Range report M44 Mosin Nagant.

Why not just adjust the sights? Dolomite -
It is all together and in the ground now. I only sunk the main casing 60' and the pump head to 50'. That is because I hit water at about 40'. If the water level drops during the summer I can add more casing and pump rod as needed. It will be pretty easy to do if I need to but my water level stays pretty constant throughout the year. A quick test resulted in about a quart per pump. And that was with a 2' stroke. I can go as much as 6'-8' per stroke if I setup a lever of some sort. It did what I wanted it to do which is supply me with water if the power goes down. I drilled several 1/8" holes in the casing about 10' down. That way if it gets really cold it will not freeze. The water will just drain back out of the casing. Dolomite

Try finding one for $300, everyone I have seen for sale has been $500+. Keltec says the muzzle energy is comparable to firing a 22LR our of a rifle. They are going to offer a 22LR conversion. I would buy a dedicated 22 LR version today but I will never buy a 22 MAG version. I think in 22 LR it would be an amazing gun. There is also a rifle version of it as well. Dolomite

The KX3 has a outer shell and then a "V" shaped baffle that faces torwards the muzzle. As the bullet exits the gases go between the outer shell and the "V" baffle. This holds the gases up for a fraction of a second, reducing the concussion normally felt by other flash hiders. I have used them and they work extremely well. You will not see much of a benefit on a 16" or longer barrel but on the shorter barrels it keeps the blast down. I even called and asked if they would make a baffle with a 22 caliber hole to make it more efficient and they said they wouldn't. They said they would need to go through the approval process again. And realistically having a 22 caliber hole in it and shooting a 22 caliber bullet it would work a lot better. So much so it would probably be reclassed as a can. I know if you were to use a KX3 with a 22 baffle on a 22 rimfire it would definitely quiet it down. Adding the KX3 is like adding 2" to the barrel length because of the extra back pressure. I have talked to numerous builders who say if you are having cycling issues try a KX3. If it resolves the issue then they say to go up one drill size on the port. Dolomite -
Not a problem. As long as I am feeling alright. Dolomite

Walmart sells white rice for $6 for 20 pounds or at least did last year. A bit cheaper than the 50 pounds for $25. I leave them in their original packaging and put them in the house in a cooler, pest free location. I inspected them about a month ago and look as good as the day I bought them. Dolomite

LE has no legal obligation to protect individuals. And this has been played out time and time again in the courts. It has even been upheld by the US Supreme court. (Warren v. District of Columbia). For this reason I view my family's protection as a personal responsibility. After all no one is going to protect my family with the same steadfastness as I would. I have had to take their protection very seriously in the past when I had to protect my family and I against a drug crazed meth, oxy, MJ and crack user who had intentions of killing us. The local sheriff called and informed me to close the curtains and stay inside my house. After receiving the call I did not stand by and wait for the police to protect me. I gathered a small arsenal of loaded weapons for my wife and I to use as we waited for what seemed like an eternity. Turned out my brother, after assaulting our mother, grabbed a loaded AK47 with intent on killing my family and I. The police sirens made him run into the woods rather than come to my house. It was a very stressful day but without a doubt him being my brother would have no bearing on me protecting my family. We had a SWAT team in a creek bed in front of our house to protect us but not in the begining. He cleaned himself up for a few months but was arrested a few weeks ago for again assaulting our mother. He went to jail but is out again and living with them again. I have tried to protect them from my brother but the last time I even got involved my father threatened to kill my family and I. So they can sleep in the bed they have made for themselves. They continue to buy him his drugs, give him money for drugs and alcohol as well as make excuses for him. They have driven away two children and two grandchildren because we will not be a party to the illegal activities. I am dreading the call when he finally kills our parents but as I said I will no longer be involved. Dolomite

Another problem with brown rice is they have oils in them. That is what makes them brown. This oil goes rancid after a while. I had forgotten about honey. I guess it is time to go buy some bulk honey as well. Problem with that is I REALLY like honey so it will probably wind up being a revolving stockpile. Dolomite

