  1. And it ins't considered a theft until they leave the store. Kind of a catch 22. It is sad and a law should be passed that if you are injured while commiting a crime you have no legal right to sue for damages. Then inform security or whoever that once a shoplifter leaves with the merchandise beat the crap out of them and leave them on the corner for the ambulance/cops. Dolomite
  2. Are you wanting both front and rear tritiums or just front? Personally I like tritium on the front and non illuminated on the rear. You should be focusing on the fronts anyways at SD ranges. Dolomite
  3. Try contacting the manufacturer and see what they say. Worst case scenario is they can say NO and you are out a 3 minute phone call. After that I would recommend Predator Custom Shop. They have done a lot of work for me over the last 6 years and all of it has been great as well as reasonable. The next best thing is your stuff will be done quickly. Even custom builds are weeks and months ahead of anybody else. Dolomite
  4. Parker and Sons (formerly The Pit) out on Strawberry Plains Pike. About halfway between Asheville Highway and AJ Highway. He is only open a few hours on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the time by appointment only. He has been doing bluing longer than anyone probably within 100 miles of Knoxville. I can remember going there as a kid over 30 years ago. Be prepared to wait as the last time I was in there he had at least 6 months of work ahead of a guy dropping of a gun. He is well worth the wait though. 5. One of the two ways I would consider is a side mount, if you have one. The other would be the mount that replaces the rear sight. Here is the sight mount: Samson AK-47 Rear Sight Rail : Samson Manufacturing It would make it hard to mount anything other than a red dot, pistol scope or a long eye relief scope. Any of which would wring out the accuracy of an AK. They do make some covers that can be teightened down using set screws and such but every time you take it apart to clean it the zero is going to shift. ALso, they are not even close to being cheap because the only ones I have seen have been milled covers. With the side mount or the sight mount you will not have that problem. If you are only looking to mount a red dot you might be able to get a railed top handguard that works well enough for a red dot. Those can be had for a lot less money than either a quality side mount or the sight mount. Dolomite
  6. Now that is some funny stuff right there. I had the same devastation a few days ago during a midnight wind gust. Dolomite
  7. Not really sure but being water based a soak overnight should break it down. I would be willing to bet hydrogen peroxide will also break it down. I am going to use it to clean the lead out of my can rather than take it apart all the time. I found a place that will take the lead acetate by product otherwise I never would use hydrogen peroxide to clean it. Lead acetate is some bad stuff. It is very carcinogenic and is readily accepted through the skin. It also passes through the blood brain barrier. Definitely going to have to use full precautions when dealing with it but cleaing out lead can't be any easier. Cleaning the lead is probably going to be a twice a yer job. Dolomite
  8. I get the discount theough Brownells but Midway USA is even cheaper 75% of the time. The key to Midway is do a search for "Midway USA coupon code". They have codes almost ever month and with the codes Midway is generally cheaper. And that is without the FFL discount at Midway. It might be worth it for me to get a C&R license just for the savings as I order a lot. Dolomite
  9. So I went out and bought a quart of this stuff after hearing how well it works. It has been the best $6 I have spent yet. It works as well as water, stays put and lasts much longer. No misting or steaming like with water either. I put about a 1-2 second squeeze down the muzzle end then give it a blow to clear the bullet path. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much so when I fired the first shot it amazed me. What little report there was before is now gone. It is quieter than a nail gun or even a pellet gun. In a bolt gun the bullet hitting dirt 25 yards away is louder. It also helps tame high velocity ammo out of my wife's Ruger with a threaded Pac-Lite. Before you could hear a slight difference between high velocity and subsonics but with the gel they sound the same. I will say make sure to buy the clear. The yellow type seems to cause problems with suppressors.. Just thought I would pass it on to the other suppressor owners out there. The gell is worth the $6 if you are looking for the ultimate in quiet. Dolomite
  10. Please explain the adjustment of an AK firing pin. Never knew they were adjustable. I will admit I am not th expert with AK's some people are. I have been around a lot of AK's during my time overseas but never heard of adjusting a firing pin. I would try US made ammo to rule out ammo. If it is still doing the same thing then I would give it a good cleaning, especially the bolt. Try soaking it in carb cleaner, kerosene or fuel treatment over night then spray it out with non-chlorinated brake cleaner. If that doesn't correct it I would try a new hammer spring. After that I would have a smith check headspace. The chamber may be out of spec enough to allow the cartridge to move forward as it is struck and cushion the strike enough to cause a misfire. 11. I have had miserable luck with Botach. Now I will give them the benefit of the doubt because mine was a number of years ago. First was an order for a holster and a few other items. Got billed for the items, received an email comfirming my order. Next day received an order stating the items had shipped. Two weeks later no items. I called and was told the items had been out of stock for a while. I asked about the shipping emails and was told they were automatically generated after the order was placed even if the items weren't in stock. I asked for a refund, had to call another number and wait a week for a refund. Second time I was ordering tactical pants. I called to verify they were in stock. I had to call the warehouse to verify. I called and spoke to a supervisor who assured me that my size was in stock. While on the phone I submitted the order online. A week later I hadn't received the items so I called again. Was told that the pants had been out of stock for over 6 months. I asked about a refund expecting it to have billed already but they hadn't which was good. After these two instances I was going to wave them off but ordered one more time. I ordered some in stock items, according to their website. Then got an email stating the items were not in stock and unkown when they would arrive. I called and cancelled the order. They do have some amazing deals from time to time but I got tired of placing an order then getting the big let down when the items never arrived. Dolomite

