  1. The "something special" might look something like this. Dolomite
  2. rcrespo106, thanks for becoming a benefactor. It supports the site as well as protects its members, which you are now. You would be surprized how well things sell here. Dolomite
  3. I have had good luck with a 50/40 mix of 30 weight synthetic and automatic transmission fluid. Add 10% fuel injector cleaner to the mix to help it seep. It seems to soak in pretty well but probably not as good a kroil. My mixture works really well if the parts are being heated. Dolomite
  4. To other members here, do not accept or offer a trade with ParamedZ2. He is not a benefactor and as such it undermines the rest of us who are. I will allow it because he is not specific mentioning what gun he has for sale but be aware he is on very thin ice right now. ParamedZ2, you are more than welcome to become a benefactor and offer your pistol for trade or sell it on here. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/store/category/1-benefactor-subscriptions/ You would be surprized how well things sell here and you would likely save the cost in gas if you were to drive around to various shops in your area. not to mention most dealers are not going to give you 50% of what you paid even if the gun is new. Welcome to the site and we hope you stick around but we have rules in place to protect our members. Dolomite
  5. NAACP and the ACLU to ensure the conservatives don't suppress the minority voters. It is one sided as they are not going to be here to ensure everyone can vote freely, only the liberal leaning voters. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/331195/naacp-and-aclu-invite-un-2012-election-charles-c-w-cooke# Dolomite
  6. Have you threaded it yet for your can? When you get around to shooting it suppressed send me your bolt and I will make you something special. Dolomite
  7. Or hope the safe was fire rated. Dolomite
  8. The video is not from 1969. The newest cars in the video are 1973 or 1974. Great video either way. I enjoyed watching it. It is great to see how training has changed as well as what has remained. Dolomite
  9. Someone shooting tracers into the backstop? Dolomite
  10. I was going to but there is no way I could turn it when it gets gummed up. It was very, very difficult with a standard screw driver. It might have worked if I never shoot cast bullets but that is what I primarily shoot any more. At leat 100 to 1 cast vs. jacketed. The jacketed shoots better but it is a lot cheaper to shoot my cast bullets. Another problem would be putting the "C" clip on the other side to hold it in place after the tube has been screwed in place. Dolomite
  11. This has been hashed to death already and I am putting an end to it. If a person has any doubts about the law do your own research. If you are still unclear then contact the powers that be for an answer. Do not rely on information on the internet, no matter how the so called expert potrays himself, the expert you rely on might cause you to loose your liberty. Dolomite
  12. So you are saying a rifle can be made into a pistol? If so you are, without a doubt, 100% wrong. A title 1 firearm was originally sold or configured as a rifle it will forever be a rifle. How often do you talk or have contact with the ATF? They are not some evil entity that is there to ruin lives, shoot your dog and screw your wife. They are there to enforce laws and as long as a person stays within the letter of the law they will not make that legal citizen a criminal. And if someone has a question regarding the law then contact them. They are not going to come kick their door down for asking questions. Dolomite
  13. Here are pictures of the block the day I got it. The only modifying I did was to make a new adjustment. The adjustment would get gummed up and a little rough to turn with cast bullets so the slot started gettting stripped out. So I bought some 1/2" setscrews and turned them down and made a new adjustment. Now I can use a 1/4" allen wrench and there is very little chance of it getting stripped out. I don't have pictures but you can see it through the handguard. I also drilled small dimples in the block itself and marked it with paints so I don't forget which setting is which. The gas port in the barrel is what is used to meter the subsonic. It is drilled at .093" to ensure 100% reliability. It has three settings, off-subsonic-supersonic. The off position is obvious, it is block completely off for the ultimate in quiet operation with a can. Subsonic is a wide open position. It has ports in the gas adjustment that are ~.110" so it lets all the gas from the .093" gas port in the barrel through without being metered. I can shoot subsonic 180 grain bullets or my 240 grain cast bullets at 800 fps. Supersonic meters the gas from the barrel port with a port in the gas adjustment that is ~.070". This lets enough gas through to cycle without overgassing the gun. In this setting I need my 240 grain cast bulelts to be above 1,400 fps to cycle it. The gun will run supersonic ammo in the subsonic position but the brass suffers with ripped rims and galling. It works great and has a few added bonuses with the adjustments. If I don't want to shoot light weight bullets at max fps I can switch the setting from supersonic to subsonic and use much lighter loads. Those lighter loads will still cycle because they are no longer metered by the supersonic setting. So rather than have a 2,000+ fps load I can probably use the same bullet at 1,600 fps and still have it cycle. This will also allow me to tune a specific load for a specific trajectory. Dolomite
  14. +1 I have spoke to the same person at the ATF for a few years now. I call pretty regularly and we talk about life as well as the gun world. I will say that they want all the nonsense to end as well. It was said they can't even make verbal opinions anymore because the laws are so confusing to them and they are the ones enforcing the rules. The person also said we need to be beating our representatives up over several issues. First being the hiring freeze placed on the ATF by the administration. People are retiring every single day and they are not hiring replacements. Yes they are hiring temporary workers but they cannot do what needs to be done to decrease the wait times. Those have retired, and not been replaced, are the single reason why the wait times have doubled in a little over a year and there are plenty more scheduled to retire in the next year so wait times are likely to increase substantially. Secondly, they all want a better, but more importantly a quick, way to do background checks. Maybe a grassroots movement in which we write and call our reps is in order. To have the ATF automate the process would be great. Basically run it the same way as a title 1 check except for NFA items. After the first extensive background check you get issued a "express" card so you can walk in, buy the NFA items and walk out that day. To cover the cost of automation I would gladly pay an extra $50 or $100 just to be able to have my item when I pay for it. It can be done it is just the ATF's budget has been frozen and our representatives are the only ones who can lift it. In the end I honestly see NFA stuff no longer being sold. The reason is with the slow process and low tax colledcted the system is costing more tax dollars than it is generating. If they automated it, or just hired a bunch more agents, so people can purchase them more often it would no longer be a burden financially. Dolomite
