Something else about meth users. When they are arrested they almost immediately get approached by other meth users incarcerated. The incarcerated inmates are willing to do anything or give up anything to drink the urine of the new arrestees. There is enough meth left in the urine of a current user to get a person high. You know something is addictive when you are willing to drink the urine from a complete stranger and pay for it. My brother is a long time user. He, at one point, bragged about all the drugs he took. At one point he was drinking, using marijuana, meth, oxy, crack and said if he could get it heroin. In the end he got so far in debt to all the dealers in our area that he sold EVERYTHING he owned. And when that was goin he basically took anything of value that could be pawned from our parents and sold that. Then he would tell them what pawn shop the items were in so they could get there stuff back only to have him repeat the process. And once my parents got wise to that my brother was able to apply and get approved for several loans online with my parents information. My parents are probably still paying on those. My mother told me there were $50K in debt because of my brother. This is not the worst part. During this whole process my brother has made threats to hurt them as well as himself. My mother, being the mother she is, felt bad so she would give in and continued to give him money. And this was despite the fact my brother would assault her in some of the most heinous ways imagineable. I never knew about a lot of this and my brother would call my wife and I wanting money to take "krystal" out on a date. We are talking about a LOT of moeny. We later realized it was his joke because the money was for meth or crystal as he normally called it. And on top of that my mother would borrow money that we later found out were for my brother as well. We are talking hundreds of dollars they would "borrow" with no intentions of paying any of it back. This went on for years then in June of 2009 I told my mother and my brother I would not give them cash ever again. I went on to say that I would buy them whatever they needed like cigarettes, gas or food. Then they didn't call or speak to me months because of it and my brother told anyone who would listen that he was going to kill me because I would not let him "borrow" money any more. Then in late September my father called me and said my brother had a shotgun and would not let him leave. I contacted LE and they said there was no probable cause for them to check on my father. And then when my father found out I had contacted LE he told them I was telling him classified government secrets. And my father knew that is one way to get at me because of what and who I worked for allowed me access to secret information. I was investigated and questioned regarding that and probably came close to being arrested because of what he told them. And the next time I spoke to my father he went on to say he would kill my family and I if I ever called the cops again on my brother or had them come to his house. Step forward about two weeks frm the incident where my father called me. I get a call from the local sheriff's office. They said my brother was on a rampage and ahd assaulted our mother. They said close all curtains and get to the center of the house. I immediately did that then called back with one question, was he armed. The officer said he had an AK and they were on the phone with my brother. He officer said he was saying he was going to kill my family and I. And luckily before he made it to our house the officers responded and my brother ran into the woods. That is when the standoff began. My brother was telling the officers he was going to kill them and to "bring it on". At the same time I walked out of my house and was challenged byt a SWAT team in the creek in front of our house. After about 3 hours my brother came out of the woods with an AK. The officers ordered him to drop it but he refused but they tackled him rather than shoot him. He was using meth at the time. And here is how he gets away with it. He was able to convince a doctor he hears voices. So every time he gets arrested, no matter how serious, his criminal charges get dropped and he is ordered for a mental evaluation. He generally speends a few weeks in Lakshore then is released. Or at least up until about a year ago. Now he is being arrested and spends time in jail. He is on probabtion for domestic violence for assaulting our 66 year old mother. I cannot get involved because of my father trying to have me arrested. And the last time I called the cops when my brother assaulted our mother I was the bad guy for calling the cops on him. Most recently my wife and I were at the hospital as out niece was passing away from a car accident. My brother was making it all aobut him because my nice was getting all the attention. He was animated in the hospital and when security talked to him he got upset at the only person he could abuse, our mother. So my mother walks outside to get away from him and he gets in her face and begins yelling as well as acting like he is going to hurt her. My wife told my brother "now is not the time" to which my brother went into a tirade of cussing then tried to attack my wife. Security placed him in handcuffs and my mother told us that we have a vendetta against my brother and that everything that happened was our fault. My parents have allowed my brother to get this bad and they let him remain in the house. So it is now their bed and they can sleep in it because every single time they have asked for me to help I am the bad guy when I do. My parents have become codependent on my brother and relish the sympathy they get by others. My father is a vindictive, abusive ###hole that will find a special place in hell. They think that every time he gets arrested it is my doing. A few friends of his and I got together to help him out. I was going to pay for treatment, my choice of facilities. Another friend was going to rent a house for him for one year that included utilities. Another friend offered him a job and all he needed to do is show up. And another friend was going to give him a car. He was going to get all of this if he sent into treatment and completed it. My brother refused. This is only a drop in the bucket of what my brother has done while on meth. My parents are screwed up, especially my father, and have been for a very long time. They have done some pretty brutal stuff to our son in the past as well. And now they wonder why he will not visit or talk to them. Anyways, it is a wonder we are not crazy with everything we have had to deal with because of my brother and my parents. But our story is not the worst I am sure. Dolomite

