  1. Did it include the lower parts kit, specifically the hammer, sear and trigger? If so how does it compare to others? Just curious if they have improved because in the past their lower parts kits have had quality issues. Almost every kit I have seen or talked to people about have had a noticeable decrease in quality when compared to others. (the front of the trigger should have a nice machined surface and the hook on the hammer should also be machined neither should have a "as cast" look to them) Their other parts are good quality so I am not beating them up, just worried about their fire control parts because a failure there can have dire consequences. There are a few people in jail after a part failed and the gun went FA. According to the ATF any gun that fires more than one shot per pull of the trigger, even if it is caused by a failure of a part or a malfunction, is a machine gun. Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com David Olofson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia David Olofson is a prime example, the ATF even stated the gun malfunctioned but not before it fired more than one shot. And now he sits in prison because of a part of the fire control failed. This is the reason I only use known quality fire control parts, they are only $5-$10 more per kit, my freedom is worth more than a few dollars saved. Dolomite
  2. +1 The pawn shops do work with LE regularly to prevent all thefts, not just gun thefts. I would be more worried about buying a firearm from an individual at a show, especially if it seems too good to be true. Pawn shops are reluctant to take in anything that might be stolen because they will be the ones out the money if it is. The bad guy already has his cash and the cops will have the item leaving the pawn shop loosing both. Dolomite
  3. I just put a Marlin 39A on layaway at a local shop. It is in near mint condition and got it for what I would consider a deal. The steel in nice and deep, the wood is still noce but has a few handling marks. It has been shot very little. This was at a shop I hadn't stopped at in a very long time but decided to pop in to check for and Savage bolt guns. Dolomite
  4. Although I didn't keep the gun for my reasons the Taurus 24/7 did have a very easy slide to rack. Every person who held it and racked it said the same thing. Dolomite
  5. As far as accuracy set up targets at 50 yards and shoot. I normally shoot 10 shots and then take out the worst three to remove "me" from the equation. This should give you a good representation of what brand shoots the best for you. Also, I have read that with revolvers accuracy varies between cylinders as well. I saw an article where a tester shot the rounds for each syvlinder into their own target and the groups were substantially smaller than out of all the cylinders into one target. As far as expansion I normally just shoot into water. I use a large trash can, put a bag in it and fill it with water. I stand above the trash can and shoot down into the water. Since the body is mostly water this would give a good representaion for cheap. Ballistics gel would be better but considering the cost involved most don't use it. If you happen to go through the can just use another bag but most handguns aren't going to penetrate the full length of a water filled trash can. For penetration newpaper that has been schreaded and soaked for a few days is a good alternative. By all accounts it gives similar penetration results a balistic gelatin but it isn't as precise. Normally it is precise enough to give an indication of penetration. I have watched dozens of videos using this method and all the results were within and inch or two of the advertised penetration in gel. Take the newspaper and shread it. Then place it in 1 gallon milk jugs. Fill them with water and let them set for 2-3 days. This will allow the paper to soften and swell making it more flesh like. Then line the jugs and line them up one behind the other and shoot them. You could also use just water. It sometimes give decent expansion results as well but I trust pure water to give better indications of how a bullet is going to expand. Dolomite
  6. I am not a deer hunter but it would seem as though if they thought he violated the law he would have been told right there. I would definitely keep my mouth shut and hope for the best. The worst thing you could do is alert someone with questions, it isn't like they are going to believe the "I have a friend that....." story. Dolomite

    5R

Personally I would just buy a regular barrel and put the extra money towards practice ammo or reloading supplies. If the 5R barrels are that much more the I would just purchase a higher end drop in aftermarket barrel which can be had for around $300 +/- $50. You can buy a standard M10 and sell the barrel for $150, this would go a long way towards the purchase of that high end aftermarket barrel. Most shops don't charge a lot for a barrel change on a Savage, my local shop charges $30. They are a lot easier and quicker than a Remington. If you really get into Savages you can do the swaps yourself at home, I can do mine in about 10 minutes. Standard Savage barrels are known for their accuracy. I have several 223's that shoot sub .4" at 100 yards using handloads and sub .75" with factory ammo. The biggest advantage to a barrel upgrade is fouling. Aftermarket barrels tend to foul less and clean easier. With that being said my Savages routinely see hundreds of rounds between cleanings and still shoot great when dirty or copper fouled. As far as twsit goes the standard Savage barrel has a 10 twist which is better for the heavier stuff. 11.25 will work fine but I think that a 10 twist would be better suited for long range shooting. Too much twist isn't a problem with lightweight bullets. I am against too much twist in any caliber. You can see all my previous posts where I am very critical of the faster twist barrels. Dolomite
