  1. I haggle all the time. As a matter of fact if I am spending more than $100 anywhere I talk to the manager. The results? I have been given disounts at Home Depot when asking the maanger if they can drop the price down. This is on top of the 10% I already get on a regular basis. And yes Lowes will do the same thing if you tell them Home Depot will. As far as Buds goes there is a specific person I will deal with there since I have had problems in the past. And that person generally gives a discount as well. Not much but 5% on a $500 gun is a box of ammo. Or the other thing they have done is overnight the firearm. Even at Walmart you would be surprised what the managers can do for you if you ask. And I am not talking scratch and dent items either. It seems as though gun dealers are the only ones with no wiggle room. There are plenty of other business' out there that probably have better profit margins than what the dealers are screaming about all the time. A hotdog stand probably has better profit margins than what the dealers are claiming. Dolomite
  2. We all hear them, those WTF were you thinking stories that are so ridiculous they are funny. A few of my most memorable ones. "The 17HMR has a velocity of over 5,000 fps and when you hit a groundhog the only thing left is his teeth." "Open your mouth when shooting a 50 BMG otherwise it will collapse your lungs" "The green tips on those bullets is phosphorus and the friction from the air makes them glow like tracers" "LC brass is the best brass they make because they are made right here in Tennessee in Lenoir City" Dolomite
  3. I can, and do, break down my wife's Ruger 22/45 in a matter of seconds. I can easily get it back together in under 30 seconds as well. My wife can do the same but maybe not as quickly. They are just as easy as most others once you have done it a few times. I consider the Ruger easier to disassemble and reassemble than a 1911 or my Taurus 24/7. Dolomite
  4. Funny thing is we will probably be wearing yellow stars before red ones because of who we owe. So who speaks Mandarin? Dolomite
  5. I had nothing but problems with my 22A. Never made it through a single mag without a failure. I tried every kind of ammo with the same results. It was the first .22 that I have ever had or even seen that fails with CCI ammo. Dolomite
  6. Try to find a used Ruger MKII over a MKIII. The magazine disconnect on the new models drove me crazy. I eventually swapped in MKII parts to eliminate it. Any way you shake it a steel gun is better than an aluminum and an all steel MKII should be pretty easy to find for $250. Dolomite
  7. I have seen some absolutely crazy used gun prices mostly by local dealers. This weekend I saw a heavily used Taurus for $480. The same gun I can buy new for $362 out the door through Buds, that includes the transfer and the TICS for $362. Saw a very well used 10/22 for $450. Another dealer had a used Sigma with a $350 price tag on it. We offered $250 because we bought a NEW one that morning for $300 out the door from a local dealer. Dealer wouldn't even counter offer, just said no. And finally I saw a Keltec PMR-30 at a show, held it and thought it might be nice to have. That was until I saw the price tag, it was either $579 or $549 don't remember exactly. That dealer is a prominent dealer at all the shows and I have told no less than a dozen friends to avoid purchasing from him. I watched a dealer buy a pistol I was going to offer to buy from the guy. The guy wanted $250 which was fair. The dealer paid the guy $150 then put a tag on it for $300. I stood there the entire time then asked the dealer if he would come down and he said he had $300 in it and that I could buy it with no tax or TICS for that. The most disturbing part of dealing with the dealers is most will not even entertain an offer less than what is on the tag on used guns. I have asked if they would take less only to have them laugh or just ignore me. I am not going to spend more for a used gun than it costs me for same gun new. I am all about supporting the local guys but I will not hand them $200 more just to say I bought local. I have tried to deal with nearly every dealer at the shows at some point over the last 2 years. After trying to deal with the same dealers during the show this weekend I have swore off supporting all but only one or two local dealers. If they can't compete then they need to go under, end of story. The complain they don't make any money yet they choose to overpay their distributors. They can be competetive but they choose not to. And if they got screwed it is on them they shouldn't get mad when I won't let them screw me. Dolomite
  8. I believe it has very little to do with money for most of them. It has to do with power, control and respect. Now ultimately it might lead to more money in their pockets but for most they have plenty so that isn't their primary concern. I think if they had to choose between having control or making money 9 out of 10 would choose to control. We are their to support their agendas for power, nothing more. They make backroom deals for power and we the citizens foot the bill. We, as a country, are in dire straights. Most people in the country have had to cut back as well as suffer substantial loses. Yet our controllers don't feel they have to suffer the same fate. I would also bet a lot of them do not see themselves as our representatives. They see themselves as someone who is there to control us. Almost all the laws they introduce or pass has more to do with controlling the masses than helping the country. And yes, removing the guns from the populace is nothing more than a way to ensure they control us. First they control us by passing laws making our 2nd ammendment rights illegal. After the guns are gone they will use their own guns to control us. And all of it will be for one purpose, to increase the power, control and respect of those who have turned us into subjects. This is the exact samre reason we fought the revolutionary war 200+ years ago. Dolomite
  9. Same for hurricanes Rita and Katrina. The devastation I saw was unimaginable. What stood out to me more than anything else was that the damage was so random. One house would be virtually unscathed while next door was a concrete slab where a house once stood. One of the most memorable things I saw was a concrete slab with the pipes sticking out and not much else, that is except for the perfectly intact toilet in the middle of the slab. It made no sense to me how a house could be destroyed yet a fragile toilet remained. Something else that was odd was seeing a boat, a large boat, miles from the nearest body of water. Dolomite
