  1. I was talking long term, not what has happened with them taking it back immediately. If the OP had $2,700 sitting in a savings account for a few months that would make him a little money while leaving it in checking generally wouldn't. Also, I was assuming the OP does what I do and check my accounts daily. My bank lets me know 24-48 hours in advance before something is actually deducted from my account. This gives me time to move money to cover any deductions before they bring the account into an overdrawn status. The account I use for my Paypal purchases rarely has much more in it that what is needed to cover purchases. In the few instances where I had fraudulent charges on that account I was able to move money to cover them until I got everything sorted out. Dolomite
  2. Very long thread about them with a lot of feed back as well as reviews. Plumcrazy Firearms plastic ar15 lowers ? - AR15.COM I wish I could find one locally for a rimfire upper I recently put together. Dolomite
  3. My brother is a winner also, he is a heavy drug user that has tried to kill my family and I in the past during one of his temper tantrums. He won't come around because of a protective order my mother has as well as the fact he has warrants in our county. He cries he has mental issues and they forgo jail time for mental health facility. A few weeks later he is out. Funny thing is he sells his mental meds to pay for his other drugs. I have tried repeatedly to intervene to help my mother. She doesn't want my help and the last time I got involved she became upset at me rather than the person causing it all. I guess after being married 40 years she has become accustomed to it all. I have my own family to worry about and if I go to jail it will do absolutely no good. If I ever heal enough I will need my clearances to go back to work and an arrest would more than likely result in the clearances being pulled. Another good reason I can't is right now I am absolutely messed up from a helicopter accident. Hell, my wife helps me get dressed, has to help me in and out of the tub or shower, puts my shoes on, and pretty much most things normal people take for granted. I have mobility problems and other issues that put me in bed 3-4 days a week. Dolomite
  4. It never was a money issue and if it was a money issue I would have paid too. They had the money to do it but they were being cheap. That is the reason I didn't offer to pay. I did offer to give them a ride but I wasn't going to give them money knowing full well they had the money but were being cheap. I also wasn't going to shoot their dog (I offered them a gun to do it themselves but they refused), they have killed dogs in the past so I know they will do it. I just don't trust them to go do it for them. The dog was taken to the vet within a few hours of me calling them to find out what the noise was. But it took the threat of LE getting a call before they did do what was right. I called them at 6pm and when I found out what it was I told my wife that if they had not done what was right by 8pm I was calling the cops. They would have not done anything had I not threatened them with LE. My father is scared to death of LE for some reason and has made my mother scared to call LE as well. They will tolerate law breakers as long as they don't have to call LE. Even today they had a strange person sitting in their driveway for a while and my mother got scared. She called me and asked what to do and when I told her to call the cops her response was "I'll just run to my car and leave" rather than call LE. It could have been my brother waiting on her or someone my brother owes money to. As she was leaving the person in the car stopped my mother and told her they were looking for my brother because he owes them money. It was a finance company my brother took out a bunch of signature loans with but never paid them back. Dolomite
  5. This is what happened if a router drags your thumb into your work piece. RPM's weren't high enough for what I was doing and the piece of wood wasn't as secure as it needed to be. Safety is always the priority now where before I was worried about getting the job done. That was one of the more painful things I had to deal with short term, almost felt like a hammer smash on the thumb. It took months to heal right. Even today I have problems with the thumb because the skin grew back weird. Dolomite
  6. I carry a 1911 daily and have never had a thumb safety bump off. My holster is a bare bones rig with nothing covering the tumb safety or hammer. The thumb safety should be held both on and off in a positive manner. I have seen 1911's where the thumb safety would easily be knocked to the off position. For me I wouldn't carry a pistol with a thumb safety that light as this is the only thing that will keep the sear from coming off the hammer hook when the gun is jarred. The grip safety does not lock the sear, it only prevents the trigger from being pulled. And even if the grip safety isn;t depressed the sear can come off the hammer yet if the thumb safety is properly fitted and in the on position the sear cannot come off hte hammer. Dolomite
