Anyone with FIRTSHAND polymer AR lower experience?
Dolomite_supafly replied to musicman's topic in Long Guns
I like mine and if it weren't for the heavy trigger I would have used it for my recent 300 Blackout build. Heck if they said Glock on the side people would be spending 5x as much and not quaetioning the quality. Dolomite -

AR Pistol and Rifle
Dolomite_supafly replied to Oh Shoot's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Probably the difference is they issued a ruling in regards to the Neos, and only the Neos, like they have done for the Contender. Write a letter to the ATF, I do it all the time, to be sure. It takes a few months to get an answer but once you do you know with 100% certainty what is legal and what is not. They will not kick your door in and shoot your dog, if you have one. Dolomite -
This was in a email I received and thought it was worth posting here. Dolomite

Engraving machines capable of doing firearms are pretty expensive. As far as licensing you would probably need to get a SOT as well to handle NFA items. That is to keep you out of trouble. Before the paperwork comes back the lower is just a title 1 firearm and a FFL with be fine. Once the paperwork comes back the lower is now a NFA item and in order for you to accept you have to have the licensing for NFA items. From experience, a machine designed to do plaques and jewelery will not be acceptable for most firearms. Also, there are seveal in the area that are already doing engraving for reasonable prices. The exact same signs as when the gun is under gassed as far as cycling goes. Failure to lock back, failure to pick up the next round. Another is the recoil being more noticeable when compared to other AR's. But you have to take the weight of the gun into account. A 10 pound AR will not recoil like a 5 pound AR. The biggest indication is the brass and how badly it gets chewed up. Rims getting ripped off. Major dents. Another indication is a dirtier than normal gun. Like shooting quality ammo and it looks like you have been shooting Wolf. But honestly having a overgassed gun is a rarity. Persoanlly I think most carbine length gas systems are designed to be overgassed for reliability. The spec for the port size on a carbine length gas system with a 16" barrel is .077"-.083". I recently worked on a gun that was running 100% with a port size that was just over .070". Dolomite

Any do-it-yourself-ers out there? Need help.

Yes but they are notoriously tight. And they only come out one way. Dolomite -
AR Pistol and Rifle

Once a rifle, always a rifle. There are very few exceptions to this rule, like the Contenders. I would use a standard pistol buffer tube then swap the uppers as you see fit. But once you add a stock to the lower then it becomes a rifle and cannot be turned back into a pistol. If you use one of those foam covered tubes they are pretty comfortable and shooting 223 is fine. You can also add a angled fore grip, not vertical, to help manage the pistol. Dolomite -
If you are thinking about Blackthorne AR's, look inside

DPMS parts kits are probably the best out there when cost is considered. I try to use them exclusively. Are there better kits? Of course but not in the same price range. And because I have a LONG track record with DPMS parts kits I will recommend and use them without worry. Now on to everything else DPMS. They are a budget builder and it shows once you actually use the gun. For 90% of the AR owners out there, who won't shoot but a few hundred rounds a year, a DPMS will serve them just fine. But once you take a DPMS and shoot thousands of rounds over the course of a weekend they fail pretty quickly. Would I turn down a DPMS? No because everyone needs to own an AR and they are a perfect way to get into the game. The M&P Sport which is magnitudes better than any DPMS rifle and cheaper in most cases. Dolomite -
I run the pistol length with a 3 way block. That way I do not overgass my gun with supers and I can run really mild subsonics. As a matter of fact I was shooting some 180 bullets earlier and they were cycling and locking back. I did n't notice a supersonic crack so they are likely subsonic. That would never happen with a carbine length gas system. I can also tone down my supers. Rather than have a 150 grain bullet at 1,800 fps I can switch my gtas block to subs and shoot the same bullet at probably 1,400 fps. This is veru important to me because I am recoil sensitive because of an accident. One advantage to the carbine length system is if you find a subsonic load that works you don;t need to fool with an adjustable gas block. Problem is getting a load that has enough pressure to cycle a carbine length gas system AND stay subsonic. The easiest way to increase pressures without increasing velocity is to use heavier bullets. I shoot 240 grain cast bullets, which are equal to 220 SMK's, in order to keep the pressures up. I suspect a combination of slower powders, to keep pressures up, and heavy bullets, to also keep pressures up, are what is needed for a carbine to cycle with subs. Dolomite

