  1. I carry a fullsize 1911 every single day and have been for a few years now. I have tried several different over the counter holsters and didn't realy like any of them. They always rode higher than I liked and had an open bottom, which I do not like. I do not like an open bottom because I have left carbon marks on seats on more than a few occassions. I have also scratched things I didn't want to with an open bottom holster. In the end I decided to make my own. It is very, very comfortable and I think the biggest reason is it rides a bit lower and has a larger footprint than some of the others I tried. By footprint I mean behind the gun, I have leather well above the hammer and slide to keep me from getting pinched or scratched. It is a OWB holster but snugs up very, very well to the body. I have made a few for friends and they all like them and say they work as well as any IWB holster they have tried. I make sure to mold a curve into the holster as well during the process of making it. Having a holster that starts out flat isn't going to feel as good when it is sitting next to a round body. It takes a little more effort but I think it makes a difference in comfort. This holster was nearly impossible to flatten once it has been made. The "wing" on the back that comes above the hammer is what I think makes it most comfortable. The bigger the footprint the less pressure points there will be. Dolomite
  2. You could buy a $15 Lee sizing die and fix the bullets after you tear them down. Dolomite
  3. Well there is your problem. Do not shoot them because even though they are lead they can cause excessive pressure. And couple that with any leading you might get and the pressures will rise very quickly. Dolomite
  4. My son didn't get spankings much. But one thing he did get was the feeling that I could if it needed to be done. We were also very, very quick about nipping any bad attitudes or behaviors the second they showed themselves. We were also very involved in knowing what he was doing and who he was with at all times. Some people would frown upon it but we installed monitors on his computer. We would watch it live and then later on use it to make it seem as though we were psychic. It was very helpful in preventing problems because we would know about any plans he had that might get him in trouble. Then we would not let him make it to to those plans. We would also walk into his room unannounced if he had any frineds over, girl or boy. Dolomite
  5. Have you measured the bullets themselves. They may not be .452" but something larger. Loading a jacketed bullet and having it drop right in the chamber is a pretty good indication of this. Also mark the bullet with the pen and try chambering again. The bullet may have a different profile and need to be seated deeper in the case. I have had this happen with certain bullets. Are the lead bullets ones you cast or ones that you purchased? If you cast them did you run them through a sizer? I know that nearly all of my reloads have the bulge in the case you are talking about. You cannot go back and size the case afer the bullet in is the case. The brass is more elastic than lead. When you size it the brass springs back anf the bullet is very loose in the case. The reason I know this is because I tried it to fix an issue like yours. I don't recall what caused my problem but I do know I tore all the rounds down to recover the components. Dolomite
  6. There are a lot of problems with a plan to bug out. If you look at any major exodus throughout history those travelling have had major problems. Bugging in has some advantages. First is you already have everything you are going to have without the need to transport it to a new location. You can call for help from those around you while in a remote location you cannot call for help. Another big advanrage is you know the area. You also know who friend and who foe is or at least have a good idea. Travelling exposes you to more dangers. If any type of relief or supplies is handed out it is going to be in the population centers first. But if you have any hope of bugging out you must be willing to do a few things. First and foremost is be packed and ready to go in a moments notice. Vehicles have to ALWAYS have the gas needed to make it to that location. When the SHTF gas will be gone unless you are at the pumps pumping your gas as it takes place. We seen it when the hurricanes hit and we ran out of cheap gas within hours. From the time an announcement gas may be in short supply it was less than 4 hours later to when I was paying $5.50 a gallon for premium, which was the only gas available. You need to also realize that there are going to be a lot more people than just you heading to a bug out location. This is going to clog the roadways like we saw during Rita/Katrina. The only way you might get a head start is if you are in a position to get some notice, like LE, emergency serives or the government would get to prepare. Otherwise it is going to be a race to get out and if you are not in the lead you will find yourself stuck in the rear. As far as your bug out location you need to own the property you plan to go to. This can give you a little bit of a delay in the squatters that will show up. And once there the squatters are not going to readily leave even if you tell them you won the property. If your bug out location is "public lands" you are not going to be the first there, it will be like winning the lottery. You are going to find yourself left out like thousands of others who had the same plan. Most people don't realize that best case scenario crops will be edible in 4 months. If it happened today we are looking at 5-6 months before crops can begin to be harvested. If it were to happen in say July or August you would be looking at close to a year before crops could be harvested. And as much as I hate to say it in order to survive people must loose their conscience. They must be willing to turn those less fortunate away unless they bring a substantial advantage to the group. I can honestly say that I will protect my location to the end. There are less than 5 people that will be invited in and all others will be turned away with overwhelming amount of force. Dolomite
