I have found the 00 buckshot to be about perfect for a slingshot. Much heavier and you loose a lot of the range. Much smaller and they don't seem to fly right.   I cast abut 500 00 buck for my slingshot needs and they work great.   Dolomite

I can guarantee that the stuff I buy now that are related to reloading or firearms will only go up in value. Everything I have bought 2 years ago has went up by at least 25%.   Everything I buy is geared towards being self sufficient long term.   You cannot put a price on the ability to make your own ammunition. Especially for what it costs me to make it. I can't recall the last time I was able to buy 20 round of centerfire ammunition for .88. That is $44/1,000 for my 300 blackout. And that is the biggest reason I chose that caliber. It is miserly and I can cast perfectly useable bullets easily. Blackpowder will probably never be outlawed and I suspect it will work just as well as anything else in a bolt gun. Primers can be readily made using items you can find at ANY store. And because I cast my own bullets I will probably never run out of those.   I guess I need to go ahead and do some testing involving blackpowder and the 300 Blackout in a bolt gun. Heck I would be willing to bet my AR will cycle using blackpowder for a magazine. As a matter of fact I recall someone using blackpowder in their 1911 loads with great success. It went 50 rounds without a malfunction before he quit. Hard to say how many rounds it would go. Heck you can easily use blackpowder in any revolver caliber.   Dolomite

Use your .5cc dipper with the Power Pistol. You will be fine. It is on the low end of the load but still more than what I use.

And it will come eventaully. There has been talks over the last year with the world's rice producers. They are putting together and OPEC style conglomerate to increase prices and their profits. If you think you can't live without gas imagine when the rice, corn and wheat growers decide to demand 10x what they are getting now. $10 for a pack of tortillas, $30 bags of flour and $20 box of cereal are going to be the norm.   Dolomite

I can assure you there is not a factory 223 load with a 69 grain bullet that is 2,950 out of a 16" barrel. The velocity numbers they list are out of 30"+ test barrels. I have chronographed a bunch of factory ammo and it is rare they are within 10% of the listed velocity out of a "real" gun.   From my previous post:  .3" CTC at 100 yards.   As long as you know your velocity and your zero you have zero problems with drop. I shoot subsonic 22's out to 300 yards and make hits on 12" steel 9 out of 10 times, at 200 yards hits are a certainty. The reason is I know what the velocity is and what my zero is. Then I just dial it on the turrets. I have even shot the 60 grain SSS rimfire rounds at 200 yards and made hits. It is all about knowing your velocity and your zero.

There you go. Your .5cc dipper is below the max so you should be fine.   What powders are you talking about being expensive?   Most powders run $25 and Power Pistol runs $22. Seems to me $3 wouldn't be worth the effort to find it. I have only found one place that has it in stock regularly. And that extra $3 might mean the differnce between a good powder and a great powder.   Dolomite

  Are you using CFE223 or SMP842?   For the velocity the barrel length makes a huge difference I have a 69 grain load that does 2,350 fps out of 16" and 2,950 out of 26". If that is out of a 16"-18" barrel I would consider that pretty close to good. If it is a 20" I would think 2,750 would be about it.   You need to be watching for signs of pressure as well. But as I have said before max load doesn't mean max accuracy. As a matter of fact just the opposite is the case 99% of the time.

You really need a scale. Those dippers, or more specifically the charts, are wrong.   With that bullet 5.2 grains of Power Pistol works fine in my guns. But I have no way of converting the volume of Power Pistol to the weight you need.

On yet another website a Plum Crazy lower SOLD for $425, Frontier Armory lowers SOLD for $450. I guess the combination of being an "assault weapon" and the same plastic used by those making their own lowers combined to make it super evil and even more desireable.   Colt lowers for $1,400. LPK's for $100+ BCG for $300+ Stripped uppers for $200+   MAK90 for $3,200 (WTF??!!?!?!) Arsenal RPK for $2,600 Sig 556 for $2,400 Converted 7.62x39 Saiga that is well used for $1,000   I cannot wrap my mind around this craziness.   Dolomite

Have things really gotten that bad?   I just found an ad where someone is selling partial boxes of 22's. I mean a guy has 11 rounds of 22 listed for sale.   I feel bad for shooting a few bricks the other day.

