  1. Wow, You know what. In light of my recent injury to my thumb I think I need to sue the knife maker for producing a knife with such a sharp blade. After all it was that extremely sharp blade that cut me and not my careless handling of it. Dolomite
  2. I just did a search for bill 2575. It has ZERO to do with cybersecurity and has ZERO mention of magazines. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s2575And It was introduced by Feinstein during this congress. She wants to reduce the cost of her putters. Diane Feinstein is not a cosponsor on anything related to high capacity magazines. All other 2575's are from previous sessions. What people need to realize is that every session they have to start out new. So every year when a new session starts the same bills are often introduced. The bill number for one thing one year may be something totally different for the following year. If it doesn't pass in the session it is introduced it is laid to bed and it will liely be reintroduced the following year. People need to realize there are literally thousands upon thousands of bills introduced and very few actually pass. Do you think they start out at 2500 and go from there, not they don't there are thousands of introduced bills before they get to that number because they actually start out at 1 and then go from there. I know HR1022 was sent in emails for years as a call to arms but it only involved guns for a single year, 2007. Even to this day you can do a search for HR1022 on the internet and it is full of fear mongering. But this session HR 1022 is has to do with the Buffalo Soldiers in parks study. The Cybersecurity bill was introduced long before Aurora and has actually passed the house as of April. It DOES NOT contain any mention of highcapacity magazines or anythign else weapon related. Again more fear mongering. The high capacity bills are introduced several times each year and have been since the AWB expired in 2004. There is nothing to see here that is not normal. No more legislation than normal. Dealers are now going to use fear mongering to try to sell high capacity magazines for a lot more than what they are worth. I seen it when Obama was elected, one dealer SELLING (yes selling) CCI Stingers for $27 a box of 50. His catch was that they were "pre June" and didn't go bad in 6 months like the "post June" ammo. Of course it was BS but there were people buying his BS as well as his ammo. Had we not bought from people like this at a profit they would have not even thought about continuing doing it. I even seen a dealer selling, yes selling, "greentip" ammo for $750/1,000. Problem was they Walmart ammo that someone had hand painted the bullets on. Even my wife mentioned they looked odd and they were because the green was offset or barely dipped or the whole bullet was dipped. I can't wait to see the next show. People are going to be selling those $10 magazine for $50 because they are "Pre Aurora" or some BS like that. Or 223 ammo because they are going to ban in in light of the Aurora shooting. I suspect I am going to spend a lot of time calling BS. We are our own worst enemies!!! Dolomite
  3. I know the 300 BLK can be made hearing safe. This one is amazing. Dolomite
  4. WOW, a shop had them for this price? That is pretty amazing and you will have no problem coming out ahead in this deal. Dolomite
  5. While not the same I had something happen that could have been real bad for a utility worker. I was in our old house. I was taking a piss and saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked to see a scruffy looking guy jump our fence and run towards our house. I immediately ran outside and yelled at him as he was running away. I can't remember if I had a gun on me or not but it woud have been odd if I didn't. He stopped and I asked what he was doing on my property, He said reading the meter. I asked where his truck was as well as his uniform. He said he was contracted to read meters so he doesn't wear a uniform. I asked for his ID and he showed me. I then tore into him about jumping the fence. He said it was easier to jump the fence then to pull into our driveway. I told him he was lucky our 100 pound American Bulldog wasn't out otherwise he would have had a really bad day. He agreed from that point forward to come into our driveway when he needed to enter the property. Step forward, we built our current house in 2003 and have been here ever since. The meter is on the side of the house so the people who read the meters have to come onto our property to read it. The same guy did it for a long time and he would just pull up, get out and read the meter. We have told him several times to honk the horn so we can make sure we don't accidentally let the dogs out while he is here. He never did, at least not until the "incident". My wife did not notice the guy had pulled onto our property. The dogs wanted to go out so she let them out. Then she heard yelling and screaming. Our small, 48 pound, pitbull was trying to make her way to him as he beat the ground with a stick to keep her at bay. Our 80+ pound boxer was our pitbull's cheering section. My wife went out to se what was going on and finally got the pitbull to back off. The guy seemed a bit upset. He told us to call and have a remote meter installed. A few phone calls later and we had our meter and the meter man doesn't come on our property any more. Dolomite
