Tennessee's defiant illegal aliens
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'll throw another perspective into this, my wife. She is not a US citizen but has been here for over 25 years now. The only accent she has is as if she is from up north or at least that is what everyone thinks. It is other than what we speak locally but no indication of where she is from. She speaks better English than most people here and she definitely writes better than most. I did not marry her overseas, she had been here for 5 years when we met and it was hard to tell she was from somewhere else because she had already lost most of her accent. She no doubt worked hard to learn our language, both written and verbal, and become fluent in it. Hell she said she would read children's books when she first came here to learn the language. She is pissed at the illegals but she is even more pissed at those who chose not to even try to learn the language and expect her to learn their's. Some of the worst times I have seen her upset at someone is when she would say something simple in English only to get a blank stare in return. The last time a single word was said, mayonaise. And after receiving nearly everything in the reach of the person she said it to she finally got what she asked for. This is the kind of stuff that upsets her because she knows first hand learning the language we both speak can be done. _________________________________________________________________ Another reason to curb the illegals is for health reasons. Those who come here illegally are not able to be checked for contagious diseases or other ailments. Also, it is those illegals that live in very close proximity to each other and this causes the spreading of some diseases. This is the reason why some airborne diseases like tuberculosisare spreading so rapidly. I can't even fathom the health costs related to treating those who come here with some sort of disease and then there is the additional cost of those who may not have contracted the disease had the illegal not been here in the first place. Tennessee's defiant illegal aliens
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Go back and read the post. No one was wearing a cap, brown. black or white. It was a cap for sale. As far as illegals go they should be deported, along with that any children who were born here to illegal parents. By default the child should take the citizenship of the illegal parents. Now if the immigrant parents are here legally then by all means allow them to stay and the child is an American citizen. We should not reward illegals who are only coming here to have an anchor baby so they can stay. We also need to bill the county of origin for every illegal we have to transport, house feed or heal. Take the money out of the funding that we are no doubt sending them. Once a country looses millions of our suport dollars because they allow their citizens to illegally enter our country they will begin to do something to secure their borders as well. Why should we pay to help their country maintain a certain standard of living only to have their citizens come and bilk our country. Kind of like staying in an apartment and having the landlord pay you for staying there, which is ridiculous. As far as employers go they should also be fined substantially for using illegals. The main reason, in my eyes that is, why nothing is being done is money. Not money being made by the employers but by the federal government. Say we have 1,000,000 illegals here working under false documents. Now do you think those illegals are going to file their income tax returns at the end of the year, I think not. Now imagine each worker would be getting back $500 if they did file. That is $500,000,000 the feds can use without giving back to the states who are having to pay most of the costs related to the support of the illegals. That may not seem like a lot in the scheme of things but it probably is enough to look the other way in some instances. I suspect there are a lot more than 1,000,000 working under false documents and I suspect their refunds are more than $500 but you get the picture. Add to this that any money given by the feds doesn't include the illegals the states are supporting because the illegals are unlikely to take part in any census. Some states end up with a disproportionately large percentage of illegals but do not receive the funding for the additional drain on their services. Dolomite -
It is not the holster's fault. It is not the gun's fault. It is the person who didn't make sure his equipment was in good order. It looks like the holster has been used a lot. I would have removed it from carry duty a long time ago. I admire Glocks but has this been another gun with a safety it likely wouldn't have happened. Dolomite

That loud popping noise was my cherry: first 1911 detail strip
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Handguns
Yeah, especially on a 1911 you should not drop the slide on a loaded round. It definitely causes a lot of stress on the extractor. On some of the pistols with a spring loaded extractor, like a Glock, it isn't really an issue but it will definitely hurt 1911's if done repeatedly. Something else, never release the slide using the slide release on an empty chamber and I think releasing the slide on a loaded round would do the same, maybe without as much vigor but still not good. The process of stripping the round from the mag through loading it is sort of a cushion or buffer if you will that slows the slide down enough to keep it from slamming home with too much force. Releasing the slide using the slide release can cause stress on the link pin as well as the the link itself when dropping the slide on an empty chamber repeatedly. It may not be as much of an issue on know quality guns but some of the budget guns will probably break a link pin, link itself or elongate the link if done a lot. There are some that have said dropping the slide this way can also mess up the sear nose. I don't know because I never drop the slide on an empty chamber using the slide release. Dolomite -

