I didn't take any pictures while I was making it. But there is pleny of info as well as diagrams and videos online. As a matter of fact that is where I got my information and the motivation to do it myself. The hardest part for me was the wait for my Form 1 to come back. Then the next hurdle was learning to cut inside threads. After that outside threads. The baffles themselves are not all that hard to machine. Just follow a diagram and build it similar to it. None of my baffles are the same. They are different lengths because of differences in how they came out in the end. I duplicated these except mine do not have the "mouse hole" in the bell of the baffle. http://www.silencerr....com/tac_67.htm To silence a 22 isn't tht hard. The last time I cleaned my can I decided to try shooting it without the baffles. It was louder but not ringing loud on a pistol. Then I added baffles back and fired until it was not getting quieter. Turns out I do not need all the baffles I have because three were just as quiet as all of them that are in the can. I think volume has just as much to do with how a can performs as the baffle design. Here is another simple can design: http://www.silencerr..._custom_can.htm One could use freeze plugs to duplicate this can. The key would be finding freeze plugs that would fit snugly inside of the tube. Silencer research is an amazing site once you pay for membership. He has tested every silencer made in probably the last 10 years. And all the tests are on the same, level playing field. All his data is easily searched and categorized based on about a dozen different criteria. The membership, which is $30, is worth it to keep you from buying a crap suppressor. NFA items are lifelong purchases and $30 is nothing for something you will keep from the rest of your life. And between silencer research, which I paid for a membership, and http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/ I was able to get all the information I needed to build my own. Dolomite

Also, if anyone is running a cellular credit card machine a cell phone jammer will destroy them. The cellular credit card machines are designed to basically become permanently none functioning if they think they are being compromised. I know David had a machine ruined by a guy selling them at one of the gun shows. He called the CC company about it and they told him to buy another machine. And they run over $1,000. Turns out that single weekend the guy selling them ruined a bunch of vendors CC machines. Dolomite

Make a farraday cage customers have to go through in order to enter. That way they have to walk through it in order to enter and while in the cage they would loose signal. Not sure if how long the phone needs to go without a signal before it drops though. Dolomite

We were there once as well and came out of it. Unfortunately we are there again. We just don't stand in line anymore to get out handouts but they are handouts none the less. And they get that small amount in exchange for not being successful in life. Groups of people have sold their self respect and their success for was is not even minimum wage. If I were in that group I would be upset knowing I have been enslaved for such a small amount of money. The government wants to help everybody except those who want to succeed or are successful. And it is those who have succeeded in life who are paying for the enslavement of others. Amd at some point the successful are not going to support those who are not. Dolomite

That "finger indent" is actually for clearance for the ejection port cover latch. I have never used the FA on my personal gun, I have never closed the ejection port cover and most importantly I have not cleaned it in a few years and probably a thousand rounds. Dolomite

U.S. FAMILY JAILED FOR HOLDER'S GUN CRIMES
Dolomite_supafly replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wish in blatant cases like this the investigators could be charged criminally or at a minimum in civil court. How about if an officer accuses you of something and you are proven by a jury to be innocent the officer should be held responsible in civil court for out of pocket court costs. And in egregious cases, like this one, the officer should be help responsible criminally. If an officer knows they stand a chance of loosing some of their hard earned money they will make damn sure they have the evidence to support the arrest. There are officers that arrest people on a suspicion and without proof. In the years I was in LE I heard all the time "I don't care if they are innocent or guilty that is for the courts to decide". And while that is true there were officers would arrest people knowing full well the person wouldn't be convicted in hopes the arrestee would plea out to avoid jail time. I am not saying all officers do it but there are some that do. And those in LE know the officer type I am talking about. The one who makes constant arrests as you have a hard time finding anything close to the numbers they are. I guess I am at the top of the list, ex military, ex LE, I have a well, a pit bull and a "few" guns. Oh and we don't recycle and we drive an SUV. Dolomite -

I have been picking at the bushes that are lining our driveway. And the deeper I ventured into the painful, thorn filled, patches the better they seem to taste. I fight my way past the spiders and other insects at least once a day to gather a handful of that sweet, black goodness. And as I was picking out the thorns and tending to the bleeding scratches it occurred to me. How well a blackberriy tastes is directly proportional to how deep it is in its thorny lair. Yeah I could easily pick the small bitter or sour ones that are easy to get. But I want the big, succulent and sweet ones that can only be found in the deepest reaches of their unforgiving lair. Just thought I would pass this on to other blackberry lovers out there. Dolomite

