  1. Don't be fooled she does shoot better than me. Dolomite
  2. Same thing at our house with our Maine Coon. There have been plenty of times he and a raccoon were sitting on our porch together. We don't feed outside, at least not regularly, but from time to time the raccoon will show up looking and most times stick around if our cats are outside. As far as sending my wife out to check noises, it will never happen. At least not while I am home. Even though she shoots better than me and is a bit more level headed it is still my responsibility to protect her. And if things get bad she can protect me from a distance. I would rather have her, as she is the better shot, protecting me as I put myself in danger than the other way around. Dolomite
  3. After the post I found a post of his on another website where he was actively looking for a militia to join. As well as more of the anarchy, government overthrow BS. Dolomite
  4. I did a little digging and found out some stuff about this guy. http://www.topix.com...CIBTNTFP92QOPJT That is his email address (Eb3131@gmail.com) associated with him. I guess he could be trying to do a good thing by matching any donations but from what he has said on here I seriously doubt it. He is asking for donations be submitted to his paypal account (same email address) then he will match it. To me it is blatant that he is trying to get honest people to give. Maybe this is how he got the $1,000 he was wanting to turn into $5,000. DO NOT DONATE but notice the same email? https://www.paypal.c...adc375ba2d28b99 Also seems that he was also in LE in Sparta. http://www.topix.com...L0A3E09F1U8Q382 Again follow the email address. He is on Facebook: http://www.facebook....4924996&sk=wall He was in the military as a NBC (chemical) soldier. He has been banned from numerous other boards, no doubt for the same antics. There are also some posts with an email and username that is very similar and likely to be his that he is trying to move Oxycontin pills. I think we did good on rooting out and banning this guy. 5. He is probably talking about what the regulations say regarding mental disabilities. He is jumping the gun a little bit and just fear mongering at this point. If you notice the last line it says this doesn't apply to those who are in an institution for observation, which he was. For this to apply there must have been a hearing in order for him to be adjudicated as "mentally defective". And I guarantee that hasn't happened because like every other government office things move very, very slow. He is just acting like an idiot, both now and on the show. He is trying to garner support and anything from Alex Jones, Prison Planet, Infowars or the like are fear mongers as well. They, as well as this guy, should not be taken at their word unless it can be verified through independent sources. Again, this guy is jumping the gun and making a big deal about it might get him what he is complaining about. Dolomite
  6. Ok, so I went ot the range. Actually went twice. The first time I had a 20 MOA rail and couldn;t get it zeroed at 100 yards. So I had to go back home and install a 0 MOA rail. I had to use some "cheaper" rings to get the scope height low enough. Back to the range. I started by zeroing the factory Tula ammo. They were hovering around 1.5"-2" but were pretty consistent. I was pretty happy about that. Once zeroed I tried the tweaked factory ammo. First shot was great, second shot went into the first and the third shot went into the first two. The group was without a doubt 1/2" center to center up to this point. Shot 4 went 1" high and then shot 5 went another 1" high. At this point I got frustrated. Next onto the quality loads in the Tula brass. The 125's with the H335 were around 1.5" and mostly vertical and the 155 SMK's were literally 4"-5" again vertical strings. Disgusted I decided that I would just shoot the factory ammo. After a few shots I decided to turn the magnification down but the ring wouldn't move. This is when I realized the problem. The scope wasn't tight or at least not tight enough to keep it from moving forward into the magnification ring. Turns out those cheap rings or maybe it was me forgetting to tighten them was the culprit. The scope was moving forward shot after shot until the magnification ring wedged itself against the cheap rings. I believe this is why the accuracy was so miserable about 1/2 way through. It was well centered until the scope begain riding up on the rings. I took the "tactical" rail off and went back to what has worked for me for years, a set of Leupold bases and rings. So hopefully in the next few weeks I will be trying it again and maybe with better results. As far as shooting it I like the gun, makes for a nice easy kicking gun. It is reliable as well. Dolomite
  7. The absolutely best deal in the under $800 market is the S&W M&P Sport. It has a 5R barrel which is known for its accuracy. The barrel is Melonite coated which is better than chrome lined as well as being very corrosion resistant. And finally it has a properly hardened bolt which is something I consider mandatory, especially in a gun that is going to see a lot of use. And the twist is the best of all worlds at 8. This allows you to shoot any weight of bullet that will feed from a magazine. It also allows you to shoot the lightweight varmint bullet, something most 7 twist guns can't. I know at about 3,300 fps the 40 grain V-Max comes apart in my 7 twist gun. And at less than that the 53 grain SMK's come apart in the 7 twist as well. Dolomite
  8. You did use the supplied fingerprint cards I hope. The cards must have the BATFe's ORI number. You generally get them as a packet from the BATFe or from the class 3 dealer handling the transfer. Dolomite
  9. Because carbon fiber is layed in layers for it's strength. Making a lower out of layers would create unique problems that would increase costs to make the lower. Perhaps they could use short strand carbon fiber in the substrate but you would give up a lot of carbon fiber's strength. Or maybe make a block of layers then machine a lower out of that. That could work and keep costs lower while maintaining most of the strength. If someone wanted the lightest possible lower one could machine a lot of material away without affecting serviceability. I have considered machining windows in the mag well to lighten. As we as cheese holes in the area under the handgrip. Also removing the fencing would take off weight as well. For the upper I would machine down the center of the rail on top. Take a 3/8" wide cutter and remove as much as you can. All you need is the outside for the rails to be useable. Not have an ejection port or forward assist. Just some wild ramblings of mine. Dolomite