  7. There actually is a requirement for all males to either register for the draft or enlist in the military at age 18. Failing to register has plenty of legal as well as civil ramifications for those who don't. For those who do not join they can be drafted at a later date if needed. Dolomite
  8. Selective service. If a person registers for the selective service that are in turn eligible for the draft. And just so you know registering for the draft is a legal requirement for all males once they turned 18. failing to do so has a lot of ram
  9. Another thing is this. The DA may not want to expend the time, energy and money to prosecute. Just because a crime is commiteed doesn't mean that are required to prosecute. Most DA's weight the cost of a trial versus the likely outcome when making their decision. And because these officers had a potential second line of punishment coming from their department maybe the DA decided to let the department dish out any punishment. I know I have spoke the Knox county DA's office about a crime I had witnessed and that was ongoing. They agreed that what was happening was a crime but they also said they would not prosecute the offenders. Because the amount being stolen was so small it wasn't worth the effort. With all that being said the officers did commit aggravated assault by presenting a weapon. I also believe they felt they were not justified in doing so at the time otherwise they would have made an arrest. Or they had something to hide. Officers do not draw their weapons and then just let it go. Both parties acted irresponsibly but the officers where the ones who displayed their firearms, potentially escalating the situation. 10. It is not property tax, it is rent that is assessed against property owners. After all what happens if you don't pay it? You get evicted. That is what we tell the tax clerk every year. "We are here to pay our rent". We get some strange looks then the "Honey, this isn't were you pay your rent". Then we tell them our property taxes are rent and the government is our landlord. Then they realize we are being a smart butt and they take our payment. Dolomite
  11. Missouri bullet company for $38.50/500. You add the code and get anoher 5% off. You can get 1,000 for under $85 shipped. Dolomite
  12. People pay taxes on their unemployment benefits so your theory of a person loosing their job doesn't work. As long as they collect unemployment they are required to file with the IRS and if they file they should be allowed to vote. If they are let go through no fault of their own they are eligble for unemployment and in turn pay taxes. Now if they have not found a job in the 2+ years most people have to find a job nowadays then, yes, they should loose their vote because most likely they are going to vote to improve their own standing and not that of the nation. Now once they go back to work and are paying taxes then they should be allowed to vote again. I said nothing about those who get all their money back as part of a return because they are being paid such a low amount. Those people have probably worked very hard to survive on the small amount they are being paid. And those same people would have paid taxes otherwise they would not be filing. I wouldn't be concerned if they filed and got back more than they paid in so long as they filed. And yes some retired people pay taxes and yes they probably get the majority of it back but they do in fact file their taxes and are taxed on their income even if it is retirement. If they are filing their taxes they should be allowed to vote. I am more concerned about those individuals who do not declare their income or do not have any taxable income because they have never worked a day in their life and who collect government assistance. Those people should not be allowed to vote. People screamed about taxation without representation. I say it works both ways if you are not paying your taxes you should not have a say in how others taxes are spent. Dolomite
  13. I think if do not file tax returns you should not be allowed to vote. If you can't support your country with taxes you shouldn't be allowed to be part of the decision making process. And if you do file your taxes the majority of your income cannot come from non taxable income. Dolomite
  14. You don't need the auto disk to use a turret press. You can use the powder through die and just dump the metered powder down a funnel into the case. I have two Auto disk measures and they work great but as I said they are not required. As a mater of fact for precision work I would prefer to dump a measured amount of powder than have the auto disk dump it. I have two handheld primers and a top mounted primer (Lee Auto Prime II) that is no longer made. I use both equally well and each has advantages the others do not. The handheld primers are easy to use and can be used pretty much anywhere but they do not seat the primers uniformly. My top mounted primer allows me to adjust the seating depth of the primers on my precision loads. And if I can sit at the press I will use the press mounted primer before the handheld one because for me it is easier. Dolomite
  15. Thanks. I did not realize that it was possible for you describe to happen. I can see where it would be a better choice to pick from the children overseas. Dolomite
