The Walmart closest to me has some idiots working there. I was stading there when they had a call for Hydrashocks. The clerk asked the sporting goods manager if they had Hydrashock and the sporting goods manager went into a tirade about how civillians shouldn't be allowed to own HP's. I chimed in and said I carry Hydrshocks in my 1911. He got really disgusted and said civillians shouldn't be allowed to own 1911's either. I asked why and he said HP's and 1911's are designed to maim, not kill. He said the only thing civillians should have is a bolt action with FMJ rounds because they were designed to kill. I was in there another time right after they got the first AR in 22. A couple, with a 10-12 year old son in tow, asked to see the rifle. Once the clerk cleared it they handed it to the father. He looked at it and then handed it to his son. At that point the clerk went crazy, snatching the gun away from the kid, and told the father he just broke federal law. He told her is wasn't against the law for his son to hold a gun and the clerk argued back that it was. When they asked to see the gun again the cleark refused. And yet another example. A mother was going to buy her son his first gun, a Cricket. The mother looked at it then the clerk said they have had problems with them but he could fix it. He then whipped outhis leatherman and had the gun apart all over the counter. He they began filing various parts in the gun to fix the trigger. That time I called the store manager and she intervened the sale of the gun. They moved the guy out to automotive after that. And finally. I was there when the clerk was going to allow a straw purchase. A husband and wife came to the counter. He was looking at guns and decided he wanted one. He told the clerk he wanted it so the clerk handed him a 4473 to fill out. He said his wife needed to fill it out because he couldn't pass the background. The clerk said it was OK and had her begin to fill it out. I walked away and told a manager. The manager was in a dead sprint heading to sporting goods. I spoke to him a few days later and he said it was bad news. Then there is the customers, I could go on for hours about what kind of stuff I have seen in passing. Dolomite

Volume has a lot to do with it. I was at a dealer when a shipment of a lot of Mosins came in. It was such a large shipment that they shut the doors and brought the smiths out from the back to begin the process of logging all them in. It took them hours to complete and during that time no other work was done. They have since raiseed their price on multiple transfers. Prior to that it was something like $25 a transfer regardless of the number of guns being transferred. Afterwards it went up to $5 or $10 for each additional gun in the same shipment. Dolomite

Actually a Form 1 if you build it yourself. If you are buying it from a dealer then it is on a Form 4. To build ANY NFA item is requires a Form 1 and $200. Even a SBS costs $200 if you build it yourself. They actually make a version of the Roni with a faux 16" barrel. Even though the pistols barrel is short the long barrel on the conversion meets the requirements and does not need to have a registered firearm. Dolomite

Yeah, without knowing the twist rate you might get screwed. Another concern is round counts. Not that much of a deal with this upper because it was likely used for target shooting but with any standard upper knowing the round count is a must. I just read it, and will try to find it again, but there was a study of accuracy between new and 10,000 rounds. It even surpized me. New gave accuracy at 200 yards at under 3" for all 5 samples. When they hit 10K they did the same study and the smallest was 7" I believe and the largest was 13". They also did a velocity study and velocity dropped over 200 fps for all examples. Dolomite

I was watching the news this morning. The stocks tanked when someone "accidentally" released their profits. Evidentally there was enough of a loss to cause their stocks to drop. Wallstreet even suspended trading because they had dropped so quickly. Dolomite

The gun needs to be logged in before the next business day. And they dealer must open the package to check it in. Some people think the dealer has to wait on you to open the package but that is not the case. Go by the store the next day and they should be able to do it then. Dolomite

They can refuse and they have not violated any laws. In the same way anyone else can refuse to sell something. Even if they didn't think it was a straw purchase they can still refuse to sell and will not be in violation of any law or standard. I was refused a sale of a firearm from Walmart because my signature was not ledgible. He told me I needed to sign my name ledgibly or he would refuse the sale. Every other part of the form was clear and ledgible but my signature on the back was not. I explained to him that I had signed it how I always sign legal documents and ID's. I even showed the worker several forms of ID, including a diplomatic passport, and all had the same exact signature. In the end I ripped up the 4473 and tossed it. And even though it was upsetting there is exactly squat I could do about it because they violated no laws or regulations. Dolomite

Shorts aren't exactly quiet out of that short barrel. Even out of a 4.5" barrel shorts will ring your ears. I would grab the new CCI "quiet 22". They use a 40 grain, rather than 29 grain, bullet which hits pretty hard. It also uses as regular sized case so accuracy is good too. Velocity is listed at 710. Dolomite