  10. Talking about media hype. A few years ago I watched a local television reporter as she commented on the effects of a hurricane on the local weather. She was dressed up in a rain slicker type overcoat even though it wasn't raining. She stood there in a braced position as if she was fighting the wind. She even acted as though the strong gusts of wind were moving her from side to side. Seemed realistic enough until they zoomed in on the wind meter she was holding. It was reading 3mph-5mph winds. At that point I just laughed and changed the channel. Dolomite
  11. It may be a civil rights issue. Not really sure if a private party can violate the civil rights of another private party. it would seem so but don't recall any cases. If it is possible then the Expo Center has, without a doubt, violated the 5th Ammendment of the Constitution. It says in part "nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law". If that is the case then they can be sued for violating the civil rights of another as well as being sued in civil court for damages as well as court costs. The Expo Center as well as their security are considered private parties, same as you and I. They cannot take (steal) private property from another without due process regardless of what they think or what rules they make up. In the same way we cannot take the property of the Expo Center or their security based on a rule we make. I would love nothing more than to walk around with a sign that says "No $20 bills within 100 feet" then take every $20 bill I could find. Actually I wouldn't but it is the same only what is being taken is different. I have stood by an watched people have their ammunition stolen. As a private party they can only ask you to leave the property or ask you to secure the property elsewhere. They cannot take your private property without giving you the opportunity to get it back. As I have said before I have spoke to the DA's office for Knox County. They agreed that the security guards, acting as an agent of the Expo Center, are breaking the law by taking private property and not returning it. They went on to say that at a minimum they are committing a theft. They also recommended to sue in civil court for their loss as well as court costs. I didn't sue because I was made whole, by way of cash money, after the Expo Security stole from me. And I bet if RK Show had to start paying everyone for their losses, like they did me, they would demand a change to the rules. I just hate the fact that everyone who has lost ammunition have not been made whole. Rex, the show promoter, is more than willing to give cash to anyone who has lost ammunition to the Expo Center security. All you have to do is call him and the enxt show you will be handed cash as well as free admittance for you and your friends. Dolomite
  12. I am not surprized there wasn't a run on milk, bread and eggs down here over the hurricane fears. Seems like every "emergency" people buy the most perishable items they can. Dolomite
  13. They, the mall ninja security services, steal ammo at the Expo Center. Dolomite
  14. Nearly all the same dealers you find at the Expo Center and Chilhowee. Only real difference is the "junk" dealers weren't present. Not deals to be found by me. Found a used Taurus that was missing finish and was very abused. This is the one like my wife wants but the dealer was asking $480. I can get the same gun for $362 out the door elsewhere. Found another dealer selling a really rough Broomhandle Mauser but I don't have the cash this week so I asked for a way to contact him next week to buy it. He said he didn't want that so I guess I won't be buying it. Used Ruger 10/22's for $450. Used Sigma S&W for $350 firm. They can be had for $299 new at every other show. For me the $3 spent to get int was a waste as was the 45 minute drive to get there. Hate to be negative but it seems like no one checks around and then prices accordingly. $480 for a used Taurus is absolutely ridiculous. Dolomite
  15. Seems as though they are expecting the worse. They have shut down all subways. They are calling for storm surge in the 8-10 foot range along with 6-12 inches of rain during the same time period. The storm surge is expected during high tide only making matters worse. If it is as bad as they seem to think it is going to be NYC might be shut down for a little while. This might be a window into how the country will react to a major catastrophe or collapse of the country as we know it. Wonder if we are going to see similar widespread looting like in New Orleans after Rita/Katrina? I am also curious how the government reacts as far as restrictions on citizens or martial law. they already have miserable gun laws so I don't think this is going to affect those that much, at least not for law abiding citizens. 16. I am wondering what will happen to the officer? After all he fired on suspects that were alrady in a vehicle and fleeing the scene. Had he hit or even killed one he would be on the hook for some serious charges. After the robbery had already taken place he had no recourse because you can't use deadly force to defend property. Even if, and that is a BIG "if", they did have a weapon it was no longer being used to threaten the officer if the suspects were fleeing the scene. I suspect that they didn't have a gun as he reported because the Union County officer was at the crash scene when KPD arrived. This meant he must have been in visual contact up until the time of the crash. Seems to me if there was in fact a gun it would be somewhere between the scene of the robbery and the crash scene which would make it easy to find. Here is how I see it happening: Union County officer calls for a couple of hookers. The girls show up with a male driver and the girls go up to the room to take care of "business". After the "deed" the girls grab the guys wallet, probably while he is still at least partially naked, and run. How else could a girl outrun a male officer? He throws on enough clothes to give chase but by this time the girls are already in the vehicle and leaving the scene. Officer shoots at fleeing suspects in an attempt to get his wallet back. Car crashes and the officer secures the scene. I bet he had an "OH CRAP!!!", pucker moment when what he did set in. Any way you shake it the officer shot at a vehicle as it was fleeing. The only way I could see this being justified is if the officer was attempting to block the vehicle but the location of the bullet holes will show that. There are a lot of unasnwered questions that will likely remain unaswered. Like what was he doing with two women in a West Knoxville hotel. Especially when they were being picked up by a male, probably a pimp. What happened to the suspect's gun? Suspects are going to say no gun was used and plea out to lesser charges. Officer will back at work within a week with Union county. They did confiscate the officer's vehicle as well and it will be interesting to see what is found in the vehicle. Dolomite