Next one I do I will grind my rivets out. Sometimes getting the drill bit centered can be a pain. But in the end it is a easy conversion any way you do it. You have to realize the receivers started life as a regular AK receiver with all the proper holes and cutouts. For importation they covered them. It is just a matter of exposing the holes and cutouts once again. And now that I have one under my belt I bet I could do it in under an hour and probably under 45 minutes. Dolomite

How To Not Shoot Yourself With A Blackhawk! Serpa
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Training Discussions
It happens when the fine motor skills go south from stress. I have tried over and over again to like the Serpa but I can't. For the average person who is carrying concealed there is no need for a retention holster. That is unless you like doing cartwheels while carrying. I carry using a leather pancake which isn't an option for most LE or MIL. For LE and MIL the SERPA is a good option but like everything else training with it is key to being successful. I have used Unkle Mike's, Fobus, Blade Tech and none of them jumped out as great option for me. One brand I REALLY like is G-Code holsters. It is by far the kydex holster I like the best and use most often when I want or need a kydex holster. It provides an amazing amount of retention but it is still easy to draw. Even when I worked overseas I used a leather pancake the majority of the time but even that was not perfect. It provided plenty of retention to keep the weapon from falling out, even under rigorous activity it stayed in place. The ony kydex holster I used regularly over there was a Unkle Mike's. The Fobus and Blade Tech holsters just didn't fit me well. Dolomite -
If it were me I would do this. Buy the M&P 15 Sport. They can be had for under $700. They come with a 5R barrel which is a higher quality barrel than most AR's have even at a higher price. 5R barrels are known for their accuracy (google it). The twist is 8 twist so it will handle anything that can be fed from a magazine. It also has a hardened and MPI tested bolt, another item that is normally found on higher end guns. This gun is a great basis to build upon but honestly it doesn't need anything as is. Product: Model M&P15 Sportâ„¢ Next I would find a bolt/clamp on type set of rails. On a whim I bought a set of UTG rails to try. They clamp down onto the gun and are very stabile. They are also very durable for the price. My wife's 9mm AR wore those rails for over 7,000 rounds and we never had an issue. And so you know a blowback 9mm AR is rougher on components than a 5.56 gas gun. The cost of these rails now are around $50 and you can mount a light, foreward vertical grip or whatever you want to them. They are quad rails so they have rails on the top, bottom and sides. Here is a set for $49.99 shipped: 2 Piece Carbine Quad Rail System UTG Style, Handguard | eBay And the Sport has a flat top so mounting optics is easy. It also comes with a iron front sight and a Magpul rear sight for irons. It also has a collapsible stock so your kids can adjust the gun to suit their shooting style. It also makes swapping out to a different style of collapsible stock a 10 second affair. The only requirement you say you need that is doesn't meet is the 20" barrel. But honestly as long as you use quality HUNTING ammo you are not going to see any difference inside of 200 yards. For the money the Sport cannot be beat. It has all the right features without you having to pay for features you don't need. And because it is built to standard AR specs anythign and everythign can be swapped out if you so desire. No need to spend a mint to get into the AR game. And with the Sport you are getting a quality gun that is backed by a major company for less than any of its competitors offerings that have similar features. Dolomite

If you want I will help you. I did mine in about an hour. As long as you have all the parts for the conversion I don't mind helping you do it yourself. You can buy the kit to do the conversion for $150 from Carolina Shooter Supply. It will have everything you need to do the conversion and I will provide the tools and knowledge. Dolomite

