I seriously doubt the rifling was coming out. More than likely it was lead build up obscuring the rifling. I have several .22's that have in excess of 20,000 rounds and the rifling is as good as new. Something about rimfires, you never clean the bore until accuracy begins to fall off. I have had match guns that had thousands of accurate rounds through them without cleaning. And in most cases it takes 25-50 rounds for the barrel of a rimfire to foul and groups to tighten back up. Most damage done to the rifling, especially rimfires, is from improper or over cleaning of the bore. That is also true for most center fires. Other than the throat most center fire barrels will last tens of thousands of rounds. And when accuracy falls off with them all you do is cut 1/8" off the chamber end of the barrel and rechamber. The barrel generally be as accurate as before. Never clean from the muzzle. Most damage that affects accuracy is from a damaged crown. That is the last thing a bullet touches so any damage there will affect accuracy. Most cases it is rather a nick or just wear from a cleaning rod dragging on the crown. Dolomite

Make sure to get the stainless version. It might be a little more but it is leaps and bounds more durable than the aluminum one. Dolomite -

New video of Kelly Thomas being beat to Death.

In every single picture I can find of Officer Ramos he has a "how dare you" or a "I am above this" look on his face. And although we would love to hate the officers for what they did it is not entirely their fault. Their actions are the result of their continued training, their peers, their supervisors as well as their administration. They have allowed other incidents to go unpunished which only empowers officers like these. It is a rare that an officer goes from being an outstanding officer to a crappy officer in one step, it happens gradually in front of their peers and supervisors. Dolomite -

Not in our jails. We no longer have a justice system, just a legal system. And it is this legal system that is going to protect these animals while they are in jail. I would like it if they are tried, convicted and sentenced to a very long time in jail. I would love it if these animals were placed in general population to endure that torture. But the truth is they are going to be protected for their time in jail. I have always loved the eye for an eye concept when it comes to crimes where someone is intentionally injured by another. In this case the sentence should be a slow methodical beating until they succomb to their wounds. It would send a message to those would be criminals that you will be getting more than just a comfy jail cell, conjugal visits and a free education. They are likely going to plea and get a reduced sentence. The DA is going to accept the plea to keep their conviction rates high for their next election. I hate plea agreements that reduce sentences and pleas should not count towards a conviction rate of a DA's office. What needs to happen is if the person is convicted by a trial they are given the max under the law with no good time or any of the other BS feel good programs in the prisons. What should happen is if a person wants to plea they should not know what their sentence will be. That will be determined by a jury or a judge if the criminal waives that right. After they have pleaded guilty then the sentence is handed down by their peers. And it can range from nothing to the max but most importantly the criminal does not know what he will serve before he/her pleas out. And once they are convicted and sent to prison they should not be comfortable. They should be provided with food, shelter, safety and medical care. They have no consitutional right to a television. They should have no right to conjugal visits so they can produce another child I am going to have to support. No radios, drawing supplies or any commissary. And the food should meet nutrition requirements, not taste requirements. Do like what has been done with those who throw food. Blend the entire meal together into a slurry then add flour and bake like a giant bisquit. I am talking about the meats, veggies, desserts, fruits and drinks all into a single bisquit. It works well and meets the nutritional requirements. Inmates should not eat and live better than our soldiers serving overseas. Dolomite -
The casing was probably tossed out in the yard after the incident or after police gathered what tey needed. No need to read into any more than that. I would trust that old man's word of what happened over most others. He grew up in a time when your word meant everything and lying was almost as bad as killing a man. So sad how times have changed in the last 75 years. Dolomite

10/22 Aftermarket trigger group & adjustable aperture sights??

You getting a lot of port noise with the SSS? Every semi auto I have tried them in the port noise is louder than the shot itself out of a can or long barrel. I even made a anti bounce weight for my Ciener kit to add weight to the bolt. It helped some but I still get a lot of noise. Dolomite -

10/22 Aftermarket trigger group & adjustable aperture sights??
Dolomite_supafly replied to graycrait's topic in Long Guns
All I have ever used is factory parts for my triggers. I will say there are a few things you need to do to make them great. First is shim the trigger parts to remove the side to side movement. WIth all the factory slop it is impossible to get a gun to reset reliably. Second you need to swap the sear and trigger return springs for lighter ones. I ordered a pack of varius ones from Brownells but you can likely find what you need at a hardware store. Here is the best shim kit: http://michigancenteroutdoors.com/shim_kit.html http://michigancenteroutdoors.com/shim_kit_instructions.html The deluxe kit is generally enough to do two trigger groups. There are a few on here who have felt my triggers. They can attest to how well they feel for a factory trigger. Not Kidd great but better than most other triggers. Dolomite -

