Who elses property taxes/appraisal went up?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I would love to see a two fold increase in sales tax in lieu of any property taxes. That way those who use the services of the state also contribute. It will make those who do not pay property taxes be held accountable for their share of state programs as well. After all it is those who do not own property who probably use the lion’s share of the services that my taxes go to support. Dolomite -
As I said before we had reliable reports he was dead back in 2006. It was said he contracted typhoid and had died. I am suspicious that the "raid" may be being used as a ratings booster. Knowing that the odds are he is already dead why not lay claim to it and reap the rewards. Also knowing you can hide the footage citing "national security" then claiming he was buried at sea so you don;t have to produce a body. It isn't that hard to determine if someone is dead by listening to "chatter". Before death a lot of chatter about OBL, after his death not so much. Or perhaps a sharp down turn in communications directed at OBL. It is this chatter we rely upon for a lot of our intelligence gathering. Think about it this way, chatter as normal in channels used by bad guys then there is a spike in the word "airport". At that point we know something is brewing involving airports. Same thing can be said for OBL's possible death in 2006. Chatter as normal then "OBL is dead" or chatter does the opposite and drops off about OBL because his people know he is dead. Same way a killer calls his victim over and over again before they kill them then after the victim's death the killer no longer calls because he knows his victim is dead and can't answer the phone. Or if you know someone is dead how often do you try to contact them, by however means, after they are dead? Doesn't happen. I am not saying he isn't dead. I am just saying he may have been dead long before any of this took place. The pictures of all of them sitting around could have been them all wathcin America's Funniest Home Videos. After all it is number one show on Sundays according to ratings. Dolomite

Curious as to why my county feels that my house is worth 13% more this year than last year when almost every house across the nation lost value. Especially when I have made absolutely no upgrades. Called and spoke to a state assessor who said I had an upgrade of central heat and air in 2006 and that was the reason for the increase even though it has been on my tax records since that year. I was explaining to him that there was no way a supposed upgrade done 5 years ago that was 2.5% of the value of the home raised the actual value 13%. His reponse to my rebuff "quit being a smarty pants". I also explained to him my place hasn't sold or even had an offer when my asking price was 15% under their appraised value. His response was that in order for them to know the proper appraisal value of my house I have to sell my house first. Then he can determine the actual value. It all seems kind of crazy. I have letters ready to go out next week if they don't seem to get the fact everyone's house values have tanked. Dolomite

Power Drop Variations - New Reloader
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Also, put a baffle in the powder measure. Otherwise you will get variations between a full hopper and and low hopper. It is generally accepted that you need to run at least one hopper full of powder to coat its internals otherwise static electricity can cause variations as well. Dolomite -
Realized that after posting. Dolomite

Figure out what the primary wepon you will be working on, in this case it sounds like a Glock. It doesn't need anythng other than a punch to disassemble it. Then figure out what parts you would need to do routine fixes. The department should be covering all repairs so I am not sure why you would need to fix their weapons. Brownells is a good place for tools and parts. Dolomite

PM me the source please if you don't want to post it. 69 SMK's is all I use and would like to find a comparable bullet for less. Dolomite

There are photos available now of his dead face. Looks like him. Dolomite

My wife has one I built her. It gets shot every time we have people over. It is a used and abused gun that has been very reliable. We have to have at least 7,000 rounds through her 9mm AR. Dolomite

With the minimal pressures of these loads I wouldn't worry about needing a scale. Find something that can measure a small amount uniformly and use it. I actually used a 3/16th bit driver as a measuring cup rather than weigh each load. All the bee loads sounded and acted the same for me. As far as a cheap way to remove a primer use a small nail. Place the case over a hole that is small enough that the case doesn't fall through but large enough for the spent primer to drop through. Place the nail on the primer from the inside then smack it with a hammer to knock it out. After that just use a bench vice to seat the new primer. Make sure to wear glasses in case one goes off, very unlikely. I used this same method before I ever got any equipment to make some blackpowder loads for a single action in 38 special my father had. I found that there is no need to size the cases. Dolomite

Hell, I got confused and posted in a couple of threads and thought they were the same thread. Dolomite

I suspect it took longer to get the sample to a lab than the testing itself. I take everything with a grain of salt. As Reagan said "trust but verify" and am waitin for anything other than the word of someone who has a propensity to tell tales. Dolomite