  6. Vote out all incumbents where a Republican can take their place. Even if the incumbent is a Republican vote them out and replace them with a new Republican. That is the only way to effect change, send a clear message they only have one term unless they REALLY impress me and I can't recall a single representative that has. I swore a long time ago that I will never again vote for the same person twice. Dolomite
  7. I have a Shilen 300 BLK barrel that is 16" coming. I already tore down a 223 AR for the upper. I ordered a 3 postition gas block and a fluted free float tube. And once I know it is a keeper I will be submitting a few Form 1's. SBR and a suppressor because everything is nicer through a can. I know how quiet my 22 can is and hopefully a 30 caliber can can do the same. Which brings me to another question. Are there any 45 caliber cans capable of withstanding the 458 SOCOM? Dolomite
  8. I use a standard syringe. I just make sure to round off the needle so I don't accidentally lubricate myself. I buy them for under $1 each. I fill them up with the 50/50 mix then when they are dry I just toss them because the seals generally get soft. Dolomite
  9. Another option is to cast for whatever caliber you choose. If you source the lead and get it for free you could probably load 458 for under .15 a round. I know I am looking at .10 each for the BLK. Casting has saved my shooting or at least allowed me to get into calibers I normally wouldn't have gotten into. And once you cast for one caliber you will cast for all of them. I cast 308, 9mm, 44 and 45. I also cast 12 gauge slugs. Dolomite
  10. Well I finally decided to give it another try. I drilled a square rod for the bullets to sit in nose first. It take about 30 minutes to get a decent plating of copper on it. Here are a few pictures: On the left is unsized and on the right pushed through a .309" sizer. I guess the plating is adding about .001"-.002" to the OD. And a dummy round: The shiny spots are from the bullets brushing against others. Out of the solution they are pink. Dolomite
  11. 300 BLK for me because of bullet selection as well as cost of both reloading and factory loaded ammo. If you reload there are more bullet choices for 308 than any other caliber out there. You can find 90 grain bullets to 240 grain. Dolomite
  12. I would say $1,700 for both. The Armalite being the lesser of the two at probably $800 and Colt probably $900. That would be what I would consider a fair offer. Dolomite
  13. Although a serial number is not required it is recommended. A serial number is not required to sell. Before 1968 a lot of guns did not have serial numbers. Selling a gun without a serial number is no different than selling a gun with a serial number. As long as the gun's configuration is legal and the buyer is allowed to possess it there is nothing illegal. Now it is illegal to deface or remove a serial number once it is on a firearm. Dolomite
  14. Nothing illegal about making your own guns. As a matter of fact ntohing wrong with selling a gun you have made. Problem comes in when you make a gun with intent to sell or sell guns as a source of income without a license. Dolomite
  15. The only thing the Colt will not do is shoot varmint bullets. It will also hold its value but so will the Armalite. And in all honesty the Armalite is probably worth a lot more than the Colt if it is truly a preban gun. I know true preban stripped receivers sell for $500+ in the ban states. I have even seen some brand of lowers, can't remember which, sell for close to $1,000 in ban states. A 9 twist will shoot varmint bullets and anything up to 77 grain bullets. A 7 twist will not shoot lighter bullets. I know 53 grain SMK's come apart from centrifugal force at like 3300 fps and Vmax 40 grainers at like 3600 fps. In order for you to use the 7 twist to its full potential you need to have a long barrel and shoot HEAVY bullets. I do not know the length of the Colt's barrel but I would never consider using a 7 twist gun with a barrel under 20". It being preban may not be a concern for you but it is more valuable than the Colt if you sell it to someone in a ban state. Of the two, I would pick the Armalite. One because it is preban and two because the twist offers more realistic ammunition options. Dolomite
  16. Depends. On aluminum cans you can only clean them by taking them apart. I have been told sonic cleaners can damage aluminum cans. I don't own one so I don't know. I do know for a fact that dips will destroy an aluminum can pretty quick. SS cans can be cleaned a few different ways. One is using a dip made up of hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice. It will eat the lead out and not damage anything else on a SS can. But the by product, lead acetate, is some very, very dangerous stuff. The fumes will hurt you. The solution itself will penetrate the skin as well as the blood/brain barrier. It also settles into ground water. And this is a cause for concern because it is one of the most cancerous substances on the earth. Good news, most major cities can take lead acetate as part of household hazardous materials. They can also be cleaned using a media blaster without causing any damage. Most people say the best way to clean an aluminum can is with a wooden stick and elbow grease. You might be able to use walnut media in a sandblasting cabinet. I know I use wlanut media to remove paint from aluminum without damaging the aluminum substrate. As a matter of fact I use walnut media to clean my SS can and it works pretty well. Dolomite
