  1. Glad you got the rifle you wanted. Whether it be an AK or and AR the biggest priority is to get what you want and what will fill your needs. Be it a weekend shooter or a home defense gun the Sport will fill that role nicely. And not the real fun begins because you can buy every accessory imagineable for your AR to set it up how tou like it. Heck, there is even a tactical, rail mounted bottle opener. Not that I am condoning drinking and shooting but they are available. And if you have ANY questions regarding the AR platform feel free to ask. The only silly quesion is the question not asked. And if you think it is still too silly to post PM me and I will give you my number. Dolomite
  2. Something else to think about. The two worst things in the world, at least in my eyes, is a liar and a thief. We have tons of laws making it illegal to steal. Why not do the same for those that lie with intent to gain something? I can deal firmly and directly with a thief but a liar not so much.I just avoid those who are proven to be liars or even those I think might have lied about something. Dolomite
  3. The world would be a better place if we could call it as it is. If stupid people knew they were actually really stupid maybe they would try to at least appear less stupid. And if a lazy person were to be called lazy maybe they would get off their butt and quit being lazy. We should be able to say what we want about someone as long as it is one truthful and two using words that are in a English language dictionary. But when people get their feelings hurt, even if it is true, they sue. And that is a drain on our legal system and only serves to empty the pockets of honest people while lining the pockets of the ambulance chaser attorneys. Now not all ambulance chasers are attorneys but some are. They will get some pro bono attorney to sue knowing he will get the lions share of the award, especially if the case drags on. The problem with being politically correct is it is up to the person you are talking about whether is is politically correct. And those receiving it will find fault in what is being said even if everything that is said is 100% truthful. Imagine how the Presidential campaign would go if lying would make them forfeit the presidential bid. Most of BS that spews from their pie holes would stop. Dolomite
  4. We, as a nation, have trained our enemies both before and after we have went to war with them. We have done it for a very, very long time. Realize too that there may be alternative reasons for us to invite them. No better way to determine the capabilities of the enemy than to invite them then inspect their equipmet up close a personal. I think a lot of these joint training missions with our former enemies is to gauge how we stand against them and not to train them to defeat us. It also gives a look inside of their tactics which we could use against them or implement ourselves. I know I was involved in training Iraqi soldiers in 1997-1999. And this was on US soil and in US military schools. Dolomite
  5. It was great to meet everyone who was present. I learned a lot from WD-40 as well as Timestepper and now I just need to kill something to practice. It was also great letting the kids shoot my guns, both the little kids and the big ones. Hopefully we can have another get together at some point. I am thinking maybe a get together for the kids to come out and shoot 22's. Dolomite
  6. Well I made a neck sizing die this morning using a Lee Collet die for a 7.62x39 Here are the measurements in case you want to duplicate it. The decapping pin shaft, not including the pin itself:1.99" With the pin: 2.45" The portion that actually squeezes the bullet (it has the caliber marking on it and has fingers): 1.26" It sizes down to within a few .001" of where the Lee "all in one" die bumps the shoulder. With the shorter length it may not work with your press with a locking ring. I know with the Hornady lock-n-load bushing adapter and a Lee Classic Cast I cannot lock it down using a ring. I wull just use blue Loctite to keep it in place. DO NOT cut the outer shell as it has a shoulder that holds the guts in place. Dolomite
  7. The biggest and most well known fraud is Jessie Macbeth. He made videos detailing everything then was ousted pretty bad. Funny thing is I will never forget his face and he was on Judge Judy a few months back being sued over stuff a POS would do. Look him up and you will see what a fake sounds like. Dolomite
  8. Thanks for the information. I am debating on just buying another bolt gun just to have something different. I have and build Savages so that is what I know and have parts for but I think I might look for something new. I have a barrel blank coming so it doesn't matter what the action is, I just need to find one. Dolomite
  9. We actually, meaning the members and not the mods, police our own pretty well. The mods only get involved when asked to or if we see something that needs our immediate attention. And the biggest thing is everyone here acts like an adult even though they may just be big kids at heart. Dolomite
