Ok I did some testing today here are the results: All velocities are in FPS with the chronograph at 10 feet. Temperature is 40 F. It is clear with little wind. Round: Aguila SSS 60 grain Low: 686 High: 704 Avg: 698 ES: 17.7 SD: 8.12 Reliable Energy: 65 Note: The velocity is comaprable to that in the video above to the performance should be similar. The video shows 9" of penetration. Round: Winchester "333" 36 grain HP (same as "555") Low: 815 High: 899 Avg: 844 ES: 83.6 SD: 34.1 Reliable Energy: 57 Round: CCI Minimag 40 grain solid Low: 815 High: 846 Avg: 832 ES: 31.3 SD:15.3 Reliable Energy: 61 Round: Remington Subsonic 40 grain HP Low: 469 High: 646 Avg: 548 ES: 177 SD: 77.9 Reliable Energy: 27 Round: Winchester Expediter 32 grain HP Low: 892 High: 909 Avg: 901 ES: 16.9 SD: 8.54 Unreliable Energy: 58 Note: The listed velocity is 1640 FPS but it needs a long barrel to do this. I have tested this round in rifle length barrels and it does get into the 1600 FPS range. But out of short barrels it is a lot of smoke and blast. Based on energy alone the SS has the others beat. It also tumbles creating a larger wound channel. Now 22 lr is hardly a defensice round in my eyes but it is better than nothing and can be effective if loaded correctly. I do plan on chronographing some Velocitors out of this little pistol. They might prove to more effective although the SSS bullet tumbling is going to create a much larger wound channel. Dolomite

Maybe it isn't too late for them and they can turn their lives around to become productive citizens. Based on their appologetic statements I think it might be just what they needed. I also wish more people would become involved or at least aware of their surroundings. People today don't want to get involved and that has allowed the criminals flourish. I will, without a doubt get involved, by either being a good witness or actively preventing a crime. My wife and I have told our neighbors that we will keep an eye out on their property when they are gone. I have made phone calls to them when suspicious vehicles are in the driveway. One neighbor is gone for days on end leaving his wife alone at home. We have told them both that if anything happens call the police then call me and we will come right over. I have no problem protecting a yound mother and her child. I hate thieves more than anything else. They take away more than just the items they steal, they take away your feeling of safety and security. You can't use deadly force to protect property. Dolomite

If you can post a picture of the inside of your receiver it would be easy to tell if it is a single or a two stage. I have used this method before and it seems like the standard that a lot of smiths use. About 1/2 the time using this method you also have to tweak your disconnect by removing material from the hook. And that often leaves it with very little engagement to hold the hammer back. It is a very, very fine line between safe and unsafe. And when tolerances stack against you it can be impssible to have a realiable trigger using this method. Yes you can have a slightly nicer trigger but at the cost of a gun that might double as time goes on. I found a better method that feels just as good, requires no "tweaking" of the disconnect, and it is reliable even with high round counts. But as I said I will not discuss it here. The Giessle triggers have several models. The ones he has are the military models that are non adjustable. The reason? Because every "Joe" out there would be adjusting their own triggers in the field. These triggers are in issued guns being used overseas. The do make a fully adjustable one. And while they are not Giessle for the money the improvement kits can't be beat. Coffee drinkers spend more a week on their coffee and readers of newspapers spend more a week on their papers. Hard to beat a safe, relaible, trigger upgrade for the cost. Dolomite

Mike has it in hand and he knows how or if it can help him, but I suspect it can. It does help RRA two stage triggers as well as most other two stage triggers. If you have trigger movement when your gun is on safe the kits will improve your trigger. I would like to know what AR has a trigger bar? I know there is no such thing in a factory trigger. There are only 3 parts to a AR trigger and none of them are called a bar. Tweaking trigger, or finishing them as you say, is not something everybody can or is willing to do. Each gun is different so you can't make a universal statement on how someone can do it. The kit removes ALL pre travel in a factory trigger. On top of that you are right in that there are other things that can be done to get the trigger down below 3 pounds and reliable with everything, including hard primers. For those who are only going to fire commercial ammo it is possible to have a 2 pound trigger that is 100% reliable. (I have a very, very light trigger that is well below 2 pounds on one gun and it fires hard primers without issue). I will not go into how it is done here but there are a few people on here that have the "complete" package. dlm37015 has one and he can attest to how well a worked over trigger is. Garufa is another on here that has one of the "complete" triggers as well. I am sure there are others but I can't remember. There are a couple of ways to get an even nicer trigger than just the kit but after a lot of experiments gone wrong it isn't for the novice. There has been a lot of time and money spent figuring out how far one can go, too far and a $15-$20 part is ruined. And plenty of parts have been ruined over the years. This is why instructions will not be given to anyone on how to do it on their own, it is too easy to screw up. Again, I would like to hear of the "trigger bar" that you are removing a measureable .025"-.050" off of. And if it is what I think you are talking about you also need to "tweak" other parts of the fire control group to work together. Hardly something for the novice to even think about trying. Trust me I know because I ruined $75 worth of parts in an hour trying to find an easy, repeatable way to do it. In the end we just went back to the kit that is being sold. It provides a trigger that is way better than the factory trigger without having to spend a lot of money or run the risk of ruining parts. The gun can become unsafe, the safety may not work, and the gun might refuse to fire. All because too much was taken off. The kit is designed for anyone with basic handtools and the ability to follow instructions to be able to install. There is not any filing, cutting, grinding or polishing needed to improve the trigger. Just buy the kit and take 10 minutes to install it. The self install kit works and works well. For most people that install it the trigger is such a vast improvement they are happy with no further work. And if they are not 100% happy for any reason they can get their money back. Dolomite