Question about transferring a gun
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If it is YOUR gun that is in Michigan then the next time you visit pick it up and bring it back to Tennessee. Or if your father comes to visit have him bring YOUR firearm to you. After all it is YOUR firearm. If neither one of those things are an option then you are going to have to transfer it through a FFL. The process is simple unless the FFL wants to make it complicated. Basically your father ships the firearm to the FFL here in TN. You go to the FFL and spend 10 minutes doing paperwork. Pay your transfer fees. Wait another 5 minutes for approval. Then walk out with your pistol. The paperwork is less complicated than most job applications. Dolomite -

How exactly did you break the extractor while removing it? I have removed extractors on the magnatude of hundreds of times and never broke one. As a matter of fact every cleaning includes removing the extractor to inspect it. Could just be Taurus quality parts too because I always use quality extractors in my guns. Dolomite -
No as long as it falls under the GCA of 1968. Basically if it is a normal rifle, pistol or shotgun then there are no regulatory requirement to register it. And as I said before there is no legal requirement to affix a serial number to a homebuilt gun. But if you do assign a serial number it is illegal to remove it. This is the reason why you see 80% receivers for sale. They are generally more expensive than a registered receiver. It is the price you pay to own an unregistered firearm. If it falls under NFA then you do need to register it. Actually you need to get approval before building a NFA items, gun or otherwise. Dolomite

I have said it for years, we are at war with China. Mostly economically but in other ways as well. I have been told by reliable sources that Chinese soldiers have been found imbeeded with our enemies in the middle east. Just like we do with our SF troops. China could turn us into a third world **** hole nearly over night. All they would have to do is refuse to sell us their goods. Imagine if 90+% of the items in Walmart weren't there anymore. And not just Walmart but nearly every store has a large percentage of Chinese products. The Chinese are already positioning by working out an agreement with Russia (who definitely want us to fall) to quit using the dollar because the dollar is too unstable. Add this to the fact we are now at a point where we are spending way more than we, as a nation, generate and we are getting closer to a point where China will outlast us if they do decide to quit selling to us. And because China is such a strong force in the market place they could use their influence to have other countries to quit selling to us as well. I believe what stops them from doing it right now is it would shut their country down as well. If they didn't have revenue from our purchases they would also head into economic ruin. But consider that the majority of the China still don't live as well as us they don't have a long way to go and could probably survive a economic meltdown better then us. At some point they will have enough revenue from other sources to be able to cut us off and at that point people here are going to freak. It is when the majority of the "must haves" turn into the "have nots" is when you will see widespread chaos. In the begining it will be looting like in Louisiana right after Katrina. Next will be the slow starvation at the population centers as the food supplies run out. If they do venture out I suspect they will not be meet with open arms as everyone will be feeling the pinch and every extra mouth to feed is more of a burden. Dolomite