Might as well buy a flash hider that is compatible with the can you plan on using. No sense in buying one then buy another later when you get the can. Dolomite -
NYC gun charges dropped. Now I can Speak
Dolomite_supafly replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
There was a case a few years back when a traveller was delayed in NYC. His bags contained a firearm and when he tried to fly out the next day he was arrested. He was passing through between two "friendly" states. If I remember correctly his bags had been lost as well so they never left he airport. He just picked them up the next day as he was checking in and was arrested when he did. Dolomite -
The have a very nice, 5R, barrel and the bolts are MPI tested and hardened. Those two things make it worth a lot. It has all the features of a $800+ rifle for a lot less. It is a standard AR so all parts are going to interchange and you can grow into it but the most important parts, the barel and bolt, are top shelf items. If I were to buy a AR it would the the sport. You can get food grade buckets for free. Just go to any store that has a bakery and they generally have a lot they just throw away. My last trip I got about 25 buckets with lids that had rubber seals. They had plenty more but that was all I wanted at that time. They have 2 gallon, 3 gallon and 5 gallon buckets generally. I filled one bucket up with rice two years ago. During the fill I added a cube of dry ice to the mix. Dry ice evaporates into Co2 which is heavier than oxygen and will displace all the oxygen. It basically pushes the oxygen out. I left the bucket lid cracked for about 12 hours to let the dry ice displace all the oxygen then I sealed the bucket. Another advantage to using dry ice is the Co2 will kill anything in the bucket. I am planning on cracking it open in the next year or so to see how everything looks. Dolomite

Sbr Questions
Dolomite_supafly replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Something else to consider is the type of suppressor. Some manufacturers will not warranty their suppressors on shorter barrels. I have used 10.5" barrels and consider those too short because you loose a lot of velocity. I wouldn't build a 5.56 gun with a barrel under 12.5". I consider 12.5" the minimum barrel for the 5.56 to be effective at anything beyond CQB distances. A good thing about Noveske barrels is they act like barrels that are longer. A 12.5" barrel will have the velocity like a 14.5" barrel. A 10.5" barrel acts like a 12.5". If I had to have a 5.56 with a 10.5" barrel it would, without a doubt, be a Noveske. Paladin Machine makes 2 or 3 position gas blocks for $75. AR-15, AR-10 Adjustable Gas Blocks If you have to have a barrel shorter than 12.5" I would forget about 5.56. There calibers that are better suited for short barrels than 5.56. There is a reason why the 300 BLK works so well with a 10.5" barrel. A 6.8 spc, 7.62x39 (if you can work out a reliable mag) or even a 458 SOCOM would be better suited than 5.56 in barrels shorter than 12.5". Dolomite -
What do you think the average life of a rifle barrel is?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Long Guns
You are probably going to see more damage from aggressive cleaning than from it being fired. It also depends on the caliber because some are known barrel burners. most cases though it is only the throat that gets burned out and a chamber setback fixes that. Most calibers are going to last a very, very long time. Overseas our Afghan counterparts had Ak's that were produced in the 50's. They were shot a lot and not cared for that well over their lifetime. But even with that they could hit man sized targets 7 out of 10 times using iron sights. Looking down the barrels you couldn't tell that they had been shot a lot. Their barrel cleaning technique was to use a shotstring with knots in it that had been dipped in oil. They pulled it throguh the bore and called it good. There are some AR's that are rented during training courses that literally have 40K+ rounds through them and they still shoot under an inch at 100 yards. And those guns are generally not cleaned unless they exhibit a relaibility problem. Dolomite -
Ran into this with magtech CBC ammo/brass new
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
We are talkinga bout CBC brass specifically. Almost any other brand can be loaded multiple times but CBC can't get their initial loads safe. I pay close attention to nickel cases. Thed reason is nickel can ruin a set of dies if it has a crack or is flaking off. It will scratch and leave a burr on the inside of the die. Once that happens every piece of brass will have a scratch. There is no easy way to fix it either without changing internal dimensions. Same goes for range pick ups that might have sand or dirt on the cases. A stray piece of sand can also ruin dies. This is why I always tumble or wash the cases before they hit the first die. I say we contact the DA to voice our opinions or at least ask about the investigation. The more interest in the investigation means they are more likely to follow the law. I do know that from speaking to the office that they are unwilling to prosecute crimes they are not interested in, even if a crime has been committed. District Attorney General Knoxville, TN (865) 215-2515 Calling can only show the DA we want the officers to be prosecuted in the same way a civillian would have been for the same crime. To often people forget as time goes on. And once a decision is made by the DA it is unlikely they will reverse their decision. Dolomite