  17. If you plan on never shooting more than 1,000 rimfire rounds you MUST have a can you can take apart. And trust me you will shoot a lot more. Or you must find a maker that is willing to clean the can for you. When shooting 22lr the lead gets vaporized during the firing process. Then this vaporized lead gets deposited in the can and cools. Eventually the can will become both heavy and louder. And if you get a can you can take apart you can install it on other 22's. A bolt action 22lr with a suppressor is amazingly quiet. There are several take apart 223 suppressors out there and some are actually very reasonable. Tactical Innovations makes a suppressor called the Tac-65. It is a 223 suppressor that is full auto rated and it able to be taken apart and cleaned. The best part is they are only $429 which is a deal for 223 suppressor. The Kestrel isn't much more at $499. Something about suppressed 223's. They are LOUD, not because the suppressor isn't working but because the bullet has a supersonic crack. And that crack is generally about as loud as a unsuppressed 22lr. Or at least that loud if the target is more than 10 yards away. Inside of 10 yards and the sonic crack hasn't really developed into a loud noise. The sonic crack gets louder as the bullet flies and the sonic crack will bounce back at you off of targets, trees or any surface in front of you. 223 suppressors really shine indoors where target distances are really short. In the end you need a can that can be taken apart. This is because you WILL try it on a 22lr then decide that is a lot more fun than shooting 223. I would really consider getting a 22lr can first because most people who buy both use the 22lr can a lot more than the 223 can. Another reason is for the cost of a magazine or two of 223 you can shoot all day with the 22lr. And there is no sense in having all the extra weight on the end of the gun if it is not needed. A 22lr can is also more suited on a pistol which is where I shoot mine 99% of the time. Dolomite
  18. Not anymore, now it is a goatee at the most. On my first trip overseas I had short hair and clean shaven but when dealing with the locals they didn't seem to acknowledge me. I spoke to a terp about it and he said grow a beard. I asked why. He said married men have beards and are respected while those that are clean shaven generally are not. So this is how I showed up for the next trip. I carried that look for a while then said screw it because I actually hated looking like that. It did make dealing with locals easier though. Dolomite
  19. Today Sherman Hemsley, aka George Jefferson of "The Jeffersons" died at age 74. I know I grew up watching him as well as his antithesis Archie Bunker. Both were always on in my house when I was young. I still watch both to this day and it makes me realize our issues today were also issues some 40 years ago. Dolomite
  20. They are only pandering to those who will put them in office or keep them in office. Most politicians will never give a straight "yes" or "no" answer to ANY question. First they will figure out their audience then say exactly what they want to hear or at least jade it to fit the audience. And why do they do this? It is all about control, nothing more. It isn't about money because most politicians were millionaires before they took office. And most spend such a large amount of money on their campaigns that they will never break even with their salary. Most people don't realize that they are being controlled by those in power. Those on welfare are the worst because have given up their chance to be successful in life for what amounts to less than minumum wage. I know if I had given up my dreams and aspirations of success for such a small amount I would be very upset with those who put me there, namely my representatives. Take any normal working person and offer them a few hundred dollars a week to quit their job. Most people will look at you like you have lost your mind but some people have allowed themselves to be enslaved and have done it for even less. Dolomite
  21. Reload and never have a supply issue again. it is easy to do and you get better quality ammo than you could ever buy. I bet you could loar this caliber for under .15 each Dolomite
  22. Pistol gas systems work better with the low pressure loads like subsonics or lightweight bullets. But without an adjustable gas system you will have over gassing with supersonic loads. Dolomite
  23. I had already thought of that too. A 300 bulk that will reliably cycle in a bolt gun. Use the rotary magazine and probably have a very reliable platform. Dang it, not I have another platform to look for. Dolomite
  24. I guess I am behind the power curve. I don;t even have a single loaded round yet. Dolomite
