As long as the gun remains semi auto you are perfectly legal. Now possession of the actual FA parts to convert to full auto might get you into trouble. It is more than just a special trigger and hammer to convert it into a FA. It is those additional parts that make a MG a MG. But those additional parts needed to turn an AR into a MG will not physically install into a standard lower. It requires some machining that I will not go into detail here. It isn't difficult to do but once you have done the machining the lower is considered a MG even if no parts are installed or if semi auto parts are installed. Dolomite

I can't believe it, She won 200,000 of our taxes

Take possession of the new American, her child, and deport the mother. I am a firm believer that a child should take the citizenship of the parent. If one parent is Anerican then the child is American. But if neither parents are citizens of the United States the parents, along with the child, should go back to their home country. Dolomite -
What are you wanting? Just items you will likely need to repair a gun? Or to build a gun from surplus parts? Sarco for the longest time had M-16 parts kits with everything except the lower receiver the the F/A FCG parts. Midway sells a very complete repair kit that has everything you will likely need to replace in the first 5,000-10,000 rounds of use. Also, building a F/A M-16 is against the law. But using M-16 parts in a semi auto gun is perfectly legal. Dolomite

It is state law that one must be 18 to enter a store that sells only airsoft? I took my son to an airsoft store and they said they I needed to stay with him because it was against the law for a minor to be in the store without a parent or guardian. This was about 8 years ago and they said he couldn't even hold the airsoft gun he wanted while in the store. Parafrog Airsoft in Knoxville has a sign on their door that states state law requires you to be 18 to enter. I would be willing to bet there is a law regarding an age limit for possessing airsoft "firearm". Dolomite

There are several types of front sights. You need a "same plane" setup and you likely have a front sight for a railed gas block. Same plane sights are going to be the same height when installed in a single rail. That is the way to tell. Install them next to each other and if they are the same height then they are "same plane" sights. There is a significant difference in height, as you found out. The most popular same plane sights out there are Magpul sights. Dolomite

Are Lanyards on our carry guns a good idea?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The only good thing I could see for having a lanyard is if a bad guy got control of your handgun. All you have to do is run away and it will jerk the gun out of their hand. That is if the lanyard is strong enough. That is the only thing I can imagine that the lanyard might do. But as others have said they snag on anything and everything you walk by. I hated them and still do to this day. The negatives are not worth any of the benefits. On another note, those Rhodesian mag carriers are just as bad for snagging on stuff. I was given one to use on my first trip overseas and was stopped ead in my tracks numerous times daily. Dolomite -

They are overwhelmed. They are not just sitting on paperwork just to create a delay. It is a money making endeavor for them so the quicker they can do it the better they are. Complain enough and some well to do legislator may try to remove the whole process because it is inefficient and costly. I would be willing to bet the government is not even breaking even. Best to not complain too loud. Look at my previous post from a few pages ago. I spoke to one of the big wigs up there and they are short staffed but working as fast as they can. There have been several retire and they are not allowed to hire any replacements. Another thing to consider is the $200 stamp has not increased since 1934. Imagine if it had increased based on cost of living increases. The $200 represented roughly 1/7th of the annual income in 1934. In 2008's economy 1/7th would be approximately $7,500. So I wouldn't complain too much about the time frame. It could be worse. They could be charging a lot more which would no doubt reduce the time frame. Personally I would like to pay $200 and have a 6 month wait than a 2 week wait and have to pay thousands. So soon we forget, back in the 80's getting your approval back in 12 months was considered extremely quick. Dolomite -
A little birdie told me that the 5R barrel normally only found on the M&P Sport will also be available on the S&W M&P MOE and VTAC2 rifles. The 5R barrels are known for their accuracy. And the Melonite treatment that S&W uses is the best there is. It is more durable than chrome lining and more corrosion resistant than most other coatings. You can't go wrong with the support of a company like S&W. Dolomite

I need a scope recommendation
Dolomite_supafly replied to Symbolic's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
http://www.grscinc.com/crs.html You might be able to look around and find them for a little less. This guy has put a lot of work into making these scopes. The reticle was unique when it was first produced. He does hold the patent for horseshoe type reticles. I know they have sold hundreds on AR15.com and I have never heard a single complaint. Millett also makes a decent 1x-4x within your budget. This is of mine from a post a few years ago so most of the links probably will not work but you can see the scope name. They were all under $250 and most under $200. I think any of them would work well for you and your budget. The ones linked to samplelist.com are dead but there are some from optics planet. You will have to look around because Natchess doesn't ship to Tennessee. This should give you a good list to narrow from. Dolomite -
Red Dot Optics - Question
Dolomite_supafly replied to dkd83's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Unless you own a Zoom Dot like I do. The Zoom Dot allows the dot to go from 1 MOA to 10 MOA with the turn of a knob. It also automatically dims or brightens according to ambient light. It is also a very durable scope. I used and abused mine while overseas and never had a problem out of it. When they were made by MIllett they were in the range of Aimpoints and I felt it was better than an Aimpoint because of the auto adjusting feature as well as the adjustable dot size. And they do not change zero when switching dot size like most scopes out there that have different reticles. Now they are made by Bushnell and run around $225. I almost always consider a automatically adjusting scope mandatory if you are going to be going in and out of dwellings. It was always the same thing, people would be adjusting their red dots before going in or out of a dwelling during the day. And if you forgot then you would either loose the dot or the dot would obscure the sight picture because of ballooning. It was almost funny watching everyone doing the same thing, stop and tap the buttons on the Eotech or turning the knob on the Aimpoint. I do know for a fact that on the smallest setting the Zoom Dot would NOT cover a man sized target at 600 yards. Dolomite -
Squaring up an AR-15 upper
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
There is the locator pin the is in the way. With it in place you generally can't. And the mounting surface is pretty square or at least a lit more square than the upper surface it mates to. Dolomite -
I would enjoy being involved in getting to that point. Dolomite

