Question about selling an automatic knife on this forum
Dolomite_supafly replied to Joe86's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
The seller must have the item in hand. This protects all parties involved. A problem that comes up with third party sales is a seller agrees to a sale then finds out the actual owner no longer has the item. This leaves the buyer without the item they agreed to buy and the seller being labeled as a welcher even though they had great intentions. If a sellers agrees to sell something then cannot go through with it they are a welcher, pure and simple. Now there are extenuating circumstances but that is rarely the case. In most cases the seller either got a better offer or thought about it and decided the sale price is too low. I know how frustrating it can be to have a deal agreed upon only to have a seller back out. And although we cannot force a seller to sell their item we can make sure they do not use TGO to do it again by banning them. Most welchers will welch again and anytime this happens it brings a bit of scepticism to any seller the buyer deals with again. And this only hurts members on both sides of the fence. Dolomite -

New shooter and I'm horrible at it. Looking for training.
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Training Discussions
Same here. I have been shooting all my life. Until my first formal training I didn't realize how good I could shoot. I do practice a lot now because I have a range at home. But I have also done a lot practicing while standing in front of the television. Dolomite -
First off you brother going anywhere to confront anyone is a bad thing. Might be a por choice of words on your part but going looking for a confrontation is never going to end well. Perhaps the two gentlemen knew there was about to be a confrontation and they intervened to protect the girl your brother was going to confront. Your brother must have exited his vehicle if the adults were able to assault him. Exiting a vehicle when you have two obviously unstable men is not good judgement. Best to stay in the vehicle unless firearms are involved then a car is a death zone and you need to get out. Now with that being said no person has the right to place their hands on someone else, especially an adult on a child. I am sure the alcohol affected their judgement. Sounds like the two older guys decided to open a can of "woop ass" but unfortunately they probably spilled it on themselves when they did. As far as the officers go they should have at least filed a report. Then your brother could use that report to go sign a warrant himself. The officers making a recommendation to not file charges does not mean that your brother cannot. But realize it will be a "he said", "she said" court case and with no impartial witnesses the court will likely toss it out. Not really sure how I would handle it but it sounds like you brother was not hurt physically so that is a non issue and the guys got what they deserved. As far as the vehicle damage, file with your car insurance and get it repaired by the other guy's insurance. Dolomite

You should be able to do a lot of training at home with dry firing practice. Which brings me to another point. Practice, practice and more practice will make improvements even if only dry firing. There are also plenty of information and instructional videos online. Some are free and some cost. Also, find a local shooting club and they generally have instructors in basic marksmanship principles. Personally, I would avoid Tactical Response if you attend classes. There are plenty of others without the issues they have. Dolomite -
If there is an outlawing of guns in this country the majority of gun owners will turn their guns over because of fear of jail. I would be willing to bet 90%+ will do it. Then 5% will put their guns in hiding and the other 5% will take a more "active" approach. Right now there are more guns in civillian hands than in the military's. After a ban and the commensurate turn in that will change and at that point we will become the subjects, not citizens. Dolomite

The problem with the country is there seems to be less tolerance for the other "team". We have become a nation of "us" and "them". We see it in our sports teams, cars models, politics and sexual preference. We forget we are all the member of the most important team, Team America (F**K Yeah!). People in America should be able to be a member of whatever "team" without fear of being ridiculed, exhiled or hurt physically. And because this has morphed into the same thread as the "Gives a whole new meaning to, "Hey, Sailor!"" thread I will default back to my feelings about this. And being gay is something some people struggle with their entire lives. And what do you suppose the number one killed of gays is? Not AIDS or any other disease but suicide. They feel the ridicule and fear is so bad that the only way out is by taking their life. Why would anyone choose a lifestyle that could result in them taking their own lives. The only problem I really have is public expression of over the top affection, be it between a straight couple or gay couple. That is for the bedroom and not main street. I do not want to see a couple of people kissing and groping each other in public whether it be a couple of guys or a man and a women. And realistically, what business do we have in someone elses bedroom or business dealings unless we are invited in. If a couple want to become partners, either life or business, they should be allowed to and have the same benefits of anyone else in the same type of partnership. Dolomite

