  2. The EMP is a nice gun that is a little bigger than the 238. It is a 9mm so it will kick less than a 45. It is a little pricey and there have been some issues with them since they were introduced. I am not sure I would risk $1,000 on a gun that may or may not work. At least not without giving it a good workout. There is also the Sig 938 which is basically a bigger version of the 238. It is too new to know if it is a hit or not but it is cheaper. Dolomite

  6. S&W is actually using their 5R barrels in more and more models. No longer is it only available in the Sport. I never understood why they used it on their base model but that is a good thing for the rest of us. Dolomite

  8. Silencer Research does a very good job of testing all the silencers on the same playing field. It is worth the $30 membership to be able to research his database of hundreds of suppressors, and their performance. in a well thought out manner. I know his site was instrumental in my Form 1 22lr can design. Dolomite
  9. We used to make jokes about people being space shuttle door gunners. Those stories would engage the BS artists and then they would try to one up. That is another key indicator of a phonie. They will try to one up anybody else's story with their own embellished story. My response any "story teller" is normally, "and one time at band camp". Generally shuts them up and they go off to find another audience. We have heroes that will never be the same again because of what they have endured.   10. And one more thing, stick to a fixed rate mortgage. No matter how temping and ARM is it almost alwys bite back later on. We got offered a ARM that was 1/3rd of our fixed rate but had we taken it within a few years it would have been double the fixed rate. That is what got a lot of people in trouble. They could afford X and X only so they got an ARM that was X only to have it morph into 2x or even 3x. I heard of people buying $500K houses for nearly nothing a month. No one in their right mind would think they can afford a $500K house on minimum wage for the life of the loan. Dolomite
  11. If you buy a gun with intent of reselling it for profit or you buy and sell guns as a source of income you must have a license, otherwise you are breaking federal law. Buying a gun, using it for a few months then reselling it isn't going to get you into trouble. Buying a dozen guns, using them for a few months then reselling probably will. Buying and selling the same gun in close proximity, timewise, will probably raise some eye brows as well. This also applies to buying a stripped AR lower and assembling the AR with the intent of selling it. When you do that you are in trouble twice over. Not only do you need a FFL to buy and sell the gun but you also need a manufacturers license to take a stripped receiver, assemble it into a functioning firearm and sell it. There are A LOT of people who are guilty of this without knowing the law. You cannot legally "make" a firearm with intent to sell without a manufacturers license. A stripped lower is not a rifle or a pistol ad when you assemble the lower into either your have "manufactured" a firearm. I know it is hard to tell intent so what they generally look at is the numbers being sold. A person who is illegally buying and selling guns rarely does just one or two. Dolomite

  14. I also oust phonies. For anyone who has been in the military smelling a phonie is pretty easy. For those who haven't it can be difficult. But nothign is funnier watching their face as it sets in that they have been had. The biggest indicator is someone who braggs A LOT about their military service. Another big indicator is when their claims involve multiple things, like sniper Ranger or Airborne SEAL or the best is "thats classified". There is not a single job in the military that is classified. Specifics of what they did might be but never the job itself. Dolomite