One of the biggest criticisms of the Sport is the lack of forward assist and ejection port cover. Those items are easily replaced because the Sport is built to the same specs as every other AR out there. For under $200, including labor, you can replace the upper receiver with this features. Then you can sell your old upper for $50-$75 to offset the cost. Other than that I would say it is a gun I could trust after running a few hundred rounds down the tube. Most people choose their first AR based on their budget. And I will say that you need to buy the best you can afford. Alwaysonjohn makes a bunch of great points and all are valid. But for the budget minded person wanting to get into the AR game it is hard to beat the Sport. Dolomite

Like I have been saying the Sport is not the best rifle out there. It IS the best rifle for the money. I think people are thinking I am saying they are the best, they are not. But what they are is the best value in AR's. If I wanted the best it would be Noveske, DD, BCM, LWRC, as well as a few others. A person needs to decide what their budget is first and foremost adn that will determine what they get. It is not your need of something that determines whether you get it or not, it is your budget. I think I need a Lambogini but my budget says I can't afford it. Even if you think you need a $2,500 AR it is your budget that will determine whether you will get it or not. Not everyone can afford a $2,500+ AR, I know I can't, and for those who can't an $800 AR will work just fine for them. Dolomite

Even with a family and kids the transfer is free after you die. The only advantage I would see is adding friends and family to the trust so they could use your NFA items without you being present. They can also do what you could with the NFA items like selling them. And for me there isn't a family member outside of my household I would trust with Tic Tac much less my NFA stuff. There are friends I would trust but very few. Dolomite

Benefits of polygonal rifling. Caster? Dolomite? Anyone else?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Clod Stomper's topic in Handguns
I cast and shoot my own bullets so for that reason I would say polygon rifling is out. And even though you don't plan on casting it does make shooting much cheaper. It shouldn't be a problem casting and loading for under .15 a shot. They say that barrel life as well as velocity are increased with polygon rifling. I have never owned one so I do not know. For me the extra 100-200 fps isn't worth it because you can make that up with proper handloading techniques. And as far as barrel life are you really expecting to shoot it enough to wear out a barrel. And if that 100-200 fps is making you cast to the limits of case pressures then you need to go to a larger caliber. I know we taked about it but I honestly can't understand why the x40 over the BLK when there is plenty of support for the BLK. The ballisticas are identical except on the edge. If you plan on shooting subsonics mostly then they are equal. Dolomite -
I was told that a trust that is legal in Tennessee may not be legal in other states. Not a concern with most of us but if you move you might find yourself with NFA items that are not on a legal trust. This is one of the reasons why they assigned examiners to specific states. That way each examiner doesn't need to knew each states laws. I thought about using a trust but there is no benefit for me. I will always be with my NFA stuff. And when I pass the transfer to my heirs is free. Dolomite

They just announced she was given a 3 day vacation a Disney World. It was all inclusive and included 9 other people. Glad she is getting some happiness out of such a miserable case. And as I have said time and time again those who behave badly do not just wake up one day and start doing stuff like this. These kids have probably been doing that for a very, very long time. They got so comfortable that they taped it and posted it for all to see. That just shows arrogance on their part and an ignorance on how to be a responsible parent by the parents. They are also saying these kids are recieving thousands of negative calls regarding what they did. I am going out on a limb but the parents are going to be on TV soon claiming to be be victims and to leave poor little Johnny alone. To that I say you made your bed, enjoy how it feels to lay in in. I still can't wrap my mind around this. I know it is real but I just can't believe it. Dolomite