Ted Williams was like the Bruce Jenner of sportsman back in his day. Although he was a star and have a bunch of commemoratives in his name they really haven't take off in value, YET! I think they will being to climb before too much longer and become very collectible. He was a hero to young boys and men up into the 60's. Almost every young boy and even some young men dreamed of being Ted WIlliams. And generally when those chicldren reach an age they can afford it they begin buying things that remind them of their childhood. And considering most of those young boys are now getting up in age and can afford them they will begin buying things like this. Another thing that contributes to collectibility, as sad as it is, is their death. And Ted WIlliams is still a relatively new member of that club. I would buy another gun and properly store the Ted Willaims. If you are wanting a 30-30 to abuse go look in pawn shops. You can find a beat up example for $200 pretty regularly if you hit a few shops. Dolomite

We, as a nation, cams very close to having these in 45 ACP rather than the 1911. Colt specified a weaker 45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) ammunition right before the trials. And Savage was unaware of the change so their submitted pistols had reliability issues during the trials. Funny thing is Luger also submitted a 45 ACP variant for the trials as well. And after all but I believe one were thrown into burn barrels and destroyed That single 45 ACP Luger has sold for over $1 million dollars. Imagine how things would have been if Savage had won. We would be reading Glock vs. Savage threads all the time. Dolomite

Tucson executive loses job after confronting Chick-fil-A worker
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in General Chat
How ironic if the only place he can find work now is with Chic Filet. I bet he would suspend his judgement for a job. Personally I hopes he finds himself in some minimum wage job dealing with upset customers everyday. Dolomite -
My parents are really screwed up, mostly my father who is a son of a bitch. My parents have been married since well before my brother was born and he is a very screwed up individual. He learned this from our father and had a mother who covered for him. I didn't get as screwed up because my father was gone a lot when I was in my impressionable years as well as the fact I spent as much time out of my home as possible. A screwed up child has nothing to do whether the parents are man and women, same sex or a single parent. It has to do with how the parent(s) raise their child. If the parent(s) are screwed up more often than not the child will follow suit because behavior and personal responsibility is a learned behavior. And even in some cases the child will be screwed up no matter how good the parents did raising their child. But 9 out of 10 times a screwed up child is the result of a screwed up parent(s). Dolomite

Some HCP holders get them just to get them with no intention of carrying. A few friends of my wife got theirs so they can impress those taking their order at a bar. They said they like handing the bartender a HCP rather than an ID. For me I don't have a problem with it as long as they follow the law. It will not change the fact I carry every single day and have been since November 22, 2008. I have been without a gun less than a week since then and most of that was on a military installation where it was prohibited. Dolomite

Are you happy with Obama as President?
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A national sales tax will never take hold. The reason is because the power is placed in the hands of the citizens again. Rigth now we pay no matter how we feel about our represenatives, we can hate what they are doing with our money but there is little we can do. But with a national sales tax we can decide to spend less when times are hard and budget. This would cause the federal government to do the same and they will nto allow that. Anything and everything being passed is about control. We have no control over what our representatives do once they are in office. We hope they will listen to us but they never do and only listen to their own agendas. And the control they exert is for the purpose of completing their agendas. In a perfect world a 30% national sales tax should replace any state of federal income tax. People say 30% is too high be most people are paying well above that in income tax alone. And most Americans would have more money to spend on stuff they wanted. But the biggest reason is you get those who do not pay any taxes, the illegals, the drug dealers as well as those receiving benefits that they never contributed to. Dolomite Dolomite -
A marriage certificate is nothing more than a contract between two individuals for the purpose of establishing a legal relationship. In the same way two businesses can "marry" each other, people should also be able to "marry" who they want. And although it is not required if you love someone it is required for it to hold up in legal matters. And that is all these people want, the same rights under the law as any married couple. Aside from the business aspect of it people have a problem because it is a sin. If it is about the "sin" issue of it then think about this. There are tons of families out there where the mother and father are not married and living in "sin" as a family. They share the same bed even though they are not married. People generally do not have issue with a man and a women living in "sin". And the reason why most people who do not marry and choose to have a family is for financial reasons, the same reason why same sex couple want to be legally married. As a matter of fact I have more of an issue with unwed parents than I would with gay couples that are married. At least wed gay couples would not be using all the social programs mothers, who refuse to marry, use. Why is one "sin" better or worse than another? If we are going to chastize gay couples for wanting to be share the same bed then we need to approach anyone else living in "sin" with the same vigor including those who are not married and living like they are. Afterall two unwed parents sharing the same bed is also a sin is it not? And I am not talking about those parents who cannot get along. I do not expect anyone to remain in a relationship against their will. I am talking about those parents who have lived together for a very, very long time yet refuse to get married for financial reasons only. I have known a few over the years and they always say that if they get married they lose benefits as well as loose that HUGE tax return every year. In the end I think anyone should be able to enter into a contract, be it marriage or business, with anyone else and have it recognized in a court of law. Dolomite

