Any Marlin collectors out there?
Dolomite_supafly replied to smokndav's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
You need a membership to sell on here. You cannot sell third party items on here either. Dolomite -
Since the new went live I looked at the classified less than 15 times. I just forgot that it was a seperate section and I am sure there were others that did the same. Dolomite

I liked the old one. It allowed people to comment positively about the seller as well as the item being sold. And as an added bonus it bumped the ad as well. And as always negative comments in a sale ad is a no-no and always will be. Dolomite

Latest Class III: Guesses on Wait Time
Dolomite_supafly replied to Semiauto's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I am about as far from govt employee as one could get. It just so happens someone at the ATF gave me his information and told me to call anytime. So anytime I hear a rumor that doesn't make sense I call him. I also write letters for clarification all the time or used to and guess what, I still have my dogs and they are still breathing. EAA guns are some of the best values out there. I have owned a lot of EAA guns and all have been reliable, accurate as well as good looking. I would not have any reservations about buying any EAA guns. Dolomite

It is easier and quicker to machine in their CNC operations. And time is money. I am all about weight savings but never at the cost of reliability or durability. Dolomite

I have a friend that transfers his long guns into a surrounding state. The pawn shop he uses charges $10 and he doesn't have to pay the TICS fee. All he has to do is the 4473. Even with gas cost it is still cheaper than any of the local dealers. And it is perfectly legal to do this with long guns. Dolomite

I have warned several people about the booster pucks and here is the perfect example. Dolomite

I will add to the fact that an aluminum puck is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Not sure how much you paid for it but you need your money back. aluminum would not hold up to the blast and hammering. I made my own out of 17-4 stainless and it needed to be hardened before it was useable. If you have a factory puck you might try that until KA gets you their puck. If you don't have a factory one anymore I will gladly help you put by sending you mine until you get something better. And I will be glad to spend any amount of time on the phone you need to get your Saiga running. I am sorry someone took advantage of you with their ignorance. Let me know. Dolomite

Speaking of pork. We used to have people in the jails who said that their religious beliefs wouldn't allow them to eat pork. Then we started looking into it when everybody began to claim the same thing. Well it turned out that on pork days those who "couldn't" eat pork would get chicken tenders. And those chicken tenders were something no other inmates got, ever. When we changed the no pork diet from chicken fingers to some less desireable meats, like tuna, most of the religious no pork guys renounced their religious bleiefs and began eating pork again. Now there were some true no pork eaters out there but most just wanted chicken tenders. Dolomite

And there goes his budget without the glass. And most Savages will outshoot most Remingtons out of the box. Not saying all will outshoot all but most will. To stay within your budget get a Savage and then shop around for a scope. Wonder optics makes a great scope for the money. They have everything you would need to reach 1,000 without all the extra stuff you don't. Muelller also makes a decent scope in the $300 range as does Hawke. http://www.sightwonders.com/wotac-rifle-scopes.html And one great thing aobut a Savage is you can swap calibers yourself, at home without the need of a smith. Can't say that about Remington. I have several Savages and I can do a caliber swap in 10 minutes. All it takes is a $30 wrench and a sized peice of brass or the loaded rounds you intend to shoot. Basically you chamber the round then screw the barrel down onto it until snug then tighten the barrel nut. It is literally that simple. You want minimum headspace on any gun. Minimum will not get you into trouble but too much will. With Remington the barrel needs to be fit because of the shoulder and that requires equipment and expertise. And rarely does a factory take off Remington barrel from another gun headspace correctly on a different receiver. It does happen from time to time but if you are wrong the results can be disaterous. And another advantage is this keeps the chamber specs to a minimum which keeps your brass from growing. And when you brass doesn't grow it lasts MUCH longer. I have some cases that have at least 15 loadings on. Dolomite

380acp not chambering 380acp round ?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Sounds like the bullet is engaging the rifling before the slide locks up. It has happened to me with my reloads on ceratin guns. An indicator is the hard to extract problem after chambering the round. As far as Tula goes I have personally never had an issue with it. I have fired A LOT of 223 Tula without issue. I know a lot of people who shoot Tula pistol ammo without a hiccup as well. But I do believe the cahmebr might be a bit tight for Tula which is not a bad thing. Dolomite -
I had a Savage that shot honest to goodness groups of .5". And it did it for exactly 3 rounds. The 4th round was 1/2" to the left. The 5th round was 1" to the left. I never shot more than that at a time. In retrospect I would have really liked to see how far it would have drifted. Maybe I was the holder of a Cornershot before they had even been invented. I tried everything I could to resolve the issue but in the end I just put a tensioning sleeve over the barrel. That fixed the heat related drift and did it cheaper than rebarreling. It also did it without adding a substantial amount of weight. Dolomite

Yes but the shift has more to do with the concentricity of the bore to the outside of the barrel. A thick barrel with an off center bore (yes it happens) will shift more than a sporter barrel with the bore concentric to the outside. But the shift can be more pronounced with a thinner barrel than a thicker barrel. Dolomite