  10. Other than their lower parts kits, DPMS, is a bottom of the barrel firearm. I would avoid spedning money on any DPMS firearm. They are not and have never beem milspec which is a minimum standard. They are cheap both in price and quality. Yes they work for those who shoot a magazine a year. For those who acutally use their AR's a DPMS will fail fairly quickly. They use components that are not even close to being milspec. Even on the bidget scene there are much better guns than anything DPMS offers. Dolomite
  11. I have stuck bullets in barrels during my subsonic load development. I have even stuck mutiples. I will say that knocking a single bullet out of the bore is pretty easy. Normally it is about as hard as a jag with a patch. The only time I stuck more than one bullet, actually 3, it took me hours to get those out. I had to use an extended drill bit to drill the centers out then push the jackets out. The guy needs to take a serious look at his reloading. I bet the entire box is full of squib loads. Dolomite
  12. You can sell home built guns but you must not build them with the intent of selling them. Dolomite
  13. I have used DPMS parts kits for years in dozens of builds and never had a single problem. I have not used a CMMG or PSA kit so I can't comment on those but DPMS makes a nice kit for the money. Dolomite
  14. If you ever replace the FCG with metal let me know. I am in need of a plastic FCG for a suppressed gun. I am trying to get it as quiet as possible but still getting the steel on steel clank. Dolomite
  15. I can say this to all of those planning on bugging out to the hills. I will defend what is mine, including land, from any squatters or looters. After all if you show up and try to take what isn't yours you are a thief. I may have more than I need to survive but I will not share any of it with complete strangers. I have made preparations to ensure my survivability and I would be a fool to give any of it up to complete strangers. And what makes the average person think they are going to make it ouf of a population center before 50% of the other people leaving the cities clog the roadways? What is going to happen is the highways are going to clog like Rita/ Katrina leaving leaving them stranded and with the option of walking to the "hills" or back to the cities. The average person is going to have an easier time surviving in the city than in the "hills". The city are easier to defend, heat and survive in for the average person used to living in the city. People have this grand illusion that they are going to be able to find virgin land to live off of. Look around, how much public land do you see? And of that how much is going to be free for the taking, not much if any, by the time they make it? With that being said a Ruger 22/45 with a PacLite upper is very lightweight and accurate enough to hunt with. Or get a Keltec PMR-30 for something even lighter with a little more firepower. Dolomite
  16. Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. You, without a doubt, did the right thing. Hopefully they can catch those who are responsible. Unlikely but if they do it is also unlikely they will have any serious time to serve. There is no way to describe that feeling in your stomach when you realize what is about to happen. That is unless you have been through it. That nausea and sinking feeling when the adrenaline hits is hard to describe. It hit me me pretty hard that day but I was able to manage it because of training and overseas experiences. Now after he was caught it felt like I needed to sleep for a week as I came down. All the stuff I describe happened about 2 years ago but he is well on his way to another episode. We are going to live our life as normal, just more heavily armed and more often. Everyone, including my brother, knows I am armed at all times. My wife carries the majority of the time as well. We have secondary weapons close by and enough ammuntion to remove any threat he might present. Dolomite
  17. Domestic cats can get big. Some of you have seen our "big" cat. He can easily be mistaken for a bobcat except for the long tail because of his size. He is 17 pounds and has about 2" of fur on him as well making him look very big. If people are seeing a large black cat it is a domestic that is probably larger than normal and the witness is having issues determining distance. I suspect if someone shoots one of these black panthers then a neighbor will have probably lost a pet. Or maybe it is this. With all the bigfoot hysteria and the marketing and money associated with it maybe a group of people are trying break into the "biz" of mythical creatures. If they get researchers in the area it will no doubt bring in revenue. Dolomite
  18. Not likely. He has them where he wants them. He threatens our mother in order to get her money. Our father looks the other way when he does because he sees my mother as an object that is less than human. My brother has even made her buy his drugs for him. I told her she could get arrested if she got caught with them. She said my brother told her she wouldn't get in trouble because she was buying the drugs for him. I told her it wasn't so but my brother told her that I, as LE at the time, didn't know what I was talking about. He has done some pretty heinous stuff to our mother. And when I called the cops my father and brother bully her into telling the cops nothing is wrong. Then they tell the cops it was me with the problem. And having 3 vs 1 the cops whould believe them. My father is a bully and she gives him her paycheck a lot of times or deposits it into his account. And when she needs money she has to go to him to get money. And then she has to pay him back for any money he gives her. He has told me she doesn't deserve anything. A few years ago I gathered my mother up while she was at work to make sure she could get a restraining order against my brother after he assaulted her repeatedly. This was so my father and brother couldn't