  16. Listen to Caster, he has saved me a bunch of hedaches when I started casting. Your biggest obstacle is gong to be finding enough lead to keep up with production. I cast 9mm and 45 ACP now as well as shotgun slugs. It now costs me about a nickel per shot in bolt 9mm and 45. Dolomite
  17. I have a neighbor who has fostered for decades. They have had at least 10 kids come throgh there doors in the last 10 years. The generally foster then adopt later on. But in speaking with the mother she did say that some kids are very, very troubled and that no amount of love or caring will change some children. These would be the ones I would worry about because no amount of safe keeping is going to prevent a person determined to do something. She said they have tried working with the kids who have serious problems but in the end they surrender them back to the system to prevent problems with all the other kids in their home. She also said it is generally those kids who have been in the system for a while that have the biggest problems. What I find sad is there are plenty of American children wanting and needing real homes yet couples look overeas to find a child to adopt. I know it has to do with the bureaucracy of the system but it should be easier to adopt an American child than a foreign born child. I comend you on what you are doing. My wife and I have talked long and hard about doing the same but in the end we realize we can't. Dolomite
  18. I plan on watching this. I think it will give us all good ideas. I try to be prepared but I know I am not completely there. One thing I chuckled about is on the commercial one of them says "We have over 700 pounds of cucumbers". Now I like cucmbers but I do not belive I have eaten 700 pounds in my lifetime. Dolomite
  19. This is my setup as well and recommend it to anyone who has a single stage. It makes life so much easier when you are building precision ammo or just plinker ammo. Once you lot the settings in you don;t have to change them. This makes keeping the settings that shot so well for you easy. I have not experienced the problems with the L-n-L bushings either. I use a Lee press with Lee, RCBS and Redding dies with all of them in L-n-L bushings. Dolomite
  20. I have the barrel coming. It is a air gauged 41V50 Milspec vanadium alloy barrel. Sounds expensive but for $35 ($51 shipped) I couldn't pass it up. It has a .300 land and .3085 bore diameter. Should work great with .308 bullets in my reloads but still allow me to shoot factory ammo. I didn't use my normal "cheap" barrel blank so we will see how these work. I know the barrels I normally use are generally 1/2 MOA shooters. I am going to have cut to 18"-20" for now. If I build a suppressor I will have it cut down to 16.5" and threaded. I might even thread it now and put a KX3 on the end to see how it works with subsonic ammo. Biggest question I can't seem to find the answer to is whether there is a tighter than SAAMI spec chamber? I am wanting what might be considered a match chamber. Dolomite
  21. Company? Like I said the problem is pre-existing conditions as well as the fact I have been denied previously. Anytime you have been denied it seems like every other company will not even consider me. I will also check with USAA. Dolomite
  22. I have spoken to quite a few dealers and nearly every one of them wants background checks on private sales. I suspect very few are worried about felons getting guns and more worried about lost revenue, either through the sale of their own inventory or being able to charge for transfers. I can see where they would like to be able to charge a fee to do a transfer and background check on private sales. I wonder how their tune would change if the state mandated that background checks done on private sales would be done for free? After all private sales do not cost the buyer or seller anything in the way of a background check. I imagine most would cry foul. Dolomite
  23. Problem with traditional is my preexisting conditions either excludes me or the payments are way out of line. Last quote I got was $279 a month for $10K. I could just save the payment and have the same amount in 3 years. I am saving money but not enough to pay off the house in the next 10 years. I just want to be able to check a box on the refinance and be good. I did not find out about converting SGLI to VGLI until the time frame had lapsed. When i exited the service it was unexpectedly and on short notice. By the time I got the information on it my window was gone. Dolomite
  24. I remember it used to pretty common to be able to get life insurance attached to mortgages but since the collapse it seems not so much. I am wanting to refinance my mortgage and add some sort of life insurance to it. I am not sick and hopefuly not going anywhere any time soon but was looking into something to make sure my wife isn't out in the cold if something does happen. Traditional life insurance, if I can get it, tends to be very pricey for me because of the pre-existing injuries I have from military service. Insurance that pays off the mortgage would be something I was looking at. I am wondering if anyone knows of any lenders that offers insurance as part of a refinance? Or seperate insurers that offer mortgage insurance? I do not owe more than the house is worth and the amount to be paid off is less than my annual income. Dolomite
  25. I have been using Power Pistol for a while now and really like it. It meters well and fills the case about 1/3-1/2 the way. Makes it easy to see if something isn't right. I have also used Longshot it filla the case pretty well also. If you are using lead bullets Trail Boss is a very fluffy powder as well. Dolomite
