Talking about visits. There is a "guy" who has a table at the shows. He takes stripped lowers and makes complete rifles for resale. He has been doing it for the last 4-5 shows now. I am 99.9% positive he doesn't have a manufacturers license much less an FFL. Play stupid games and you win stupid prizes. There are a lot of people who sit in their house and build AR's for resale that don't know it is against the law to do that. I am sure the ATF is aware because those guys are buying dozens of stripped lowers a year. As far as the supply and demand thing it is true for AR's right now and I feel a little uneasy about it but not overly concerned with it. I view it like predatory lenders in that you need to be informed before making the leep. But on the same token there are people who are taking advantage of people who are not as familiar as they should be. And if anyone has a question about a gun they might be buying feel free to PM me. I won't comment on whether a price is fair but I will tell you if the gun is what they say it is. Now the ammo thing pisses me off and if I could do something I would. I have watched dealers buy all the ammo at Walmart. I asked the clerk, after the dealer cleared the shelves, how often it happens. And she said that every day they get ammo in between 8am and 10am and that everyday that same dealer is standing their waiting to buy it all. So rather than go through his supply chain to get what he needs he destroys my supply chain. The unscrupulous dealers are creating a false supply shortage by buying up everything then sitting on it. Not this shortage but a previous shortage I was at another big box store and a dealer had a cart full of all the 22 ammo. I asked if I could get a box and he said give him $20. This was before he had paid for it so I would have had to hand him a $20 bill then pay $15 for the box. I chuckled and he said fine I sell it for $37 a brick in my store. I asked what store it was and he told me. I then blasted what he did all over the web. Within a year he had to close his doors and this was during a boom time. We all forget those who do this but I don't. My supply chain gets smaller every time something like this happens. I have a store that I frequent. He has not raised prices on ANYTHING. He still has plenty of ammo and plenty of guns. Just a few weeks ago he was selling AK's for ~600 and AR's for ~$800. He will get every red cent I can spend now to ensure he stays open. And he said he would be selling everything for the same prices as before this craziness hit. Dolomite

I bought a 22A and sold it as a project after it would not make it through a single magazine. I called S&W to send it in for repair and they had me do a bunch of stuff to it. And none of their recommendations helped at all. I struggled through 500 rounds for the break in but it only got worse as time went on. Mine may have been a fluke because I have friends who really like theirs. But for the money a user Ruger is hard to beat. For not a lot more you can find a used Ruger MKII. The Rugers are 100% steel and will out last you. There are plenty of aftermarket support as well as Ruger's warranty service. I had one that had over 100,000 rounds through it and other than the occassional cleaning it needed nothing. You can find a new Ruger 22/45 for ~$300 as well. I have two of those and they are great. You can even find them threaded from the factory in case you ever get a suppressor. I recently bought a gently used SR22 for $250. The seller said he shot 40 rounds through it and put it away. It is one of the most reliable guns I have shot. It runs supersonics and subsonics equally well. It is also very, very accurate for such a small pistol. The only drawback for me is the safety is backwards. You have to push it up to disengage it. You can find used ones regularly for $300. Brads to avoid if you shoot a lot would be the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito. I have shot the P22 and had the sights fly off. The Sig has a 10K-15K round lifespan and that is coming from Sig engineers. That is about a 6 month lifespan for me. I am also cautious with S&W because their engineers told me that they will last forever. I know that is not the case and would have appreciated and honest answer. If I had to pick a single 22 pistol it would be a all steel Ruger MKII. Well that or my suppressed Cricket. Dolomite

Get a bore snake for the caliber you need. Nothing easier. Pull it through each hole in the cylinder and through the bore. Then take a rag and wipe down the outside with a little bit of oil. Dolomite -
There was an officer that was killed on his way home while in his patrol car. WC refused to pay saying he was not actively working. I have known a lot of people over the years injured in car accidents on the way to work and all of them did not collect a single dime of WC. I have a close friend who was working a side job and tried to effect and arrest on someone with felony warrants. The bad guy ran my friend over with a car causing a lot of injuries. WC refused to pay saying he was not working his "regular" job. He fought it for years with attorneys and he has yet to see a single dime for compensation. Heck he even had to cover his medical bills when the jurisdiction he worked for refused to cover his injuries even though he was attempting to make an arrest. The jurisdiction said he wasn't "on the clock" for them even though they are salaried. I do know of at least one that did receive some money but it was the employer who did it and not WC. And a few had employers who laid them off so they could collect unemployment. But none collected WC as a result of being injured on the way to or from work. Dolomite