  16. Pay close attention to the paperwork. They will provide you with a good faith estimate for you to review. If you find no errors it will be exactly what you sign. Read every single word of it and grab a calculator to make sure the numbers jive. Odds are you will not be screwed but do not risk it because you don't want to read the estimate. You will have plenty of time to read it because it generally takes at least a few weeks to close but sometimes even longer. Make sure the lender can lock in your rate and is willing to honor it if the rate increases. Most lenders will not honor a rate drop either, once you are locked in you are locked in. Rates change almost daily and it is a gamble to wait but realistically the difference between a 1/8th percentage point is very small unless you have a multimillion dollar mansion. An 1/8th point difference is going to be less per month than most people spend on coffee every day. You could empty you pocket change every day and cover that 1/8th percentage point. For us we refinanced our home and knocked 8 years off the term of the loan ans stayed within $3 of the original loan. We went from 5%+ to 3%. But we noticed they were keeping close to $800 in escrow for property taxes and insurance. Problem was they were not part of the loan because we paid it ourselves. I asked why and the "mortgage specialist" said because that is how they do it. I told them we paid our own taxes and insurance so it should not be in escrow. He argued for a minute or two then called a region specialist who confirmed what I had been saying. The "mortgage specialist" siad he had done hundreds of loans and I was the first person who brought it up. Makes me wonder how many other people were screwed out of the money because most people I know pay their own property taxes and insurance. And it also makes me wonder who got that money. Something else they did that kind of upset me was when they did the title change they removed my wife from the deed. I contacted an attorney on here who confirmed that had I passed away my wife could be left with nothing if the CU wanted to press the issue. So another $80 later to redo the title paperwork before it was filled and that was fixed. And finally, you have a 3 day grace period in which you can back out or cahnge things from the time you sign. I know we almost invoked that over the deed issue I mentioned above. If you decide to do a payroll deduction or account deduction to automatically make you payments make sure you do this. For your very first payment walk in and pay it in person. And at that point setup the deduction. Then once it is setup make sure it was completed but also make sure to have the funds available in case something goes askew. Things happen when humans are involved and it would be a sad start to be late on your very first payment. As far as insurance goes I like having the insurance rather than have it added to the loan. If something happens to our home WE get a check for the whole amount on the insuance policy no matter how much we owe. Then WE cut the check to the loan company to pay off the loan. Make sure the insurance covers the total value of your home and its contents. You would be surprized how much value is inside of your home. And periodically go back and update the numbers. A home that is bought now for $100K might be worth $200K in a few years, I hope. And if you do not update and something happens you might not be able to get into a comparable home to the one that was destroyed. I know our home is insured for about 4x the amount we actually owe now but we would be moving into and furnishing a comparable home with the insurance if something did happen. Insurance should be enough to make you whole if something happens, that is put you in another home that is comparable and owing a comparable amount. Avoid insurance policies only cover the loan amount no matter how appealing it might be. The reason is they only pay off the loan no matter how small it might be. So realistically in 20 years you could almost have your home paid off, something happens and the insurance pays the loan off leaving you with nothing. So make sure the loan covers the cost to buy a home comparable to your current home and its contents. The lender does have insurance on your property to protect themselves even if you don't. They also have insurance that pays if you default. Trust me when I say the lenders will not be caught short on any deal. It can be daunting buying somethnig that costs so much but once you step over the thresh hold of your own home nothing is more satisfying. Dolomite

  18. Actually most insulation keeps moisture in. Moisture gets in and never evaporates. That is the reason a lot of houses and trailers have rotting floors. The floors were insulated and the moisture was kept against the wood of the floors. Best thing to do is seal the firearm in an airtight container of some sort after soaking it with oil. For the ammunition I would just seal it in an airtight container with nothing else in there. Dolomite
  19. I used to be a BIG fan of Missouri bullets but I would get leading in my 1911 using their bullets. I called and asked what I needed to do and they said I needed to push the bullet faster. Well I quit pushing them when the 200 grain bullets were nearing 1,100 fps. Well into the +P+ territory and I still had leading issues. I fixed the problem by using Lee Alox on the Missouri bullets. Leading is no longer a problem. I cast my own bullets now and have no leading issues. I think with the Missouri bullets they are undersized for cast lead. A l;ead bullet needs to be bigger than a jacketed bullet. My bullets are ~.453" and the Missouri bullets that lead are ~.451". Thos .002" make a huge difference in both leading and accuracy. If you are getting leading at the chamber end of the barrel then the bullet is not sealing the way it should. If you are getting leading at the muzzle end you are pushing the bullets way too fast. Honestly I have never pushed a bullet fast enough to see leading at the muzzle. Also, the lube Missouri uses is blue for a reason, looks and looks alone. Add Alox and the bullets work so much better. Their bullets are also harder than they probably need to be because no one wants to open a box of deformed bullets from shipping. Dolomite
  20. Clamping will be fine. Use some blue loctite until you are sure it is on straight then remove one screw at a time and apply red loctite. Without the jigs and tooling you will never be able to pin a FSB in place without it being crooked. I would look around. The price seems a little high. Midway USA should have them and they have coupons for 10% and 20% off all the time. Dolomite

This is definitely bad but we are going to see more and more by the media because of their agenda. All we will see is guns are bad, guns are dangerous and Obama will make a promise weeks before the election to institute some sort of gun control if reelected. Dolomite
