  1. That is her "high offer". Now lets see what the NRA's "low offer" will be. And somewhere in the middle is where it will be. Hopefully the NRA's low offer will not be a compromise but a resounding no to everything. Either way we are all going to have to take a bite of the proverbial shit sandwich that is gun control and the economy. Even if nothing gets passed we are still in for a rough year. Dolomite

  3. You know what. My wife is psychic. She has called every single member to get banned for at least the last 9 months. Not saying you are going to get banned OP but it isn't looking good unless you tone it down a bit when you come back, if you do.   Dolomite
  4. It is perfectly legal for ANYONE to make ANY gun they want provided they are allowed to own the weapon they made. A person can make a semiautomatic rifle or pistol and not break the law provided they are allowed to own them. They can make a bolt action rifle or shotgun and be well within the law. And it doesn't matter how or what was used to make those guns.   I can walk out into my garage, make a gun and it is perfectly legal even though I do not have a license to manufacturer firearms. And after it is made I can actually sell it if when I made it I didn;t intend to sell it. The key isintent to sell it when it was made. Those that are manufacturing weapons for resale rarely do one or two. Most people who makes guns for themselves rarely make more than a couple a year. Yet those who intend to sell them will make dozens or more. And that is where it is easy to prove intent. Now if people began making with the intent to sell receivers made on the 3d printer they would need a manufacturers license. But if they are making them for themselves, initiall, they are perfectly legal.   Somethng a lot of these AR guys are unaware of is if they buy a stripped receiver and build a firearm with intent of resale they MUST have a manufacturers license. A regular FFL is not enough to be able to do that either. There have been a dealer or two in my area that had the ATF visit them for building AR's from receivers and selling them as completed firearms. And I know there have been a lot of dealers at the shows recently sitting there building complete firearms from stripped receivers. They are probably going to find themselves in some hot water especially considering they are doing it out in the open for all the world to see.   And something else, any gun that is made by an individual does NOT have to have a serial number although it will probably keep LE from going crazy. But by law if a gun doesn;t have a serial number it is not required to have one but if a gun has one it cannot be removed, altered or obliterated.   Dolomite
  5. Also, you only want enough flare to keep from shaving the bullets. Normally I can't see or feel the flare. This helps your cases last longer.   Dolomite
  6. The cases budging are normal. It is just from the cases being sized down and a bullet being forced into it. If they will chamber you will be fine. As a matter of fact you are assured there will be no setback. If they look like this you are fine: Picture courtesy of http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=42&t=375928
  7. Do you own the land you are planning to bug out to? Are you already living on that land? Reason I ask is there are plenty of people who plan on bugging out and I wonder where. Most of them say they plan to head to the hills which is a huge problem because there are already people in those hills living there right now. And those people are going to defend their location or at least I know I will. And don't expect others to openly welcome a large group of people. I know I won't welcome anyone unless they bring a significant skill to the group and honestly I can't imagine what that skill might be that isn't already covered. There are less than 5 people that will be invited in and all others will be turned away with overwhelming amount of force. I will say this to all of those planning on bugging out to the hills. I will defend what is mine, including land, from any squatters or looters. After all if you show up and try to take what isn't yours you are a thief. That includes wild game, plants or anything on my property even if I do not need it or not using it that stuff is still mine. I may have more than I need to survive but I will not share any of it with complete strangers. I have made preparations to ensure my survivability and I would be a fool to give any of it up to complete strangers. It takes a lot of land to support a person year around. An acre or two isn't going to cut it. It will likely take 10's of acres per person. And what makes the average person think they are going to make it ouf of a population center before the other 50% of the other people leaving the cities clog the roadways? What is going to happen is the highways are going to clog like Rita/ Katrina leaving leaving them stranded and with the option of walking to the "hills" or walking back to the cities. And when you start walking you are going to be able to carry far less than what you left with or even left behind. Bugging in has some real advantages and if I lived in a city I would, without a doubt, stay put. First is you already have everything you are going to have without the need to transport it to a new location. You can call for help from those around you while in a remote location you cannot call for help. Another big advantage is you know the area. You also know who friend and who foe is or at least have a good idea. Travelling exposes you to more dangers. It is also easier to defend a building or high rise than a tent in the woods. Those buildings are going to protect you from the elements and be easier to keep warm in and survive in for the average person especially those used to living in the city. Food, at least initially, will be easier to come by in the cities as well as potable water. There are literally a few weeks worth of potable water in your water heater and toilet bowls and that is if you don't ration. With rain gutters, collecting water is much easier too. And as disgusting as it might sound cities have tons of rodents that can be harvested for food. If any type of relief or supplies is handed out it is going to be in the population centers first. The average person is going to have a far easier time surviving in the city than in the "hills". But if you must bug out and have any hope of bugging out you must be packed and ready to go in a moments notice. Vehicles have to ALWAYS have the gas needed to make it to that location. When the SHTF gas will be gone within minutes unless you are at the pumps pumping your gas as it takes place. You need to also realize that there are going to be a lot more people than just you heading to a bug out location. This is going to clog the roadways like we saw during Rita/Katrina. The only way you might get a head start is if you are in a position to get some notice, like LE, emergency services or the government would get to prepare. Otherwise it is going to be a race to get out and if you are not in the lead you will find yourself stuck in the rear. And once you are stuck you and your stuff become vulnerable to roaming bands of thugs set on taking your stuff for themselves. And honestly it would be easy pickings. As far as your bug out location you need to own the property you plan to go to. This can give you a little bit of a delay in the squatters that will show up. And once there, the squatters are not going to readily leave even if you tell them you own the property. If your bug out location is "public lands" you are not going to be the first there, it will be like winning the lottery if you are. You are going to find yourself surrounded by thousands of others who have the same plan. Most people don't realize that best case scenario crops will be edible in 4 months. If it happened today we are looking at 6-7 months before crops can begin to be harvested. So that means you are going to have to transport that much food because you are not going to be able to kill a years worth of food with everyone else trying to do the same thing. And as much as I hate to say it in order to survive people must loose their conscience. They must be willing to turn those less fortunate away unless they bring a substantial advantage to the group. People have this grand illusion that they are going to be able to find virgin land to live off of. Look around, how much public land do you see? And of that how much is going to be free for the taking, not much if any, by the time they make it? Dolomite