Actually the more resistance the higher the velocity. I now it sounds counterintuitive to everything logical but it is true. The key to velocity is pressure. The more pressure the more velocity. I know if I load into the throat on my bolt guns the velocity increases but when I have a jump the velocity goes down. As far as accuracy from the 5R, it has more to do with the individual barrel and how it is made than the type of rifling. But the 5R barrels are sought after for a reason. I have never used one and like my standard rifling but those who use the 5R barrels seem to think they shoot better. Also, just because something isn't milspec doesn't mean it is junk, just means it doesn't meet the criteria for the military's standard for that item. Magpul magazines are NOT milspec. Noveske barrels are NOT milspec. Monolithic uppers are NOT milspec. The majority of muzzle brakes and flash hiders out there are NOT milspec. The majority of the furniture for AR's is NOT milspec. The majority of BUIS's are NOT milspec. And the list goes on and on. But as I said milspec is the minimum standard for the military and doesn't means something is junk because it isn't milspec. I have a problem with manufactuers claiming something is built to milspec standards when in reality they are not. And any maker out there can say it is even though it isn't and as long as the military isn't the buyer they have done nothing wrong legally. And I honestly believe there are makers who intentionally mislead people by using the milspec term. Also what is funny is the mispec standard for government rifles is not public knowledge, only those who actually HAVE a government contract to produce them have the milspec "technical data package" in writing. And any maker who is going to use the TDP must sign a non disclosure agreement before receiving it. All other makers making guns to "milspec" are just guessing. And there are very few who have the TDP, Colt, FN and now Remington. And as a matter of fact Colt is no longer the supplier of M-4's to the government, Remington beat them, as well as 4 other bidders, in the recent contract bid for 24,000 rifles. So we are about to see Remington be the gun our troops are carrying rather than Colt. There are probably 10x the stocks out there for commercials tubes than for milspec tubes. Now granted a milspec tube can take either but the commercial stuff on a milspec tube will be a little loose. I am no engineer but I do believe a larger OD tube (commercial) is stronger than a thinner (milspec) tube roviding the wall thicknesses are the same. It is all semantics anyways realistically neither of them are weak enough to be an issue. As far as resale all the Sport rifles I have seen sell in the last 6 months have brought more then the purchase price. Now that may not be the case when the supply cathces up with demnd but I do not see that happening for at least a year, maybe longer. Having a castle nut not staiked just makes life easier. Almost everyone wants to put a sling plate on their gun and with a staked castle nut it can be a huge PITA to loosen the nut. Not sure if that is why they don't stake them but I would like to hope so. Feed ramps are not that big of a deal. The military did fine without them for decades. Barrel material is irrelevent with the melonite treatment. People love and rely on the Magpul isghts every day. And there are thousands of commercial Colt AR's out ther that DO NOT meet milspec standards. Every single large pin Colt AR is not milspec. And I do believe milspec for the FCG pins is .155" but a lot of rifles that Colt made commercially have .170" pins to prevent installation of FA parts. Check your rifle's FCG pins and if they are .170" then your Colt isn't milspec. And along with Colt's choice to use .170" FCG pins came a huge reduction in the selection of aftermarket triggers and hammers available. ' I am not saying the Sport is the greatest AR out there. I am saying for the money it is the greatest AR out there. Dolomite

It will cause ZERO cycling issues. I will say you need to open up the smooth bore of the cahmber insert if you want to improve accuracy. I did some measureing and determined most 22lr rounds start out at least .224" which is fine for a centerfire barrel. The I pushed a .225" bullet through the cahmebr insert and it swagged it down to .221" which is WAY too small for the barrel. After opening mine up it shot groups that most factory guns will. Now I agree that the school system should not be allowed to spank my child. I am the only one who should be allowed to physically punish my child. But what they should do is require the parent(s) to arrive in person at the school within 2 hours of the call or face fines or maybe jail time. After a parent has to leave work a few times, looses money or even go to jail because of their out of control child then maybe they will take their job as parent more seriously. Dolomite

It was signed into law in 2003 that the CLEO has 15 days to sign the request. You can print this off and attach it to the paperwork: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/acts/103/pub/pc0275.pdf If that doesn't work contact the state attorney general and forward the sheriff's name to them. We had a sheriff that refused to sign until they found out the legalities of it through the attorney general. This might be the case here. Maybe your CLEO doesn't realize they are legal. Dolomite

If my child had ever done something like that he would not be on the bus for a while because I would make it impossible for him to sit. This is a women who spent a lifetime serving children and this is what she has to endure, unthinkable. I can't even imagine doing that or standing by while someone did that. If I were her I would have them charged to the full extent of the law but at a minor so the records will be ealed once they were adults. Maybe if they spent some time in a place where they were bullied they would understand. If I were the judge I would order them wear orange vests saying "I am a bully" while in school. Won't be long until they become the victims. I still can't wrap my mind around this. It is just inconceivable for me to imagine something like that happeneing. Dolomite

And getting a bullet stuck in the barrel isn't that bad providing you notice it. I have stuck a lot of bullets in the bore and they all come out easier than a tight fitting cleaning patch. It is when you start stacking them in the bore that you run into problems. I once stuck three 180 grain 30 calibers bullets in a bore, one behind the other. There was no knocking them out so I had to use a LONG drill bit to drill a hole in the first one. Then use a screw attached to a rod to pull them out. It took about 10 seconds to realize my mistake and about 3 hours to correct it. Luckily the bore was fine and it still shot very well afterwards. Dolomite

I thought you said you were going to keep it completely stock. Now you have gone and added QD mounts for your scope. I knoww you say you are done and I am sure you mean it, Dolomite

How to make those CB's even quieter
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Most 22 bullets vary so much that most guns have a very loose headspace to make the reliable with all of them. Add that to a bullet that does not seal well to the chamber and you get blowby. There is a fair amount of blowby from the port. and in a rifle without a suppressor it is even louder that the report at the muzzle. Under "normal" circumstances the pressure of firing swells the case mouth and seals the gases in but the CB doesn't have enough pressure to do this. Dolomite -
Today my plan is to use the powder to load 40 grain V-Max bullets to 3,600 fps. I am going to start at 26.5 and work up from there. I should be OK because 26.6 is what I used for 53 SMK's. I will come back and edit this post with the data. Dolomite