Scranton, Pa slashes City workers' pay to minimum wage
Dolomite_supafly replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
Where I live my property taxes have when up by over 1/3rd in fours years. They have it down to a science. My property taxes increase every year. They either increase the tax rate or they do mid term appraisals of the property to generate extra revenue. My appraised property value increased $36K in a couple of years. This was when the nation as a whole was seeing their property values decrease. And then on top of that they had a substantial tax increase. They do it every year but that particular year they said they were hard hit because of the downturn in the economy. I had to cut back so they should to but instead they increase taxes to make up the difference. When I moved here the taxes were low but fair, now they are well about most major metropolitan cities including Knoxville. I talked to the state tax people about the increase and they said the increase was because of a new HVAC I had years earlier. I told them it was a $6K improvement so how could it increase my value $36K. He told me to quit being a "smarty pants". In the end they agreed to drop the appraised value but it still increased by $20K. The problem is corruption, pure and simple. It isn't that the governments don't have enough moeny to run they don't know how to use it or use it for their own personal gain. Locally there is a piece of commercial property that a guy bought and he actually bragged about how he was able to buy it for $1 million dollars. His brother is the appraiser for our county and that piece of property appraises now at $86K. It is in the tax records that the purchase price was $1 million dollars then the following year it appraised at $86K. Not only is the county not getting its fair share of taxes from this peice of property but the owner is able to claim a loss because the $1 million dollar property is only worth $86K now. This same guy is also waiting on his trial for being a ghost employee in another county. He apparently was paid $60K a year and never worked a single day. He said he is not guilty but there are two of them and they both have the exact amount of overtime and neither of them ever showed up for work. Oh and this same guy is on the appeal board for those who thought their taxes were increased too much. When I mentioned him as a example of what is wrong he let me know that his taxes increased also that year and that he was "hit hard". I am sure this isn't the only property in the country not being taxed properly. We have a store that is in the middle of town and a gas station atteched to it. It is the only place in town to buy groceries and is owned by a prominent family. Realistically it should be valued 5x-10x what it is. They value of everything, store and gas station is only $88K. That is the property and the buildings. In my county there is a lot of questionable stuff that is rumored to have happened. And even if 10% is true I am surprized people are not going to jail. I do know the sheriff's office and judicial system is being investigated by the state. We have the highest time served and dismissed rates in the state. And we are not talking about percentage points higher but multiples higher. I know my brother was arrested for fellony drug possession a few weeks ago and he was sentenced to time served four, YES 4, days after his arrest. And this isn't his first run in. He has had standoffs with LE as well as tried to kill my family and I. They even let him pay $244 to flatten the 9 months he had left on his probation. He was not drug tested or even violated when he was arrested when he was on probation. The reason? It is so they can keep beds open for other county as well as federal inmates. A country resident in a country jail costs the country money but house another county's inmate and get paid. All counties do it and it is considered a source of revenue. I would not have a problem with my taxes increasing if the services increased but the exact opposite has happened. In the years that my taxes have increased the LE has been scaled back SUBSTANTIALLY. They even put in the newspaper that officers will not respond unless it is a life and death situation. There are times when we do not have an officer on duty, only on call. And even when the shift is full there is only 2 officers on. It is not LE fault, it is the county using funding as a political tool. I have even called to have an officer come out and had it ring and ring and ring. I finally had to leave a message and an officer called me back later to see what I needed. Well I needed an officer a few hours earlier. We have county jobs in which the pay should not be what it is and those holding the position is because their parent had the job. I have been told that when the child takes over the postition they continue to receive the same amount as the parent's pay after working their all their life. There have been postitions created when times are good but now they can't just fire a relative. Even our mayor, as sweet as she is, is part of it. The mayor receives $1 a year for the position of mayor. They take the position because of all the side benefits they know they will receive. Dolomite -
And where are you going to house the population of the United States? They announce martial law then tell everybody they are on house arrest? Not likely. Logistically trying to support even 5 million people would be a nightmare. And the government will not do it because once you declare you have control over someone you must feed, house and provide medical care for them. They can't afford to do that. Dolomite