Not the normal question about buying a handgun out of state
Dolomite_supafly replied to MadMarx's topic in Handguns
I have bought a pistol from a Kentucky dealer at the show at the Expo Center in Knoxville. After paying for the gun the dealer then told me I needed to have a Tennessee dealer do the transfer. So we walked over a few tables and a Tennessee dealer took possession of the pistol then had me do the paperwork. It kind of pissed me off at first because the Kentucky dealer never mentioned he was an out of state dealer. It was only after I paid for the gun he said it was mine but he couldn't give it to me. That is when he said his friend would do the transfer, which was $50. In the end I was happy but the cost of everything together was above what a Tennessee dealer was selling the same gun for. Had I known in the begining the dealer was from Kentucky I would have never purchased it or at least asked a few questions. Makes me wonder how many other customers he snookered that weeked. What should happen is reduce the amount of benefits by 25% each year. Set a maximum number of years they can receive benefits in their life, say 60 months total. If they choose to use them at 18 then they are out of luck after that. If you are. If you are not here legally you receive ZERO benefits no matter the circumstances. Everyone has had at least one time in their lives where benefits would have helped them. Problem is those people have a hard time getting them because of those who use the programs long term even when they may not need them. And another big problem is if you qualify for one program that generally qualifies you for the rest. People should have a cap on how much they can receive rather than be given thousands of dollars of assistance between all the programs. I know it is an invasion of privacy to some but two random drug tests a year should be performed to check for illegal substances. If they are receiving public funds they should not be able to use them to commit a crime. And for those who think it is an invasion of privacy, you don't have to agree to take the drug tests it we don't have to agree to fund your illegal activity. And finally, make it mandatory that the card holder be present for all purchases. As it stands right now in Tennessee it is against the rules for a retailer to ask for ID when someone uses an EBT card. And because of this there are a lot of people sellin their benefits. Dolomite

Start out well below the minimum for the CFE load data for 308. Probably at least 2 grains lower. Then watch for pressure or the best way is over a chronograph. Dolomite

Edited, a bit to much information for around here. Dolomite -
The deal with the Hughes ammendment was this. There are two ways to vote a "by name" vote and a "voice" vote. A voice vote is used to speed up the voting process otherwise they need to wait on everybody who is present to vote. And a voice vote is basically whichever side yells the loudest wins the vote. When the Hughes ammendment came up the Republicans wanted a by name vote. But Charlie Rangel, being the speaker at the time, chose to hold a voice vote on the ammendment. He did this probably because he knew it would not pass a by name vote. But when it came up for vote the "nahs" overwhelmingly won by all accounts but Charlie Rangle, being the judge of which side yelled the loudest, declared the "yeahs" have it. And then the Hughes ammendment passed. Even Democrats at the time were saying it did not pass. There are so many tricks and tactics used by both sides. And this is because almost every representative is a lawyer of some sort. And they are able to read and understand all the legal speak and use it against us. There are a lot of people who are using NFA items to fund their retirment as well as using it as the basis their businesses. And for this reason I do not believe it will ever get repealed. There are way too many people who would lobby against it for financial reasons alone. I would love to see a push to make it legal to make a MG again. And in a time when the government obviously needs money they should make it legal to do so and hire in about 5,000 more examiners to reduce the wait times to days rather than months. I will say there is a push by a lot of MAJOR manufacturers of suppressors to have them removed from requirement to be approved by the ATF. I honestly hope they do because the cost of suppressors will drop to 1/4 what it is right now. Dolomite

I love you too and I can't imagine myself without you. Dolomite -
Dang it Mike, you probably just cost me some more money. I just spent money on the lightweight AR that just got finished yesterday and haven't even shot it yet, then I ordered all the stuff for a BLK bolt gun when I haven't even shot my 7.62x39 bolt yet and now it looks like I am going to have to have an AR in BLK but hopefully I will get to shoot it. And then on top of that it is going to cost me even more because I am going to have to send off a Form 1 for the 30 caliber can. You are going to put me in the dog house before this is over and done with. Actually probably not, my wife enjoys this stuff almost as much as I do. Dolomite