If a U.S. citizen is on U.S. soil and is attempting to harm the U.S. or its citizens then they should not be exempt just because they are U.S. citizens or that they are on U.S. soil. They should be treated the same way as any other enemy combatant. And according to the text, if a U.S. citizen is caught they are not required to be detained. They are not exempt either, which is how it should be. An enemy to the country should be locked up without regard of their citizenship. I feel more comfortable being judged by a military tribunal than a civillian court. There are laws in place that tell you when you can use th restroom. You can't use the restroom in public. And as a matter of fact you could be convicted of being a sex offender of you do. That, to me, is saying I can't use the restroom when I want. I have read the detention portion of the bill and it does say those in the "control group" may be detained. If a U.S. citizen is part of that group they should be detained. I would buy tools as you need them. Almost every "set" has items you will never need as well as missing items you will. A quality set of screwdrivers. Either bit driver type or complete screw drivers. The screwdrivers that are sold in most stores are not ground correctly and only increase the likelihood of stripping a screw. I would alos include a set of nut drivers as well as allen type drivers in there. Along with that a quality cordless screw driver. You do not want a drill. A drill spins too fast and is generally too strong for what you are gonig to use it for. A decent set of punches, both steel and brass. The brass are not oging to be as fine as the steel punches. The steel punches should be small enough to knock pins and such out while the brass punches are for things suchs as dovetail sights. A set of jewellers files as well as large files. The large files should be metal files with everything from course, double cut, files to really fine files for evening out large areas. A set of dental picks. They are cheap and can be found in most discount tool supply stores as well as flea markets. I am sure I am missing a lot of items for a basic kit and someone else will add to this. Dolomite

A single stage is going to feel like a bolt action trigger. It will feel heavier than a two stage but it breaks cleaner with less movement overall movement. While a two stage is going to feel lighter because of the amount of travel it has in it. But it definitely feels lighter. As others have said go to Predator and ask to pull the trigger on a nice single stage and a two stage. I personally like a tuned single stage over a two stage. And it is all about preference, not performance. There are other ways to improve a single stage as well. Dolomite

The problem I have is they list cfraigslist as a site that sells weapons. It is strictly forbidden and the ad will come down within minutes of being posted. maybe they are confusing airsoft with real weapons. I was at a dealer this past week picking up ammunition. He told me and another customer that it is illegal for individuals to sell or trade guns. This was after I showed interest in buying the other customer's gun he was trying to sell. The dealer also said you have no way of knowing if the person is a felon. I told him that my bill of sale included a statement saying the buyer was not prohibited from owning a gun. The dealer said that didn't matter. He said individuals should have to follow the same rules as dealers. When the other customer asked about checking to see if a gun he just purchased was stolen. The dealer then told the customer that he shouldn't check to see if a gun was stolen. He said if it was, the gun would be taken and that is was better to not know than loose a the gun. Dolomite

I have found that too light of a load will cause a primer to back out but only if there is enough headspace to allow it to happen. I know if I take a primed case and fire it without any powder or bullet the primer will back out. That is in my pistols which tend to be a bit looser than my rifles. The reason is under normal conditions the primer swells and grabs the sides of the primer pocket upon firing and seals it to the case. If you don;t have enough pressure to seal the primer inside the pocket it may back out but only if there is a headspace issue. That might also be the case. The brass has had too many hot loads the the pocket is a bit loose. I woudl start by double checking your load data and then your equipment you measure that load with. After that I would check your headspace to make sure it is ok. The finally I would check the primer pockets to ensure they are holding the primer. I suspect it is going to be a combination of the things I said to check. Having a headspace issue with a 50 BMG is a scary thought. Dolomite

So I picked up a Taurus from a fellow member here. After working on it to get it reliable with other types of ammo I decided to try some of the SSS in it. It is 100% reliable. And even though a 22 isn't ideal as a carry gun at least the 60 grain bullets give it a bit more punch. I will chronograph it in the next few days to see where the velocity is out of the short barrel. I do know that Hyper velocity ammo like Stinger's and Expediter ammo rarely reach 1,000 fps out of a 3" barrel. Most people think they are the best but they are too light and are too slow out of pistols. They do create a large muzzle blast but not much more. I'll post results. Dolomite