  13. What caliber(s)? I have reloaded 223, 9mm, 45 ACP, 38 Special and 7.62x25 Tokarev. The only time I have used new brass was for my 223. I did a lot of research and the best "cheap" brass to buy is Winchester. I have shot thousands of reloads using fired R-P brass without issue as well. The weakest is Federal. It tends to be weak in the primer pockets and will loosen after only a few loadings. As far as 223 range pickups go I would be careful. I also ask the shooter if he reloads and if I can pick up the brass. If he does reload but says I can have the brass I walk away because he has used it to a point he no longer wants it. If they don't reload I will grab it up with their persission of course. If the brass is just there for the taking I would but scrutinized what I have picked up. I have also loaded steel cased 223. It works better than 223 until it rusts then it is useless to me. The steel cases stuff doesn;t grow and once trimmed I had 8 loadings on it without the need for another trim. But as I said rust is your enemy and the steel they use is prone to rust very quickly. One more thing with 223 brass. Check online for case capacity or at a minimum work up loads for different brands of brass. What works well in a R-P brass might cause issues in LC brass because of the reduced capacity of the LC brass. The LC brass is thicker, making it stronger but the reduced capacity can create pressure issues that weren't there with other types of brass. With pistol calibers it isn't as important to be selective. The brass from most pistol calibers will get lost or damaged on the range before they wear out. As other have said don't worry about picking up aluminum cases. Steel cases are fine if they are boxer primed and NOT rusty. Nickel cases are the only cases that can cause serious issues as they age. The nickel will crack and flake, when this happens it will scratch your dies as you size them. And when the dies get scratched every case after that will have a nice gouge running down the side. Some of the hardest brass cased stuff I have ever had was Sellier&Bellot. It would barely get back to useable size as well as the primer pockets being extremely tight. I guess they would be good for those pushing the limits but for me it wasn't worth all the extra effort. Dolomite
  14. Here is the same gun for $419 shipped. EAA 999175 WITNESS 9MM/22LR COMBO BL $419.00 SHIPS FREE They will charge a 3% CC fee and then you have to work out the transfer and TICS. Should still be less than $470 total out the door. That is about the same as buying local. Dolomite
  15. I'll add a nother postive user of the Witness line. I have owned several, a couple in 9mm and one in 45. All have been more accurate than I can shoot. I will say you are making the right choice with a steel framed Witness. I have held a number of the polymer guns and they just don't feel as nice as the steel guns. Dolomite
  16. Glad you are. YHM makes some amazing stuff and I have owned my fair share of their products but for me I was looking at the most suppression. That is where the YHM rimfire cans don't do as well as others. I do not have first hand experience with various cans including the YHM offerings. What I needed to do, like a lot of us out there, is read through a lot of reviews and make a choice. I have read every review I could over the last few years and in nearly every one of the YHM rimfire cans have been in the bottom half of the sound suppression spectrum. One of the biggest resources is silencer research and I even paid for a few years of memberships there to make sure I was well informed. I also called various makers, asked a lot of questions about their offerings and how they compared to others. I will say this, almost every maker tests their own way to enhance their can's abilities. This is where independents like silencer research come in. He uses the same method (a milspec standard BTW) for every single test he does. This ensures all the cans at least start out on an even playing field. The only variables are the exteranls like weather conditions. I did a lot of research into different designs. In the end I built my own and I would venture to say it is as good as most cans on the market now. It also combines the ability to take it apart (which is a must with a heavily used rimfire) as well as full stainless construction. My can is a bigger and heavier can than a rimfire needs to be but it will last a lifetime and I will say it is likely FA capable as well. I am not saying the YHM rimfire cans are bad, just saying they aren't the best. In the list I have compiled, that lists at least 30 different makes and models of rimfire suppressors, YHM cans make up two of the last three in the list. In the end I am glad you like your YHM and please don't take it as anything personal because it isn't. I was just stating that the YHM rimfire cans are some of the louder cans on the market based on my research. Dolomite
  17. Plus you can't count on the good guy being dressed nicely or the bad guy being dressed badly. There have been a lot of cases of road rage in which the assailant wasn't your typical thug. Dolomite
  18. If you are wanting a 22 can avoid the YHM offerings. They are some of the louder cans on the market. Dolomite