I hear the barrels are the same as Savage. If that is the case it WILL be a shooter. Another great feature about them is you can swap in Savage barrels in other calibers if you want. It is something you can do at home in under 20 minutes if you wanted to ever change calibers. Dolomite

Thanks. Me being a mod is not going to change how I have acted since coming to the sight. What it does do is gives me access to tools to help our community. Dolomite

If you like to tinker then, without a doubt, get the 10/22. It is like an adults lego set. anything can be replaced by you to build what you want. If you are not a tinkerer and want something that is ready to go then get either the Savage or the CZ. Either one is going to be a great shooter. But other than stocks there isn't a whole lot out there for them. Maybe a few mounts and maybe a trigger improvement. Dolomite

Anyone heading to Knoxville from Nashville?
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I want to say thanks to TrickyNicky for bringing me the gun. We spent about 20 minutes talking and he is a great guy even though he comes from California . And once I got the gun I gave it to the smith at Predator so he can make whatever repairs it needed before going to his 7 year old nephew who doesn't have one. ANd thinking back to when I was 7 having a gun at that age no doubt shaped me into what I am today. Hopefully this gift will do the same for his nephew. The smith was talking about rebarreling it or maybe installed some nice peep sights before giving it to his nephew. And all of this would have not been possible without Paletiger. I would like to thank him for thinking of me but most importantly being so open to the gun being passed onto what is hopefully going to be life long shooter. Thanks again to TrickyNicky and Paletiger. Dolomite -
It goes along with their other rulings from a few years ago. I used to hunt and oust phonies all the time then when the SCOTUS made them wearing and lying about the awards legal under the first ammendment it slowed my vigor. And although it is legal for these pieces of slime to wear the awards they did not earn it is also perfectly legal for us to embarrass them for doing so. The worst part isn't those wearing awards they haven't earned, it is the fact that by doing so it cheapens the awards given to our real heros in uniform. And it is still illegal to receive money or benefits based on the lies these phonies tell. Dolomite

So I copper plated some bullets today
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I just plated them as they were cast. They were cast a few weeks ago so some may have had some oils on it from my fingers but it still coated the bullets pretty well. Like I said if I do a high amp reverse polarity for about 30 seconds it seem to help the copper adhere to the lead in a more even manner. It is still not as pretty as commercially plated or jacketed ammo but I suspect mine will work as good as those for keeping the lead from fouling the bore. Dolomite -
So I copper plated some bullets today
Dolomite_supafly replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The wire is just there as the positive electrode, not a sacrificial anode. The Root Killer is 99.9% Copper Sulfate and the other .1% is inert ingredients. As the positive ions move towards the negative electrode it grabs copper and deposits it ont the negative electrode as well as anything touching it that is conductive. I messed with the currents some more. I was able to figure out a setup that deposits the copper in a very uniform and smooth manner. It no longer has a rough finish. It takes a little longer but gives a much nicer results. I did try a high amperage setup and the bullets turned black and were coated with copper withing 20 seconds. But the problem is doing it that fast the copper doesn't adhere as well. As a matter of fact you can shake the bullets under water and the majority of the copper will fall off. I also reversed the polarity with the high amperage setup and that smoothed the surface of the bullet. And when I plated the bullets after that step they turned out very nice. I am not sure about have lead pulled from the bullets and into the solution or how that is going to affect it. The "high" amperage setup was a 7.2 volt and 2,200 MaH batteyr from an RC car. It would literally boil the surface of the bullets. The "correct" amperage is a 4.8 volt with .9 amps. Even the car battery worked but it was too fast and made the surface too rough for my tastes. I have used this method before except to deposit steel onto steel. With that one I use washing soda to make the water more condictive. I had steel rods as the positive and were sacrificial. The more you plated the more they were eaten away and the material deposited on the negatively charged items. It actually replaced rust with steel and worked really well. I took some guns that were so rusty they could not be cocked or even opened. After about 20 minutes in the slution at 55 amps and 220 volts the guns came out and were able to be cocked and opened. Nothing wrong with 8 twist but I feel 10 twist is better suited for what I am doing with it. I just made a case trimmer for the BLK using an extra 7.62x39 trimmer. I had to drill the hole for the pin a little deeper to support the pin. After trimming the body of the case trimmer back the pin fell out. But now it is done and looks great. I tried using solder to hold the pin in but I ended up just staking it in place. Time will tell if it is durable but it should be good enough for now. It will trim at 1.360". I could go shorter but I want as much neck as possible to support the cast bullets I will be shooting. And I suspect with the subsonics I plan on shooting the pressures will not be excessive which should keep case growth in check. I am going to use a Harbor Freight mini chop say to cut cases. I just did one and it will be easy to do providing I keep my fingers out of it. http://www.harborfreight.com/bench-top-cut-off-saw-42307.html And now I am totally done for the day. Already did too much today so now it is time to go back to bed for a few hours to try to make my back tolerable again. Dolomite