  17. I nap nearly every day. Nothing wrong with a mid afternoon nap, especially during a good rain. Dolomite
  18. Zombieland Not a movie but Walking Dead is good as well. I like Resident Evil, all of them. Dolomite
  19. It generally is for work like this. The rotoary table has stops in it for the various degrees of turn based on how many LPI's and depth of cut. That way the cuts are evenly spaced and of a uniform depth. This way above my skill level. I stand around and watch machinists in amazement in what they can do. In these days of CNC everything there is some sort of nostalgic wonder that goes into work like this. Nothing like old school craftsmanship that is going to be lost soon in the sea of CNC machines and programmers. You can't find many stock makers these days or at least those that do it full time. People don't wan't to pay for the time or effort that goes into taking a quality peice of walnut and turning it into a beautiful piece of art. Dolomite
  20. I don't believe it is he accepts their use of guns. It is that he is able to say he has help free oppressive people across the globe. To his supporters helping the oppressed outweighs their hatred of guns. We are going to see a lot of gun banning craziness come November. If Obama doesn't get elected he will try to do it as a last FU to the nation. If he wins he will do it as well but it will be more drawn out. He definitely has a plan it is just a matter of time before it starts. Our only hope is the Democrats do not gain control of Congress again. If that happens we are going to be getting screwed on numerous fronts. It all comes down to the lesser of all evils. Nearly all politicians are lying crooks and their only goal is control. Why else would a person spend millions of dollars on an election campaign when the winning salary couldn't pay it back in a lifetime(Jon Corzine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). It is all about control and backroom deals. Both sides do it and there is no end in sight. Dolomite
  21. I would think one of the your stray bullets hitting an innocent could feasibly result in these: Now a decent DA would probably charge the bad guy with the killing but a stray bullet that kills another could also result in a charge. Dolomite
  22. We run a red dot on my wife's 9mm AR. Everybody who shoots it likes the setup. We did have irons on it and people didn't seem Timmons those as much. Might get the red dot and then find a dedicated grenade sight. I know they now have some with picatinny rails so you could QD the red dot and swap between the two as needed. Dolomite
  23. We definitely need more info. Can't second guess an officer without seeing and especially hearing what he heard. Him being a veteran has nothing to do with what is being reported. The shooting before has no bearing on this unless the same officers are involved in both. If that was the case the media would be all over that fact. Dolomite
  24. The forms section could be for other than firearms. Explosives, DD's, Importation and Exportation as well as a myriad of other reasons to file with the ATF other than NFA "weapons". The bell curve one is for firearms alone. The fireams are roughly 8x as much as the forms for other reasons. Dolomite
  25. I see this all the time as well. I see people grab a big bag of weighables (if that is a word) then eat half the bag before checkout. I have even tried to explain to people but they don't get it saying it isn't stealing because they are paying for it. I saw a guy two days ago grab a piece of fruit and eat it. He noticed that I saw him but it didn't faze him. It is amazing how often this goes on. Every trip to the store I see empty soda cans or other empty packages. I have rarely seen people walk in with an item. This only tells me people are doing what is described above, consuming products while in the store. My local store doesn't even prosecute caught shoplifters. He tells them to put the items back and never do it again. Problem with that is it only empowers them to do it more. Another more disturbing thing is when you think about where some shoplifters hide their loot, down their pants. I know of one person who was caught stealing from my local store who has a very serious staph infection with oozing postules all over his body, he also has Hepatitus. The steaks he stole were under his clothes against his skin where he has these postules. When he got caught those packages were put back on the shelf for other customers to grab or take home without knowing. Hepatitus can stay active well beyond the time it would take for the steaks to sell or go bad. The store owner refuses to prosecute saying it costs him too much because in most cases the local court requires witnesses to be present or they will dismiss the charges. So, according to him, by the time he pays for the witness's salary and the salary of their in store replacement it costs way more than the product that was stolen. He rarely even calls the cops. The problem is that we are such a litigious society. Like I said before there should be a law that if you get hurt during the commission of a crime you have no recourse. I also believe there should be some standardized form of corporal punishment because jail is too easy as it is. Perhaps, after they have been convicted and while in jail a random weekly tazing while you serve or probations consists of a weekly tazing as well. Tazing has been proven safe for the most part and when people feel the pain of what they have done it might make them think. And before someone screams it is too much think about this, it isn't that hard to stay out of trouble. And if you stay out of jail you avoid the punishment. Afterall millions of people do it everyday. Dolomite