To get the extractor out pry it from the rear where the firing pin stop slid into it. It should come out with some resistance. I use a small screwdriver most times but I have used the firing pin in a pinch without issue. As far as selling, if it shoots and you shoot it well keep it and save for your Kimber. When you have enough for the Kimber then buy it but I wouldn't sell the Taurus (I actually don't like Taurus). Then after that use and abuse the Taurus for practice to keep the Kimber in shape. My new project, tensined barrel with muzzle brake
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
I thought about a shroud full of holes like a MG shroud but that would look a bit silly on a bolt gun. The next thought was to seal it then fillit with a liquid of some sort to carry the heat to the sleeve or even setup a jug to cool like the water cooled machine guns. Haven't tried any of the liquid methods yet. Another option might be to machine the barrel with a straight taper then use an aluminum heat sink as a tensioning sleeve. Basically drill the heat sink to the same OD as the barrel, heat it then install it. After that tighten the tensioning nut down as tight as I can get it. The only problem is the galvanic reaction between the aluminum and the carbon steel. I guess I could mitigate that using thermoconductive grease. The reason why it didn't work this time is I didn't have enough tension on it. This same exact barrel has been tensioned before just not with a muzzle brake as the tensioning nut. In its previous version it shot .2's and .3's with regularity using handloads. The previous version was really torqued down while this time is was just a bit more than snug it turns out. -
Have you ever been treated, diagnosed or hospitalized for a mental condition? Even though the records shouldn't be released without your consent it may have been with all of the recent media about Arizona. I have spoke with a veteran who is service connected for PTSD and he is no longer able to purchase firearms. Now I will say he is off, not just a little bit but a lot so it probably is a good thing he can't buy more firearms. Recently discharge from military service? Certain types of discharges can revoke your HCP. Order of protection against you? Even though you may not have been arrested or even aware of it. It is possible for someone to get a temporary order without you knowing about it until you receive the notification of the hearing date. And with your change of address recently it may not have made it to you. An order of protection that was granted, even a temporary one, will do it. Some judges will grant a temporary if asked for one even if there is no evidence to support the need for one. Perhaps a bad break up and the other person is using the courts to get back at you. Please do not take offense to these questions, I am not making accusations. I am just trying to think of some of the reasons you may have had you permit revoked without any idea of reason. Keep us informed. I definitely want to know why. Dolomite

It is the ANP's not the ANA's. And despite the heavy trigger pull they seem to shoot themselves in the ass all the time. Seemed like every week we were hearing of another ANP shooting themselves. I haven't been over there since my helicopter accident in 2008. Before that I would go over there every chance I got. I was doing the high threat security stuff over there when I got hurt. Not the usual State Department gigs you hear so much about but I worked for other clients. It was fun and I really enjoyed it almost like I was an adrenalin junky. My last trip I averaged getting attacked every 4 days. Now I might go a week without anything happening then get into it a few times in a single day. Most of the stuff I dealt with was the indirect fire from the katusa rockets or mortars. I have been in the north eastern areas as well as the south eastern areas. I didn't matter what area I was in the level of activity was always pretty high. It is amazing how many bad guys there really are in Afghanistan, especially in the regions that border Pakistan. There definitely is more to do there now than in Iraq. I would tell who ever I worked for don't even ask me to go to Iraq. Not that it is any more dangerous than Afghanistan, because it isn't, but because I believe that we shouldn't be in Iraq. Dolomite

The S&W SW9VES, which is the new "enhanced" Sigma, is a decent weapon. The trigger is heavy when compared to most others, including Glock. I bought one for my wife about 10 years ago and she really liked it. It was very reliable as well as being accurate. It has one of the best feeling grips of any handgun I have carried or shot. Most of the Sigma hating is from the early models but the newer ones are just fine. They even issue them to Afghan police which says a lot because they are destructive. The Sigma is not a Glock but I do believe for the money you can't go wrong with the new Sigma pistols. I am not sure but the Sigma grip felt thinner than the Glock. I know the Sigma's grip feels a lot better than the Glock's. Dolomite