  11.   I beg to differ in a major way. They may not have the stopping power for up close engagements, unless there is a CNS hit, but at the same distance a person would use a scoped deer rifle a 22 is quite capable fo stopping a threat. A suppressed 22 engaging a threat at 200 yards is a very effective tool for protection. It would also very demoralizing to have no clue where to go to hide. Even without a suppressor a 22 can keep people at bay well beyond 200 yards. I can hit 1/2 sized steel targets at 200 yards 9 out of 10 times. That is a target that is 12" wide and 18" tall. A 22 is less intimidating to kids or women and provide a level of protection a pointy stick doesn't.   I can guarantee if I start engaging a threat at 100 yards with any of my 22's they will not be a threat for very long.   Here are several studies on the varsatility and lethality of the 22. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=22+lethality&oq=22+lethality&gs_l=youtube-reduced.3..0l2j0i5.103962607.103965059.0.103965396.12.12.0.0.0.0.147.894.9j2.11.0...0.0...1ac.1.iLAFFo7B72s   Dolomite

  13. I waved off Dicks a long time ago. When my wife was getting into skeet she wanted a nice O/U. Dick's had what we were looking for but when I asked to feel the trigger pull they refused. I asked the manager and he also refused. I asked if I could return the gun if the triggers were too heavy for our liking and they said no. That $5 trigger lock cost them over a thousand that day and probably 3x that since then.   Anyone who knows me knows I am pretty OCD about trigger pulls. I only own one gun that hasn't had the trigger worked on and that is something I purchased last week. It is coming, I just need to figure out how hard it is going to be.   Dolomite

  18. If it is a single message then the person requested it. I get requests from old friends regularly. They come one at a time and I have to click an icon at the top of the page to see them. If the request is in with a group then it is the "people you might know" recommendation. A good way to tell is if the request is on the home page and not in your incoming mail, then it was not sent by any particular person. They link groups of people together based on who you are currently linked with. They assume that if you are linked to two people and those two people have a link in common then you must also know the common link. It is a good site for networking and finding work. I know I have used it in the distant past to find out what was coming available. Dolomite