I have been looking around various websites and seeing the prices climb on everything AR or AK related. But I am also seeing prices climb on other stuff that that I never would have thought.   The most disturbing part of all of this is before no one wanted to use the words "assault" to describe a weapon for fear it may be added to a ban but now everything is an "assault" weapon so it will sell. I have even found semi auto 22's being listed for 2x-3x what they sold for new because they are listed as an "assault rifle". I have also found shotguns being listed as an "assault shotguns". If it is black it is an "assault" weapon and command higher prices.   Seems like being an "assault" anything is selling right now. And the worse part is some sellers are claiming these "assault" weapons are being banned and to get them while you can. A black PMR-30 for $1,000 because it is "probably going to go away".   I hope this summer all these guns that were bought in haste hit the market for cheap. But what is likely going to happen is dealers will realize customers WILL pay $1,500 for a bare bones AR and keep prices inflated. Maybe not as inflated as now but still inflated. In the same way Saiga shotguns were under $300 until a scare forced their prices to $600+ where they have now stayed.   Just more of the fear mongering that we, as gun owners, do to ourselves and that will bite us ALL in the end.   Dolomite

So the other day my wife and I were shopping in Walmart for her Christmas present. We found what we were looking for in the store and it was $140. I looked at Walmart.com and found the exact same item for $120. I thought to myself I will just show them their website price and they will match it. Not so fast. I asked the associate to price match and they said they will not match ANY website. I tried explaining to her that it was THEIR website and she she it doesn't matter.   So I try to find a manager because this can't be right. Walmart HAS to match Walmart. So waited around for a manager that never came so I called into the store I was standing in and asked for a manager.   After about 10 minutes a nice gentlemen got on the phone. I asked if he was the manager and said he was an assistant manager. Then I asked why they do not price match their website. He went on to say the stores are not affiliated in any way with Walmart.com. He said they would not honor any prices from the website but he did say if we ordered from Walmart.com we could have the item shipped to the store.   So because of their policy we decided to shop around a bit more. And good for us we found one locally for the same price as Walamrt.com. The best part is we didn't have to wait and had our item that day.   I still don't see how they are not affiliated. Having a policy saying they won't price match is one thing but saying they are not affiliated is another.   Dolomite

My Metro Arms has yet to have a problem running. And that is in ~3,500 rounds now. I did replace the extractor when it was new because it was a little out of spec. But even before that it still ran fine. And a few months later I upgraded because I was going to carry it. I have had quite a few 1911's and I don't recall ever getting frustrated by any of them. Even the Colt compact I had ran fine. People who have problems with 1911's are ones that do not do maintanence. A 1911 needs a fresh recoil spring every 1,000-1,500 rounds. They also need the extractor inspected and possibly tweaked about the same time as it can loose its tension with use or misuse. There are two things that should NEVER be done with a 1911. First is never load a round I the chamber and drop the slide. The extractor is designed for the round to slide under it during cycling. If you drop the slide on a loaded round this is can break the nose off, bend the nose or cause the extractor to loose its tension. Any of these conditions kill reliability. Second, never drop the slide on and empty chamber. I know it sounds cool but it damages the fiream. The round being loaded acts as a shock absorber and slows the slide down some. If you do drop it on an empty chamber it can cause damage to the sear and hammer. It can also cause other problems and should never, ever be done. These two things cause more problems for a new 1911 owner than anything else. As a matter fact I have a friend who is coming over for me to fix his after a few hundred empty drops. It has gotten to the point now that he cannot drop the slide using the slide release on a full magazine. When he does he hammer drops to half cock. If it ever makes it past the half cock it will AD. I just measured my wife's LC-9. The slide and frame measure .89". Going to be hard finding a 9mm that is narrower than that for the price. A 1911's slide is less than an inch as well.   Dolomite