You don't have to wear the belt like that to have a holster tuck in tight. Nor do you need a IWB holster to have your gun pulled up tight to your body. I contour and round my holsters during the drying and gluing process so they wrap around the hip when dry. I have had several people say my holster(s) are as close as most IWB holsters they have tried. Dolomite

Let us know if there is anything you guys need. And if you feel like talking feel free to call me or my wife. I enjoy talking about guns so if that will help Robert forget about life for a while I welcome the conversation. Dolomite

It is not bravado. If someone is on my property, without a reason or authority to be here, they will be met with an overwhelming amount of force to remove them from my property. Then they will find themselves being arrested. I can escalate to whatever means I feel is needed, up to but not including deadly force, to remove a trespasser from my property. It is also my choice how much force is needed, I ask them to leave and if they refuse I can continue to ask or I can grab them and physically remove them. And if they resist in any way they might find themselves going to the hospital enroute the jail. And I will be in the right if I do. I do not have to call the cops and wait for them to remove someone. If someone is on my property, without the authority to be there, and they use a firearm or other weapon to kill my dog they will be shot. And if they survive they will be arrested. I don't care if my dog is chewing their throat out they have NO right to protect themselves if they are on my property illegally. I can also dictate what guests use to protect themselves while on my property. If a person is a guest or here legally and my dog attacks the guest can stop that attack using any means they want. These rules also apply to my cats. Dolomite

Good luck finding one of those stocks. They are snatched up almost immediately as they become available. I lucked out and found one. You know the vendor if you want ot pick one up. It is the same length as a regualr A2 stock but has more storage. I am going to probably add the QD swivel mounts but other than that I really like how it works and feels. Dolomite

I load my cast bullet to mags length so the rib tends to push the bullets towards the center. I know this has caused me some problems with other mags. All you need to remove is the first 1/2" of rib and it is good. If the bullets nose in a 1/2" down the mag it is not an issue as long as they don't when they are resting on the feed lips. Don't go anymore otherwilse the anti tilt follower can nose down. The back can tilt down some after the mod but that is not as big of a problem as the front nosing down. Dolomite

The bolt gun is bake together just as a 223 now. Dolomite

I have been watching and waiting for the stock to be released for a long time. I am glad I found one and I really like it so far. I was using a standard collapsible stock with a saddle and the MOE is nicer IMHO. Dolomite

What gun was that? The only gun I remember selling was a shotgun and a pistol or two. Dolomite

And he truly is a great guy to do business with. He is one of the most honest people I have ever met. He is also very knowledgeable guy that is will to share it with anyone who asks. He is a veteran as well. He has the lowest prices and largest selection of anyone at the shows. He also gets items you will never see another dealer carry. When was the last time you seen a dealer with 500 S&W brass in bulk? Or 300 Blackout brass that is properly annealed for less than most other sell 223 brass for? To give you an idea of how nice of a guy he is. Every single show, that I have been there to witness, he has given a gun to the parents of a young shooter. Generally it goes to the parent who has a kid that is roughly 10. He realizes that it is the kids who are going to keep the shooting sports around for us in the long run. Dolomite

An animal should not be shot with ANYTHING that cannot humanely kill it. It should not matter what the animal is or whether it is wild or not. I understand killing animals that must be killed but if it must be done it must be as humane as possible. Dolomite

No dog, or any other animal for that matter, should be shot with the intention of not killing them. Using a BB gun falls into that category. It is cruel and should not be done for any reason. Had my son been using a BB gun to shoot dogs with he would have been in some very serious trouble. Dolomite