This is lunacy. I cannot fathom them thinking that something like this is going to be fine. What is going to happen if they actually try to pull this off is this. Those we owe money to are going to say it is fine but then they will say that the plastic bowl that once cost $1 now costs $500. Or they will refuse to sell us anything on credit anymore. In either scenario the collapse of the dollar's value will result in us becoming a 3rd world country over night. But there is something good to say about it. Those who owe money will be able to pay them off easier while those with stockpiles of money will see those stockpiles become worthless overnight. The ones who will loose the most will be the uber rich, not those who owe the most. Those with billions of dollars will realize that they can no longer live like they did before because those billions they have saved are worth a lot less. But for those of us on the bottom who owe it would make paying off our debts that much easier. Releasing trillions of dollars will devalue the dollar so much that we will have to use backpacks to carry our money to buy bread. The federal reserve will have to print $10,000 notes so we won't have to carry as much. It will be much like Zimbabwe. There a 500 million dollar note costs about $10. Dolomite

I am glad I walked away from BoA last year. They, as well as their employees, pissed me off on several occassions. We were wanting to refinance our house with them and when it took them over a week to call back we had found a CU to refinance for less. The loan person from BoA got upset that I didn't want to wait. Evidentally there are some groups who have started an anti NRA campaigns http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/dec/20/anti-nra-hotel-chains-discounts What we, as gun owners, need to do is take a play from their playbook. How about as Anti Brady campaign among gun owners? It was their push for policy changes that lead to all the gun free zones. And those gun free zones are resulting in people being left defenseless and getting killed. I know from now on I am going to openly blame the Brady Campaign for the recent mass killings. Fair is fair. Dolomite

Move to arm teachers picks up steam in TN

The reason why they are now is the US has changed fundementally. When we, as in you and I, were kids and messed up we were punished. It didn't even have to be our parents either. I had neighbors that would spank me if I messed up in front of them. Then when I got home my parents would punish me for making the neighbor punish me. And that instilled a lot of responsibility in a young child. We learned very quickly the difference between right and wrong. And back then all the neighbors knew each other well enough that if one neighbor spanked the other neighor's kid it was because the kid deserved it. It was the neigbors way of protecting us kids. But that has changed because parents do not punish and God forbid a neighbor yells at a kid for doing something wrong, the parents would go crazy these days without so much as a "thank you" for keeping their kid out of trouble. Another big problem is our "everybody is a winner" society in which kids are not allowed to fail. Parents want to be their kid's friend rather than be a parent. And when their kid fails or screws up the parents go on the offensive and take up for their child even if the child is 100% in the wrong. This empowers the kids into thinking someone will always be there to get them out of trouble if they do bad things. Parents do not want their kids to fail or be disappointed, which I understand, but it is necessary to learn to cope with failure at an early age. This desensitizes the kids to failure so when they have failures later on in life it isn't as big of a deal and hopefully motivates them to try better. There are winners and their are losers in life, that is a fact. So parents should prepare their kids for that fact but that is just not the case anymore. A parents job is to prepare their child for life and failure is part of life. Society has accepted the fact that if a kid doesn't fit in the "normal" box then there must be something wrong with them. Some kids are smarter than others and some kids are more active than others. But today if you have a kid that is more active than the rest then he must have some sort of ADD disorder and needs to be medicated. And for the kid that isn't as smart as the rest the standards are lowered for everybody else so the not so smart one doesn't fail. Every child is different and trying to fit every child into the same box is impossible but society wants to use medications to make that child fit in that box. Now some kids and adults need medications but I believe meds are used for convenience rather than out of necessity more often than 20-30 years ago. And what do you think happens when the adult that has been medicated since childhood comes off his meds? And finally a lot of parents have disengaged themselves from their children. They view school as a baby sitting service and do not want to get involved in their child's life, that is unless it benefits the parents. They sit their kids down in front of the television, to watch television or play video games, rather than engage their child and teach them right or wrong. And because of this I believe a lot of kids are getting their moral compass from what they watch or play. Not saying all kids but some. And this is why I think we are in a different world than 20 or 30 years ago. Dolomite -

I agree anyone should be allowed to carry their firearm anywhere on public property, like schools. But we also need to ensure we have someone on site at all times to stop the bad guys. Most of these chickenshits would kill themselves alone in their bedroom if they knew they wouldn't succeed. Something needs to be done to protect our kids. We have more security guarding inanimate objects. Heck, the receipt checker at Sam's is more of a detergent than what some schools have right now. Dolomite -
