On top of that they had "Reservation Rewards" that you signed up to automatically when placing an online order. CTD denied it but the rewards company confirmed their association with CTD. It was a $10 a month fee that took me almost a year to figure out. When confronted CTD told me I should have opted out at the time of purchase. Even if they do I do not see the verdicts coming out differently. They will all be found guilty again. Hopefully though the sentences will be harsher. I generally feel that spending your life in prison is a more punishing sentence. Hopefully those who were given less than that would find themselves in prison for life. I know it costs more but it is also more punishing because they will be speding every day of their life wondering if this is the day a little jailhouse justice would be done. Although life may seem easy for them in prison it is still harsh. Although they may be provided with most amenities they still have to contend with the jailhouse conflicts and the often brutal means in which arguments are settled. They will no longer be able to touch a women and in some cases live a life as someone's bitch. I can't imagine a more brutal punishment than being raped nearly every day of your life. But even knowing this I would go a lot farther to make the punishment even harsher. First I would do like we did for inmates that throw their food. Blend all their food up in a blender, add flour and bake it into a large bisquit. When I say blend I mean their meats, veggies, fruits, desserts and drinks all together into a slush then add enough flour to bake it. We did this quite regularly and it did influence an inmates behavior when they got into the second or third week of eating tasteless bisquits. It also prevented officers from being coated with the inmates meal. It provides all the nutrition needed but still punishes them. They should not be allowed any visits with anyone other than their attorneys. Most attorneys will not risk bringing in contraband like the family of the inmate will. No calls to anyone, ever. If they need to contact their attorney they can use the pad of paper, pencil and envelope we provide to contact them because there are no emergencies in a legal system that takes years to decide a case. No television, no radios, no cigarettes, no commissary or anything else that provides them with some enjoyment. No outside recreation and any recreation is limited to a maximum of 1 hour outside the cell per day. During that time they also take their showers. One more thing I would have like to see is anytime an inmate is being removed from their cell a hood or helmet that prevents them from seeing be placed over their head. This would eliminate a lot of injuries to officers because an inmate can't fight when he can't see. It would also prevent inmates from knowing the layout of the institution and forming an escape plan. It would also prevent jailhouse communications by both voice as well as written means. It would prevent the passing of contraband between inmates as well. No more time off for good behavior just punish them harshly for bad behavior. Criminals today know that their time in jail is going to be an easy road if, and that is a big if, that actually do any time. The criminals need to feel some discomfort or they will continue to break the law. I know these things would never happen but I can hope. Dolomite

One thing that is amazing is one of the workers in the sporting goods section of this Walmart comes across as a staunch anti gunner. I have spoke to him on several occassions. I was there when he has said hollow points are only good for killing and maiming and that they shouldn't be sold. He also said a 45 auto shouldn't be in the hands of civillians because it is such a destructive caliber. I am sure his views have cost the store some sales. Dolomite

If you must buy from Walmart go back through this thread and find the cheapest Walmart price. Then let the store you are buying from know the price and the store for the lower price. They may not match competitors but they will match other Walmart stores. I seriously think you would get a comparable product for a lot less buying from a local shop. I actually suspect the quotas were not to reduce crime but to ensure future funding. The departments can go to the feds and say they need additional funding because the crimes rates are so high or because of trends when it may not be true. I have seen that as well in my time. Classifying a crime in a different category to tweak the stats for extra funding. If they are already receiving the max funding for one area of crime they will try to classify the same crime into another area that isn't receing 100% funding yet. Like taking a ring of bicycle thieves and classifying them into organized crime, gang related crimes or something else. And then when the feds expect to see results from the money they gave the departments they will tweak the numbers again to give the illusion the extra money solved more cases. Like solving cases, without a trial, based on a conviction of a person who committed similar crimes. What is surprizing is making arrests because of quotas would not show any trends if crime is either increasing or decreasing. If they have to make say 1,000 arrests a month regardless of actual crimes it would be hard to tell if crime is actually declining. I have worked under quotas before but they were contact quotas not arrest quotas. I never liked quotas because every day, week or even month can be different. Summer months tend to be more active months. And the time of the month tends to have trends on what crimes are bing committed. We would see more DUI's at the begining of the month and more domestics at the end of the month. It is all a numbers game. The police are saying crime is up to get more funding, the mayor will say crime is down to get reelected. The DA will claim a 100% conviction rate on those arrests but never mentions those include pleas. Even if a murderer pleas out and receives no jail time it is still a conviction for the DA. I would rather see a DA without a 100% conviction rate because that shows he is not accepting pleas to boost his conviction rate. Dolomite

