 800 grit side. This leaves the edge a bit rough yet sharp, almost like a serrated blade just on a microscpic scale. Doing it this way leaves you with a knife that cuts fibrous or hard material easier. There is a trick to sharpening by hand. If you would like I can meet you somewhere sometime and show you what I know. When I used to go overseas as part of my work I would touch down and literally have 20-30 knives waiting for me to sharpen by people in country. Every trip I bet I sharpened close to 100 knives for people. Dolomite

I have used a Glock since 2005, before that I wouldn't have ever considered a Glock. At first I didn't like them but because of its reliability I now own one that I carry every day. I honestly can't think of any complaints but one thing I am considering is putting in the extra power trigger spring in conjunction with a 3.5# connector. I did install a ghost ring rear to see if I like it. I am still up in the air about it but it does make longer shots easier. Dolomite

Origins of Signs Holding Weight in TN
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Personally I don't care what the sign looks like or how it is worded. I like the idea of a "gunbuster" sign because some people are illiterate and can not read (not me). It is the property owner's right to refuse guns and I will respect his wishes, if I have to enter the property, regardless of how the sign looks. Even if it was written on a piece of cardboard in Crayon I would still respect his wishes and not enter if that is his wishes. It shouldn't matter how it looks or is worded. It is almost like saying someone can't ask you to leave unless they ask only using certain words. Not either of you, but a lot of people are getting caught up in how the message is presented and claimed to carry in areas that were posted but not exactly how the law dictated at the time. To me this is nothing more than flaunting it and does nothing to change the minds of those who are asking us not to enter armed. The fact of the matter is that it is the property owners right to refuse to allow firearms on his property if he so chooses. Again this isn't directed at either of you. DOlomite -
Replace the G26 or buy the Remington 700sps tacticla
Dolomite_supafly replied to Links2k's topic in General Chat
Rather than a Remington take a look at Savage. They are by far the most consistently accurate "out of the box" rifles. There are R700's that do shoot as well as Savages but they are the rarity and not the norm. Aftermarket support for Savages has went crazy in the past few years. Just about anything that is available for R700's are available for Savages. Stocks, bolt handles, scope bases as well as plenty of cusotm items are all readily available. Another big plus for Savages is that a barrel or caliber change takes about 10 minutes and can be done at home with readily available tools. If you buy the tools, which cost less than $50 you can change the barrel yourself. If you decide doing it yourself isn't for you then you can have a smith do it and by the way changing barrels on Savages are WAY cheaper than on a Remington. The first barrel swap I had done by a smith cost me $30 and about a 30 minute wait. He twisted off the old barrel screwed the new one on, set headspace then tightened down the barrel nut on the lug. That can't be done with a Remington. With Savages you can have a single gun that you can varmint hunt with and 10 minutes later hunt anything in North America. Used barrels are easily found for <$100 and brand new barrels are <$200. Even the big name custom barrel makers are making drop in Savage barrels. The triggers that are available are great and are reasonably priced. The best is the Sharp Shooter Supply Competition trigger and it can be had for less than $100. Even the Accutrigger is a fairly decent trigger. Dolomite -
The only primers I have are CCI 400 + 41, Wolf SRM and Remingtom 7.5 + 6.5. I haven't tested any of these against eachother. I generally stay with what works so Wolf SRM primers are going to be my primary primers. I just primed some brand new WInchester 223 brass with Remington 7.5's. I think a big thing is making sure all the brass is prepped and as close to the same dimensionally. I uniform the primer pockets, the flash holes as well as length. The tools to make sure the brass is uniform is less than the cost of 1K of primers so it isn't out of reach of most people who reload. The reason I reload isn't to save money although it does allow me to shoot more. The biggest reason was for the quality, my 30 cent bullets would cost me twice as much if I had to buy similar quality. Dolomite

I have had great luck with Brownell's Gunkote in the aerosol can. As long as you do a good prep you will not have any problems. It doesn't stink up the house when you bake it as long as you let the parts dry outside for a few minutes. When I plan on coating something this is my process: Media blast (sanding will work as well) Heat a solution of 1/2 Simple Green and 1/2 water Remove from heat as bubbles begin to form, DO NOT allow to boil Drop parts to be coated in solution for 15 minutes Heat just water and remove as bubles begin to form Remove parts from Simple Green solution and put in hot water solution Soak for another 15 minutes to remove SImple Green solution Remove parts from water and place in heated oven (Do not wipe down, only blow off if you have a compressor) Remove parts from the oven one at a time as you coat the part otherwise the last parts will be cooler and can affect the consistency of the finish After all parts are coated turn temp up to required temp and bake according to instructions These steps have worked for me 100% of the time and Gunkote is reasonably priced as well as durable. A single aerosol can should be enough to coat a few handguns. Dolomite

I can say that you will probably never see a difference between brands in pistol. As long as it cycles and seems accurate. In rifles some loads prefer certain primers. I run the same load, 69 SMK with 24.5 Varget, all the time. I have tried different primers and it does seem to have favorites based. The Wolf is the highest velocity load that maintains decent accuracy. I took the rifle out this weekend and was keeping ALL rounds within a 1.5" circle. My loads using CCI 400's seemed to shoot better at 100 yards but fall to pieces after that while the Wolf loads are accurate to at least 400 yards. My biggest concern was getting my ballistics programs to coincide with my loads. One program was right on with no tweaking while the other I need to tweak a bit more to get right. They let me make first rounds hits on steel at pretty much any known range. I have a mildot, just not on this rifle, that I use for determining distance. Once I am able to get a mildot for this rifle I should be able to determine distance without much fuss and use the mildot for holdover or even make precise adjustments using the knobs. Dolomite

I can say that when I switched from CCI 400's to Wolf Small Rifle Magnum I picked up an extra 200 FPS. Same load with the same powder, same charge weight, same cases and the same bullet seated to the same depth. I had never tried Wolf primers before so in the loading process I loaded some brass with Wolf rather than CCI 400's. I then went on to load ALL the brass in the same way then I went back and checked primers to get the Wolf primed bullets out of the bunch. I took 5 of those and 5 of the CCI 400's and ran them over the chronograph. should physicians routinely inquire about guns?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
When I go to see my doctor he asks me if I am carrying and when I tell him I am all I ever hear is "take that thing out of the holster so we can get an accurate weight". He is by far the best doctor I have ever seen. He runs a practice where he makes no appointments, first come, first served and I think this allows him to take as long as it takes to fix you up. He genuinely cares about his patients and is not like most doctors who try to squeeze as many appointments as they can into a single day. He has charged me less for every visit than what I would have to pay in copays when I did have insurance. And because of this even when I did have insurance I would still see him over the last 10 years . Dolomite -
Recieveing Threats from a HCP?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Smith's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Even after all of this just three days ago I again offered to pay for his residential treatment. I seriously doubt he will take me up on it but at least I have been offering. Problem is he is going to get upset when I tell him I will not give him the money for treatment but will give it directly to the clinic. I have offered for years and even took him to his methadone clinic to make sure he got there. Only problem was he had a plan before he started. He said he would get his methadone for free but once he got close to finishing the program he would take some hydro's and say he relapsed to get more methadone. After hearing that I told him I was done taking him. Sorry OP for hijacking, I am done now. Dolomite