An EMP bomb could turn the country into a third world **** hole over night if the effects lasted. People have gotten so addicted to modern appliances (including me) that any wide spread interuption would cause people to loose their minds. Also, we would loose our ability to maintain the supply and demand we need now. If people loss just the use of their cell phones and Walmart decided to shut it's doors all in the same day people would loose their minds and think it is the end of the world. Another thing to consider is this. There are 5,000+ aircraft in the air over the US at any given time. An EMP would cause these planes to literally fall from the sky, killing hundreds of thousands in a matter of minutes. For me I couldn't imagine anything scarier than seeing dozens of planes just fall from the skies. Now consider that people would be in the dark regarding the cause this would only strengthen the fears. This puts the destruction it would cause into perspective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTsKtE73QUo As far as a delivery vehicle there are probably easier and less expensive ways to get one into the air than through the use of a military delivery vehicle. Although not ideal it would still be effective. I can tell you from experience that the government was testing the effects of EMP type devices back in the 90's. I was stationed at a base that had a large testing facility and part of it was used to determine the extent of damage a EMP bomb would cause. Not really sure of the outcome of the testing back then but I would hope there would have been some advances since then. What do you know, here is a video of the test facility: HowStuffWorks Videos "ElectroMagnetic Pulse Bomb" This is only a small portion of the test facility. Dolomite

My new project, tensined barrel with muzzle brake
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns

My new project, tensined barrel with muzzle brake
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
Just shot some groups and they were erratic so I took the tube off. Groups tightened right up. I suspect there wasn't enough tension on the barrel or at least it acted like it. This same barrel was tensioned before when it shot the .2"-.3" groups on several occasions. Going from a 26" barrel to a 18" barrel cost me ~260 fps and now is 2694 average. Going to have to rethink the idea for now and probably put the heavy barrel back on for now. At least it will mitigate the recoil even though it is heavy. Dolomite -
My new project, tensined barrel with muzzle brake
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
There is another guy on another board that came up with the idea right after I posted my initial one. He now produces them but has some flaws because I didn't get into great detail with him. I have zero intentions of doing this commercially. I can't do it physically and probably not mentally. I just do my crazy projects to see if it is possible. Dolomite -
And the bad guy will usually pass out from fear but not before crapping themselves. I carried a 9mm for a long time and never felt under gunned. I carry a 1911 now but not becaues of the round but becaues of the platform. I originally looked for a 1911 in 9mm but settled on a 45 because it met my needs. Make sure you use quality ammo and shoot often. Practice will help you more than swapping out to a bigger caliber. Dolomite

My new project, tensined barrel with muzzle brake
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Long Guns
The barrel runs approximately .5" at the muzzle and tapers up to .87" at the shoulder for the sleeve to rest on. The shoulder is the same OD as the sleeve at 1". The wall thickness is .065 on the tube that is 304 stainless. The amount of tension may change some with heat but in all the others I have done I have never noticed a change in groups unless the sleeve works loose and you will see a dramatic change. If I ever run into the rpoblem of it working loose I will just heat the barrel more next time. I have done this to 223 rem, 308 win, and a 7.62x25 tok that was designed and built to shoot subsonics. I have also done rimfires as well. Most of the previous ones were done before my helicopter accident. Since the accident something that might have taken a day before now takes weeks because I can't do anywhere near as much as before and absolutely any physical activity at all puts me in bed for a few days. The biggest reason for doing this with a muzzle brake is I wanted a lightweight, light kicking rifle. It weighs 8.6 pounds compared to the 14+ when it wore the bull barrel. It may only be a 223 but with my injuries even recoil from a 223 causes me problems. I do have a very accurate AR that also wears a brake but I wanted something unique. It will be interesting to see what the velocity will be with teh 18" barrel compared to the 26" that was on there. The tensioned one is a 9 twist and the 26" one was a 7 twist. Dolomite -
Here are some pictures of a newly completed project. This is a Stevens 200, same as a Savage except it comes without a Accutrigger. It has a Sharp Shooter Competition trigger. It sits in a Stockade PDS/T stock. The gun was put together a long time ago, before my accident, but I decided I no longer wanted the heavy 26" bull on it because it was heavy. It has bolt lift kit to ease the heavy bolt, longer bolt handle to help out as well. The bolt has been completely been gone through and had everything cleaned up internally. Firing pin protrusion set to .040". Now the interesting part, the barrel. The barrel started out life as a sporter weight barrel. I had it machined concentric to the bore to a thinner profile. I had the muzzle threaded 1/2-28 as well. I had a shoulder machined at the chamber end. This is for the tensioning (SS) tube to ride on. The stainless tube is over the the pencil thin barrel. The muzzle brake has a shoulder machined on it as well for the tensioning tube to ride on. To install you machine the tensioning sleeve so it is just long enough that the brake is about a 1/4-1/2 turn away from where you want it to index when the barrel is cold. Next take a torch and heat the barrel, not the tube. Not red hot or hot enough to cause the steel to change but hot enough that you can't touch it. This causes the barrel to lengthen enough that you can tighten the brake down to the point where you can index it where you want it. After the barrel cools it tries to shrink back down again but can't because of the tensioning sleeve. All of his puts a fair amount of tension on the barrel as well as locking the muzzle brake in place. It is this tension that seems to help the thin barrels. There are a number of advantages of using a tensioned setup. First is it eleminates any heat related drift. I have had a number of guns with thin barrels that had a heat related drift and in every one having it tensioned solved it. Second the pencil or sporter weight barrels seem to be more rigid and as such seem to be more tolerant of various ammo types. It is the barrel whip that causes some barrels to be finicky about the ammo they like. And finally weight, with all the advantages of a heavy barrel this barrel weighs less than half of a comparable heavy bull barrel. In a previous version this same barrel has shot .2's-.3's with handloads it liked. There is one disadvantage ot this setup. It is heat build up. The tube doesn't allow heat to dissipate as fast and if heat builds up too much the sleeve can loosen. I have never had one shoot loose unless you shoot it enough to get the barrel hotter than when the sleeve was installed which should not happen under normal conditions. You will see the groups go to hell if the sleeve starts to come loose. Dolomite