And to add fuel to the fire. The DNA matches him as well as his 49 other siblings. It was known that he has travelled with members of his family. I hope the burial at sea is BS to prevent any possible attempts to free him and that we have his live ass in custody. That way we can put him to death on national television. I am not saying it is a conspiracy. I am just saying that it is odd that after you have caught the most sought after person in the world why would you worry about religious ceremonies and bury him at sea within 24 hours. I do know their religion requires them to be buried rather quickly but I wonder if he was facing Mecca at the time of his burial which is also required. Conspiracies are hard to hide when a lot of people are involved and when something actually did happen. Much harder to hide when fewer people are involved or if nothing happened. Imagine if it never happened and all the news getting reported came from the White House press office. Try to find someone to say that it did happen (when it didn't) is harder than finding someone to say it didn't happen (when it did). I hope at some point video and pictures are released. Also, every member on the raid will have the opportunity for a book deal so after they exit the service they will be writing books. Dolomite

+1,000 Now I am getting ready to start carrying a 9mm again but saying it is the same as a 45 ACP is crazy. Compare the two links: terminal 45 acp terminal 9mm luger In a quick look it appears that the 45 ACP expands to a larger diameter almost every time when compared to 9mm. 9mm is not going to expand to the same OD as a 45 ACP, not possible. The larger the hole the more likely you are to hit something vital. Take Federal HST, in 45 ACP it expanded to .987". Same bullet in 9mm expanded to .629". Hardly the same. Now I wouldn't want to be hit with a 9mm but it is hardly the same as 45 ACP. I have been hit with a 45 ACP. It wasn't instant incapacitation as some think but then again it was a leg shot also. Think of rice as 00 buck, not as much in there but definitely more "knockdown". With Wanut media you get more of a chance of hitting but the hit might not be lethal like rice. Also, a 357 would be great because of the case length. You can get a lot of media or rice in there. I was using 9mm and getting decent results but I had to be close up because there isn't enough media to reach out. Or even better yet a 44 SPC, 44 MAG or 45 LC. Thread coming soon: "What is best for bee defense, walnut or rice?" or the ever popular "9mm vs 45ACP vs 357 for bees?" Dolomite

And think about this. Imagine if, for whatever reason he wasn't killed, this could be used for his as well as his cause's benefit. All the media coverage that he was killed and that we confirmed it before throwing his body into the sea. Then he shows up in a video or even in person saying he was in fact killed by the infidels but later rose from the sea alive. This would make every muslim in the world a follower of his and he would be a god in their eyes. He could command the muslim masses to do his bidding and most probably would. After all he rose from the dead and only gods do that. I know it is a bit far fetched. Imagine the implications if he is in fact still alive. Dolomite

Quote from the link above. Usama Bin Laden Killed in Firefight With U.S. Special Ops Team in Pakistan - FoxNews.com He will never be seen if this is true. Now this is getting fishier by the minute. We find and kill the guy we have been searching for for close to a decade and then they dump him over the side into the ocean. He should be paraded for all to see but mostly for his followers to see. After reading this I am calling BS. I bet within a week there will be a tape released by OBL saying "haha". This sounds like a scheme to improve BHO's ratings at a time when they are the lowest they have been and his birth certificate issues are coming under more scrutiny. By the time we all figure out it was a ruse he will be in office for another 4 years. Dolomite

Doesn't matter to them. Men are for fun, women are for babies. Pakistan is a long time stronghold for the bad guys. They live in the border regions and the Pakistan government allows them to live and operate with impunity so long as they do not attack Pakistan. Quetta, Pakistan is well over 75% bad guys or those who support the bad guys. I can tell you for a fact that most attacks along the border region originate in Pakistan. That is also where the bad guys retreat to once the mission is done. There are even Pakistan government forces (border patrol) that launch attacks against coalition forces regularly. In Pakistan's defense though, the border is so porous that is would be easy for OBL to cross into Pakistan without them knowing. As far as OBL dead, I say good. Problem I have is I had been told a number of years ago they suspected he was already dead. Word around the campfire is he had died after contracting typhoid. It seemed plausible because all the recorded messages since were generic and could have been made all in a single day. I would love to see OBL displayed the same way they displayed Hussein's sons, on national television for all to see. Then take his body, hang it high on the White House lawn for all to see and televise it as it is sprayed with pig's blood. Then have Obama announce this is how all muslims who attack us will meet their end. (A person could only wish) Dolomite