  8. In the past I have had great luck with Federal Automatch. I say in the past because as of late their consistency has really went down hill. If the gun is a sporter chamber, which I would say yours is, try CCI Subsonic HP's. They have a driving band on the bullet that is a littel taller than a standard round. This allows the bullet to either touch or at least get closer to the rifling when chambered. I have had great success in standard chambers but in most of the match chambered semi autos I won they will not chamber reliably. Recently I have happened on WInchester Subsonic HP's. They are by far the best "budget" ammo I have tried. I have shot several sub 2" groups at 100 yards using this ammo. I suspect if I really try I could get the groups close to 1". I dd some expansion testing in water with them as well. In water they will mushroom to just under 1/2" giving a decent dump of energy for a 22 lr. Here are the results from ammo testing, again in water alone: And finally look at the Winchester 555's. I have shot about 2000 so far and they are very accuracte as well. At $20 a bot of 555 they aren't that expensive either. It seems like everything else that manufacturers of ammunition rotate as to who has the best. As I said Federal used to be the go to maker but as of late it has gone down hill, both match and even with bulk. I have done a lot of testing as well as ways to improve rimfire performance, but that is another story. Dolomite
  9. Just saying if zombie is code for anything it would be a democrat. Based on the description in the video I would say they are one in the same Dolomite
  10. The Zilla brand Lizard Litter Desert Blend is walnut media that is small enough to fall thru the flash hole. It is $10 for 7 pounds at Petsmart. Dolomite
  11. If you are going to be using your magazine then load to magazine length and work on load development. If not then load to the lands. I would start over at the low end of the charges again though. Jumping the bullet is still jumping the bullet, yeah shortening the distance it jumps may help but you are still having the bullet jump. I have found that having the bullets seated at the lands they tend to be more accurate but with that being said all firearms are different. On my Savage if I seat to the lands I would get groups in the .4" range. Now if I took those same exact bullet and seated them to magazine length the groups would open up to .75". Nothing else changed other than seating the bullets deeper in the case. You might try some other bullets as well, maybe your rifle doesn't like the Nosler offerings. Try some Sierra bullets as they tend to be pretty accurate for my needs. Also, .8 inch at 100 yards for a hunting load is going to do all you need it to. .8" at 100 is 1.6" at 200, 2.4" at 300 and 3.2" at 400. By the time you reach that distance wind and other factors such as humidity and temp changes from the day you zeroed are going to variables you need to consider as well. Realistically if you are hitting within 3.2" of your point of aim at 400 yards you are probably going to have a successful kill. Just my thoughts Dolomite
  12. Looks like a decent movie and yes more plausible than most SHTF scenarios. A few months back I actually got worried when there was talk of a large solar flare. I realized it wouldn't be a world wide event but any substantial event anymore sends people into crisis mode. Look at every time there is mention of bad weather, stores sell out of milk, bread and eggs. If anything substantial happened that lasted for more than a few days most people would begin to panic. My biggest fear today is that countries we owe money to will call for all our debts to be paid in full or that we fall behind in our interest payments. And when we can't keep up or pay those same countries, like Japan and China, refuse to export any more goods to our country. Japan tops the list of money owed followed by China. If they refused to sell us anymore goods we would would fall into a nationwide panic because we so accustomed to being able to immediately buy anything we want or need. I would venture to say this would force us into a place we have never been before as a nation. This would lead to wide spread civil unrest and in turn lead to every major city looking like LA during the riots or post Katrina New Orleans. Dolomite
  13. +You need to noramlly tubmel before depriming to clean the cases. If you have crud on your cases it can scratch your dies and ruin them. There are very few ways for the tumbler to clean the primer pockets. Stanless steel media is about the only reliable way. I normally don't worry about cleaning the pockets on pistol brass. On rifle brass I do a lot of prep work that included uniforming the primer pockets so they are clean at least once. I posted it on here a few months ago and others on another board are having great success with it but I added 6mm airsoft BB's to the mix. Seems to work really well even without any type of polish. I have been doing a lot of brass lately and it does make the brass come out cleaner as well as more polished, all without any additives. Dolomite
  14. I think thsi pretty much sums it up! Dolomite
  15. Charlie Rangel is the one responsible for the 1986 machine gun ban. He did a voice vote then declared it passed even though those present said there weren't enough "yeahs" for it to win. Read up on it, he is nothing but scum and one of the many responsible for the country's current state of affairs. Dolomite