The other board, ARFCOM, has turned into a bunch of head strong jerks in the last few years. Not all of them are like that but their population of members has grown and changed the feel of the board in the last five years. It used to be a great board then it seemed like a lot of immature posters flooded it. After that it seems like it has turned into a group competing for the prize of who has the biggest "member". And along with that they think they need to be argumentative, overbearing and arrogant. ARCOM's demise has occurred mostly since the "tactical" craze took off. Some members feel they need to spend thousands of dollars on their AR or they are not a true "operator". Then they make sure to let everyone know if it isn't Larue this or Daniel Defense that, then it is junk. The sight is a great sight but if you post anything and you have less than 1,000 posts be prepared to be belittled. And if you must go there stay out of general, it is the worst. But all of the weapons sections are pretty good and most people there are decent. I was very actve on there, like here, but I let mymembership lapse and rarely go there anymore because I don't want the arguments of grammar or the clip vs. magazine diatribes. Dolomite

Also, my gun will only be firing the heaviest cast bullets I can find. And despite all this talk about using a 8 twist I went with a 10 twist. The reason is it WILL stabilize the 230 grain cast bullet I ordered a mold for. I will be copper plating the bullet to keep leading down. I will be shooting mostly cast, at all weights, which will stabilize better than a jacketed bullet even if both are the same length. A 10 twist will also stabilize jacketed 220 grain bullets as long as they are not the VLD types. And why choose a 10 twist over a 8 twist? Because, as with AR's, too fast of a twist and the bullet will just pass through the "soft" target. And with the bullets travelling as slow as they are the penetration will be measured in FEET, not inches, with the BLK. Here is a good chart showing velocity vs. penetration with 30 caliber bullets: http://stevespages.c.../bestbullet.jpg Notice the Sierra ProHunter penetrating over five, YES 5, feet when the velocity drops below a ceratin point. And even the Remington at 1,400 fps still makes it 21". And these number are in flesh, not newspaper or ballistic ge With a 10 twist almost every bullet I shoot will tumble inside a "soft" target rather than just pass through. And when they tumble I will have a wound channel that will be over 1" in most cases versus a pass through wound channel that isn't much larger than the bullet if at all. And even as velocity drops tumbling becomes more likely while HP's it becomes less likely. I have done a lot of testing in the past with subsonic 308 bullets and before I shot 180 grain bullets I shot out of a 7.62x25 bolt gun. That bullet at 1,050 would tumble in 6"-10" of water with the 10.625" twist. I am hoping to duplicate whcih it should because the difference between the two calculations using the Miller formula is .07, 1.89 vs. 1.82. And the 180 Tokarev load was a 1/2" shooter at 100 yards. I am very hopeful my cast bullets will do at least twice that. I will probably use a 17" barrel and make it similar to my wife's 45 ACP bolt gun. I am thinking I will make install iron sights and zero them for 50 yards. Then I may add a Matech sight and check the 200-600 yard elevation adjustments to see what ranges they correspond to with the subsonic 230 cast bullets. I may also try an optic while testing but I think I will use irons because of a newfound respect for iron sights. I have spent the better part of a decade looking through optics and up until recently I have forgotten how fun, reliable, accurate and useful they really are Dolomite

Plating is easier than casting. I spent some time yesterday and today figuring things out. I have figured out the correct current to get a nice finish. Casting isn't much harder either. If I can do it anyone can. And if you want to talk about anything let me know and I will be glad to help you out. Caster is an Albert Einstein to casting compared to me. Dolomite

I also ordered a 230 grain mold so I can cast bullets and with the recent copper plating project means I will have plenty of bullets. Dolomite
