  1. I can see them introducing a bill and it getting shot down. Then the back room deals begin and it will get attached to some other bill. And I suspect it will be one of those "you must pass it to see what is in it" deals like Pelosi said.   Or they will do a voice vote. We must always make sure it is a roll call or by name vote otherwise it could happen like the hughed amendment. In a voice vote the leader determines who won, the ayes or the nos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_vote   The Hughes amendment, that banned the sale of new machine guns to civillians, was passed in voice vote. And by all accounts it did not pass but Charlie Rangel called it as passed. This is the same Charlie Rangel who has been investigated for all kinds of ethics violations as well as illegal ativity.   The liberals have no problem breaking laws or rules to get what they want. This is why we have another 4 years.   Dolomite
  2. I would move the trigger forward, add a pistol grip and stock. The cutouts are already there and it literally takes an hour to do the conversion. Doing this conversion improves the trigger as well as removing several parts that might break eventually. Basically you grind or drill out a few rivets then assemble the gun like any other AK.   I would recommend the kits that Carolina Shooter Supply sells. You can buy everything needed for the conversion for $150.   If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have done several.   Dolomite
  3. As far as having the skills and mental fortitude to shoot a bad guy I will say this. I would be willing to make a wager that the majority of those who used a gun in self defense did not have military, LE or any dedicated training. The vast majority are going to be just like any one of us, a person who has done the minimum to pass their HCP. I suspect that in most cases where someone did use a friearm to defend themselves they did not have a HCP or needed to have one. I know we hear about a homeowners using firearms to do this and most of them do not have a HCP. It does not take a HCP or specialized training to use a firearm to stop a threat, people do it without either every day.   I would also say that a high speed, low drag super highly skilled and trained person winding up in a defensive situation is extremely rare, like lottery winning rare. Think about it. It is already and exremely rare occurance to be in situation in which you must defend your life with a firearm. Then take into acccount how rare a person that has a substantial abount of tactical training is. The stars must align perfectly for the two to meet.   We, as HCP holders, are a very small minority when it comes to those who have used a frearm to defend themselves.   Dolomite
  4.   What about those that have a HCP and have passed a background?    I would be more fearful of a random armed security guard that doesn't have a stake in the school (collecting a paycheck like someone said) vs an armed parent or grandparent. Not every parent or grandparent is a nut case just waiting for this chance. Adding police officers or security guards will cost a lot and who do you think will bear the brunt of that cost? The teachers or the students will because taxpayers will not agree to pay more taxes. Our teachers and students are already suffering from lack of budgets, they are the first to have their budgets cut and the last to see raises.   Or have teachers agree to carry and give them a 10% raise if they do. 10% of the teacher's already low salary is going to be a lot less than hiring dedicated officers or security guards.   The biggest problem, I fear, is getting liberal leaning teachers to agree to carry a firearm. And what happens when not a single teacher agrees to carry and the budget doesn't allow officers or guards? Look they other way, hope and pray it doesn't happen or use parents and grandparents that have passed a background. They are going to be just as qualified as an armed guard and cost a lot less, especially if they volunteer.   Dolomite
  5. Let volunteers do it. But they MUST have a child or grandchild in the school they volunteer at. And in return for volunteering deduct 1% from their property taxes for every day they volunteer. Or if they don't own property give them a single voucher for a tax free purchase of an item valued at up to $250 for every day they work. Dolomite
  6. The problem with slugs is they WILL exit the body of the bad guy. And it will continue on through walls or doors and injure innocents. Dolomite
  7. I would like to see thieves receive a far stiffer punishment. If you look at all violent criminals the majority start out as a petty thief. If the first time they got caught stealing they were tossed in jail for 3-5 years, no early release or good time, they would probably not do any crime again. As it stands a thief can be caught several times before getting the first day in jail. I say the first sentence should be the most stiff.   I know of a lady that stole $60K worth of gift cards. Her sentence was 3 years unsupervised probation. She has since started collecting disability because of the traima of being caught. And she is not going to pay restitution. I would have rather her spent the next decade in jail.   Dolomite
  8. I will say Bowman is an idiot. And what qualifications does he have, other than being a veteran, to comment on the abilities of others. He is borderline liberal spewing the same "Wild West Shootout" BS that you find in most liberal articles. This has proven to be false time and time again.   Mr Bowman, sell your guns to fund your move to one of the gun free cities, like Chicago or DC, where you will be safe.   Dolomite
  9. Problem with an adjustable stock is you have to use a pistol grip. And having a pistol grip on a Mossberg makes getting to the safety a pain in the butt. Having a standard stock makes it much easier. You could get a youth model stock then add a slip over recoil pad to add length back.   For the rounds to use I would go see how your gun patterns at the likely distance you are shooting. If the longest part of your house is 30 feet then setup a man sized target and make sure ALL pellets stay on target. 00 buck is fine but I also have #4 steel shot loaded into my gun. If you live in an apartment or have other houses in close proximity I would avoid slugs.   Here is a pretty good video showing penetration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZf_x8Esms&list=UU1UICFxcABkGg8Nj3X0dW8Q&index=10 Note that even #8 shot can be pretty devastating. The squares at the bottom are 1".   Dolomite