And one more place. For those on a septic system your septic tank would make a great place as well. You would definitely need to really seal it, I would recommend PVC tube with end caps, but that is probably one of the better places. The stuff in a septic system is probably one of the most corrosive enviroments so you definitely need to seal it well. But how many people are going to open up your septic tank to look for something? It is disgusting to think about, smells and full of bateria that can make most people sick so probably not a lot. They are pretty easy to access. They have a door that can be lifted off revealing an opening. Or what until the next time you have to have it vacuumed out. I know when they are trying to confinscate guns most government types are not going to be pleased with it anyways. And they are not going to be sifting through someone's elses poo to find something. Dolomite

Another place to hide firearms that gives you easy access and is well hidden is inside your home and you probbly don't even know it. Every house is built the same way, 16" or 24" between 2x4 studs, and gives you plenty of room for a weapon and ammo. And if you use and interior wall the moisture content should be the same as any safe that is also inside the house. I would still seal it in something but long life of the material isn't as critical if it isn't exposed to hot/cold cycles. A good grease like cosmoline and oiled paper would probably work. Most people do not want to do this because of the work involved but the cost is relatively low. You can patch a wall for under $25 in materials. And that way you do not need to leave in order to retrieve your firearms. And if it has gotten to the point you are grabbing a stash gun who cares about a hole in the wall. The down side is if your house burns down so I would not stash everything in you house but maybe a outside stash and an inside stash. Perhaps a firearm stashed in your house you can use to get to your outside stash. Dolomite

Thumbs up TGO Admin and Staff
Dolomite_supafly replied to plank white's topic in Feedback and Support
The members here are pretty good at policing their own and it is only when they ask for our help that we generally get involved. Unless it is something outrageous we generally let things go because even the most controversial posts have their ups and downs. And it is the members that decide where the line is and that line changes all the time depending on what is being discussed and who all is involved. Another great thing about the members here is they are tolerant of others. Even if they are opposite sides of an opinion most times they agree ot disagree. And just like any family there are members here with quirks. And we learn to live with these quirks and even look beyond them for the greater good. And if need be members help each other out. And that is what families do, even if it is an online family. And the one thing that really suprizes me about this board is this. On most other boards where most members are men they are always trying to one up eachother. They try to impress eachother with stories of exploits as well as playing the proverbial "who's penis is bigger" game with each other. Not here, which is how it should be. As much as you are thanking the staff I would also like to thank the members here. It is you that make this board successful as it is. Dolomite -
It is very, very swift. Probably the most swift board I have even been on. Seems like every other board wants to "look into it" and make a summary judgement then hold concensus to kick someone. And I have seen that process take weeks. It is almost like they drag it out to make themselves feel like an all important ruler. Here, when someone needs to go it is literally done in minutes and generally without much fan fair. They are posting one minute and wearing a "BANNED" badge the next. Although it is quick and painless here I would like to see what people have to say after they get kicked. I know after agt.dealer got kicked he came into chat and appologized and basically begged for forgiveness. I actually considered forgiving his lapse in judgement but then I realized most people who will do it once will do it again. It is a self control thing and even though this internet stuff is serious business those who can't control themselves here probably have other, similar, issues in real life. Dolomite

Rock River Arms heartburn...
Dolomite_supafly replied to Troutburger's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
While not getting what you want is crappy and bad busniess I will say this. You got a better bolt. The phosphate coated bolt carriers hold onto their oil better while the chrome carriers tend to have their lubricate fall away. If I were to upgrade it would only be Bn coating. That is it. Either phosphate or Bn. I would continue to be a thorn in thyeir side until they make it right. Did you order directly from RRA? If so that is where I would call every single day and send an email every day. If it was ordered by a dealer I would contact them and give them an opportunity to make it right. And if they don't then oust them on here. I would call and say that the bolt carriers are not properly coated. When they ask for them to be sent back write a letter explaining your ordered chromed carriers and got phosphated ones. I would also attach a copy of the order form. Dolomite -