  7. Mega's stuff is good to go. They tend to be on the higher end of the quality scale. 9 twist should be good for around 70 grain bullets. The 7 twist barrels are good for 80 grain bullets, they will shoot 90 grains bullets but you can't load them to magazine length and still get enough powder in the case to get decent velocities. 80 grain bullets are easier to keep supersonic to 1000 yards than the 90's as well. You can shoot light weight bullets out of the fast twsit barrels. I have fired 40 grain V-maxes out of my 7 twist Savage and they don't fly apart. It is just a matter of finding what you are going to be shooting the most and pick a twist that works the best. Persoanlly I would go with a 9 twist, they work well with the most common weights of factory ammo like 55 grainers. You can still shoot 69 grian bullets accurately, I do. There is a reason why I don't recommend heavy bullets in fast twist barrels. Not going to get into it but suffice to say 9 twist shooting 55 or 62 grain bullets is a better performer. Dolomite
  8. None of this really started until we had built our house here. We were living quite a distance away prior to that and all seemed fine when we visited every few months. About the same time my brother started using all of his drugs is when all the other crap started. When visiting my father he seemed like he had changed from when I was young so I didn't even worry about it. But when we did move here on more of a permanent basis that is when he started trying to control us as well. With him is is all about control or jealousy. If he can't control someone and they are living better than him he is jealous and tries to do everything in his power to take it away or make you miserable. I decided about 4 months ago to allow my mother back into our lives because she is a victim in this as well and that was a mistake because along with her came all the drama about my brother and father. For the 8 or so months prior to that all was fine because we weren't talking. I have learned a very important lesson now and that is I am an orphan as far as they are concerned. I'll treat them like any other neighbor and not let feeling of family get in the way of what is right. Thanks guys Dolomite
  9. I use a soft Japanese water stone for all my sharpneing needs. I have several in various grits. The most often used on is a double sided stone that has 800 on one side and 4000 on the other. It does take time and practice to be able to do it by hand without any aids but once you get it keeping a nice edge is easy. Also once the edge is there touch ups are easy. I can take a dull knife and get it very sharp in less than 10 minutes and put a working edge on a knife in about half that. The 800 side allows em to put a "working edge" on the blade. It is almost like microscopic serrations and helps the knife cut through fibrous materials better than a very sharp edge. This is the kind of edge I normally put on most people's pocket knives because they get used for everyday tasks. The 4000 side allows me to put a very, very sharp edge on the knife and for everyday use it is too sharp. This edge works well in the kitchen but not so well out in the world. It is possible to have a knife so sharp and polished that it will not cut as easily as a working edge. I have tried to cut rope with a knife that was very sharp and polished. It would partially cut the rope then basically ride in theat groove. A working edge cuts rope quicker and easier. I have tried ceramic stones but now I use them to flatten my soft stones. The soft stones will have a depression form in the middle of the stone over time. The ceramics work well for prodicing a working edge but tend to be too aggressive for a very fine edge. I see you are in Sevierville, maybe we can get together sometime and I'll show you how I sharpen knives. Everyone has their favorite way of doing things no matter what it is . My way may not be as easy or as quick as others but it still produces a very sharp knife. Dolomite
  10. At least not nice ones. Dolomite
  11. Even if you knew there was a good possibility it would be used to settle some score and have you arrested? Me, I can't risk it because I have my family to worry about and take care of. I offered them a gun, they refused yet they wanted me to come up and do it. As I said before, they have lied to LE in the past trying to get me arrested because they know if I ever get arrested my clearances would be gone and with that my ability to go back to work if I ever heal up enough from my helicopter accident. The dog was taken somewhere, hopefully the vet, so the suffering should be over by now but it took threat of LE for them to do what needed to be done. There is a lot more to this dynamic than can be put into words. Unless you see the day to day drama that goes on you have no clue. My brother tried to kill my family and I last year during one of his drug induced tantrums. We had SWAT in our creek watching the house while a search team tried to find him. He is a heavy drug user that is following in our father's footsteps and is becoming a heinous person as well. My mother went into hiding because my brother was assaulting her. My father allowed my brother to stay in the house but my mother had to leave. Even after a protective order was in place my mother still wasn't able to return to the house because my father said keeping my brother in the house was more important than her. Both my brother and my father act as though women are animals that must be broken. My mother even told me my father hates my wife and I because I let her do what she wants and I don't control her. My father refuses to have anything to do with his grandson because of this. It is probably good anyways because of the stuff my father had pulled with him early on. To give you an idea, when our son was 7 we had our first Christmas with my parents. We