  1.   It doesn't need the same serial number and it doesn't need to go to an FFL. Some manufacturers, like Ruger, require any firearm to go back through an FFL. They just ship it directly to me because it is the same as getting MY gun back but with a different serial number. It is considered a "repair" and so it does not need to go through a background because it came from you in the first place.
  2. So here is the deal. I will not let any member of TGO crap on a thread that was meant to honor a fellow American who has died. It has nothing to do with whether I like Prince or not. Respecting the dead is part of being a decent human being. So if you decide you want to disrespect a fellow American that has died go stand in front of the mirror and preach away, I will not allow you to have a soapbox here to do it. Regardless of what you think or think you know about him he has worked harder than most of us here. And because of all that hard work he was not only not a drain on society, unlike a lot of Americans, but was a complete success by every definition of the word. I am sure he also inspired a lot of minority men and women with his success. So before anyone decides to beat him up again educate yourself on what all he has done. Perhaps we can all gain a little more understanding and maybe even learn how to be as successful as this man was in our own lives. So please, if you have nothing nice to say about the dead then say nothing at all.
  3. Century is sending me a new firearm. Should be here in a week or two. Which is great so I do not have to deal with Preper Guns ever again.
  4. That looks like it is holding a stone. Also, it looks rough enough that I would think it is home made. Might hold a lot of sentimental value for someone, especially a women.
  5. Yes, as long as somewhere on the gun it has the caliber. I just built a 9mm barrel that is 3.5" long. Because it is so short and under a rail I marked the breechface with the caliber.
  6. Here is my take on armor. No soft armor will stop a rifle round, period. But if you look at what most police officers face you will see what you are most likely to face and that is pistol calibers.   If you are wanting plates there are some things to take into consideration. First is what are you going to be doing while you are wearing armor. If you are going to be hoofing it I would suggest the lightest armor you can afford and for most that is ceramic. There are hard armor plates that float but they are expensive compared to ceramic. The down sides to ceramic is they are thick, they are brittle and some cannot take multiple hits. If you are working in confined spaces like vehicles then steel is a viable alternative because they are generally less than 1/2 the thickness of a typical ceramic plate. The downside of steel plates is they are heavy compared to ceramics. But as far as actual performance they are comparable at everything but CQB distances. And as far as protection per dollar you cannot beat steel. It is possible to get adequate steel plates for $65 now. Add a spall coating and it will be great.   I have found that once you get a front and rear ceramic plate on your carrier then your two layers of magazines and water or small pack and you end up being thicker than you are wider. And that can make getting into and out of a vehicle very difficult. Doing menial tasks can also become a problem when you are twice as thick as you normally are.   And with the legislation coming for them now might be the time to buy soft armor. The steel plate would be easy to say it is just a target but soft armor can only be used as soft armor.   Something else to consider is a "in conjunction" setup. They can reduce weight while giving you as much protection as a level 4 plate. What they are designed to do is destroy the bullet as it passed then let your soft armor catch the fragments. They are generally not as safe as level 4 but it is way better than a level 3 hard plate. I will be running level 4 plates with level 3A soft armor behind it. It should be like a level 4+.   And finally, I would NEVER recommend it I have tested floor tile as a viable ceramic plate. I took two 1/4" thick ceramic floor tile and put a 1/2" rubber pacer to give it some standoff. I put that in a carboard box then covered that with a t-shirt. I shot it at 25 yards with 22LR, 9mm, 45 ACP and 5.56. All of them were stopped by the t-shirt. I ran out of test plates by the time I got to testing 7.62x39 but I suspect it would have went right through. Like I said I would never use it but if you were in need of protection and had nothing it will work better than nothing.   And something else, if you are buying plates you might as well get a helmet too. They protect the most important weapon of all, your brain. I run a level three helmet.
  7. I added you to the conversation Peejman.
  8. Ok, I have everything loaded up and ready to go.   I am thinking I will finish up some small stuff I need to do today then hit Norris tomorrow around noon.   I cannot remember if I already have paid for the year or not. But for those who do not have memberships to Norris it is $20 for the day or $40 for the rest of THEIR year which ends July 1st. I am going to get the rest of the year because I plan on doing some other stuff in the coming week.   So who all is up for Norris tomorrow?
  9. I have said it for years that "we" will do things out of spite like refuse to vote and now threaten to vote for Hillary if their chosen candidate isn't the nominee. People like that are not friends of the gun community or even a conservative. I HATE Trump and would prefer Cruz but I will not do ANYTHING to help Hillary get into office because she is worse for me, and the country, than Trump ever will be. Some do not realize that or do not care about the ramifications.
  10. I have no clue what is being shipped today but in previous years their "picatinny" rails didn't seem to fit all types of tactical rings. I would buy a decent quality rail and then those rings will work. Those rings are great for the price, I have a few sets.