And just to reiterate. A GCA (not NFA) firearm that is not made by a licensed manufacturer is not required to have a serial number. And up until 1968 serial numbers were not required by manufacturers. It is not against the law to make a firearm without a serial number. It is against the law to obliterate or make unledgible a serial number once it has been applied to a firearm. If you build the gun yourself you do not need to assign a serial number. A FFL can accept a firearm without a serial number providing the firearm never had one. Seems there is a local FFL that does not know this. No I am not going to tell but I will not spend any money there and will wave off all my friends from spending there money there. Seems like FFL's would know the law but some don't and it will cost them business. Dolomite

Also, if you are justified to pull a gun then you are justified to shoot. Now whether you choose to shoot or not is another thing. You can't go around pulling a gun to prevent confrontations unless the confrontation is life threatening in which case dealy force would be justified. Even though it appears as though the blacks (actually a single black man) were the aggressors in the beginning the whites had an opportunity to retreat but did not. The white women even became aggressive at a point when everything seemed to be calming down. You even hear several blacks saying to just go inside which would have been the smart thing to do. And the black guy in the black shirt was even helping the white kid. Considering the white women became the primary aggressor I would have considered the reaction the black women had to be reasonable. The white women came up to the the black women in an aggressive manner and the white women did get beat but it wasn't excessive or extended. Had they continued to beat the white women after she was obviously was incapacitated then stopping it some how would have been the right thing to do. If I had some crazy drunk person come up to me and my family acting as though they were going to attack my response would probably be similar. Now at the end it appeared a bit over the top with 5-6 on the man and 2 on the women. That would have been the only time I personally would have interferred but only if it continued and didn't end so quickly. I don't see myself being in a situation where I would see something similar to that happening. And as 6.8 siad anyone who is in a situation like that would be stupid to stick around especailly if you are the minority. The majority of what happened was caused by the white women and her inability to shut her mouth. Would you be justified in pulling a gun? I would say probably so based solely on the video because of the amount of people involved in the beating. But to me no one was is immediate danger of being killed so I probably would have not got involved based on what I saw in the video. But as I said had the beatings continued then yes I would think the use of deadly force would be justified if you thought someone was going to be seriously injured or killed. Something else, had someone been shot or killed on behalf of the whites how do you think the witnesses would have sided? Dolomite