I was speaking with our law director about the nuisance suits. He said it costs $15K-$20K just to get ready to have it dismissed in court. So in most cases they will try to settle for less so long as their is no admission of being at fault. It is fiscally responsible and it happens all the time. Dolomite

Nothing to worry about with this either. The weight of a flashlight is minimal at best. And unless you have a free floated barrel there is not going to be any noticeable different in accuracy. The reason why it might affect a free floated barrel is harmonics. You add something to a barrel, that acts like a tuning fork when fired, it will change the point of impact. Again, this is only with free floated barrels. Is the rail sectin the MOE rail section or something else? What flashlight you running? Dolomite

If it was someone who committed a crime that was a felony that is punisable by 6 years in prison I would have, without a doubt, arrested them. That is what the sentence could have been in this case. Now minor infractions it depends upon the circumstances but felonies are a bit more serious and should be treated as such. Misdemeanors are not is the same category as felonies and as such are a different animal. Even the most hard assed officer in the world isn't going to arrest for every violation of the law. But the most officers are going to arrest people who have committed a felony. The reason why this didn't happen in this case was because they no doubt knew eachother. Another reason to report it is if the vandal gets caught you might be awarded restitution by the courts. No matter how unlikely it is the person who commits a crime might be caught it still needs to be reported. Not only for you but for the community you live in. Reporting crimes shows trends and can help head off a crime wave. It also helps your local LE agency because they might qualify for federal funds in order to combat the new threat. Remember a few months back the post about the guy who walked by a school with a firearm? Seem to recall everybody, the public as well as local LE, went off the deep end even though the guy wasn't even on school property and what he was doing was perfectly legal. Although I can't say, I would be willing to bet this is how the reaction would have been in this case as well had it been anyone else. The school would have been locked down and every LE agency available would show up at the school to apprehend the "man with a gun". There would have been public outcry, including on here, for the man to be hung from the rafters and the DA would have charged. But in this case the DA lets him walk and even makes an excuse for his felonious behavior. If the DA said Thomas' actions were legal under a state statute then why can't Thomas continue to carry on shcool property? After all if it is legal once it would remain legal. It is because the DA knows Thomas' actions are against the law. There is a John Thomas with a HCP out of Hardin County, not sure if it is the same guy but even if it is Mr. Thomas still is prohibited from carrying on school property like he did. In a perfect world I would love to say Thomas didn't break the law but the fact of the matter is he did break the law and a pretty serious one at that. Regardless of what we may think of the law it is still a law and it must be enforced equally without regard to who broke it. And even if it was allowed to be pleaded down to nothing he should have still been charged criminally like anyone else acting in the same manner. I just hate when there are two sets of rules when there should only be one. This is one example of what is wrong with our country now, too many people are not being held accountable for their actions. People are allowed to break the law with impunity. Some are even encouraged to do so when those breaking the laws or those enforcing the laws have something to gain. Think about this, if everyone in our society began to disregard the laws they don't agree with then we would wake up tomorrow living in a third world country. Contact Dan Mason regarding crowning tools. They sell a kit that they call their Military Rifle Muzzle Re-Crowning Tool Kit. It allows you to do a 0 or 11 degree crown and the kit only costs $115. By the time you do 2 crowns you are already ahead. You can specify what caliber you want. I am considering getting a 22 kit because I also own a lot of 22's and all of them could use a crown job. I have been eyeballing those for a little over a year now. They are great for the money especially when you consider you are onyl buying what you want. Normally people buy a gun then toss out all the factory parts they paid for when they replace them. Dolomite

Mueller APV or APT are good 22 scopes. As a amtter of fact the APT is a decent centerfire scope as well for the money. The APV runs about $120 and the APT runs aobut $170. The APV has a 1" tube and a duplex type reticle while the APT has exposed target style turrets, a 30mm tube and a mildot reticle. Even the Centerpoint scopes at Walmart are decent as long as you are not turning the knobs a lot. They will hold a zero but don;t track all that well when dialing in your holdover. Vortex has a loarge following and they have several models available in about every price range imagineable. They alos make one of the best "budget" red dots, the Strikefire. Although not required I use a mildot on my 22's. The reason is I can use it for a quick holdover out to about 175 yards. I just chornograpgh the ammo and then make a dope sheet for the gun. Dolomite

I feel just the opposite as to why KPD is not talking to the officers questions. It is so they can remain a bit more impartial or at least appear so and not to cover things up. Realistically what motivation would KPD have to cover for officers that are not part of their organization? Also they may not need the ORPD officer's statement to get a accurate picture of what happened. The investigators are probably relying heavily on those third party witnesses, that do not have a dog in this fight, as well as any video evidence. Additionally, it is important not to make statements to police whether you are the police or not. The ORPD officers may have refused to answer any questions. Nothing good can come of the ORPD officers speaking to the investigators. Now I am willing to bet they have "come clean" to their own administration and that is why one is on "modified" duty status. And with one being on a modified duty status speaks more to what is the truth than anything else in the newspaper. Dolomite