I have found some extra FPS and lower SD with Wolf SRM primers. As long as you aren'nt into your max already you should be good. Using SRM's with 24.5 grains of Varget, which is a very low powered load, I am getting ~2950 fps using 69 SMK's out of a 26" barrel. I was loading right up against my lands and getting decent results. Same everything except using CCI 400's results in velocities in the ~2750 fps range. One day I was working up some loads and had miserable results so I decided to try some rounds for my AR which were loaded to mag length. The groups dropped substantially. Before I was getting a best of sub .4" groups and the new groups are sub .25". My velocity dropped to ~2850 with the jump. Not saying it will be the same for you but I didn't change any load data other then the primers and got tighter groups and faster fps. Using the 2950 load I can get to 800 before dropping below the sound barrier. With the 2850 load I can get to 775 before dropping below the speed of sound. It also depends on the weather conditions. Those numbers are what came out of my ballistics program that so far has been right on the money as long as my human error in inputing info is correct. This is also with a put together Savage. Actually a Stevens 200 with all the usual mods. I used to have a 550 yard range to use until there was a mix up between the owner and a few of us. Now I don't have access to a long enough range to stretch it. Because of that I do a lot of rimfire shooting at up to 200 yards. BTW Mike, is that the upper you got during our conversations? Every Savage 223 I have measured is good to go with 5.56 as well. Not saying all are but the ones I have measured have been 100% long enough for 5.56. Dolomite

I would recommend a Metro before a RIA. I have held and shot both and my Metro shoots better than the Colt I had. I carry mine every day and have wel over 1,000 trouble free rounds through it. Dolomite

+1 Savages used to be a great value but they have been creeping up in price over the years. Most new Savages are goig to cost more than their Remington counterparts. For this reason I have been looking real hard at Remingtons lately. The biggest seller for me is there are now aftermarket Remington barrels that use the barrel nut setup like a Savage. They run about $300 but you get a match barrel and that cost is exactly the same as one for a Savage. That way I can do caliber swaps just like with a Savage providing the bolt heads are the same because a Remingtons bolt head isn;t swapable like on a Savage. Dolomite

If you are wanting something tactical or may want to go that way in the future then look at the Remingtons or even the Savages. Both have a ton of aftermarket support in the way of stocks, triggers and other gear. I personally like Savages because they are easy to work on. There is no need to have a gunsmith swap barrels or calibers. I swap my barrels in about 10 minutes and can do a complete swap of calibers in under 20 minutes. For a Remington you are talking a lot more down time on a lathe. Even most factory take off Remington barrels need to have the headspace set on a lathe. The reason Savages don't is because they use a barrel nut to lock the headspace in while the Remingtons use a shoulder on the barrel itself. The first time I had a smith swap a Savage barrel is cost me $30 and that was about 4 years ago. Swapping a barrel on a Remington cost a couple of hundred dollars at the same smith. The tools to do your own swap are a $25 wrench and a set of headspace gauges. I set headspace using brass I have sized.I tighten the Savage barrel donw onto the sized brass until snug then lock the headspace in using the barrel nut. You can't do that with a Remington. It makes the brass last longer because it is the minimum headspace for what you are shooting. Dolomite

+1 There are trainers out there that have nothing more than a bunch of classes under their belt. They have found a way to market themselves into a job. Although having a bunch of clases is not bad there are other factors that cannot come out during training. Winning a fight requires a certain mindset and those who have not actually been in a conflict only have the mindset they think they have. Training can help nurture the fighting mindset but it will be more than just training that determines your actual mindset. And you want to learn from someone who has a proven fighting mindset. Training is as much about learning skills as it is getting the correct mindset to win a fight. There is no way to tell what your mindset will really be until you are faced with a conflict but training can help minimize a negative reaction to conflict. Training can help with the "freeze" or "deer in headlights" that most get when confronted with their very first conflict. And over time dealing with conflict and overcoming fears becomes easier. Almost like becoming desensitized to what is happening. I have known people who swore up and down they had experience as well as the fighting mindset. Some of those people literally curled up in a ball, eyes closed, crying when a conflict arose while others remained as calm as sitting, watching television in their home. It is the quiet professionals who tend to remain calm while those who brag tend to get excited. Most LE as well as most MIL have been in conflicts that most others will not have to endure. That is why I would do as TMF 18B said and research the instructors. You want someone teaching you who has been in conflict and is still here, not some guy who had to endure all his training. The cheaper scopes of today use inferior adheasives. A lot of them are not purged which causes problems. The adjustments are "close enough" but not precise enough to be dialing in elevation over and over again. The lenses get semared with grease as they ar assembled. If you want a cheap, dependable scope then hit the gun shows. There are always vendors who are selling used scopes. They will almost always say where they are made, if they don't then do not buy them. What you are looking for is any scope that is made in Japan. Japanese Tasco's were considered some of the best a few decades ago and cost a lot. Nowadays you can find those same scopes for $20 or more but no where near the cost of a comparable quality modern scope. And most dealers just see them as a cheap Tasco and price them accordingly. One more thing. If you are buying a used scope do not buy it with the rings. The rings are often times put on the scope to hide flaws. Whether it be scratches or rings marks. If they do want to sell them with rings make sure to remove them to inspect the scope. I bet most dealers will tell you they don;t have the tools to remove the rings or do not want you to. I check all the scopes I see that are not obviously Chinese junk. And in most cases I can get a quality scope for little money. For a hunting rifle you don;t need any of the fancy knobs or the tactical reticles. Just buy a simple duplex reticle to save money. I will say that 3-9 scopes tend to be the cheapest on the used scope market. Hope this helps. Dolomite