moved here for that reason, so my son can be close to his grandparents. They gave him some nice presents but right after he opened them they leaned over and told him not to break them because they wanted them back. My son looked confused and quit playing with them, putting them back in their boxes. I told them to never do that again. And yes they asked when they could get the presents they gave him back. When I told them my son had donated them to help out less fortunate kids a few years later my parents got extremely mad at our son. They even told him at age 8 while he was staying at their house over the weekend that the toys were theirs and not his to give away. I got onto them over it and that was the last time he stayed at their house. Now the real drama starts as the blame game begins. I have been blamed for my brother's problems with the law because I called LE when he held our father hostage at shotgunpoint wanting drug money. I got blamed when my brother had his standoff with LE because a few months earlier I refused to give him any more money to buy his drugs. I have been blamed for their financial problems because I didn't give them enough money. I will no doubt be blamed in some way for the dog's suffering or at least because they had to put the dog out of its misery. Sorry to bring all the drama into the thread but hopefully this gives a small idea of the drama. And this is but a small amount of what has been said and done to everyone close to my father. Dolomite
  12. I agree shooting them is much more humane than letting them suffer. I have never done that to a family pet and honestly couldn't imagine doing that. I just read the statute and it comes down to the word "justifiable". I agree putting a suffering animal out of its misery would be justifiable but some others may not see it the same way. I think it is cruel allowing the animal to scream like that for as long as it has. The reason I didn't shoot the dog is because I offered them the use of a firearm which they promptly refused. But they called back asking me to come and do it in person. Problem I have is my father has lied to LE in the past trying to get me in trouble, after the investigation LE realized it was all BS. (I have gov't clearances and have a sqeaky clean background). But in this case I go up there, shoot their suffering dog and my father calls LE saying I shot his dog. All the proof would be there and I would be in all kinds of trouble. I mentioned this to my sister, who is the only sane one and is very close to our father, and she said it was a good call on my part for not doing it. Almost like she knew something was up. I still can't wrap my mind around listening to any animal, not jsut a family pet, scream in pain for 24+ hours right outside your house and not doing anything about it. It finally took the threat of LE to get them to do something and it looks liek they took the dog somewhere. Knowing how sick and sadistic my father is the dog is probably on the side of the road somewhere now. Dolomite
  13. Again, my offer stands. If you want help I will be glad to help you out. Dolomite
  14. Great idea. I wrote corporate about a restaurant that was posted. Withing 24 hours the sign was removed because it was not corporate policy to keep those who legally carry out. If every gun owner would notify the restaurant management or their corporate office I am sure they would see the light, maybe not run to it but at least they would see it. Dolomite
  15. You have the barrel extension as a part. Unless the barrel comes already headspaced with the barrel extension installed it isn't that simple. Now if it does come headspaced with the barrel extension installed then yes it is simpler but not as simple as what you are saying. Barrels that do not have the barrel extension installed are not drilled for the gas port nor are they properly headspaced. Drilling the gas port is also a tricky affair, you must drill it the right size for your gas system, it must be drilled straight up and down as well as on top. If you get any of these off the gun will either not run right or the front sight will be canted too far to be zeroed. As far as the YHM barrel coming with the extension it would have said on the website, I would call to confirm. Not trying to sound negative but from the sounds of everything as well as the questions you may have bit off more than you can chew. I am by no means an expert but I have done a lot of AR's and I have yet to install a barrel extension and headspace it. I headspace bolt guns all the time but I don't want to attempt an AR. What parts are you looking to buy from JSG? Might be a better place to get the parts from. Not saying they are bad just that I shop AR prices everyday and tend to know where the deals are. I am in the Knoxville area as well, if you want you can bring everything to my house and I'll help you out. 99% of an AR is simple and can be done easily but the other 1% is what can get you in trouble. 16. My father is such a POS. He has stolen from me and makes my mother pay him for a portion of the bills so she has to keep a job while he sits at home. If she doesn't pay he takes her car keys away and makes her walk the 3 or so miles to work at age 65. He has stood by as my brother assaulted her and then tried to cover for my brother to the cops. It was my father who was making my mother do everything related to the dog in the previous post. Dolomite
