  1. I would say grab a Ruger 22/45 or the new Lite. Both are pretty light and if you mount an optic are going to be very capable of taking small game out to 50 yards. It is also very easy to hide in a condition that is ready to shoot. I would grab a model with a barrel 4"-5" long. And if you decide to use an optic it is going to be just as accurate whether the barrel is 10" or 2". And if you get a suppressor you can use the gun without alarming others to your whereabouts. For taking small game it is hard to beat a decent slingshot. A slingshot should be part of every kit because they are useful. You can also use them to shoot arrows and have enough velocity to take deer. Dolomite
  2. I can see the mass hysteria if he gets elected again. Otherwise it will be just like it has for the last 4 years. There will still be those dealers who claim it is coming and try to rip off naive customers. I have talked to a dealer who is 100% for making private sales illegal. He wants all gun sales, private or otherwise, to go through a FFL with a mandatory background check. I asked him why and he said he has to so individuals should have to. He also said it was more revenue for him because he can charge for the "transfer". I asked if the state made the background and transfer free between two individuals would you still support it. He started belly aching about how that would cost him way too much money and he would go out of business if he had to perform free backgrounds and transfers between individuals. Dolomite
  3. Looks like the same specs as our beloved M&P Sport except in a 20" version. Should be a great shooter and durable. The only concern I have is the 5/8-24 muzzle threads. That means you will only be able to use 30 caliber muzzle brakes. Or you could buy whatever 223 muzzle device you want and have a friend open it up and tap it 5/8-24 (hint, hint). Dolomite
  4. I like my dedicated. I had the barrel cut down to 10" then a tube welded on the end to bring it back up to 16+". My suppressor slides down inside the tube and screws in place. With my can in place the barrel is only 18" long making it much easier to manuever. Dolomite
  5. Regardless of the weight they almost always act like a varmint bullet. The jackets are really thin and come apart upon impact exposing the softer lead core. Dolomite
  6. Just a thought. Why not clear the room with the lightswitch? It is easier and much more expansive than a flashlight when it comes to lighting up a room. It doesn't replace a good flashlight but in most cases a room light will cover more area with light that a flashlight. After the light has been turned on that is when you hit the bad guy in the face with your flashlight to hopefully immobilize or at least blind him. It is also important to only use the light to identify your threat and try to minimize the amount of light you, yourself, cast. A flashlight in your hand identifies where you are but a light being turned on may not. You know your house better than they do, especially in the dark, so keeping it as dark as possible until you need to clear a room of threats keeps you at an advantage. I always grab a flashlight and a gun when I hear something. I travel to the sound in the dark then hit a lightswitch with my off hand. I most cases that is followed by a cussing of our cats. As far as a flashlight I use a Nitrolon G2 with a LED bulb installed. They are cheap and are very, very durable. And with a LED, that casts and extremely white light, it will blind most people. The LED's are also a lot more durable than the standard bulb. The standard bulbs seem to only last a short time for me no matter how careful I thought I was being . Now with the LED I use and abuse it without issue. Dolomite
  7. They might have a few laying around but they generally do not stock them. They can order them for you though. Dolomite
  8. I would start a bit lower. Those rounds take up more case volume which can significantly increase the pressures. I have zero clue about load data or where to start but you need to start low and watch for pressures. Theoretically you should be able to get the the same velocity with less powder. Dolomite
  9. And a warning shot will likely get you tossed in jail unless you are on you own property and you are allowed to shoot on your property. If you are justified in shooting a warning shot you are justified in shooting a fatal shot. That is regardless of whether you are "warning" a dog or a person. Shooting a dog in self defense has the same rules as shooting a person in self defense. You would not fire a warning shot to defend against a deadly situation with a person so you should not do the same for a dog. But if you fire a shot as a warning you are going to be in trouble. I know I would personally NEVER fire anything as a warning. Dolomite