Halls also sells reloading supplies. Plenty of powder, bullets and generally primers. They haven't received any primers since moving into the new store though. They have the best price on powders anywhere in town although the selection is sparse, luckily they stock my go to powder for my rifles. That is where I buy my SMK's at. Dolomite

Every brand name maker uses MIM now as well as the budget guns. Colt, Kimber, Springfield, STI, Para and several others have gone to MIM. It is a sign of the times and because it is new it must be bad. Now granted I replaced all the MIM parts in my personal gun but that wasn't because they were bad. I am not a Taurus fan boy but there are enough good ones out there that your experience is not the norm. Dolomite

I would make sure you have a rifle length barrel sitting around for the rifle stock. If you only have the Charger and a rifle stock you could get yourself into some trouble with the ATF. It is unlikely they would ever find out unless you posted it somewhere on the internet about putting a Charger in a rifle stock. Yes it is ILLEGAL to put the Charger, which is classified as a pistol, in a rifle stock unless you swap in a barrel 16" or longer. It is perfectly legal to take a pistol receiver and convert it to a rifle so long as the 16" barrel as well as the 26" overall lengths are met. Dolomite

There definitely more to it than what is reported. We are assuming the cop is telling the truth. Witness accounts debunk his story about him identifying himself. I honestly don't believe he did. What I do believe is the officer's actions scared the guy to a point he was trying to retreat to his house. Think about this, When you are in a life threatening situation one of the senses you loose is hearing. The guy sees an unidentified male (officer) coming at him with a gun. Adrenaline kicks in and shuts the guys sense of hearing down. At that point the officer may or may not be identifying himself but the guy doesn't hear it because adrenaline shut his sense of hearing down. All the guy knows is there is some unidentified male coming after him with a gun so he tries to retreat to his house, his safe area. At some point the guy may point his gun at the unidentified male to disuade him from following, even that I am not buying. At that point the officer feels threatened and fires. The officer is justified in shooting but again the guy is also justified in pointing. It will all boil down to whether the officer identified himself. If he did and it can be proven he is in the right. If he didn't then the guy did nothing wrong other than trying to protect himself from an unidentified male with a gun. We are used to a relatively low crime rate down here but in some of the bigger cities it is a crime wave and people are worried about getting robbed or killed. I can understand trying to get inside if someone you don't know or recognize is coming at you, especially if the officer had already drawn his gun and was approaching. If an off duty officer, who hasn't identified himself and I don't know, points a gun at me there will be a fight but unfortunately I will lose whether I was justified or not. As far as the officer leaving the scene it could have been so he could get his radio, hard to say. Seems to me he should have maintained control of the crime scene and never left. Having the girlfriend follow him tells a lot of his training as well. Having the neighbor take the guy to the hospital also says a lot about the officer. First and formost is the officer's safety then after that first aid for anyone who may need it. Just my thoughts on this Dolomite

You are thinking of fiber optic used in telecommunications and such. They are hollow with a coating on the outside to keep the light in as well as light out. And this type of fiber optic does not collect ambient light. The type used on firearms draws light along the length of the fiber then projects the collected light out the ends. Otherwise the light generated would be no more than ambient. I think if I try coating just the bottom of the fiber and leave the top facing portion alone it might work without affecting daytime performance. The paint is pretty thin so it may not even affect day time performance anyways. Dolomite

I have a little over $600 in my Metro Arms, $475 purchase price and replacement of all the MIM internals, barrel bushing and trigger. I would put it against any sub $1,000 factory gun as far as accuracy and reliability goes. I have well over 1,000 trouble free rounds through it. It is more accurate than the Colt I recently sold. New it had a better frame to slide fit than most brand names you could buy 20 years ago. My only complaint about the MA is the bluing is a bit thin. To fix this I media blasted it and blued it. I seems less prone to the shiny spots it normally get. The budget guns are no longer guns to be avoided. It allows people to own and shoot decent quality guns that couldn't before. It also allows people to modify or alter their guns without fear of ruining the value of an rare or expensive guns. Dolomite

I know it is a sentimental piece and you say you would never sell it but I would leave it as it is right now. By changing or refinishing it you are going to destroy both the looks as well as any value it may have for your kids or grandkids. Imagine taking this $500+ gun and spending another $200 and end up with a $150 gun. It just doesn't make sense. If you want a chromed gun then sell this pistol and buy one. By chroming it you are destroying a piece of your family history as well as history itself. After all this may have been used in WWII and your grandfather brought it back. Dolomite
