Muzzle Break vs Ported barrel for 22
Dolomite_supafly replied to Pdheald's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
You do not have to get the barrel threaded for a brake. All you need to do is ensure a slip fit between the brake and the barrel then use green sleeve retainer to hold it in place. Just make sure you are not relying on the brake to bring you to 16", the legal length. The ATF requires something a bit more permanent. Also, do not rely on this method for use with a suppressor as the brake will not be concentric tot he bore unless the gun gods are shining on you. I have used green sleeve retainer for different stuff and it will never fail providing it stays under probably 700 degrees, which a 22 should never hit. When I say slip fit I mean both parts are within .004" of each other. Forget about porting the bore itself. It is too easy to mess us the accuracy of the gun. With a brake, even on a 22, the shot gets louder to the shooter and others around. I have a Cricket pistol and when I screw a muzzle brake on it people think it is more than a 22. It does help tame the massive recoil though . Dolomite -

Agree. My biggest focus now will be voting out any encumbent. I want to send a message that I do not want any more lifetime members of congress. I want our representatives to know that when they take office they will be back in the workforce the next election. It is only when they realize they are going to have to go back to a real job that they will make changes to improve it for those who have real jobs. Even if we get saddled with Obama we can slow some of his agenda by holding the house and senate. Even if Obama vetos a bill it can still be passed with a 2/3's vote in the senate. The senate is the most important because they are the ones who override any veto. Dolomite -

I have been saying Romney is not gun friendly not that he will ruin the country. Romney's business pactices are no doubt going to be better than Obama's. But Romney's view on guns alone aren't that far off from Obama's. Romney is going to be the worst for us gunowners (not the country) since Clinton if Romney gets elected, which I hope he does just to oust Obama. Obama has ruined the country but has left us gunowners alone for the most part since taking office. I suspect that no matter who wins the gun owners are going to suffer. And remember almost any gun law that gets passed will likely be permanent this time around. And there is ZERO chance for a law to be repealed once it has passed. Dolomite -
Suppressor fun with a 22lr
Dolomite_supafly replied to Climber's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
And yes, that is a technical term. I shoot my can every single day. It is one thing that I am glad I have above all other gun related items. I can shoot anytime I want without anyone the wiser. And it is always a big hit with the kids. It also makes shooting with children safer as well because they can hear you. Dolomite -
I have about 2/3's left of the tube of moly grease I bought about 3 years ago. But I use a lot of grease. Dolomite

And how does 6.8's post change the fact that what I said is fact. Romney signed into law, while he was at the helm, a very sweeping assault weapons bans as well as some other very hard hitting gun laws. And I believe if he found the same sweeping law waiting on his signature while he sat in the Whitehouse he would do the same except on a national level. Doesn't mean I am going to vote for Obama or anyone else for tha matter. Just that he is not a friend to gun owners. I guess if we, as gun owners, keep telling ourself he is our friend it will be easier to swallow when we have to vote for him in November. He is a just as dangerous as Obama but just not as quick. What Obama will try to do in his second 4 years Romney will take 8 to do the same. But hey its OK because he is a business man and will fix the economy. Dolomite -

Still doesn't change the fact Romney did sign an AWB into law in his state. Dolomite -
Wackenhut has been guarding this place for a very long time. When I went to work for a local LE agency in 2001 we had officers leaving in droves to go work there. Wackenhut is everywhere, they have an overseas division that does stuff just like Blackwater or Dyncorp. I even got my armed guard license with Wackenhut as a sponsor. I never worked for them but needed the license to go to other states and work with Blackwater. I even talk to a regional managers of Wackenhut from time to time to see how he is doing. Met him during Rita/Katrina in New Orleans or Baton Rouge. Dolomite

It isn't the materials, it is the setup costs as well as the fact they have to shut a line that is making popular ammo to make ammo that may or may not sell as well. That is why 22 shorts now cost so much. Not as much of a demand for them so it costs more because they don't reap the rewards immediately. Dolomite

I walk on crutches a lot of the time. And I have had people push by me and bump me without ever saying a single word. Not really sure what it is about the gun shows but people congregate and discuss things in the middle of the isles. And when you say excuse me they look at you like you are some sort of jerk. And when I try to weasel my way around they will not even move and I swear some even step into my way but that could just be me. And mind you this is with me on crutches. I have threatened to start coughing and hacking at the crowd with my wife asking if the (insert some communicable disease) is acting up. As far as door holding I always say thank you to anyone who holds the door. And when I hold the door for others 75% of the time I do not get a thank you. I have had people huff and get upset if I don't hold the door though. Also, people do not want to get involved and help for some reason. I was in a store and dropped some small items onto the floor. I was having a rough time getting them off the floor, it was a really bad day for me that day and my legs weren't working well at all. Had a guy walk up, watch me struggle for about 30 seconds then walk off. He even stood at the end of the isle to watch me for another minute or so because I guess I was so amusing. Dolomite

Combloc pistol ammo tends to run pretty hot or at least that is what I have been told. It is only the rifle ammo that is lethargic. Good to hear it shoots and it looks like it is shooting pretty good. I like the Solos as well. Dolomite

Probably need to put the WTB portion of your post in the proper section. Not that big of a deal but there are people who regularly look through ALL the ads in the BUY/SELL section. Not a lot of people check out the new member introduction section. Dolomite -
We have talked already but I would grab the hog hunter. Having a threaded muzzle is good for a few different things. Dolomite

I do not load for shotguns so I am very ignorant to that. I assumed you were using it for a pistol caliber. Dolomite

He is visiting the Gatlinburg area for his honeymoon. Congratulations on you marriage and enjoy your stay down here. Who knows you might like it enough to come back on a more permanent basis. Dolomite

What are you loading? There might be a more readily available powder. There are always several powders for each caliber. I can't even see where it is listed as being used anymore on the Hodgdon website. Dolomite

Although we like to think of Obama as the reason for all this crap we are in it isn't just him. We need to look at our representatives as well. Yes, Obama has figured out the executive order thing but the majority of the problems we have are caused by our representatives. We are lucky that they are split right now otherwise things would have been a lot worse regardless of which party held both the house and senate. Even if we get the president that this country needs without the house and senate to support him it means nothing. And likewise, if Obama wins another fours years we can take a lot of the wind out of his sails if we have true conservatives in the house and senate. The president can veto whatever he wants but it can still be passed with a 2/3 vote even if it is against his wishes. Personally I would like to see another lame duck. At least more laws are not being rammed down our throats. Our representatives are not in Washington to repeal uneeded or unwanted laws, they are there making new ones. And any new law is a bad thing for us. It is our represenatives that is the key to this country. At least more so than the president, whichever one that might be. Dolomite -
I am good. I buy a couple every couple of months. I don't do a lot of cleaning

The UN, especially those countries who might try it, must realize it will not end well. There are probably more gun owners in this state alone than the number of troops other countries are willing to send here. Those countries willing to support the UN also realize that the soldiers they send here are probably not going to come home, at least not in the same condition they left. There are far too many gun owners willing to fight to allow some foreigner take what it rightfully theirs. Dolomite