  10. You will be demonized by an attorney if you used a suppressor when shooting someone in self defense.   For the longest time I kept a set of noise enhancing hearing protection with my SD gun. They were stereo and enhanced sounds up to 85 dB. After that it muted. It was a PITA to put them on and turn them o0n in a hurry all while grabbing a gun. Since then I went from a 223 rifle to a 9mm rifle, 12 gauge and several pistols. I feel comfortable with all of them as a SD gun. The noise levels inside a house are going to be bad but no where near what a 223 indoors is going to be.   I have found that shooting rifle calibers indoors or in close proximity to flat surfaces disorients me. Even with hearing protection the blast forces me to close my eyes temporarily. And with muffs you still have a certain amount of temporary hearing lose when shooting around flat surfaces. The only cure is to use foam earplugs and who has time to do that when in a SD situation. That is why I went with stuff that will have less of a muzzle blast.   If I had to pick one gun to keep for SD it would be our 9mm carbine. It is quiet enough to not cause pain or even ringing that lasts more than a minute. With the longer barrel it tames the blast to nothing. And with the longer barrel the 9mm rounds have 357 magnum performance. And it is a blowback gun so it it the epitomy of reliable. I can shoot heavy slow bullets as well as super +P+ ammo equally well. And ANYONE, no matter how small, can handle the recoil of a 9mm in a rifle.   The less you have to do under stress the better.   Dolomite
  11.  Did you see a badge or creds? I can buy a ATF tshirt at Spencers.   It is not illegal to sell face to face to residents of our state. I suspect it was security telling you. Was it by chance the Expo Center in Knoxville. The security there was notorious for being over bearing jerks. They would threaten customers all the time as well as steal their property while pretending to be LE. Real LE has since taken over.   Dolomite
  12. Be careful. I hear they keep Black Panthers for pets. :)   Dolomite
  13. Those would definitely put a stop to things, especially those super aggressive elephants you might come across.   Never seen a 40mm hollow point although I have shot quite a few 40mm grenades.   Dolomite
  14. WOW, and his rifle barrels are probably the best in the business. His rifles are also considered some of the best.   Hope his family can pick up the pieces and continue what he started.   Dolomite
  15. And as I have said since day one. There is a 100% money back guarantee. No questions asked. I you ask for a refund you will get a refund. Dolomite
  16. I have never heard of one locking up like that. There are some brands that are not tapped all the way through, DPMS for one. Normally it is a hard stop, like he described, and then I walk them through the fix which is a $3 tap. Or if they don't want to do that I issue a refund. Either way the OP is getting a replacement, no questions asked. Dolomite
  17. And I am making it right even though it is not my fault or your fault really. You paid for a working kit so that is what you will have. Dolomite
  18. And Caracals are NICE! I seen the carbines a while back and they look great. Dolomite
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaYOGZBjZ9Q   Has to be the oldest I have seen.   Dolomite
  20. TMF had emailed me yesterday about it. I was waiting for the site to settle down before we addressed it.   Glad you found a workaround TMF.   Dolomite
  21. I am really glad I quit smoking now. Never knew I was smoking part of a beaver's butt.   Dolomite
  22. There are no friendlies, assume they all want to hurt you and take your stuff because they do. It is best to sneak, hide or move at night or you WILL become a victim. The highways are going to draw all the wolves because it will be easy pickings. Forget about a bug out by highway because it will be clogged within 30 minutes. And unless you are already completely packed and your BOV is full of gas you are not going to make it out.   The average person is not going to make it ouf of a population center before the other 50% of the other people leaving the cities clog the roadways. What is going to happen is the highways are going to clog like Rita/ Katrina leaving leaving them stranded and with the option of walking to the "hills" or walking back to the cities. And when you start walking you are going to be able to carry far less than what you left with or even left behind. Bugging in has some real advantages and if I lived in a city I would, without a doubt, stay put. First is you already have everything you are going to have without the need to transport it to a new location. You can call for help from those around you while in a remote location you cannot call for help. Another big advantage is you know the area. You also know who friend and who foe is or at least have a good idea. Travelling exposes you to more dangers. It is also easier to defend a building or high rise than a tent in the woods. Those buildings are going to protect you from the elements and be easier to keep warm in and survive in for the average person especially those used to living in the city. Food, at least initially, will be easier to come by in the cities as well as potable water. There are literally a few weeks worth of potable water in your water heater and toilet bowls and that is if you don't ration. With rain gutters, collecting water is much easier too. And as disgusting as it might sound cities have tons of rodents that can be harvested for food. If any type of relief or supplies is handed out it is going to be in the population centers first.   You need to also realize that there are going to be a lot more people than just you heading to a bug out location. This is going to clog the roadways like we saw during Rita/Katrina. The only way you might get a head start is if you are in a position to get some notice, like LE, emergency services or the government would get to prepare. Otherwise it is going to be a race to get out and if you are not in the lead you will find yourself stuck in the rear. And once you are stuck you and your stuff become vulnerable to roaming bands of thugs set on taking your stuff for themselves. And honestly it would be easy pickings.   Dolomite
  23. Thanks. I know this is in response to my questioning.   Dolomite
  24. Yes, it is hard to find anyone who can beat David's pricing. You you never find anyone who can be his honesty and his willingness to do what is right. He is a great guy, a veteran and above all a shooter that supports the shooting community. I have never heard of anyone who has complained about him, his prices or his products.   I have known David for about 5 years and since the first time I met him he has always taken care of his customers.   Dolomite
  25.   Enjoy your vacation. Take any more smart mouth pot shots at a moderator and it will be permanent.   Dolomite