  10. One of the biggest tell tale signs for me is when people say that what they did in the military was top secret but tell of their brazen exploits. First and foremost there isn't a job in the military that is top secret. Now some of the stuff they did might be classified but not your job or telling someone what it was. Then I pretend to get excited and ask stuff like, did they black it out or cover up what you did on your DD204? And most times they respond with "yes". Anyone who is in the military knows it is a DD214, not DD404 and that it is detailing awards as well as what kind of benefits you may be entitled to and they are NEVER have parts blanked off, at least not the one the member receives upon exit from the service. Now I have blanked off parts of my DD214 when giving it to employers and such but that was to protect personal information. Another thing I do for Army guys is just ask "MOS?". Any Army guy will know exactly what I am asking but those who haven't been in the Army will give a deer in headlights look. Another big indicator for me is when people combine services when describing their job. Like Special Forces SEAL or Marine Airbonre Ranger. Believe me these guys are pretty dumb. And almost every phonie I have talked to is a sniper. Not sure what it is about wanting to be a sniper but they are all wanting to be a sniper. And another indicator is their age vs their rank or job vs rank. I had a couple of kids, under 20 for sure, that had E-7 rank on talking about their explouts in Iraq. I listened for a minute or two not realizing they were phonies then I seen them both wearing E-7 rank. I said "you are kind of youg to be E-7 aren't you?". Got a blank stare. Then I pointed at their rank on their uniform. Then they made some comment I can't remember and I told them they were full of crap. They began to walk away as I yelled loud enough for others to hear me say they were phnies at which point they both took off in a dead sprint for their car. Turns out they were taking to couple of fireman about their exploits as firemen which were full of crap to according to the real firemen. Had another guy claiming to be Army SF. I asked if he was enlisted ot officer and he said officer, a 1st LT. Problem was you cannot be a member of SF as a LT, yu must be at least a Captain to attend selection. And another indicator of someone who is full of crap is if there DD214 has more than one type of writing or typing on it. The DD214 is done at one time on and on one machine. I have seen fake copies of DD214's where they have doctored it up. The fakes who disgust me the most are people who actually served their country and have nothing to be ashamed about yet embellish. I have seen it a lot, a cook, mecahnic or truck driver claiming to be something they are not. I have always had more respect for the support soldiers because without them we couldn't fight our way out of a paper bag. And in those cases where I know the fake is lying but he still swears it is true I will get a copy of his service records to prove him wrong. I had one guy say he was SF in Vietnam. Turned out he was National Guard for about 6 months before getting kicked out of that in a time of war. He spent a few months in Germany as a photographer before getting his general discharge. And after I presented him with his own records showing he was a fake he came up with the same BS as most who get caught, that ia a fake record to hide what I really did. Anyways I hate fakes. And as I said before it might be legal for them to wear and tell stories it is also legal for us to tell them they are full of crap as well. These people do it for attention and when you embarrass them with negative attention they generally think twice before doing it again but they will do it again and again. Here is great place to research fakes: http://www.pownetwork.org/phonies/phonies.htm They have helped me out a lot over the years. I have given them donations to help keep this going. Read some of the fakes, you will be amazed at what these guys say. Dolomite
  11. Yes you can. If not then we would all be acting like the animals we all are inside. It was through slow conditioning over time that we all have changed. Dolomite
  12. I was not going to sell anything of mine or put him in contact with individuals. I was going to try to find the best price at dealers. Kind of hard to charge me with trafficking when I send someone a PM saying a dealer has a firearm in stock that someone is looking for. As a person who has seen the problems with the "gunshow loophole" on a very personal level I still support private sales. My brother, who has three seperate reasons not to be in possession of firearms, walks into the shows and buys guns. Then he uses those guns to threaten our mother and father. I would love for this lunatic of a meth addict to never be able to buy a gun again but I would never sacrifice the rights of law abiding citizens to prevent him from doing so. But I can see the issue with not performing backgrounds on individuals. Maybe the key is not doing a check at the time of the sale but before that covers any future purchases.Something that might be a compromise is an endorsement on our driver's license. Just something to show that we do not have a disqualifier in our history. That way we could still conduct private transactions without the need for anyone knowing what we have other than the seller. And use this system to eliminate the need for the current background check. Basically walk into a store, show your endorsement and leave with your gun without the ened for a background check or the $10 fee. Now I know that people might get introuble between renewals but it is still better than the two extremes both sides want. Most people would not take as soft of an approach on the issue as I do had they been through what I have been through. I know everyone doesn't want any sort of involvement by the government in the private sale of firearms but wait until you have something as serious as what happened to my family and I in 2009. Getting a call from LE saying your brother is coming to kill you tends to change opinions and it was at least 5 years prior to this that my brother had at least two disqualifying reasons. Dolomite