  19. + 1 a billion. The cost of oil and gas has nothing to do with actual costs it has to do with people trying to make money. Water is the next big commodity that is going to be managed just like oil. It already is in some places. There is plenty of governmental agencies that can use their authority to influence the sale of water. Hell, we are already seeing it everyday. Government offices declaring well water unsafe and forcing homeowners to use city water, which for most people is worse than most well water. Or like what has happened in India. A Coca Cola water bottling plant has taken so much water that the ground wells are dry. The locals are forced to buy their water from the plant now. And the thing with water is people can't live without it like they can with oil. Dolomite
  20. I wonder if anyone knows anything about the rebel leader? I would hate to think we helped overthrow Qaddafi only to have an even crazier or radical person take over. Sometimes it is best to leave things be rather than open a box without knowing the contents. We will no doubt thow money at the new leader in hopes he will be our friend. We removed Saddam and now we are into Iraq for billions and will be there for decades. Although he was a bad, bad man why do we, as a nation, feel the need to police the world. I wouldn't be so upset except it is the taxpayers that are footing the bill. In Iraq we are funding most of what is going on there while they continue to sell oil and fill their nation's coffers. 21. That is crazy. So basically any vehicle made before their epic bailout is free from any obligation by GM to be repaired. I wonder how that would affect recall items or even warranties. If they are able to wash their hands to some of the claims it would make sense they could do the same to all. Dolomite
  22. I walked aroud and got disgusted with most of the dealers prices. One dealer had an older Savage iwth a sctratched up synthetic stock and finish wear. No scope with a $900 price tag. Said it was a Tactical Savage but I guess he doesn't realize brand new the exact same gun is under $700. I was on the hunt for a Taurus for my wife and found a nice used one unfortunately the asking price $425. I can get the same gun new through Bud's for $322. Even the new ones were over $450 then with tax and TICS I am looking at over $500. The same gun through Bud's would have cost me $362 out the door. This is why I will not buy from local dealers anymore and only use them for transfers. Hell if they want to compete why not just buy from Bud's, add 10% and make a killing with quantity. There were a few deals to be had though. Found an Anschutz bolt gun for $160 but unfortunately I am already neck deep in bolt guns and don't really want to buy it to resell. It is about 1/2 what it should be worth. There was also a Savage 30-06 bolt action that was marked $325 so the private seller would probably come down a little more. It would make a nice SHTF rifle. I may head back today to pick up some rimfire ammo. I especially don't like the Expo Center shows anymore. The security steals people's ammo by taking it without due process through the courts. I have spoke to the Knox County DA's office and they said the security at the Expo Center are breaking the law by seizing private property without authority to do so. They can ask you to leave, ask you to put it away or bar you from entering but they cannot take your ammo. Expo Center policy doesn't trump law and one's private property cannot be taken by another private party without a court order. It is the same as if I posted a sign at the end of my driveway that says no $20 bills on the property. And when someone comes on my property with a $20 in their wallet I seize it. Private property is private property regardless as to whether it is ammo or anything else. And private property cannot be taken without due process. Again, they are breaking the law and it is only a matter of time. Dolomite
  23. If anyone is a knife expert is is OhShoot. With that being said I sharpen knives and have for at least 20 years. I have tried all the different contraptions to get a knife as sharp as possible. I have tried ceramic and diamond stones but I find myself coming back to doing it by hand on a soft Japanese water stone. Ceramics and diamond stones tend to be a little to aggressive for my personal liking. I now use the cermaic stones to flatten the Japanese stones as they get a dip in them during use. They sell nice stones at Woodcraft on Kingston Pike. They will cost anywhere from $30-$80 depending on the stone. You can definitely tell the feel of a quality stone over a cheaper one. I generally use a 800/4000 stone for most of sharpening. If it is a knife that sees heavy use I just use the 800 side but on most of my knives I also use the 4000 to polish the edge some. Using only the 800 side leaves a rougher edge, like micro serrations, that makes cutting through materials easier. Believe it or not buy you can sharpen and polish a knife to such a sharp edge that it will not cut such things as rope. It is so smooth it just rides on the polished blade without cutting. I almost always have a stone in my vehicle and find myself sharpening knives a few times a week for friends. I have a stone sitting next to the kitchen sink to touch up the edge on every kitchen knife before I use them. I know I have done hundreds and probably over a thousand knives in that 20 years. It is something I do to sit and relax. As far as angle goes I honestly don't know. I know what seems to works the best and I have done it often enough that it is easy for me to maintain that angle. 24. How you carry yourself can prevent becoming a victim more so than carrying a firearm afteralla criminal probably won;t know you are carrying until you have to use it. Something else, I have spoke to a lot of criminals over the years while in LE. And almost all of them said they would look for those who weren't confident or aware. In this case acting like a victim will probably make you a victim at some point. Dolomite