  11.   And then he dies unexpectedly and no autopsy is performed.
  12. Who wants to get together and do something this weekend?   Wife is out of town and I have no plans.   I am thinking I might hit Norris or perhaps do something else. Maybe have a TGO get together at a local place.
  13. I bet we never hear from him again.
  14. I would also caution against using anything other than an oily rag to clean it and preserve it.
  15. Anytime we loose someone it is a sad occasion but your friend will be remembered every time you shoot beautiful gun.
  16. Here is the single most important thing to weight loss. That is whether you can or cannot exercise. Only eat the suggested serving size and weigh it out. I was as guilty as anyone in thinking a 1/4 bottle of salad dressing is a serving size. Or that the ready made lasagna dinner is a serving for two rather than seven. Once I started actually weighing my portions the weight came off. I lost about 40 pounds in 12 months. My wife lost 70 in that same year.
  17. Is the top rear of the receiver flat or round?
  18. I responded to your problem and it is a HUGE problem for you.
  19. Long Range Precision should not be trusted to do anything unless the work is done while you wait. He has engraved a few things for me but never again. The ONLY way you wil get your stuff back is to go file a claim through the courts. I would send a certified letter advising him that you will be filing a small claims case against him. I would also tell him you are going to talk to the Anderson County district attorney regarding the matter. Hopeful that will prompt him to send back your stuff but if not you are probably going to have to cut your losses unless you spend thousands on attorneys. And if you do get your parts back take it to a qualified gunsmith to see if the parts are even useable now. And verify the serial numbers you get back are actually yours. BTW, I suspect any positive review is just him. I have not heard of anyone that has had a positive experience. I have known of at least five personal friends who Brad screwed over with shoddy work or just not doing what he said he was going to do. He was also in some hot water with the law do the delay might be that. Last time I spoke with him he told me he lost his licensing to handle NFA stuff yet he had silencer parts all over his pig sty of a shop. The $200 to buy a threaded barrel for your M&P probably seems cheap now.

  21. http://specialoperations.com/28765/fn-fal-worlds-successful-battle-rifle/ Here is a list of countries that use(d) the FAL Angola[22] Argentina - Austria - Bosnia & Herzegovina[35] Bahrain[22] Bangladesh: Barbados[22] Belgium[22] Belize[22] Bolivia[22] Botswana[22] Brazil - Burundi[22] Cambodia[22] Cameroon[22] Croatia - Chad[22] Chile[22] Colombia[22] Costa Rica[22] Cuba[37] Cyprus[22] Democratic Republic of Congo[22] Djibouti[22] Dominican Republic[22] Ecuador[22] Fiji[22] Gambia[22] Ghana[22] Greece[13][14] Guyana[22] Honduras[22] Ireland -[ Israel - Katanga Kenya[22] Kuwait[22] Lebanon[22] Liberia[22] Libya Luxembourg Malawi[22] Malta[22] Mauritius Mexico Morocco[22] Mozambique[22] Myanmar[22] Nepal[22] Netherlands Oman[22] Pakistan Panama[22] Papua New Guinea Paraguay[22] Peru[22] Portugal Qatar[32] Rhodesia Rwanda[22] Saint Vincent and the Grenadines[22] Saudi Arabia[45] South Africa South Kasai[citation needed] South Sudan Sri Lanka Suriname[22] Swaziland[22] Syria[22] Tanzania[22] Thailand Togo[22] Tunisia[22] Turkey Uganda[22] United Arab Emirates[22] Uruguay[22] Venezuela - Produced under license.[34] West Germany[54] Yemen[22] Zambia[22] Zimbabwe[22] Here is the list of countries that use(d) the DPMS AR10. (This space intentionally left blank) The ONLY AR10 made by DPMS I would ever consider is the G2. But if I had to pick between a FAL and a G2 I would always pick a FAL. As you said your FAL has been reliable and is accurate, which are the top considerations of a SHTF rifle. It has proven reliable in some of the most austere conditions on the planet. The AR10, especially the DPMS, is known to be finicky and require constant maintenance to be somewhat reliable and that is not something you want in a SHTF gun.
  22. A FAL is a much better SHTF than an AR10. No AR10 will be as reliable as a FAL, ever.
  23. If you are meeting him at a range go buy 3-4 different types of cheap ammunition and shoot it. DO NOT LET HIM CONVINCE YOU TO SHOOT THE AMMUNITION HE BRINGS. Remember the FAL was main battle rifle for a very, very long time for 1/2 the world's countries. BTW, what kind of FAL do you have? Some are worth thousands, as in $4K+, depending on what it is.
  24. I would keep the FAL.