  16. Charlie Rangel is the one who called for the vote banning machine guns. He called a voice vote rather than a tallied vote and by all accounts there wern't enough "yeahs" to win but Rangel declared a victory anyways. It was done in the middle of the night and during a voice vote only those who are present can vote. It sounds to me like a backdoor meeting for the purpose of voting but even when it didn't pass Rangel declared a victory. This is the same Charlie Rangle who is being investigated for ethics violations as well as breaking several federal laws. The prices have been disgusting me for a very long time. I was not old enough to purchase machine guns before they were outlawed. I have followed them closely hoping one day to have saved enough to buy anything with a fun switch but have settled into the fact it will never happen. Even today if a repeal of the law banning new machine gun purchases by individuals was brought up all the investors in the NFA market would lobby to prevent its repeal. So now I sit here thinking to myself that I will never have the means to afford one or at least the ability to justify to myself the spending that kind of money. My wife has told me for years to buy one as well as a few other toys but I can't bring myself to it. Andrew Traver, from all the reading I have done, is nothing more than a "yes" man. That is he only thinks what others tell him to. This is going to be a very, very sad day in American history if he does get the nod to take office. He is going to follow the orders given by the gun grabbers currently in office and the systematic disarmament of America will begin. Worst part about it is that most Americans still trust that the government is only doing this to protect ourselves but in fact they are doing it to protect those in office. The democrats are on their way out and they know it so now they are going to spend the next two years exacting their revenge on those Americans who they despise the most. I believe Traver is part of that plan. And the worst part about it is when the government changes hands in a few years most Americans are going to have a hard time noticing that the parties and their agendas have changed. We are at the best point now because at least we are going to have less laws and agendas being passed. I would rather have a congress and senate that does nothing than continue to do what it has been doing which has been passing laws that are not needed. What is needed is to enforce the laws that are already in place rather than make a new set of rules. Most politicians have forgot what their job is and despite what they may think it isn't to get rich using their power or influence, it is to represent those who elected them. Unfortunately nothing is going to change as long as we continue to vote based on party affiliation alone as most of us do. Personally I would love to see the litte "D" or "R" next to a candidate's name go missing for the next election. We are already at a point in this nation where most people are so afraid of their government that they just look the other way as individual rights are being trampled on. These same people are probably thinking to themselves "At least that wasn't me". To those people I say it may not be you now but at some point it will be if nothing is done. Contact info: Bob Corker D.C. office 202-224-3344 Lamar Alexander D.C. office 202-224-4944 Sorry to ramble but I get really upset seeing the nation that I have fought for go to hell in a handbasket. 17. The Korengal is a very, very rough area of Afghanistan. I watched the birds bring in soldiers nearly every day from there. People I knew and talked to were hurt there and some will never be the same both mentally and physically. I can gurantee he deserved it because I know that the fighting was always fierce there. Dolomite
  18. I was watching Hells' Kitchen and one of the chefs, Sabrina, was having trouble making her truffle salad. In steps Trevor to save the day and helps Sabrina get her salad out. That is when the announcer announces that "Trevor has sucessfully tossed Sabrina's salad" I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard. At some point the editors must have heard it before it hitthe air. Dolomite
  19. To confirm what everyone else is saying there is nothing wrong with those cases. I also reload 45 ACP and don't even try to iron out the 1911 dings anymore. As long as the resized case chambers easily I don't worry about it. I have some cases that probably have 10 loadings on them without issue and all have had the dings. Dolomite
  20. This just goes to show that sacrifices that the entire family goes through. Every service member has someone who is missing them. Dolomite
  21. +1 They are nearly all lawyers or goign to school to become lawyers. Dolomite
  22. Like I said I have a quick loader I made but it is big as well finicky. I will look at the older you are talking about but would prefer to have easy to load mags without the use of tools. I am going to make a few of the tactical tampon ones using my older mags to see how they work. Dolomite
  23. The nickel will scratch your dies if it has started peeling. Other than that load like you would any other brass. Dolomite
  24. I have been told the Black DOg mags for a Ciener kit will not fit the S&W but I have also read that S&W mags will work in the Ciener conversions. I have comapred them side by side at a show and they appear to be identical except for a few changes for the S&W's action. I don't expect or want the mags to do anything other than be easier to load. I have considered the "tactical tampon" method where you drill a hole in the bottom of the mag, tie a string to the follower and allow it to hang out of the hole. You pull the string to load the mag and the string climbs back into the action as you fire. The next time you are heading to a range let me know when and where. I can show up whenever is good for you so long as my health permits. Dolomite
  25. The reason I ask is I would like to meet and see if their magazines will work in a Ciener coversion. I have a ton of Black Dog Mags and they run 100% but are a pain to load. I was thinking that if the 15/22 mags work I could start buying those instead. I do have a loader for the Black Dog mags that I made and it works but it can be tempermental. Dolomite