  13. Funny, this is showing my age but I remember it as well. I was a bit younger than you when I watched it though. Dolomite
  14. Let me use my magical search foo for the good of the board now. Wait a minute while I find the nearest phonebooth. Dolomite
  15. You could start a WTB thread detailing what you are looking for. Make sure to put in there to contact you via PM with pricing, almost like a closed bid auction except in reverse. Or how the gov't receives bids on their contracts. Or maybe ask for the help from members here. I am sure members here have seen what you want and can probably steer you in a direction to find what you want. BTW, what are you looking for? I can sometimes amaze myself at what I can find. 16. How does the Howa do at ejecting 300 BLK brass? I know some brands can have issues because of the short BLK case. I plan on doing a Savage unless there is a better platform. There is an EASY fix for the Savage but maybe it is time to find another brand. What bottom metal is that on the Howa? I have exactly ZERO experience with the 300 BLK, especially so with a bolt gun. What bolt gun do you think would work best for a dedicated 300 BLK? I know Savage can have issues as well as Remington. Dolomite
  17. My son, who is an hour south of Atlanta, said it was 105 with the "feels like" temperature being 120. I know on Kingston pick as we drove back home the temperature gauge showed 107 degrees. The only thing making it even barely bearable is the fact we have a very low humidity. If it were to rain there would be people dropping like flies. But even so people need to drink, and definitely not alcohol, if they are going to be outside. And water alone may not be enough. This is the hottest I can remember. And who wants to be the first to kick Al Gore in the nuts for introducing the idea of global warming to mother nature. Dolomite
  18. Well if you are sick at least it is easier for you to get well. Dolomite
  19. I wouldn't prevent anybody from doing anything they don't want to providing it doesn't hurt anyone else. As far as making someone do something, who am I to force my will upon another. Dolomite
  20. Depends on the ammo. Most people say 16" is ideal but I am not so sure. Here is the website that answered the question but as I said ammo type can extend or shorten the perfect barrel length. http://ballisticsbytheinch.com/ Dolomite
  21. Actually the Stevens 200 was the accuracy king of all the budget rifles. It was exactly the same as Savage except without the accutrigger. Dolomite.
  22. And you might the one that bursts my ban hammer cherry with comments like that. Just kidding and I appreciate everyone's support. Dolomite
  23. Absolutely nothing! I thought hard about accepting the spot as a moderator on here. I weighed the positives and the negatives. And for me the most important negative to consider was this. How others will now view me? Some people see any type of authority as the "enemy". That really worried me then I realized I have no more authority over those that matter to this board than what I did before. In all my years, doing all the various jobs and most of them being in a position of authority of some sort I can honestly say this. I don't let authority swell my head as is too often the case. If anything it makes me more humble. I want members of the board to realize I am here for them, just as I have always been. Without you guys, and girls, the board would not be what it is. I am not here to spank people or treat them any differently than before. This board is for you and by you and it is you that will continue to make it what it is today. We police our own pretty well and the only time I will intervene is when I am asked to or if I see something so egregious that it has to be dealt with immediately. I am the same person as before except a few letters have changed describing the position I hold here. I will still help out anyone I can just as before. I will still give my number to anyone who wants to talk. I also want people to know that I am still approachable in the same way as before. I enjoy meeting members as often as I can because, believe it or not, we are a family. An extended family but we all know eachother's quirks and mannerisms because of how we post. Also, don't think that because I am a mod on here that you can't speak your mind around here or even argue with me. That is what makes this place great, the flow of ideas back and forth even though they may not be the same as another member. We are growing everyday with great people and if we can keep it the way it is right now it will continue to be a great place for us to gather. As a mod I hope to make this place better but honestly I can't see my being a mod will make it any better than what is already is, not because of any single person but because of all the members here. And if anyone has a problem please let me know so I can fix it. I promise you will get a response from me. And as I said in the begning I am not going to change a thing. Dolomite
  24. Welcome aboard. You will find this place to be full of knowledgeable and nice folks. Glad to have you here. Dolomite