Accuracy and range are two different things. A fully prepped .22 lr will shoot circles around any AR inside of 100 yards. But the range of the AR is much father than a 22 lr. Barrel stiffness is a result of length vs width. A long thin barrel will be less stiff than a barrel of the same length but twist as thick. Likewise a barrel that is 1/2 as long but as thin as the thin one will be stiffer than the original thin barrel. As a gun fires the barrel whips just like a bullwhip just on a microscopic level. And this whip can be affected by the thickness of the barrel and the length. This is why it is much harder to get a sporter barrel to shoot a wider range of ammunition accurately. The reason why bull barrels are made is to make the barrel stiffer. The stiffer the barrel the less wildly the whip of the barrel harmonics will be. And if there are less harmonics that barrel exhibits it while tend to shoot better with a wider range of ammunition. It will also be easier to tune the loads to squeeze the most accuracy out of it. And during tuning your loads you want the bullets to exit at exactly the same point in the whip. Dolomite

What's are good .223 load for 62 and 69 grain bullets?
Dolomite_supafly replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have had great luck with 24.5-24.7 grains of Varget with 69 SMK's. It seems to be one of those universal loads that works in a lot of platforms. With that being said I chronographed a Standard Deviation of 2 (yes two) with the surplus powder that David sells. It meters very well and David is a great guy to deal with. He supports the shooting sports and has a welath of knowledge for anyone that asks. He is also a veteran. Even though you say you don't want 8 pounds you are paying about the same for 8 pounds as you would for 3-4 pounds of most other powders. Dolomite -
Normally all the weird stuff comes out of California. But I think the reason why something like this doesn't happen there is because of all the vegetarians in California. No self repspecting vegetarians would be caught eating meat. Dolomite

RELOADERS PARADISE.....*HUGE* sale.....
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Events and Gatherings
To help the OP out I will be there from 10am to 12pm. I will not be part of the sale in any way but for those of you who show up the AR trigger kits will be available for sale as well at a reduced price. Dolomite -
And all things considered a shorter barrel will be more accurate than a longer barrel. The reason is with a shorter vs thickness barrel has more stabile barrel harmonics. Longer barrels have more whip and that whip is what causes inaccuracies until a load is found it likes. You want a round that exits at exactly the same time of the barrel whip. The only time a longer barrel can be more accurate is if iron sights are being used. The longer sight radius contributes to the accuracy not the barrel itself. And caliber has very little to do with accuracy, the platform does have more of an impact on overall accuracy. Dolomite

Find a optometrist that can work with your shooting. Some are able to adjust the prescription to help with a magnified optic or red dot. Dolomite

25 People Shot in Chicago In Less Than 24 Hours
Dolomite_supafly replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
But I thought Chicago has some strict gun laws. No way it could have been a resident because they are all law abiding citizens. If they want to reduce the number of shootings they need make firearms mandatory or at least legalize them. Most criminals are chicken ####s and will not attempt anything if there is a chance they might get hurt. And if 1/2 the population was armed then they would find other ways to engage in their criminal activity. As much as most antis hate guns they need to realize guns make a society a polite society. If you refuse to leave physical force can and will be used to remove you from the property. And you would be the one going to jail not the property owner or his agent. Even if the property owner places his hands on you first you are sitll in the wrong and going to jail. If you resist with physical force you will also be charged with an additional crime depending on how you resist. Property owner rights do trump any rights you think you may have as an individual on that property. You only have rights on my property if I allow you to have those rights. You have ZERO right to free speech on my property yet I can say anything I want. You also have ZERO right to carry a firearm on my property if I do don't want you to. Hell, you have no right to wear shoes on my property if I don't want you to. It is MY property and I can choose who enters and how they act. On my property I do have more rights than you, that is a fact not some notion. Better has nothing to do with rights. I am not better than any other person but because I own property I have rights on my property that no one else has. Whatever misguided rights you think you have cannot be forced upon me in any place other than on property you own. There is no way in the world you can force your will upon me on my property. And with that I accept you can force your will upon me on your property but no where else. Dolomite

What I hatge about ballistically matched reticles and turrets is they rarely match real world performance. The velocity is not going to be even remotely close between a 16" gun and a 24" gun. In most cases the velocity will be different by about 40 fps per inch of barrel length with most 223 loads. The heavier bullets exhibit less while lightweight bullets exhibit more. The turrets say 3,240 fps but what happens if the actual veclocity is say 3,100 fps? At 500 yards the bullet drops an additional 7" thats what. And that is when the conditions are the same. Now the difference in drop between 49 and 89 degrees is another 3.5". A bullet drops less in hotter weather than in cooler weather because of air density. There are just too many variables that can affect bullet performance for a ballistically matched anything to be correct all the time or even most of the time. The best way to make sure you can place accurate shots on target is this. First and foremost chronograph the ammunition to get the real numbers, even if the ammo is factory ammo. I have yet to find a rifle ammunition that matches its advertised numbers in any of my platforms. Providing the ammunition stays relatively close to the temperature as when you chronograph it will be the constant. Also, those numbers will not change very much based on ambient temperature or humidity in the 10' to the chronograph. The normal variance will be more. Now that you have the REAL velocity use it to make a ballistic chart. It should be based on where you are going to be shooting or hunting and should be for current conditions, not 6 months prior. You can also use one of the ballistic programs available to make on the fly corrections based on current weather conditions. Dolomite