  17. Well for the last couple of days my wife and I have heard what sounded like a bear cub. Today it was louder, more grotesque sounding and more frequent. Today it sounded like something was being tortured so I called my mother who lives in the direction of the sound. I was hoping she could tell me if it was between us or somewhere else that way we can figure out what it is and get it help. My mother's response was "oh that is Casey". Casey is their dog of 15 years and yet they are leaving her to die a miserable death. My mother went onto say that Casey's kidneys were failing and that she may have had a stroke. I told my mother she needed to go to a vet. My mother agreed but called me back a few minutes later saying my father wouldn't help and besides the vet was $150. We offered to come get the dog and take it for her. She then called me to ask if I could come kill the dog. I explaned to her that she needed to go to the vet and that it was against the law to shoot pets. She asked who would know but knowing my father hates me and has lied to police in the past I will not go up there much less commit a crime. I told my mother that someone is going to call the cops if something wasn't done. I guess something was because the dog is now silent but not dead according to my sister who called to convince then to take the dog. I am again going to be the bad guy for interfering in their life but if I hear one more peep from the dog I will call the cops. Dolomite
  18. I have never used anything more than a punch, a hammer, some tape and a screw driver to put a rifle together. Yes it is easier with the tools you have listed but they are not required. And yes I have built a lot. Odds are your accurizing wedge will not fit your lower. They are designed for low shelf lowers and I haven't seen a new one for sale in a long, long time. If the lower your are buying is RDIAS ready then the wedge will work, if not then the accuwedge is a waste of money. If you have never built an AR I can say that buying the barrel and extension seperately is asking for problems. The extension is what is used to headspace the gun. And if you are intending on doing that you need headspace gauges, both go and no-go gauges. If you have never built an AR buy the lower then buy a kit from the various vendors on the net like Model 1 sales, M&A Parts, Delton, but avoid Vulcan, Hesse or Blackthorne products kits. From the looks of things you have it covered and I wish you well. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I'll help. Dolomite
  19. I have found that a 9mm will work with a standard AR buffer and spring. And to add to this some guns function better with the heavy buffer. It is all a matter of finding the right ballance. My personal 9mm uses a standard AR buffer and spring and runs great. As far as the hammers go here are the differences if you do not have a ramped bolt. If your bolt is ramped you can use the 223 hammer. Otherwise you will need to swap hammers along with your upper. Dolomite
  20. It could have a ramped bolt. If the 9mm bolt has been ramped it will work with a 223 hammer otherwise you do need a 9mm specific hammer. Another reason to have a ramped bolt is it is less stress on the hammer and trigger pins. The pins can snap if using an unramped bolt with a blowback gun, which the 9mm is. I do believe Spikes Tactical do indeed ramp their bolts. Dolomite
  21. The funds are there. It would be a problem if you didn't actually have the money and trying to float a check expecting the funds. Dolomite
  22. It is legal for an employer to reverse a direct deposit. From a little research on the web the company has 5 days to do a reversal and get a refund from your account. After the five days if they haven't taken the money out of your account they can't get it by reversing the payment. After the five days I would call them and notify them of what has happened. Then when they say they want their money back I would do this. Cut a personal check for the exact amount you were overpaid. Make the check out to your previous employer and mail it to them. Make sure to mail it with a signature required and keep all evidence that you sent it. After that just wait but in the meantime I would put that money into a savings account to try to get interest off of it if you can. When your checking account becomes overdrawn you knw why and just transfer the money out of savings and back into checking to cover the cashed check. I suspect they will cash your check almost immediately but if they never do at least you can prove you tried to do everything to repay them. They can always come after you for that amount later but how much later I am not sure. Dolomite
  23. Something hopefully the LE community realizes is that if the populace ever gets disarmed then LE will be next. This would leave them without the tools needed to protect themselves. Look at England, they were once armed but now the majority of them do not carry firearms. Dolomite
  24. Perhaps you could get into or advertise that you do custom work. In the very distance past I had done custom work for people but nothing like what you do, my medium of choice was wood. As is the case with anything "custom" you can generally charge more. Another added bonus is that you will get swamped with ideas or designs you never would have thought of. Even if you don't do the work for the customer you still have the design. Customers also seem to like the idea of being able to tell their friends that a piece is "custom". Dolomite
  25. I just emailed them a letter. I'll post when I get a response. Dolomite