  10. I was thinking the same thing. How funny it would be to have a bag to pop at that particular moment? Dolomite From this website: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=81550 Not sure who owns the picture
  11. There was a strange absence of people this weekend. You could actually walk around but still had a few muscle there way past me and my crutches. Prices seemed to be about normal. As usual DLM37015, David, had the best prices in the show. He also had more of a selection than anyone else. And as usual I seen him help a bunch different people with his knowledge and kindness. Hard to be 175 SMK's for $10/100 or powder for $90/8 pound. I am honestly amazed he isn't sold out by the end of each show. Great prices and great selection from a great guy. Dolomite
  12. Please tell me you weighed the charges and did not rely on the Lee dipper chart. The chart is notorious for being off. If you are not weighing you are asking for trouble. Now if you use the dipper and weigh the charges to see where they fall that is fine. Dolomite
  13. Ol' one eye! I thnk he is winking at you. Dolomite
  14. Ok, admit. How many of you listened to the whole song? Dolomite
  15. Obama also mentioned "cheap" handguns. I suspect his ban will not only be assault weapons but also handguns. I bet he will do it using executive order and by the time it is figured out in the courts the damage will have already been done. If he used a EO to make possession of a prohibited item against the law and even if it was later overturned those convicted of it will still remain in jail because they broke the law at the time it was a law. Also, the guns taken will have been destroyed so there will no guns to get back when it gets overturned in the courts. He is that much of a bully to do it. And think he can't do it, no one thought that protesting around the secret service agents would be a felony but now it is. Dolomite
  16. Perhaps in 10mm. Dolomite
  17. Or that their gun control measures are working. Dolomite
  18. And I am going to figure out a subsonic load for you carbine gas system guys. I can't have all the fun alone. Dolomite
  19. I have a friend who hunted deer with a 22 Hornet. He said it liquified the lungs and they wouldn't run very far. Not recommending it but you can take deer without having a huge caliber. Dolomite
  20. I have called LE about vicious dogs. They referred me to the SPCA. They said they would not respond to a vicious dog. The recommended I kill it. So the next time I seem the dogs on my property I took some shots. Fortunately for the dogs and their owners I missed. I spoke to the owners after their dogs had killed animals of ours. Their response, "dogs will be dogs". My response, "they won't be dogs anymore if I see them on my property again". You have the right to protect yourself and your animals with any means needed to remove the threat. Dolomite
  21. If you want the best snack in the world do this. Regular brownie mix, with or without nuts, and add a pack of real bacon bits. Mix it all together and bake as normal. I tried this a few months ago and it is responsible for a few of my winter pounds. Dolomite
  22. Good for them. I am glad to see they are doing so well so soon. Hopefully the trend continues. Dolomite
  23. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/52777-its-clearance-time-at-gl-take-a-look-updated-10-16/ Near the bottom they have a Savage 110 in 30-06 for $150. You cannot beat this price on what will likely be the most accurate gun you have ever owned. Savages are known for being accurate. They are also very durable and doesn't require a smith to work on. 30-06 is capable of killing ANYTHING in North America. I would not feel undergunned with a 30-06. This is a sponsor here and he supports the site so I recommend we support him. Dolomite
  24. Probably a femoral/pelvic girdle shot. You can be dead within a few minutes with a severed femoral artery. No amount of pressure or first aid is going to change that, There are a lot of good reasons to aim for this region. A shot to the hip joint will end the attackers charge instantly. They might still be able to shoot but if they are wielding a knife the fight is over. And as I said a femoral hit will be deadly within a few minutes. I have read a bunch of studies that say a shot between the belly button and crotch area results in a pretty quick stop, even if it is only soft tissue is hit. And finally, a shot to the neither region keeps them from reproducing. Dolomite
  25. Try using box elder. I have done a lot of work with it and it is an amazing looking wood. It goes from a very vibrant blood red to a orange than makes it look like it is on fire. Most people throw it away as a trash wood but we would search the ends of the earth for it. I made bowls mostly but did make a few benches as well. Dolomite