I recently had a chance to run some rounds through one of these as well. It feels and handles like the MP5's I used while overseas. The trigger seems to be about the same feeling as well. It was 100% reliable with every type of ammo I tried, subsonic, bulk as well as quality stuff. The magazines worked well but the rounds would sometimes get off center and protrude out the windows in the side. The one I shot was the SD version. And as I said it felt the same with the weights being very, very close if my memory serves me well. Overall I really liked it and it is much better than the GSG versions. Dolomite

I agree. We should take all of the funding we send outside of the US and bring it back home. Don't send our enemies money in hopes they will someday like us because it will never happen. And when we quit sending them money they will hate us even more. A lot of countries in the world give us lip service so we will help them financially while citizens in our country suffer with poverty, starvation and malnutrition. And then there is the education system that is failing our next generation. The only money they should get from us is for goods and services but not as free money, better known as aid. As we have seen here with our own welfare system when you hand out money for free there is no incentive to improve your situation. I guarantee most countries that receive a substantial amount of aid from us would find a way to make money if we quit funding their existence. We need not worry about getting involved with every little conflict in the world. All we need to do is support those who have proven to be our allies with action and not just words. And even in that case limit it to the type of help that doesn't involve sending our citizens to give their lives for another country. Send them equipment or even help with some monetary funding but none of our citizens. We need to pull out of the middle east now. Take those soldiers and start a rotation on our southern border to sure it up more. Start a rotation of 6 months on the border and 1 year at home with their families. And for every illegal that is caught we need to take the cost of transporting, housing and feeding them as well as a hefty fine from the funding their nation receives. After those nations start seeing their funding dwindling away they will take a more proactive approach. There are roughly 67,500 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan alone. There are a lot more in the region to support them though and those same soldeirs can be used to support the border deployments. Taking the 67,500 number and dividing it by 3 gives 22,500 troops per rotation on the border. That works out to 11 soldiers per mile on the border with Mexico. And that gets our men and women home on US soil protecting US citizens. We had one of the best and largest manufacturing bases in the world in this country. But we have regulated most companies to a point where moving overseas was the most cost effective way to do business. We need to get back to being the innovators and manufacturers we once were rather than subcontract it out to third world countries. Dolomite

We have a GE gsl25jfpabs refrigerator. It quit cooling over the weekend last week. Called a repairman on Monday and he came out within a few hours. The control board had burned through the plastic insulator and grounded itself, ruining the board. We had the board replaced by the repairman. We previously had the refrigerator side set to 7 and the freezer side set about on 4. The higher the number the cooler it is. We like our freezer a bit warm so the icecream isn't rock hard but like our drinks really cold. After the repair he set the freezer and regrigerator thermostats both on 5. I gave it a couple of days then turned the refrigerator side down a few clicks because the stuff in there didn't seem like it was cold enough. It sat for another day but with no change. The freezer is cold and seems to be changing but the refrigerator side isn't. The repairman said I had a 90 day warranty on parts and labor. I called him this morning to tell him the refrigerator side wasn't cool at all. I also told him that because it wasn't cool I had turned it down some to get the refrigerator side cooler. His response was put them both back on 5. He said he didn't know why they put the thermostats on it because they don't control anything. I know the thermostats worked before but now he is saying I have to leave the temps on 5 or the refrigerator won't work anymore. Even though my wife thinks his repair price was fair, I think he charged too much. Considering all he did was replace the control board what would you as a repairman have charged? In the mid 70's I do remember causing a little bit of a stir when I wanted to carry my toy hand grenade onto the plane. The grenade was one of those you could sit a paper cap in and when you released the lever the cap popped. I was probably 6 or 7 at the time and it was part of a package deal. I had the cap grenade, a cap pistol, a belt, a plastic knife and a holster. They were only concerned with was the hand grenade. Once the grenade was put in the luggage all was fine and we entered the plane with my holsted gun and plastic knife hanging around my waist. That brings back some memories. I can remember the caps would always fall out of the grenade so I would lick the cap so it would stick. It worked fine unless the spit soaked through the cap. As long as I did it quickly I wouldn't have any duds. It is amazing they can't make some sort of industrial adhesive from kids spit because I used it to keep all kinds of things in place. Hell, I was one of those crazy kids that would try anything. Probably the reason I am the way I am but I can remember how the caps tasted as a kid when I would try to pop them between my teeth but they would just rip apart. Or how about sitting on the sidewalk with a roll and a rock. Sometimes I would get lucky and be able to use my father's hammer but most times it was with a rock.