For me I would like to try a piston setup but as far as reliability goes I do not see them being any better than the proven DI system. I understand why they should be better but have yet to really seen documentation of a real world difference between the two. A quality DI rifle is going to be as reliable as a quality piston rifle. A piston system is not going to have more recoil than a DI system. The biggest reason is the piston system adds weight. There have been a lot of documented DI AR's going thousands upon thousands of rounds without cleaning. Here are some posts detailing a lot of them but one in particular had 4,800 rounds of Wolf, yes Wolf, without cleaning. Here are a few: 15K rounds of Wolf without cleaning Pat Rogers school has a rifle that is rented that has documented more than most: BCM Complete AR15 Upper and Lower Receivers [2010-01-01] - 03DESIGNGROUP Here is the most recent article about "Filthy 14". Yes they did finally clean it after firing 26,245 rounds without cleaning. http://www.bravocomp...thy14_oct10.pdf So for me piston systems are more snake oil than actually needed because when was the last time any of us fired 25K rounds without cleaning. I'll admit I am not a big fan of cleaning my AR but I have never made it to 25K rounds using a single AR, without or without cleaning. I will say I rarely clean my main gun, probably once a year and after 500-1,000 rounds. Rather than spend the money on a piston setup I would buy more ammo and practice. I would also buy some of the normal wear parts of an AR. Buy a few disconnects, a few extractor springs, a few hammer springs, a few trigger springs, an extra firing pin, extra gas rings and maybe an extra bolt hold open or two as well as a extra set of hammer/trigger pins. These are the parts I see fail the most with the extractor spring and disconnect being the top two. I will add something about ammo that I have noticed. American ammo, for whatever reason, seems dry. That is the residue and carbon left behind is dry. This means oil or lubricant needs to be added to some guns to keep them running reliably. Now ComBloc ammo tends to be just the opposite. The residue left behind is almost oily or greasy in consistency. I think this is part of the design and lends to keeping the guns running a bit longer. Dolomite

If you are going to spend $200 on a stamp why not build a decent can. Freeze plug cans work but are far from the greatest performers. Also the durability on center fire rifles is miserable. Dolomite -
If you want, give me a call. Sounds like your seater die needs screwed in a bit more. No need for a separate die to crimp the loads. Also, do not run them through a sizer again. The die squeezes the brass which in turn squeezes the bullet then the brass springs back some. This leaves the bullet undersized and it will wobble in the case if not completely fall out. I know because I tried it to fix a problem just like yours. Dolomite

http://www.crickett....ickett_faqs.php Thanks guys for the postitive thoughts on this. It is literally quieter than a pneumatic nail gun and that is with bulk ammo. With subsonic ammo is it pellet gun quiet. I have yet to shoot it without the suppressor but I bet it will be LOUD. I do have to sand the stock some because a cutter got away from me and put some gouges in the stock. The stocks are cheap enough that I might actually just order a walnut. I think walnut looks better with stanless anyway. Dolomite -
I got this in and knew it was going to get a silencer in some way shape or form. I just couldn't decide on whether to keep the 10.5" barrel or use a shorter barrel. Well after some testing I decided to go ahead and use a short barrel. The barrel here is right over 4". That way everything I shoot will stay subsonic. No more buying expensive subsonic only ammo. I still need to but not for this gun. Without the suppressor: And with the suppressor: It is just a little longer than the factory barrel. And the weight is close as well. Makes for a very handy and extremely quiet package. The red dot mount is a temporary one to check accuracy and it seems pretty accurate so far. I hope it is as accurate as the factory barrel. If not it will get another barrel with a match chamber. I also installed an overtravel stop and swapped the factory trigger spring with a lighter one. And none of this required any permanent modifications to the gun. Dolomite

You do not need a stocking dealer or a dealer that is a silencerco affiliate. You just need a dealer that can accept the silencer. You pay for the silencer than have it transferred in just like a firearm. Once it is at the dealer then you need to do the paperwork to get approved. I was going to buy an Elite Iron suppressor and called them. They said they could take a credit card over the phone for the silencer I wanted. Then they would transfer it to the dealer of my choice. In the end I just made my own. It is a better performing silencer than most you can buy. Dolomite -

Arkansas numbers as of March 2012. AOW: 591 DD: 41,962 MG: 4,827 SILENCER: 7,218 SBR: 1,091 SBS: 1,017 56,706 FFL's: 1,812 The Stainless Sparrow is the easiest to clean which should be a big consideration with a 22. They do have a first round pop but gel can mitigate that some. I have a friend who has a Outback and it is quiet and lightweight. Dolomite -
Red Dot Optics - Question
Dolomite_supafly replied to dkd83's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Another tip for you. Most of the autosensing micro red dots have "eyes" tod etect ambient light levels. What you can do is take a piece of either clear tap or masking tape and cover the :eye". Then take a sharpie marker and darken the piece of tape. Take the red dot outside and see if it is fixed or still too bright. If it is still too bright repeat the process by putting another pieceof tape over th previous piese and darkening it in. Continue the process until the dot is just right. And if you need it brighter again just remove the tape. Dolomite