bully her to prevent her from getting one. My father actually came into the court house, made some threats to try to get her to leave without filing the order. When that didn't happen my father made her move out of their house so my brother didn't have to live on the streets. She didn't mind because she actually went into hiding for about 6 months because my brother said he was going to kill her for getting an order of protection against him. I haven't said two words to my father since September 23rd, 2009. That morning he called me saying my brother was holding him at shotgun point and wouldn't him leave. I told him I was calling the cops and he said my brother said he would kill anyone who called the cops. I asked my father how would he know and my father said he would tell my brother I was the one who called. SO I went to the sheriff's office and they said they couldn;t do anything unless my father called. They said me filing a complaint was heresay and they wouldn't respond. SO I left but on the way home I saw my father outside so I stopped. I told my father I wouldn;t put up with my brother's antics. My father said if I ever called the cops on them again he would "take care of me and my family". He said this as he made a pistol out of his finger and thumb and pointed at me. That was the last time we talked and I will not talk to him ever again. I won't even be present when they put the SOB in the ground. Because any time I get involved they try to screw me over I have washed my hands of the whole group. Hopefully the violence doesn't come to my doorstep again. My brother tried to kill us in October of 2009 and was arrested but he was released to a mental institution for a week in lieu of any criminal charges. His only mental condition is his heavy drug use. Sorry to vent but you must always be prepared to meet violence with more violence. Dolomite
  19. There is nothing wrong with the DI system and it can go much, much longer without cleaning. I have personally shot 3,000-5,000 rounds without cleaning. This was on a carbine length gas system. The only REAL advantage the piston systems have over DI systems is the bolt stays cooler. This helps the extractor springs last longer but you are talking about a $2 part to replace. Bravo Company's Filthy 14 rifle has went beyond what anyone thought a DI AR could. It was finally cleaned at ~30,000 rounds and is still going strong. The last round count I can find is 43,000 rounds on the original barrel. That barrel is still shooting 1.5" at 50 yards, definitely serviceable by mot people standards. http://www.slip2000.com/art-swat2.html. Dolomite
  20. Colt used to be the gold standard but it is no longer so. They are among the best out there but far from the best especially when you consider the cost. They have had quality issues for a very long time. This is the reason why there is large pin guns. It was because the holes were drilled out of spec so to correct the problem they used a larger drill to bring them back into spec. It doesn't happen now because human hands have been replaced with electronic hands. I am not familiar with all the different Colt models or their values so I can't comment. I will say they generally hold their value well because of the name. Just a little general knowledge. People belive the gold standard is "milspec" but it is far from it. Milspec is the minimum standard, kind of like getting a "D" in school. It is enough to pass but far from being top of the class. It is the standard set by the government to ensure the weapons meet a minimal standard of quality and performance. WIth that being said there are plenty of manufacturers who build guns that are not milspec that are leaps and bounds above milspec guns. Noveske for example uses a barrel that is generally accepted as among the best out there as far as accuracy and durability. But it is not a milspec barrel, the reason? It has polygon rifling and is stainless steel. All of the billet lowers you see are not milspec because milspec calls for a forged lower and most billet lowers are not. The monolithic uppers are also not milspec. Chrome lined bores are also the milspec standard but it is far from being the best, it was the best 10-20 years ago but it is far from the best now. There are several coatings that are better, Boron Nitride as well as Melonite are both proving to be better than chrome lined. These are not milspec, at least not yet. As far as better than Colt, there are several. Daniel Defense, Noveske, Bravo Company are just a few. For the money Bravo Company is one of the best makers out there. But with all the small AR companies popping up it is possible to have a AR that is better than Colt by one of these. Dolomite
  21. They are way to different to work or even run together. Romney is a liberal democrat with a ® next to his name. If Paul decided to run as VP with Romney he would loose a lot of his base. I know I am a huge fan of Paul and if he partnered up with Romney I would no longer support him. Unfortunately the GOP has probably removed my ability to vote for who I want for President. Dolomite
  22. This is the reason I generally carry more than just a pistol with me. At one point I had a shotgun in the trunk in case I came home to an intruder. The reason I started doing this is because a friend said that if a bad guy was in my house he was no doubt better armed than me with a pistol. After that hit home I started carrying more than just a pistol. I am still deciding on what to keep permanently with me. An intruder is bad enough but my brother, who has tried to kill me in the past, is once again living close by and using drugs again. He took a brief break from his drug use but is back at it. I am always afraid of coming home to him on one of his tantrums. He is eventually going to kill our parents but they allow him to live with them and are codependent. They all play the victim and blame anyone else for their misfortunes. Dolomite
  23. Did he get his FFL back? I know the last time I was in there, about a year ago, he had lost his FFL over paperwork issues. He was still accepting firearms for repair despite not having a valid FFL. Dolomite
  24. Walmart in Halls sells Varget, ~$23 a pound. Gander Mountain genrally has it as well as Bass Pro Shop. David at the show also carries Varget and he will be at the show this weekend. Dolomite