The difference between us and USSR is the USSR was attempting to overtake the entire country. We are just there to get rid of the Taliban, which is a small portion of the populace. There are a lot of the population who want the Taliban gone unfortunately they are not willing to risk their family to do it. The Taliban will, and does, kill family members of anyone who they know help the the US. The only way to win a fight with them is to remove their option of going to paradise when they die. They are fighting for their God. And when they die fighting for their God, and become a martyr, they go to paradise. The believe that if they are killed fighting the infidels they go to paradise NOW and do not have to wait until they die later. So to them there is an incentive to die and that incentive is going to meet with Allah in paradise now, rather than later. So in order to win they must be made to believe they will NOT go to paradise and be with Allah when they die. Not sure of how we could do that but until we remove paradise as an option they will continue to get people willing to fight us. Most fighters are just those recruited under the guise they will go to paradise if killed. The intentionally choose individuals who have nothing left to loose then promise them a way to paradise ahead of schedule as well as promises that the Taliban will take care of their family. They are a very superstitious people and believe a lot of what they are told. I am really, really surprized we haven't used propaganda to instill a fear of not going to paradise if they die killing us. Maybe if they believe they are not going to paradise they will be reluctant to join the Taliban or fight for them. This is why Israel's policy of hanging anumal blood in buses has reduced the number of suicide bombers. Muslims belive that if their blood is mixed with animal blood at the time of their death they will not go to paradise. Perhaps we need to make a public statement that all ordinance, small and large, is processed with and contains pork blood. The lubricants are pork based, our paints are pork based as well as any metals. That would remove all chance, hopefully in their eyes, of going to paradise when they die from our munitions. Dolomite

What powder do you have? If you don't have any I like Power Pistol. I have also used Longshot, HS-6, Clays and a few Vihtavouri powders. Clays is a very miserly powder and Power Pistol is a very robust powder at normal charge weights. For a new shooter I always recommend a powder that has a large margin between minimum and maximum. I also recommend that the powder is a bulky powder as well so you can visually see a double charge. Some powders sill such a small amount of the case that a double charge might go unnoticed. It was Clinton who did the 1994 AWB that expired in 2004. Don't think for one second that any future ban will only be like the 1994 ban. Any new ban will be much more restrictive. I see it being a carbon copy of the California laws except on a national level. The Hughes ammendment, which banned the purchase of new MG in 1986, was the work of Charlie Rangel. The same Charlie Rangel who has been investigated for ethics violations, bribes and numerous other things that indicate low morals. The Republicans were calling for a by name vote and Rangel, being the speaker of the house, called for a voice vote. The measure was voted down but Rangel declared it passed on the voice vote. That is why he wanted a voice vote and not a by name vote because he could declare it passed. You could hear the obvious disgust with what had happened but Charlie said it passed so it passed. I think Obama will try to get the House and Senate to pass but when it doesn't I suspect he will use an executive order to put it in place considering he has championed that pratice during his first term. That or he will just direct the policy makers and policy enforcers to just "make it happen" and let the courts sort out what is legal and what it not. He probably realizes that most gun owners cannot afford a lawyer to sue for the seized items back. He, and his policy makers, have already hit the gun industry really hard. Surplus powder can no longer be sold to private parties effective this week. As is any component of military ammo that is torn down. Brass can no longer be sold to civillians as well as 62 grain "green tip" bullets. They are going to make our guns less appealing by removing our ability to afford to shoot them. And when we can't use them we will be less likely to resist. The transport of powder, smokeless or otherwise, now costs a lot more through mandatory licensing and insurance. There is also a push by this administration to require background checks, similar to firearms, for anyone buying components in "large" quantities. It hasn't happened yet but it is nothing more than a memo to change the policy. And that is the problem, our representatives are allowing rules to be put in place that should be laws that passed both the house and senate. There will be a day when reloading, shooting and owning firearms will be such a huge hassle that there will be fewer and fewer new shooters. And when us "old" shooters pass away the cycle of gun ownership will be broken. And the second that happens the American citizens become subjects. If you are on the fence with Romney, like I was, now is the time to give up on anyone else but Romney. If for nothing else for the common bond that brings us here that is firearms. Whether you have a gun to hunt, for sports, for defense or just because you can you need to unite with your fellow gun owners to vote Obama, and any other Democrat, out of office. If you decide to use it as a backup or primary load it with Aguila SSS rounds. They are 60 grain bullets and out of these little guns will penetrate about 8" in ballistic gelatin. I have a Taurus version and have chronographed the SSS at ~800 fps. The bullets are not stabile at all and often hit sideways, even at a few feet. Here is a pretty good video showing how well it does. That is a NAA revolver which has a shorter barrel than the Bobcat. Dolomite

You may not need to get an adjustable gas block. Have you decided on the gas length system? If you tune it to work with unsuppressed supersonic loads it should work with suppressed subsonic loads. In the mean time you can grab a KX-3 and screw it on to simulate the gas pressure of a suppressor. It will not provide as much as a full suppressor but it does increase pressure in the barrel. And hopefully enough to work with subsonic loads until the suppressor paperwork comes back. I know I plan on running a 8" barrel and I hope to get rid of my adjustable gas block. Dolomite

An empty chamber is also a pretty good indicator as well. I say find the cheapest one you can and buy it. Safety or no safety it is the shooter that determines whether a gun is safe. Relying on a safety to be safe will result in an accident eventually. Dolomite

Hate to say it but those are likely permanent. You could remove them but that area of the gun would look different than any other part of the gun. What you could do is have the entire gun media blasted to see if it will remove the scratches. But to remove the scratches totally you are going to need to be a bit aggressive and the finish will be a dull gray afterwards. The bigger concern is what caused them. The nose on the slide release should have prevented scratches there. It is almost like someone used a tool to pry the slide stop from the gun. If that is the case it should have been pushed from the other side with a non marring object. Dolomite