I spoke to a front line tech long enough to get an email for the repair manager. I sent him detailed pictures of the problems before we spoke so he could see exactly what was going on. Then I spoke to the head in charge of repairs and returns, J. Renteria, about the LC-9's finish. He was appologetic and sent a shipping label that day on 4/18. When I called back and spoke to him again he said that the nickel finish wasn't their doing and wasn't sure why I wanted to send it in to Ruger for repair. He is the one that did say they would inspect the gun for safety. This was all on the same day when all of this took place. The LC-9 is a Talo gun. And after the dealer got involved Ruger wanted the entire gun rather than send just a slide. I understand why they do not want to send just a slide but no one can figure out who is going to do the repair. Yes Ruger wants it but they say it is the distributor's finish. And on top of this no one can figure out how long the repair is going to take. I was also told that the new nickel finish would be applied over the engraving and that will not work because the engraving gives it a nice contrast. And on Thursday 4/10 I called to inquire about another Ruger firearm that is in for repair. The clerk looked me up then said she needed to put me on hold. She came back to the phone and mentioned the problem but then said she rather frantically that she needed to call me back after she "figured things out". This was about 1:30pm our time and about 11:30 their time in Arizona. Never heard anything back. Initially when I called I was told 10-14 day turn around on the repair. I have even offered to pay for the repair on the gun as long as it wasn't in their hands too long. That gun was mailed off on 4/23 with an assurance it would be returned in a few weeks. It was a brand new gun that had issues within 200 rounds. Hard to say if the problem was caused by me or by tolerance issues but I have no problem paying for the repair if they determine it was my fault. Dolomite

Avoid a boxer if you like peace and quiet. We got one and it has been the most stressful dog we have ever owned. He gets into everything. On a good note though he is the most affectionate dog we have ever owned as well. Not a mean bone in his body towards anything except "bad guys" and strangers. I have owned pit bulls or bulldogs for the last 20 years. They are a breed I will never be without. They as eager to please and have personality. And almost any mutt is going to be a better dog than a purebreed. Especially shelter dogs for some reason. Not sure if they understand that they hit the lottery or not but they do seem grateful. I demand a recount!!! You ARE disagreeable and you have twice the count I do. You are obviously performing some "special" favors for the person counting the reputation points. Who is that these days? TGO David? MacGyver? I demand to know because I want to be as popular as you. Dolomite

Another thing to ponder with 10/22 triggers. Until Tony Kidd designed his all aftermarket triggers were just a souped up version of a factory trigger. Dolomite -

If you want to sell the front sight from the Tech SIghts let me know. Depending on which one it is I would be very interested in it. Dolomite -
I don't think it is used enough right now to even worry about getting rid of it. The only times I have seen more than a couple of ups or downs has been in the htreads where someone got banned. For the most part I think it is being used as intended, just not very often. Might want to put up a sticky and explain how to use it. I don't think a lot of people even know it is there or what it is actually used for. Also, might want to mention it is about usefulness of a post and not about personal feelings about the poster. Not sure I understand movement with the bushing left in. If you are talking about slop between the barrel bushing and the barrel itself it is normal. Doesn't help accuracy if it is too loose but it isn't unsafe from a loose barrel bushing. Dolomite -
She is going to shoot and enjoy it. It is still a relaible pistol but I wish I hadn't paid extra for her disappointment. Dolomite

I have never used a drum for the 9mm. Stick mags seem to be the most reliable so I stick with those. Dolomite

My wife has carried a PF-9 for a while and really liked it. Then she seen a nickel plated and engraved Ruger LC-9. It is a very nice looking pistol. And although we could have gotten a standard LC-9 for a lot less my wife decided to splurge and buy something nice. So we get it home and I give it a good cleaning before the first shot. We took it out and within 25 factory rounds the mickel finish was coming off the muzzle. So I take detailed pictures and contact Ruger. I send them the pictures. They sent a shipping label for the pistol to be returned for repair then they said it would be repaired and back in our hands in 10-14 days. I called back with a few more questions regarding the finish and they said they do not nickel guns. They went on to say that is was something the distributor must have done. The person said they were not sure why we were sending it abck because they would not repair a finish they did not do. So I did not ship it back and this was about 3 weeks ago now. After speaking with Ruger I contacted the shop I bought it at and explained the problem. They said they would contact their distributor as well as Ruger to see what needed to be done to repair the firearm. He called me back a few days later and said a new nickel plated slide was coming in the mail. I agreed to wait. Step forward to about a week ago and I contacted Ruger regarding another repair. While I was on the phone I checked on the status of the slide. The tech said they would NEVER ship just a slide and on top of that they had never heard of the dealer. So I called the dealer nd he swore they promised to send just a slide to minimize time without the gun. The dealer called a few days ago and said to bring the gun in so he can send it back to Ruger. I talked to my wife and we decided to just deal with the finish coming off. I can assure you this will be my last Ruger that has a "special" finish. It will likely be the last one ever unless I come into a great deal. Througn all of this Ruger couldn't decided whther they did or did not make the special edition gun. One top of that the repair was going to take 10-14 business days or 3-5 weeks. And when I questioned the difference in timeframes the tech said they were the same amount of time. They also said that they would just inspect the gun for safety issues then return it as is. And if there was an issue they would replace the nickel slide with a standard slide to make sure the gun was safe. Dolomite