  15. I would never fire a lead bullet in a sealed can unless the can is 100% stainless steel. You can dip a stainless can in a hydrogen peroxide and vinegar solution to remove all the lead. The problem is the by product is lead acetate. You cannot dump it out onto the ground becayse lead acetate is a very cancerous agent. It is one of only a few chemicals that passes the blood brain barrier. It seeps into ground water , contaminating it and it cannot be removed. But there is good news, it is collected as part of household waste by most hazmat centers. You connot use this method with aluminum cans because it eats aluminum just as quickly as it does the lead. Drop and aluminum can in the solution ind before too long you don't have a can anymore. Shooting a gas checked bullet will reduce the fouling. But as was already mentioned the gas check can come off inside the can. The gas check itself isn't the problem it is when the next bullet strikes the gas check and then becomes unstable. That will ruin your can and your day. What caliber are you going to be shooting? The reason I ask is almost every caliber has at least one can that can be taken apart for cleaning. Dolomite
  16. If it was a rifle first I know for a fact it cannot be made into a pistol. Dolomite
  17. She does shoot better than I do with most guns, especially handguns. And yes she has shot this AR on several occassions. She likes the caliber because it isn't a heavy recoiling caliber and doesn't have the muzzle blast of a 223 AR. It runs great and now I am just trying to find some handloads it likes.I will be submitting the paperwork for a suppressor soon and when that comes back I will build a can for it. Then the gun will be QUIET, as in slinghsot quiet. She also has a 9mm AR that is hers. She also has a bolt action in 45 ACP that I made her that she really likes. Not really sure which gun is her favorite she really likes the Taurus 24/7 OSS/DS we have as well. She shot a perfect score on her HCP with it. She carries a Talo Ruger LC-9. It is engraved and nickel finished. We need to hit the range again. Dolomite
  18. It was, and still is, a contract between two people in the eyes of the law. Just like a divorce is a contract. Both require the governement to approve it for it to be a legally binding contract. Come to think of it, how far reaching have we allowed the government to get when they can approve and disapprove who you marry? Seems like it should be none of their business but that is just me. Dolomite
  19. I have seen several poly lowers that had steel FCG put in them without issue. I would say the Timney would be fine. Dolomite
  20. Here is a ATF ruling alst year regarding components for the purposes of NFA: I read that to mean if you have a barrel less than 16" and only a rifle receiver you might find yourself in trouble. Also, if you have a firearm configured as a pistol and a shoulder stock that will fit you will find yourself in trouble. Here is where is discusses TC specifically: But even if you own a TC it doesn't mean you are in the clear. You are only in the clear if the gun was originally sold as a pistol and not a rifle. If a TC was sold as a rifle then it can never be configured as a pistol. If it was orignially sold as a pistol then later a 4473 was done on it specifying it as a rifle it can never be a pistol again. The reason is there is a USC, not the ATF, that covers making a pistol from a rifle. The ATF mentions specific guns in rulings like this, likethe 20mm rifles that are legal without having to register is as a DD. These are quotes from opinion letters from the ATF last year. I will call on Monday as I have a few other questions as well. Specifically I will ask if an AR was assembled as a pistol can it be assembled into a rifle then later returned to pistol configuration? I know that if it was sold or originally assembled as a rifle it can never be a pistol. But a pistol can be configured into a rifle. Question is whether "once a rifle, always a rifle" applies to AR's assembled after the transfer. I do know that up until 4-5 years ago lowers were either sold as a rifle or a pistol, no receiver only option on the 4473. Those are the ones that could get someone in trouble. You might want to configure it into a pistol then take a picture with a newspaper the same day you received the lower. That way you have proof its original configuration was as a pistol. Dolomite
  21. Once a title 1 firearm (Not NFA SBR) is a rifle, whether manufactured or assembled by an individual, it cannot be changed into a pistol. This is what OhShoot is asking about. This has been the rule for a very, very long time. There are exceptions to this rule but they are on a model by model basis. I wish it wasn't so because I would have several Savage pistols. But it is what it is and will likely remain that way. Dolomite
  22. With all the cosmetic surgery being performed in the US I wonder how long it will be before a similar suit will be filed here? I guess her personality had nothing to do with why they got married. Dolomite
  23. Those powders are definitely too fast, they are even faster than 1680. I think 4198 or 2015 may work with the carbine length gas system and heavy bullets. Well not so much heavy bullets but bullet with a long bearing surface to keep pressures up. My 240 grain cast use the exact same data as 220 SMK's. Something about 1680. It may run guns very well but it has a cost. It is the most inconsistent powder I have ever measured. I am getting very large ES's and SD's. And it shows on paper and on the ground. Groups are 4"-5" at 50 yards with both an AR and a known shooter with other powders. On the ground the casings are scattered all over and can have as much as a 10' spread on the ground. Different powders launching bullets at the same velocity will drop the empty cases within 6" of each other and it also shows on the targets. 1680 may be another reason AK's are inaccurate when shooting US made ammo. I have been told that most US makers of 7.62x39 use 1680. And with the results I have seen with the 300 I can see the same problems with 7.62x39. If you can make it to Knoxville you are more than welcome to burn some of my powders to figure out what works and what doesn't in your AR. Dolomite
  24. There is a good person in Maryville that is also reasonable. I can't recal their name but Static_USMC knows and has used them. Dolomite
  25. Maybe that is the precursur to a magnetic rail gun. Dolomite
