Are the days of cheap Mosins ending?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Glenn's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
As a certain surplus firearm's availibility shrinks the prices are going to increase. As a matter of fact that is the rule for anything being sold that has a demand. Rememebre when SKS's could be bought for $79 and a lot of people thought that was overpriced. Now I would gladly pay double or even triple that for an SKS. And at some point surplus 7.62x54 ammo is going to dry up some and then the ammo shortage is going to drive prices of the rifles back down again. Another example, 7.62x25 could have been bought for $100/1440 rounds and now that it has dried up good luck finding it for less than 9mm. Dolomite -
I also belive that some older people believe they get a "by" for things like this because they are so old. They see it as something they are due for making it as far as they have. I know the guy didn't do it intentionally but his response was very telling. As far as respect goes it has nothing to do with age, it has to do with whether you deserve any respect or not. There are young people who have earned my respect as well as old people who don't deserve any. I also get tired of people demanding I respect them in a disrespectful way. First you must be respectful to have me respond in a respectful manner. Second, if I don't know you I don't know if your deserve any of my respect. And third if you are demanding someone's respect respect in the first place you probably don't deserve it. I will show the common courtesy due as a human but if you are acting like an animal you will get treated like it. With that being said a stranger will not have my respect until I get to know what kind of person they are. Dolomite

One more thing. What position is the gas block going to be in? Dolomite

For the gas block: Paladin Machine Service 3832 Gates Ford Rd. Kershaw, SC 29067 (803) 475-7542 It isn't that they are any better than any other but for $60 they can't be beat For the BCG I would buy a standard milspec. The BN coating is good but like chrome is doesn't hang onto lubricant. For me the extra $100 isn't worth the advantages over standard milspec. Also, make sure the bolt itself is properly hardened. It should be shot peened. Dolomite

I'll let them carry it out to save 10%. I do try to buy from small stores but I will not pay a premium to do it either. Like buying online. I give local shops the chance at my business and most get an attitude for asking if they will match. There are local shops, Mike's, that can an do regularly beat online sellers. Two of the last three guns came from Mike's and the third was bought online because he couldn't get a Cricket pistol. Dolomite

If you are lucky a baffle strike only causes the bullet to miss the target. Worst case scenario it blows the guts out or pulls it off the end of the weapon. I have seen videos where it looked like it was loaded with explosives. Even a 22 can cause I repairable damage to a can regardless of material. That is why it is so important to have the barrel threaded concentric to the bore. You never want to use a die if you ever plan on using a suppressor, single point threads only. Dolomite

Is there anything you need? If so just PM me. Dolomite

The Pantera was the closest thing to a supercar that Ford sold. The GT is the current Corvette competition that Ford sells. Dolomite

They tried the IRS before and it was a flop. Dolomite

Mossberg 500/590 can be a pain in the butt to use with a pistol grip stock. The safety is on top of the receiver making it very difficult to manipulate. I sold my 500 for that reason only. I got tired of leaving it on fire so it was ready. Dolomite

22lr Suppressor
Dolomite_supafly replied to Major Kong's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
That is great, maybe we can do a side by side comparison. If I ever buy a 22 suppressor it will be a stainless Sparrow. Dolomite -
Yes, providing the dealer doing the transfer is also licensed to make Suppressors. A dealer who does transfers doesn't necessarily have the license to make them. If not then the can must be transferred back to the maker for repair. Then transferred back to the dealer. And all that takes time. I am unsure how that would affect the transfer from the dealer to the individual. Seems like at a minimum it would be put on hold. Worse case scenario would be to have to start the process again. And of the tube was damaged the $200, the wait and the suppressor are all gone. A manufacturer is not allowed to make replacements of the serialized parts although I think, but can't prove, that some do. OP, consider yourself very lucky. A little carbon is a lot better than any of the alternatives. Nonetheless I would sever all ties with that dealer AFTER you get you can in hand. I do believe he can still refuse to do the transfer and tell you to find another dealer which will only add time to the already lengthy weight. Dolomite

Already struck a deal with Rebeldrummer. Thanks Seth Dolomite And I will be there in the AM

What machine did you use to do this? I am kind of in the market for bigget stuff that what I got and always looking for input. Thanks Dolomite

WOW is all I have to say. I would be willing to bet it was way more than a couple of rounds. They are not going to take it to the range only to fire a couple of rounds. Suppressors have a lifespan and every round chips away at it. Did you notice any discoloring or obvious signs of heat? I would never use him again because if he feels comfortable enough to do this it is hard to say what else he has done. Hearing this I bet he takes unique or "cool" guns out to shoot regularly before the customers pick them up. I hate to say it but there is nothing you can do and you are probably going to be hit with an attitude when asking for anything in return. I would take your 15 year history and flush it down the drain. Dolomite

That is what we are gathered on this board for, to help each other out. I wish I new more about your shotgun but I have never really been a shotgun kind of guy. From a very early age I learned to shoot rifles and was pretty good at it. So for me a shotgun wasn't precise enough for me. I have always owned a shotgun and currently own one but I do not use them for hunting. Dolomite

I would avoid MOA adjustaments and go with MIL. With MIL calculations can be done in your head without being a MENSA member. Dolomite

To add to it the blue color could be from case hardening. That is distinguishable by the blue with brown around the edges. It was a [rpduct of the receiver being hardened in charcoal. Dolomite

If it is that old and the bluing is actually blue then it may have been refinished. In the times when those were made rust bluing was the most common way to finish a gun. And it would result, as the name inplies, a rust colored brown color not blue. Next time you are at a show look at some of the older guns and you will see what I am talking about. Those guns are not rusty, they have the proper finish for a gun that is 100+ years old. Dolomtie
